We've been to Angry Chickz more than a dozen times, so this isn't a one-off. The service has been a recurring issue. It often feels inattentive and rushed, and the staff don't seem well trained or supervised. What stands out most is how inconsistent the treatment is. When my girlfriend and I come in together, she tends to get friendly, attentive service while I'm often ignored or rushed. I don't know the reason, but it's consistent enough that I notice it every visit. After living in this area for decades, that kind of thing is hard to miss. The atmosphere doesn't help either. The music from the kitchen is frequently louder than the front, and the whole operation thong feels like its run by highschool kids with no respect. We gave it plenty of chances, but we won't be back. I'd encourage management to take a serious look at training and consistency, because the experience hasn't matched the food. read more

Located in Aliso near the movie theater and Barnes and Noble.. lots of choices to eat here. Lots of parking since it's a big center. Clean inside with plenty of seating for 2 or 4. Service is good at least it was for us.. maybe they read the others reviews where other yelpers had poor customer service? Dunno.. for us it was all good. Is it like Dave's? Yes.. but different. Medium spice level is hot for me.. the honey and sauce helped cool it down.. you can get mild, no heat all the way up to OMG it hurts.. your call. I got the two strip plate which comes on a bed of rice that doesn't get enough credit.. that rice is great! Super disappointed in the service our Dasher received picking up our order tonight. Apparently Raymond the manager smelled of alcohol and laughed at our dasher when he asked where our order was. Was walking by this place and, despite my better judgement, was tempted to try the Angry-level chicken. The interior of the restaurant was super cool and the music was hip and trendy. Worker Cody had me sign a waiver online before putting in my order: An Angry chicken tender with Mac and Cheese. I got water to prepare for the challenge and waited for my food, which came out quickly. ...Guys, Capsaicin pepper is no joke. One bite and I was DYING. The spice immediately numbed my tongue and made it impossible to speak. Cody saw me struggling and came to the rescue with a cup of milk and some kind words of encouragement. I ordered a regular chicken tender with sauce right after that, which was a pleasantly delicious and refreshing after my near-death experience with the spicy monstrosity they called Angry chicken. Not much spice when we ordered hot - and there were maybe 5 little chicken chunks on our dish. We did a pickup order pretty late, around 830pm but this still shouldn't be an excuse as to why the food wasn't good. My husband ordered two chicken sandwiches, which he said were good flavor wise but could have been hotter temp wise. This play would be way more popular and get 5 stars out of me if everything on the menu was $1-$2 cheaper. Some of the best tasting fried chicken around and the angry mac is perfect. The regular staff that are there most hours nail it every time, the newer staff tends to be a little hit or miss like chicken that's a little chewy or not enough seasoning or too much/too little cheese. Not a ton of foot traffic, there's always seating and it's generally very clean. Hot chicken places have been opening all over Orange County in the past couple of years, and Angry Chickz is a new contender to the market with its first OC location. The menu tends to be fairly consistent at these places, all variations of chicken on or not on bread, but Angry Chickz changes it up with their various bowls, which add a bit of variety. Had the chance to try their Hangry Fix, which is really just a great combination of all their sides in a bowl, and I'd have to say taste wise it's delicious and heat wise it's no slouch. I really appreciate all the different options on the menu, as it does give some great options to balance the heat. We tried sliders, and two bowls with chopped chicken and mac and cheese, one with rice/coleslaw and the other with fries. Rice and Mac were glutinous and under seasoned, but with enough 'secret' sauce and ketchup, bowls were pretty tasty. Sandwich good but poor structural integrity--practically explodes when you try to take a bite. Guy behind the counter was helpful if not chatty, but the food took an inexplicably long time to come out. Like 15 minutes even though there were few other patrons. A few pet peeves: Similarly, given how messy food is, they were a bit stingy with their napkins. Then you go into the bathroom to wash your hands and find no paper towels, only hand driers, and an unavoidable door handle to deal with on the way out. Ugh. Floors also felt a bit greasy underfoot. My husband loves how truly spicy the chicken is a Angry Chicks. I can't pin point exactly why I don't love their chicken but I haven't been satisfied even after trying it a second time. spicy fried chicken sandwiches (gotta have slaw!) are one of my absolute favorite meals so i was filled with anticipation & excitement to try this place, which i had previously seen ads for in LA. so far i've tried the medium & hot & both were amazing! i usually get the sliders. the spice rub is slap-full of flavor. i would describe it as smokey with a touch of sweetness & tang. it's a dry rub & evenly coated for all my visits. i definitely appreciated that the slaw