Do not be fooled by the credit card hold on the reservation for this place. This is a very laid back and not fancy bar. People were wearing the laziest attire and the drinks/food were all on the level of a chilis. I had a glass of wine with an extremely light pour.. If you are wanting a vibe do not come here. My daughter and I were visiting Austin from California, and our friends brought us to Zanzibar so we could get a 360 view of Downtown Austin and also check out the lake. From the moment we stepped into the elevator from street level, I could tell we were going to walk in to some very nice paradise themed interior decor and food/drink offerings. Zanzibar did not disappoint! It was a muggy, hot day, and they had their ceiling fans on full blast. Aside from the bar seating, everything was set up in an outdoor patio style setting and flanked by lots of plants and greenery. We ordered an assortment of food: banh mi, cubano sandwich, crab tostado, and their pupu platter, which consisted of jerk wings, shrimp skewers** - these were my fave!, duck egg rolls, pineapple salsa, and chips. We also ordered a Feels Like Summer (#1 ordered alcoholic beverage), cider, and the Clean Wave (non-alcoholic). Feels Like Summer was surprisingly smoky and spicy. Not my favorite, but not bad either! I love a place that does mocktails and non-alcoholic alternatives, and Zanzibar hit the nail right on the head. I took off a star for service; they were really busy and some things were missed. Otherwise, great experience overall. Zanzibar encompasses the vibrant energy that is Austin. This was a fun place to go while I was visiting Austin in the intense humid summer heat. The elevator up the the rooftop bar sets the experience at the start - it's decorated in foliage. Up at the top at the bar, it's a little cooler than down below. There are plants all over to give it a tropical jungle feel. The views of the city are really nice. The space is big, with lots of tables and lounging areas. The menu is tiki cocktails with fruity flavors. The drinks are beautiful- colorful and with fresh edible flowers in them. My drink was nice- not super delicious, a little too strong of an alcohol flavor if I recall. The menu has some interesting things, but it is very limited for vegetarians and is an appetizer menu, not full meal style. Its a tiki bar with the views. Keeping it simple, but making it work. It is a pretty large outdoor/covered tiki lounge, but they don't do the best jobs on filling them up. I saw multiple tables that were empty, but if you didn't have a reservation, you had to fight for the five tables at the bar. We stood for the first 30 minutes, but were able to grab a table. It wasn't a dealbreaker, but when you have so many other tables open, it looks weird. We didn't eat here, but instead got tiki drinks. They were actually decently good and packed a punch. As for the price, eh, its a Tiki Bar which tends to be a little higher end in price and quality. Compared to other Tiki Bars, it was slightly lower. The decor and the ambiance makes you feel like you're on vacation on an island in the middle of DT Austin. We checked in and were taken to our cabana. Unfortunately, it was slightly sprinkling but that didn't ruin the night. The bar is outside but they also have covered seating. Our waiter Mateo was so fun and nice! Great recommendations and easy to work with and down with the vibes. DRINKS: I ordered the hibiscus sunrise and it was delicious!! Can't taste the alcohol but after 2 I was feeling great. Super refreshing and the right amount of sweetness. The other girls ordered feels like summer, traidwinds, and clean waves (non-alcoholic.) Feels like summer had a kick to it with the spicy vodka and it was tasty. These are the kind of drinks that you can't taste the alcohol but HIT! We also ordered a tequila passionfruit shot for the birthday girl. FOOD: we decided to order the Pu Pu Platter for the group and the Pulled Pork Sliders. The platter comes with perfectly grilled and seasoned shrimp skewers, tasty and delicious jerk wings, flavorful duck rolls, and a tasty pineapple salsa and chips. It was our first time visiting Zanzibar, and the experience started off on the wrong foot. When we arrived on the 7th floor, we approached the hostess stand, but the hostess was engaged in a conversation with her coworkers and didn't acknowledge us at all. After we finally managed to get her attention, she seated us, but things didn't improve from there. About being seated our server came over with a noticeably cold attitude and asked what we wanted. We ordered a bottle of wine, but her demeanor remained unwelcoming, which made us feel out of place. We traveled as a couple in the summer of 2025, and Bamboo Zanzibar was our first stop. We stayed for two nights: a bungalow on the first night and an "open villa" on the second. We paid a very high price, expecting a luxury hotel, but what we found was the exact opposite. The property is in a state of decay, nothing like the photos online. It is isolated in the middle of the forest, with no proper roads or paths, and the rooms are scattered in an unorganized way. The common areas and the pool were dirty and unusable, the sea was practically inaccessible, and the service was poor to non-existent: the staff seemed disorganized and unhelpful. The rooms felt neither safe nor comfortable: we found insects, cobwebs, and unacceptable hygiene conditions for a resort that markets itself as high-end. The first night we couldn't sleep at all due to the lack of basic care and the presence of animals inside. Overall, the experience was extremely negative. We felt disappointed and unsafe. Having stayed at truly high-level hotels, we can confidently say this is not one of them. If you already have a booking, we strongly suggest reconsidering -- this place is not worth the money or the trouble. read more

I tried everything on the happy hour menu except the Feels like Summer cocktail. the Dukes pearl was literally and tropical and the Devil in the Deep Blue Sea had a strong finish due to the bourbon but it was still sweet. The jerk wings tasted fine but definitely lacked that authentic jerk seasoning just roasted chicken with a side of limes. I enjoyed the BBQ slider. However, we ordered everything on the menu, and we felt satisfied. As such, we canceled our dinner plans. Since I had some drinks from the menu, I forgot to take pictures. I recall the sliders were delicious. They are larger than I am accustomed to getting at bars, and for three bucks, they were a steal!!! The grilled pineapple salsa comes with chips to dip, and I appreciated the saltiness paired with the sweetness of the pineapple. Generally, I am accustomed to standard salsa chips, but I liked the twist. I did not try the chicken wings because the slider filled me up. However, others at the party found them juicy, and the sauce on them was on point. Third, The ambiance is lively yet laid-back, creating the ideal setting for mingling with friends or unwinding after a long day.
