Overall, Zaika was an interesting dinner, and I would give them a 3.5 star rating for my first visit. They took over the old Tango restaurant near Capitol Hill (somewhat close to the Starbucks Roastery on the corner of Boren Street and Pike). The only parking available is really street parking so my suggestion is arrive a little early to scout out the area. The staff were really friendly but since they recently opened, they were especially attentive (always asking if everything is okay). For some, it might be a lot of attention but I appreciated their dedication to customer service. It's better than being ignored but there was a moment or two where more than one person asked how everything was in a span of 5-10 mins. The initial draw for me to go to Zaika was my interest in trying out one of their Thali offerings. However, they only serve those for lunch, which was a disappointment. The main dinner menu was okay but if you're looking for anything traditional, don't expect it at Zaika because the food is more of a modern-fusion take. I ordered the Classic Butter Chicken and tried some other things on my friends' plate, such as the rosemary naan and a kabob dish. Overall, the food was generally ok (seasoned well), but it was missing the flavor profile that I love about Indian food, such as the spices and heat. Cost-wise, main dishes ranged around $20-$30, which is actually on the pricier side in my opinion. I'm not sure if I would come back for dinnerr anytime soon but I would come back to try out one of their Thali dishes for lunch to cross that off my "to try" list. read more

**vegetarian review** I ordered from this place as takeout/doordash. The order was delivered fairly quickly which I definitely appreciated. I ordered the kashmiri kofta, kadhai paneer, garlic naan and paneer naan. Both the entrée come with plain rice. On the whole I was happy with the quantity and the flavour. The kadhai paneer had a really good quantity of paneer which was great. Personally they can add more bell peppers which I'll add when I reheat my leftovers. The flavour was very different from my other entrée which I appreciated. It wasn't the same gravy in different forms. The kofta was well done too. It's generally my go to dish. I got spicy level as hot but you can easy go for extra hot as it's not too high on heat. Both the naans were super soft and smaller compared to other restaurants. Located on the corner of Boren and E Pike at the bottom of Pill Hill, you will find this Indian Fusion style restaurant. First and foremost and I must warn you, that parking is HORRIFIC here. Obviously on Boren there is no parking to be had, so just realize that you will have to find parking at a minimum of a block away. When we went, which was actually on a late Sunday afternoon, was almost three blocks away (lots of high density residential area). Tried the cottage on the pond with an old fashioned to start off with. Then had the Mumbai Mule with the Chutney Sampler. Had the sea bass and the butter chicken with garlic naan. The food itself was quite delicious. However that being said, the portions in my opinion with the price that accompanied that portion were very small and very expensive. We are not taking the most extravagant proteins known to man, it's Sea Bass and Chicken for gosh sakes. That naan (flat bread) is fantastic, and if you can get them to give you some curry to go with that, you may just have a meal right there. We ordered family style as we had seven people is our group, five adults and two toddlers. The drinks and drink menu is both quite delicious and also local. Meaning that most of all of the spirits, beers etc were local area options here in Seattle. These were all done with a twist as they obviously would also incorporate "Indian" style flavors into their drinks. When you walk into the restaurant, there is a fairly large bar seating area, and then off bar, and then to your right you have a sizable main seating area, which also has outdoor sidewalk seating. On this day it had just snowed the night before, so no, no outdoor seating for this guy. We walked by this place a couple times and kept smelling something delicious so we decided to come here for dinner. We got the Chilli panner to start which was full of flavor and just the right level of spicy that the spice didn't get in the way of the flavor. Even my friend that can't take too much spice found it worth it. We had gotten Mango Lassi to drink which was delicious and was made even better against the spiciness of the Chilli Paneer. We also ordered the Pav Bhaji, Paneer Tikka Masala, and the Garlic Naan. I'm always excited to see Pav Bhaji on the menu since it's not something that's typically on the menu. I was a little disappointed with it though as it