I love this place. It is so much of a better option for breakfast then a greasy spoon. The syrup is real, the fruit is fresh, portions are filling, food arrives quickly and the place is clean. They also serve breakfast all day. The service is always good too. They move fast and it can seem hectic at times but they are always available and friendly despite the speed at which things are moving. I went there for dinner tonight and again had a great meal. The salad was excellent and dressing homemade, the gazpacho was fresh and flavorful. My family also enjoyed their meals. My only complaint about the place is that they seem to have a disproportionate amount of peculiar customers dinning there and the tables are close together. read more

Terrible service. Absolutely garbage. She messed up my order and got pissed off at me for saying it was wrong. She slammed down the two dishes she was holding and checked her notepad to see if I was correct. Turns out that she wrote down the wrong thing and left taking the dish back. Seems like she really hated her job and should just quit. She had a nasty attitude and never apologized. The food was decent except it was always a struggle to get the food because they would always take the food to the WRONG TABLE. They really need a lot more training in customer service because they were so rude. If you're in such a terrible mood just don't GO to work or at least TRY to have a happy mood. The only time she actually smiled was when we left. I guess we pissed her off when she messed up OUR order. This is just a fantastic restaurant on so many levels. We had been to the Brookline location for years while we were living there and had high hopes for the Natick location, even though we didn't think it could possibly be as good. I can reassure you this location is just as good as the original! The food is always great no matter what you order and I rarely have to ask for another drink or look for the waitstaff. They're very attentive, but not in that annoying way. This is a Kosher-style deli, but it's so much more than that. They have not only great Jewish style foods, but amazing breakfasts served all day. This is NOT a Kosher place for anyone who keeps Kosher, but those who don't, zomgyum! We come here often and I get something different every time, something I don't do at other restaurants, but everything here is truly great! I'm sorry but Zaftig's Framingham is NOT anything like a good NYC deli. After months of anxious anticipation, we went to Zaftig's for breakfast. The eggs were overdone and the price was fairly expensive. But, we gave them the benefit of the doubt and ventured back for dinner. The pastrami and corned beef were mediocre at best- no comparison to NY delis like 2nd Avenue or Katz's. We did like the Black and White cookies, though. read more

Food was fabulous with generous portions. The server was super nice and very accommodating. This place is a hidden gem, tucked in the Christmas Tree Shoppe's shopping center. I love Jewish deli food, and I keep trying to like Zaftigs, but it's just such bad food. We've tried dozens of different items during the handful of times we've come over the years, and found the food ranges from really bad to just okay. Have just gone to the Zaftig's in Natick for the second time today at approximately 1:00 p.m., the first was the first Saturday they were opened. THIS IS NOT NYC AND THE CARNEGIE OR THE STAGE, so stop comparing and having lived in t his area for more than 45 years our one experience at Joan and Ed's we thought it was "drek" a poor imitation of a deli and never went back. During our first visit on the opening Saturday we did have a 20-30 minute wait with a long line. Considering it being the opening week we found the staff to be extremely well trained and food was served promptly.. We were seated behind a coffee counter, no problem.. Tables close to each other, hey, good to talk to your neighbors..The only problem that day was that the bathroom was out of order and a plumber was on his way. Everybody from the owner to the manager were cleaning tables, serving, and bringing guests to a table//booth Today at 1:00 p.m., a Friday, again there was a 20 minute wait (although an hour later I noticed no lines) for a table for three. Again, the owner and the manager were seen helping out as above. . My friend had a smoked turkey sandwich, I had a beef tongue sandwich and my husband had a corned beef and pastrami,, two of us had creme tonic and I had an extra serving of potato salad.. Our waitress came over to us promptly, very friendly and helpful... service was prompt and food hot as requested. Yes, the place is very noisy and tables crowded.. We had the misfortune of having a screaming child behind us.. My husband turned around and shocked the mother by telling the little boy that "crying isn't allowed" He stopped.lol We didn't go there for a romantic lunch. As for the food... the sandwiches were chock full of meat...so much so that the three of us brought half our sandwiches home..Being homemaker for more than 50 years I can't say enough for the potato salad at Zaftigs, so much so that I order a second dish and two pounds to take home.. It is the best potato salad EVER....As good or almost as good as the potato salad I make...tangy, fresh and just the way potato salad should be not the excuse other restaurants serve. It is homemade and tastes it.. I must try their coleslaw...next time I keep saying. As for cost., I think we paid less than $84.00 for the three of us which included a Zaftig's t-shirt, a dozen bagels and two pounds of potato salad and we had no complaints for the quality and service. Both times as we have left I've bought two pounds of the potato salad and bagels.. By coincidence Tuesday we will have lunch at Zaftig's in Brookline and next Saturday friends who have never been are all excited about going to Zaftig's here in the Metro-West area. BTW hear Joan and Ed eat there often, guess they know a good thing. I had a craving for french toast, and so we went to Zaftigs. The french toast was really good. We're both vegetarians, and so we were surprised to see a veggie burger on the menu. They said it was house-made and a new, popular addition. Sadly, it was the worst thing my husband and I have ever tasted. We thought about sending it back, but we decided not to. In hindsight, we should have.. The ingredients for their veggie burger sound delicious, but the actual burger was a mess. It was VERY mushy and not cooked well at all. And it had a terrible, sour taste. We also ordered knishes. They were under seasoned mashed potatoes in a soggy shell. I've given up on Zaftig's. When they first came to Natick, we ordered out or ate in several times a week. As time passed, we noticed flavors changed and most importantly, the take-away food we ordered was never delivered as ordered. We wrote to the store. More than once. We always received an apology and a refund for the food we were unable to eat. That's nice, but doesn't change the fact that 3 or 4 times we had to make alternative dinner plans because what we brought home wasn't what we ordered. Our family took a break from eating there for about 6 months. We decided to go back and give it another try. Things have gone from bad to worse. Not only is the take-away usually not as ordered but today, while ordering take out WHILE WE WERE EATING THERE, it was delivered incorrectly. Ordered: A hamburger, well-done with mayo and lettuce. No sides. No pickles. We received a hamburger with lettuce, tomato and mayo and pickle. And we were charged the same price as a hamburger with side. It may not seem like much of a difference to you, but I'm sensitive to tomatoes and the smell of the pickle makes me queasy. I didn't bother calling this time. Our family won't be back to Zaftig's. It's too much of a crap shoot and the odds, as always, are in favor of the house. read more

