This place is popular so if you go on a Saturday or Sunday around lunchtime expect a 10 minute wait. Parking is ample. Staff is very nice and attentive. Food: #House Benedict: poached eggs over toast and lox. Portions bit on small side. The first Time I had it was very good. The second time was a little bit too salty. #Vietnamese Benedict: delicious, dipping sauce is good #Coconut French Toast: sooo good. The toasted coconut flakes are soo nicely roasted. Stopped in for Sunday brunch today, as we have several times over the passed 3-4 years. Again, delicious hot food served quickly by an efficient AND extremely attentive staff. I had the Tex Mex omelet with mixed fruit and white toast. Elsewhere on our table were another omelet, which was so big it's right now being finished for lunch, along with two orders of Coconut French toast. Bacon done perfectly. Full house this morning (we arrived just before 10 a.m.), all ages including older families, and yes, small children. We are fans for life. I figured this was a pretty good deal. A chicken salad sandwich with a side salad and potato salad for only $13. I ordered this for lunch and I'm sorry to say it was nasty. The chicken salad was so salty that I had to throw the entire sandwich away. I took 2 bites and all I tasted was salt! I was so disappointed. The potato salad lacked seasoning and had very little flavor. Lastly, the salad was just iceberg lettuce with a very sweet balsamic dressing that was awful. I came here in a party of 3 on a Saturday morning around 10am, and we had a short 10-minute wait before being seated. I got the Special Poached Eggs (two poached eggs on honey wheat toast with freshly roasted sweet red peppers, lightly dressed with charred tomato vinaigrette) and home fries. The poached eggs were good, but the home fries were definitely the winner. They were perfectly soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. However, the service here is really lacking. We saw our waiter take the orders of two tables who were seated after us before even reaching us to ask for a drink order. I had to ask for ketchup several times before it ever arrived at our table. If the food had been out-of-this-world delicious, I might have been able to overlook the poor service; alas, it was not. I won't be returning here. read more

You wouldn't realize this place is a cafe because it looks just like a house passing by. Despite this, it was packed. I went with a group of 5 on a Saturday at 12:30. We had to wait about half an hour to be seated, but the waitress was kind enough to take our orders while we waited. Exactly as she promised, our food was brought to the table almost as soon as we sat down. I don't usually order salads at restaurants because they tend to be overpriced but they don't skimp on the salads here. I ordered the lemongrass salmon and asparagus salad, which was flavorful and had a whole salmon fillet on a bed of spinach and romaine. Plus, at $14, the price was reasonable. Others of us ordered the crabmeat salad, wild duck salad, pumpkin ravioli salad, and chicken caesar salad. It didn't seem like you could really go wrong. Zakes Cakes started out as a bakery, so the cakes and cookies are high quality. We ordered a slice of the strawberry cream cake and chocolate cake. I'd highly recommend the chocolate cake - it's triple-layered with white cream, chocolate cream, and chocolate-truffle like decadence. Crowds are large during breakfast and brunch hours on the weekends! Prepare for at least 10-15 minutes wait. This place seems like it is inside of a family home, the entrance makes you feel as if you're entering someones home. There is very little room to move around in and when you are seated, you always will feel crammed. The menu includes are wide selection of breakfast, sandwiches, and brunch options. My intention was to order breakfast foods, french toast and their breakfast meal. Keep in mind that this breakfast place can be a bit pricey compared to your average diner. Their service can be a bit delayed and slow because of the high volume they take. read more

The portions here are ginormous! Definitely come here to get bang for your buck, because this restaurant is very generous with their servings. I ordered a breakfast burrito that was stuffed with eggs, tomatoes, cheese, avocado, and turkey bacon. It was so filling and hearty I managed to eat maybe half of it. While it wasn't terrible, I wish it had a bit more flavor/tasted a bit bland. What bothered me about my experience at this restaurant was not the food, but the service. Our waitress didn't smile, ask how we were doing, and barely looked up from her notepad. When my husband asked what meat was in the chicken sausage (to make sure there was no pork), she very rudely answered "it's a chicken sausage, so it's chicken." We were all put off by her tone and condescension and commented on it after she had left. It's unfortunate that happened because the restaurant is cute and homely, the food is good, and the other staff were very pleasant. What a tasty meal! We failed to share each other's meals, but if he was a girl I was dating, we probably would have. I had a water with lemon sans ice per my design. Delicious Coffee. I came here often before I became a "yelper" and I guess I never noticed a lot of things until now. So here are the things that I always encounter from all the years I dined at this place. First, the slowness of their service. It's a tiny brunch stuff and they always look so understaffed. Usually we have to ask couple times for coffee refill or water until you finally get it. Second, their consistency in their food. What I like about this place is the consistency they bring in their food. I can get the same thing a years later and it will taste exactly as I remembered before. Third, their tasty coffee. I am not sure what company they use for coffee but it is delicious! Lastly, the loudness of this place. Like mentioned before, the place is tiny and they overly sat people at this place. So I hear everyone's conversation without even trying to. If you're looking for a intimate spot to come to, this is not the place. Nothing changed when my husband and I came here for brunch Saturday. It was loud, slow service, the consistency of the food and the delicious coffee. But if anything, the quality of the service went down....so...much. I could not get a refill on the coffee until forever, we asked for 2 waters twice and finally got 1 water. I can overlook everything but...there was an egg shell on my poached eggs. But too bad I couldn't say anything to them since no one came by to ask if we were doing okay....I used to serve for years, so I understand how it is when it's busy. But it would be nice if we were asked if we were doing okay ONCE before we left this place. we will prob eat here again...knowing that we will get horrible service but at least they have a great coffee! read more