seemed to use a different bread instead of the typical pav bread that I think took away from the taste. There was also a lot of bhaji for the amount of pav that was given with it. The Paneer Tikka Masala and garlic naan was delicious and I would definitely get that again. I'm in Seattle for work and happened to walk by this place. I missed lunch so decided to eat dinner early. I was able to order the Chili Chicken and a Chai Old Fashion at happy hour prices. Both exceeded my expectations. The chicken was SPICY but that is what I was looking for. It appeared to be all white meat with no fat, skin, or gristle like you get some some Asian places. They were so accommodating and so kind. Our server was really sweet. I think we asked her too many detail questions that she couldn't answer which is okay. Seasoned perfectly and also served with a side of Chimichurri sauce. The other dishes we ordered was the Paneer Pinwheel and Tadkewala Daal. I recently visited Zaika on a saturday night. We had done the reservations a couple of days online through their website and were promptly seated at the restraunt. It got very busy during the time we were at the restraunt. The staff was very polite and provided great service. I would give them 5 stars. The food was good but very spicy. We tried the kale Chaat, Prawn Ghee roast and love both of them. For the main course we tried Kheema Pav, Mutton Rogan Josh, Naan n Raita. They do not serve curries with Rice like most restarunts do in US. Kheema Paav was supremely hot n spicy. Though it tasted really good but had to ask for more raita. The portions sizes are decent. We had ordered 2 cocktails total, Mango Mule & saphire Shikjanji. They were beautiful looking and tastewise delectable. For the desserts we ordered Gulab Jamun, Chikoo Kulfi, Jackfruit Kulfi. they add 18% gratutity in the bill regardless of party size, we were a party of 3. We paid slightly over $200 for this which is not at all cheap. I would not visit this place for regular weekend dinner due to the prices but might consider for celebratory or special dinner. read more

It was in my list to go and try since 2020 and finally I went today and it's was delicious . We tried almost everything from the menu and all were tasty with great presentation of food. We tried the appetizers 1. : kale chat ( crispy kale ) with curd and green chutney over it , it was delicious with all flavors balanced. 2 . Pistachio jackfruit kulfi defiantly recommend to try 3.Chikoo kulfi is a must try with actual Chikoo in kulfi While we were having food owner of restaurant came and introduced himself , a nice guys and he said that their menu keep on changing every 5-6 months so worth checking their FB page for any updates. I've walked by multiple times and finally had a chance to try with a group of friends who came to visit. We ordered a few rounds of drinks and there are a range of options that include non-alcoholic beverages (like Mumbai Mocktail Mule and the Caught in the Rain Lassi - both so yummy). For entrees we tried the Rosemary Lamb Chops, Chicken Dum Biryani, and Salmon Moilee. I am not exaggerating when we found everything absolutely delicious. For desi food it is more on the pricey side but the portion sizes are fair and it is a really nice sit-down place and worth the experience. The staff was also very kind and patient in answering our questions and accommodating any requests we had. I'm so glad we stopped in for a late dinner last night! We are in from Ohio and we're walking from capital hill to pikes place market. This place has a ton of customers so we decided to try it out. There was not outside seating left so we sat in the bar area. Service was great. We split the chicken biryani, garlic naan and dips. I really wanted to like this place. I had a fun dinner with friends here long ago and couldn't remember how the food was. I Was excited reading all the reviews especially given the number of Indian folks with positive reviews. Sadly, it was not to be. I ordered the classic order of butter chicken and garlic naan and added a paneer appetizer to it. The place is damn expansive, or maybe it's Seattle pricing now. The three things added up to $52. All would have been fine had the food tasted good. It was mostly palatable but the butter chicken tasted overly sweet and of raw spices or heavy on a certain spice. I can make better butter chicken at home. To their credit, the chicken was really well cooked and soft! The naan was dry-ish. It lacked flavor. The paneer appetizer was okay. I went to Zaika last week and ordered a chicken dish. I asked the waiter if I could get a small side of masala sauce. He kindly said, "Let me check with the chef." A few minutes later, he came back smiling and said, "The chef said of course!" I