I need to first explain that I used to work in my family's delicatessen in Newton that we sold about 15 years ago. We went in with a group of 6 of us for dinner and most of us ordered corned beef, pastrami or Reuben Sandwiches. All of our sandwiches were just ok. Zaftig's makes them properly but the meat doesn't have enough flavor to it. I think I saw on the way out, that the Corned Beef in the case was Boston Brisket Company. I don't know if the pastrami comes from there too. The corned beef was precooked and in cryovac. I know we got our corned beef from the now defunct American Kosher which we got uncooked in big barrels and cooked ourselves. We used the Pearl Provisions black pastrami and had a trick of adding sugar when we heated it. I am guessing there is not much choice in the Boston area anymore as kosher meat companies and delis have really struggled over the last 20 years. I know that in Albany, NY, Old World Provisions makes very good tasting corned beef. I asked for the hot fatty corned beef and it was very tough and chewy. Fatty usually melts in your mouth. My daughter got the Nova plate and they were very generous with the Nova and I tasted a small piece and it was delicious. We got an order of the meat knishes and the an order of the potato and they were pretty good. The meat knish was very different from other meat knishes we have had. Instead of the usual onion and ground meat it was filled with small flakes of barbecue sauced brisket. It was surprising but everyone liked it. The potato were good. I also noticed that a lot of people were either eating smoked salmon plates or breakfast plates at dinner. If I were to go back, I would probably order one of those. read more

The best part of starting your experience at Zaftig's are the bagel chips that arrive at your table when you are seated! I split a pastrami potato pancake sandwich with a girlfriend of mine that they kindly plated on two separate dishes. I've eaten breakfast here twice, and both times felt the quality of the food doesn't warrant a $40 basic breakfast for two. What's more, they will not modify anything on the menu on weekends. So, I couldn't order the breakfast burrito because they wouldn't take out the bacon...not that I even asked for a substitution. So this further narrowed my options down to just three things. Omelette, omelette or another omelette. The reason being that "the cooks may get it wrong if you ask for changes, so we just won't do them." As a diner, doesn't install a lot of trust in who's cooking your food. How do they handle people with allergies, I wonder? read more

I love breakfast for dinner. At Zaftig's you can order anything off the menu. For breakfast they have everything from french toast to make your own omelet. There is homemade chicken soup, great salads, chicken dinners. This is "feel good" food. Generally, I have had excellent service with super friendly waiters. Saturday and Sunday mornings it is crazy busy so be prepared to wait. Plenty of parking, really funny tshirts and great desserts round out the experience. read more

My wife and I went for a Sunday lunch, and it was good enough (and close enough) to deserve a second visit for breakfast. We each started out with a tasty Bloody Mary to wash down our bagel chips, nicely complemented with an herb cheese spread. My wife ordered the "Essex", while I ordered the Reuben. Both sandwiches featured plenty of deli meat, although I was a little disappointed that there was very little sauerkraut, swiss cheese or Russian dressing for flavor. In retrospect, the sandwich was probably healthier (and certainly neater) than other Reubens I've had in the past, but it means that I'm still in search of The Holy Grail. read more