A delicious dinner of different twists on your favorite. I had the pumpkin ravioli, and it was delicious! We had the pear salad as an appetizer (which was delicious). Friends had the dim sum sampler, while my husband had the boneless pork chop. Y U M! I had the black and white gateaux for dessert (which they are known for). There was nothing really wrong with this cafe, but it was ridiculously overpriced for the food I received. I could've made the breakfast I paid over $10 for EASILY at home and was left unsatisfied and hungry afterwards. The side salad was literally a few leaves of lettuce with two tomato slices on top. I've got to be good the rest of the weekend. It's going to be all salads and healthy shakes. But that carrot cake was worth it. I made a reservation for dessert with two friends on Friday. The place had a homey ambiance and an inviting array of icing covered desserts in a display case. After reading over their insanely long dessert menu, I decided against one of the many chocolate pastries and opted instead for a large slice of carrot cake. The enormous wedge of cake arrived minutes later atop a dinner-sized plate with a garnish of fresh berries and a pool of homemade caramel. The cream cheese frosting was delicious and there was another kind of frosting in the center which had an even richer flavor. It was a killer dessert and totally worth the calories. Desserts run $7 and a cup of coffee or hot pot of tea will run you about $2.50. read more

BRUNCH REVIEW: Finally tried Zake's for Sunday lunch/brunch after my bfs mom had been raving about it - her and her girlfriends come regularly! So we decided to break from our normal routine and give it a try --- hello new routine!! At first glance the tables are quite close together, but I forgot about this soon after the food started to arrive. We each ordered. Sandwich, me the southwest club and he the crab salad sammy. Wowzaaaa! The bread was wonderful, basically everything you'd expect from a bakery and more, I was so pleased. My sandwich was full and packed with flavor, and my boyfriend shared the same adoration for his! The sandwiches came with homemade potato salad, ahhhhmazing as well, and a simple side salad. We licked our plates basically. Perfect brunch, although we ordered more like lunch. We will certainly be back, the brunchier options being consumed around us looked just as delectable. Yum! This has been a local favorite of mine for over 6 years. Great place for a date, girls brunch or family breakfast. In the past I would only get their omelets or Benedicts (because I loved them so much) but I've been branching out and trying some of their other dishes which are all unique. Been here for brunch twice now and I can accurately say that I am a fan! The first time I tried their Honey and Lemon Pancakes, which were nice because they weren't too sweet. The lemon added a nice brightness to the pancakes too! On this most recent visit, I shared their Coconut French Toast and Vietnamese Benedict. The french toast, again, was not too sweet, which is appreciated. Sometimes with a sweet breakfast, you just can't get yourself to finish it because of the sweetness factor but not here! I loved it with the caramelized mango that came on the side. As for the benedict, the pork and shrimp patty was very flavorful but the size was a little small for my taste. It just didn't match the size of the wheat toast favorably but that is a minor detail. I really liked the Tamari Ginger Dressing! It was tangy and paired perfectly with the patty. The egg had a nice runny yolk too, making me very happy. Satisfying meals both times and can't wait to come back to try some of their cakes! They look amazing in the display!! read more

It was their pancakes though, that left a lasting impression with me. The cafe is very quaint and welcoming. It was snowing pretty hard that morning and the place was still packed. Zake's has always been a good "go to place" for us. It is centrally located, it is byob & the food is consistently good. I never remember having a problem with service anytime we've been there - which has probably been at least 6 times (or more). We ate there with friends last weekend & they were extremely accomodating with our reservation (we had a "special circumstance".) One of the parties was a little late getting there on time but the restaurant was cool about it & did not RUSH to take our order - in fact they encouraged us to take our time. If anything - I think the food came out a little quicker than I would have liked - it definitely was swift & courteous service. Their dishes are very creative & we all enjoyed our appetizers, entrees & dessert. DEFINITELY GET - Lobster Mac n' Cheese - it is quite indulgent......be sure to check out the photos! read more

Zake's Café sits in an old stone house at the corner of Bethlehem Pike and the Lafayette Ave Connector. If there wasn't a large sign out front you might not even notice it as you drive by. I went to Zake's on January 2, 2011 around 10am. My brother and I were seated within 2-3 minutes of walking in the door and the place was almost filled to capacity. Zakes is very popular with the "ladies who lunch" crowd. If you haven't heard that term it's just rich housewife's that go out to eat because they don't work. My brother and I were sat at a two top table in the front room. Let's just say I felt like a sardine. We're both over 6ft tall and the table was very small and only about 2ft from the tables on either side. The tables were covered with white table cloths and one piece of white paper. The menus were printed out and the specials were stapled to the breakfast menu. I think they change their selections often so they must print them out daily. Our drink orders were taken within two minutes of being seated. My brother got water and a soda and I had an orange juice and coffee. There were about 5-8 specials which included Eggs Benedict over homemade roasted turkey and several other tasty creations. I ordered the Tex Mex Omelette ( ham, cheddar cheese, tomato, avocado) with a side of sausage and white toast. My brother got an omelette with crab meat and mushrooms. Both of our dishes came with homemade red bliss potatoes. I was shocked at how quickly our food came out. . I think it was maybe 5 minutes. First they brought out our toast. It was thick cut white bread that they might slice in house. I didn't ask but it was not your normal store bought variety. The omelettes' were cooked perfectly, flipped once and very light and fluffy. The red bliss potatoes' were roasted to a golden brown and seasoned just right. The total for the two of us was $34 and we left a $6 dollar tip. I will be going back to try out the dinner menu. read more

I LOVE THIS GEM! It is the best you can get in the suburbs. The portions are a bit smaller than what I am use to but price is more affordable than other brunch places. On Saturdays, it gets super pack so make sure to come early! Or prepare to wait at least 30 mins for a table and 30 minutes for food! I just want to add that...