appreciated the hospitality and thought it was a generous gesture. However, when the bill arrived, I was shocked. They charged me $12 for that small side of sauce--something that wasn't mentioned or priced when I asked. It felt misleading and excessive for what was essentially a spoonful of sauce. To make matters worse, I noticed a 10% service charge added to the bill. When I asked if that was the tip, the waitress told me it wasn't--it was a "kitchen service charge" or "restaurant fee," and that she wouldn't see any of it. So I ended up tipping again on top of that. In the end, with no drinks and just one chicken dish, my total came out to $52. I left feeling like I'd been taken advantage of, not just because of the price, but because of the lack of transparency throughout the experience. I didn't say anything at the time, but I won't be returning. Charging $12 for a small amount of sauce without warning, and layering in ambiguous service charges, feels dishonest. What I gotta say is that they are the only restaurant I've ordered from so far on uber eats / Postmates that honored my request for low sodium. I think that restaurants use way too much salt in their food. I don't blame them. It makes the food taste better. But it's unhealthy. This is the only place in Seattle where I found authentic chicken tikka. This also is the only place in Seattle with an assorted tandoori snack platter which was fresh and warm with no complaints (for takeout). Their thalis are above average too. We read good reviews about their biryani and have been wanting to try it for a while. We live on the east side and with small kids coming here for dinner is hard. We heard they started brunch and decided to try today. They had a different menu for brunch which did not have biryani but everything we ordered today tasted amazing. We ordered aaloo tikki burger, chilli chicken, fish coconut curry, and falooda. Everything had a nice twist over the regular way of making these dishes. Falooda was the best of all. I asked the waiter what fish do they use for the coconut curry and what flavoring they do for the biryani rice and he did not seem to know. Thought the waiter could use some education on the dishes. Also thought they could do some work on improving the ambience. Chairs seems chipped on the edges and were not looking pretty. Food) The Kale Chaat was a cool take on a classic dish, but fell short of the flavor I'd expect of chaat. The kale chips were fantastic, but there wasn't enough yogurt to really hit the spot. The mocktail "Caught in the Rain" Mango Lassi was incredible - I just wish there was more. This is just a straight upgrade of the mango lassi. The Kashmiri Kofta was also fantastic. This dish is heavier than most kofta like dishes I've had in the past, but the flavor and surprising tanginess blew me away. The Garlic Naan didn't hold up to paar - one half was good, but nothing special. The other half was burnt. Ambiance) For the price we paid (~$70), the ambiance was pretty mediocre. Inside, there are just standard seats, nothing special. The patio chairs outside weren't that comfortable at all, and overall the experience left alot to be desired. Overall) Great place, if your company is comping the meal, this place is worth. Otherwise, you gotta check it out at least once. If I had more money, I'd come here once a month. I was at the Zaika with my friend. We ordered dome mix of vegetarian and non vegan food. The starter which was grilled chicken was bland and bot like spicy indian tandoori chicken but a fusion of american chicken the malai sayce however added to malai flavor to the appetizer. Something worth mentioning is their "Tuna papdi chat" I am sure never Mumbaikars/Indians would have had a papdi chat like that. It was completely different than normal papdii chat in the sense it had tuna instead of normL potatoes we have in regular papdi chat. It's a mesmerizing taste. Their chickwn entree we ordered was redundant gravy with the veggie entrie(of the cottage pond/kofta curry) . Their veggie entree of kofta was good. The kofta was very different. I went to Zaika last night and it was an absolutely delightful experience. The decor was amazing and the host and servers were extremely affable and friendly. For the food we started off the with Kale Chaat which was DELICIOUS. I must recommend everyone to get that. We followed that with the large plates where we got the Nargisi Kofta and the Dahi Jeera Couliflower. Both of which were great. Special mention to the Dahi Jeera Couliflower whose gravy was so sumptuous and flavourful. Reminded of the Indian kandhi daal. However, the best was reserved for the end where we called for the cheesecake. It was a Valentines Day Special that was presented in the form of a heart.
