Ya know, I don't hate this place--truly, I really want to like it. The atmosphere was nice and the staff were cool and friendly, but the food was just not good. I imagine they must do something right here, but I obviously did not order it. Unfortunately, the Yemeni kebab was burnt to the point it was drier than the desert, the hummus was weirdly too creamy, the babaganoush had a fizzy sourness yo it like kombucha, and the Yemeni lemonade was so bitter that even sugar couldn't reform it. They also served the plate with salsa, which is kind of odd?? Although, the salsa they offer is better than any salsa I've gotten in the city, it wasn't enough. The staff are the first two stars, the salsa is the third. Hopefully I can try something of theirs in the future that hits right because it's really a shame Zatar felt sort of like a flop :( read more

First time trying this place in my quest to find the best falafel in NYC. (Seriously, I love falafel.) I ordered a Falafel sandwich with a side fries and a side of tzatziki sauce. Let's start with the Tahini sauce that comes on the sandwich: not bad. I usually find Tahini to be hit or miss so I ordered tzatziki sauce as a back up. Gotta say this was the mintiest tzatziki sauce I've ever tasted. The sauce teeters on the boarder of refreshing and overpowering. The pita was however really soft and fresh, wonderful. The falafel itself left much to be desired. It wasn't really flavorful at all. Lacked spice and flavor, but was moist. My fries were coated in a Zatar seasoning that was seemingly poured on top and not tossed in the fries, so I had some soggy clumps of fries with loads of dried seasoning. Definitely won't make my top 10 best falafel in nyc list but it is edible. read more

So while walking down Myrtle the other day, I pass this new modern store front with Zatar written on the window. Well, anyone who knows me knows that anything middle eastern, I AM THERE! So I walk in and am greeted by a friendly employee at the cashier. It's order at the till and they bring the food to you. I was with a friend at the time and we were both interested in healthy options. We ended up ordering the same thing. We got lattes and a salmon salad. The lattes were awesome and flavorful. Aboslutely love the brand of beans they use but I forgot to ask the name. The reason for the 4 stars and not 5 stars is the wait for the salmon salad. If I calculated correctly (in a non busy store) we waited about 25 minutes for the salad. I've made this salad at home plenty of times, it takes no more than 10 max 15 minutes. Simple greens and pieces of salmon on top. The salad happened to be super flavourful and delicious and I'd totally order it again. But I hope they can work on their timing to execute orders a little faster. Overall, our experience was lovely and if I'm ever in the area again I will totally stop by to try some of their other products. So when I first ordered my food through seamless I was really disappointed that several of the food items described under the meal were missing. To pay $18 + tax for one dish and wait 30 min for I was annoyed. So I called back and they immediately apologized and sent over a whole new dish, this time with the veggies and the sauce (and they threw in an extra free sauce!). My father in law had a pizza. Looked fantastic (he says it is!) the Mrs had eggs with the salmon and she thoroughly crushed it! I am soooo excited about having this place in the neighborhood! I can't emphasize enough how delicious the food is. Everything we ate was so well seasoned, balanced, and absolutely packed with flavor. The muhammara was incredible - just try it!! It's served with warm pita bread made freshly in-house. The bread is so soft and pillowy and just perfect. I could honestly eat it plain, it's that delicious. Next time I'm going to order a flatbread so I can get more of that pillowy goodness :) We also tried the fried halloumi sandwich and chicken kebab with rice and salad. Both were excellent and presented beautifully. The chicken was incredibly tender while being perfectly well cooked, which is not easy to pull off. The guys who run zatar are super friendly and fun to chat with. Lots of laughs and they clearly get true joy out of making and sharing the food. They took the time to learn our names and even gave us some free items in exchange for our honest feedback. Of course our feedback was all positive considering how delicious the food was. An added plus is that they're Brooklyn natives who care about the community and neighborhood. I can't wait to go back and try other menu items.
