Great tasting food. Sometimes the carne asada is great, sometimes I don't think they use the correct cut for "carne asada". The interior is very clean, the service is quick and friendly. There is a fresh salsa bar which is another plus. The salsas are alright, just slightly misses what I expect, coming from CA I suppose I'm a bit set in my ways. They only have a lesser rating due to their high prices. Going for lunch shouldn't border on $20, IMO. I suppose the pricing is becoming par for the course these days, and you can definitely do worse around here. read more

Zapata offers everything you want from a taco shop with great tacos and great salsas. The pastor taco was great, having a ton of flavor in the meat. The quesabirria taco was the stand out with a nice crisp outside with the cheese and tortilla with nice melty cheese inside. The birria was also full of flavor. The most lacking taco was the Taco Zapata as the grilled steak didn't have any real flavor. The salsa bar is the highlight for me. There are so many salsa options and they are all enjoyable. The extra hot red salsa was my favorite as it made a nice blend between heat and flavor. Would recommend Zapata as one of the best tacos in Colorado Springs. read more

Just purchased Nachos. Used to have at least twice the amount of ground beef. Now it's about a 1/3 cup maybe, mostly chips. The salad like salsa I remember was not there. The Queso was watered down. This used to be such a great place. I rather pay more money and have the real thing. read more

And OMG, after having my 1 taco de tripa, tripe taco, and the spiciest salsa they had I was IN HEAVEN!! The tripa was super crunchy and the salsa made me sweat just like I LOVE IT!! My guy had a quesa taco and he loved it. We came for a little "snack" but I couldn't help myself and I got another taco ! Did I mention the margarita! We got 2 tacos and a margarita for $18 bucks! I'm very disappointed in their "birria" burrito. Birria is supposed to be marinated in chilis and spices. Spoke to the lady at the front counter and told her that it even tasted like carnitas and she assured me it was beef birria. There's a difference in taste between beef and pork. If you made a mistake just make it right don't try to tell me it's not pork. read more

Let me preface this by saying i'm a Californian, so I did not expect everyone to be so friendly! Honestly, service was great. SUPER FRIENDLY from the moment we walked in. Great portions and fresh food makes for a superb dining experience. Also, kudos to you for playing actual Hispanic artists on the radio! Salsa was deliciously spicy and mouth-watering (especially the green one!) We got 2 kids quesadillas, 2 carne asada burritos, guacamole & a pollo asada burrito. I only remived one star for 2 reasins, the carne asada was good, but the chicken was dry & bland, easily fixable with salsa though & prices for tacos are a but outrageous- $3.25/taco? :/. Short version: OH YEAH! I am from Arizona and thus picky about my Mexican food. I usually avoid eating Mexican food outside the border states, but welcomed am excuse to try Zapatas (thank you Alex G. for getting promoted!) Well HELLO... I mean HOLA... Let's start with the carnitas. Wow - delicious with just a bit of crispiness. The steak tacos were also fantastic, and the fish...yes... sí. The onions and cilantros crowning the tacos were fresh and just the right chop, and the salsas are terrific too. If I have one complaint, it's that everything is mild (for those Colorado palates I guess), but I didn't ask and they do make spicier salsa. I loved it enough to return the next day to pick up two boxes of tacos for my kid's birthday party (teenagers + tacos!) Boxes of 10 tacos include rice, beans, and chips, and if feeding teens, I suggest the guac too. Service: lovely! She even let me practice my rusty Spanish. It was a fine/ typical strip mall Mexican restaurant. Not bad by any means, but just average. I got the carne asada taco, which was disappointing (coming from San Diego I have expectations). The beef was fine, but dry, there was a good amount of meat, but the rest was kind of lackluster and it was missing that juicy texture and flavor. The carnitas tacos were a little better, more flavor, a bit moister, but again missing a sauce or salsa or something to move it up to the "good" level. The fish taco was good, but of course, it had a sauce, which was nice, that helped moisten each bite and round out the flavor. An average size, 9 booths and a couple tables, order at the counter and sit at a table and they bring it out. Staff did their job, but nothing else really to say about that. Tried this place for the first time because the Pho place we wanted to try in the same shopping center sadly closed down. Their Carnitas was good but honestly Chipotle is just as good, their Asada Nachos were disappointing definitely not loaded like many other places load them and their AL Pastor burrito was just ok. Hidden away off in a strip mall on Voyager, this little taco shop serves the standard mexican fare, but more to the likings of Cali type audiences who are used to near the border type offerings. The carne asada, chorizo breakfast and bacon breakfast burritos were done well, tasty, of moderate size, without any skimping on the protein needed for the fulfilling experience that is the burrito adventure. The shop is super clean, and constant cleaning and covid appropriate behavior is ongoing. Lots of parking in the front, easy access and egress. Only issue is the limitation of the salsa given, and the automatic verde and rojo included - need to have the more spicy latter in the given case, and the verde was essentially wasted. read more