was a valid component of the slider, not sad & forgotten & there was a decent amount. these lil lumps of joy are all about balance. the pickles are 4/5, way better than your average but my personal favorite pickles are bread & butter those but seems more of a niche option. the sauce is pretty standard, creamy with some spices but nothing crazy. i do like it's addition to the slider & it's added in the perfect amount; doesn't make it soggy, complements the chicken, spice & backs up the cooling crunch of the slaw. the bread is soft & the overall size is reasonably bigger than an average slider. i eventually tried the mac & fries.. fries are good, def on the salty side but the mac did not disappoint!! i'm not really biggest fan of mac & cheese but i really like theirs. it's so creamy & has right consistency. my only complaint is that most of the times i've gotten a side it's not servers hot. both times i shared fries w a friend they were room temperature, second time borderline cold. the main attraction (chicken) was served piping hot & fresh & the fries were probably waiting on the chicken so it's forgivable. im not coming for the sides, i'm here for the chicken!! mac is bomb though, i care less about the temperature of that & more about the taste & texture which are on point. the staff was very warm, accommodating & friendly every time i've come. & i love how clean & tidy the place is kept. also the bathrooms are very nice! classy even.. though i did hear some patrons bit off more than they could chew with their spice level & i guess wrecked the men's restroom with spicy poop. poor fellas. i do wish they had a level between medium & spicy because i can easily eat spicy+ at Dave's but i had to take breaks while trying to enjoy their spicy level & i have spoken to other guests who agree. special shout-out to Carla, Brendan & Matt!! now that i've discovered Angry Chickz i must admit i have a problem & i love it. i also appreciate the accessible hours since i have a young child & i have enough time to come get my fix after i put her to bed. nothin but love to this place!! you've got a fan for life! read more

I love Nashville hot chicken and my favorite spot is Howlin' Rays in LA. I was really excited to try Angry Chickz since it opened in my neighborhood last week. So I dragged my husband down the hill to try it for dinner on Friday night. Our cashier looked like he'd rather be doing something other than working there. We checked out the menu and the combos weren't interesting to us. We ordered 2 tenders and mac & cheese each. He went with mild and I went with hot. I ordered to eat at the restaurant but when they called my name, my orders were boxed and bagged. The cashier did warn me that the hot was made with ghost pepper. I said it was fine. I wasn't going to sweat a little ghost pepper. I mean I've had Carolina Reaper. So there's that. We still ate at a table with our packed up food. The tenders we ordered were placed in the same box. Now I'm all for saving containers and lowering costs BUT the spice levels were not labeled and both sets of tenders looked identical. We had to ask someone at the counter which was which because there is a huge difference between mild and hot levels of spice. We were told the mild should be on the right. Honestly, it would have been helpful had the kitchen bothered to label the paper the order was sitting on with mild on one side and hot on the other. Both sets of tenders were served on toast with pickles. We checked the spice levels by taking a small bite of each. The mild was indeed on the right. The chicken was not crispy and it was starting to get soggy. Maybe if the chicken were served on plates or paper bowls instead of packed in a takeaway container, we could have had crispy chicken. Or maybe poke a hole in the lid of the box for steam to escape. I don't know. Just don't serve people boxed food when they ask to dine in. The macaroni and cheese was a watery mess. I expect mac & cheese to have a bit of a cheese pull and the stuff we were served was in a watery cheese soup. It was not good. It was bland. My husband said that Stouffers would have been better. The only saving grace was dipping my chicken tender bits into the mac and cheese to make it palatable. I get that Nashville hot chicken is having its moment with a new spot opening in every corner nowadays, but unless it's actually good with good service, I doubt that this location of Angry Chickz will make it past the first two years in Aliso Viejo. The fry needed to be hard to add texture to the soft sandwich. The chicken was juicy and seasoning was mild. The sauce was runny and could've been thicker. The fries were my favorite. Make sure to get the thousand island sauce. Mac and cheese was ok, not great. Mixed bag here, I'd say their overall yelp rating is pretty fair. Pros Seasoning is great - typically have a good tolerance but even the hot was a challenge for me. Finished my 3 tenders but definitely felt the burn. Can't imagine how the x-hot or angry is!! Fries/Mac - really good Rice - so so, didn't taste bad but $4 is steep for a small portion of rice. Sauce - really good Cons Tenders were not crunchy/crispy at all - not sure if an isolated issue or not, but this really hurts their overall score. The combos do not come with any sauce - each 2oz portion is $.35. I get you need to cut costs down and not be wasteful, but not sure why they don't even provide 1 sauce with each combo?
