Stopped by Sol Toro and immediately loved that they bring out complimentary chips and salsa once you're seated. We also ordered the tableside guac and liked that you can customize the spice level from mild to spicy. The guac itself was fresh and delicious, though the mild had no real heat and tasted more lemon-forward, so next time I'd definitely go with medium or spicy. I ordered the chimichanga which was very flavorful, and my mom really enjoyed the pollo asado bowl. My brother got tacos, which, since both of our meals came with a side of rice and beans, was explained that it would come out "family style", but the portions were surprisingly small. I stopped in here last night with my friends to celebrate cinco de mayo. They had a luge ice stand to do shots of patron, so obviously we had to try that. The tableside guac was fantastic as always, and we decided to do a tequila free at our table too, which was so fun. I was so full at this point that I just got some elote as an entree, but I def wanted tacos if I could have been able to eat them. Good Mexican food here right in the casino. To drink I ordered the FROZEN FLIGHT of margaritas for $ 25 it came traditional, mango, strawberry, coconut. For appetizers we enjoyed the CHICKEN TAQUITOS for $14 guacamole, queso fresco, pico de gallo. BEEF EMPANADAS For $ 14 creamy tomatillo salsa. We had a reservation for 545, but they set us at 5:30 when we arrived. The host was super nice, and the woman who sat us was very friendly. The front of the dining room was very busy, but we were seated in the back where it wasn't as busy. The vibe is super cool. The walls have beautiful tiles on them and they had a live DJ that was playing ridiculously good music. We were greeted immediately by our waitress, who brought us waters and asked if we wouldn't like beverages. My wife ordered a mocktail, which was reasonably priced and I ordered a spicy mango margarita. My wife's mocked tail was very sour, but she definitely liked it. My cocktail was not spicy at all unfortunately, however, it was still good! They gave us chips before our drinks even arrived with salsa that was a bit spicy, I really liked it. We ordered queso for a starter and they brought us more chips with the queso. It was not like the case so that we get at home, it had a mixture of yellow and white cheese. They also gave us fried jalapeños on the side, which was a nice touched! I ordered buffalo cauliflower tacos, and had the choice of flour or corn tortillas, which was nice. They weren't very spicy, but they were delicious in the cauliflower was fresh and crisp. I would definitely eat them again. My wife ordered a vegetarian burrito and it was giant! I ordered a second drink, which was a tequila cosmopolitan, as that is my favorite drink. I would recommend getting that over the margarita as for the same cost, you get a little more and it's actually a lot better than the margarita. SALT SALT SALT! ! My first time here was not a good experience. Everything was way too salty!! It first started when we followed the hostess to the very end of the restaurant to a 8 person table, meanwhile there was only two of us. So we asked of is there is a smaller table? There was plenty of tables everywhere and she takes us to this one. Duh! lol So we sit down and we order table side guacamole which was made fresh. As she made it with her cart of ingredients we got excited. We asked for non spicy and extra onion. So we got the chips which were already salty (as they should) and first few bites wasn't bad and then after the third chip all I tasted was pure salt! I like my salt but this was overload! Guacamole should never be salty. Salty chips and very salty guacamole is not a good pairing. This is the first time where the guacamole was very disappointing. After a few minutes, another person with the margarita cart came to ask if we wanted margaritas. No Thanks! We couldn't risk it. We both hoped our entrees would be good. Maybe she just added extra salt and didn't realize. I ordered chicken tacos. It wasn't bad at first, but after finishing the first one the salt hit me. WTF is going on?! My friend ordered birria tacos and came with dipping sauce. Wasn't sure which was saltier, her tacos or the sauce. At this point we realized the entire meal no what matter what was ordered was pure salt! We had to order glasses of water back to back. The waiter was nice. It seemed like whoever was cooking that night loved their salt. I looked at the bar and thought did the bartender make salty drinks? Lol I hated thinking about it but that was all that lingered on my mind. Those with high blood pressure should not come here. Seriously. Right inside Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT. Parking is free in the casino lot. Margaritas are about $15 each, were tasty and the right mix of alcohol and mix. Entrees start at about $17++ and up They promise unlimited or bottomless chips and salsa. The salsa was tasty and chips in a small tin bucket were thin and not too salty, but the right crisp- not stale nor soggy. There are a few booths but often taken quickly leaving regular table seating. This is one of the more moderately priced full service restaurants in casino. Part of the seating is in open near gambling and the rest as well as booths inside opposite the bar area. There is no restroom inside this venue, you have to step out around the front about 50' to get to casino restaurant instead. ADA compliant. It is recommended to make reservations if you can as this gets busy on weekends and at dinner time. Food was great taste wise but the reason they get only three stars is for a number of reasons: 1. A $29 rice dish can out cool, sent back. It came out a second time not as cool, but slightly warm. Gave up a third time as we had to get to a show on time. Tasty but cold; and 2. They charge you extra for grilled chicken on the chimichanga instead of the mexicali chicken (dark meat). But they don't tell you that there is a $8 difference, nor does the menu make a distinction. So you've had a few drinks or in a rush you would never know they milked you for an extra $8 bucks if you choose grilled instead of mexicali. Nope, the waitress just asked which one we wanted and did not disclose there was an upcharge for grilled chicken. Fortunately, after questioning the anomally both the waitress and manager went over the menu carefully, and found there was no choice nor price difference if there was. So the manager adjusted the price to the one and only one posted. The grillen chicken on the chimichanga was abundant and tasty. As far as the cold entree. No adjustment or comp for a hot meal served cold two times. I have nothing against the food, just against the lack of transparency, poor food preparation (cold to luke warm food that is supposed to come out hot - makes you think it was sitting around awhile). Wait staff was pleasant and manager professional. Ambience was casual, music was moderate level and ambient noise was not horrifically noisy. We dined last Saturday around 4pm. Seated right away in a nice cozy table. The gentleman that served the table side margaritas was so knowledgeable about the tequila and restaurant. Got in within 15 minutes on a Wednesday night before a show at the arena (meaning we ate dinner at about 5:15pm). It was getting busy by the time we were leaving, so would make reservations on a show night. Menu had a pleasing variety of options, and menu prices were not as bad as expected given the casino location. We appreciated that the dining area was a bit removed from the main casino floor, so you don't feel "exposed" while dining. Food was delicious (especially the guacamole, which came with my entreé) and came very quickly - almost too quickly, as we received our entreés at the same time we received our drinks. This points to our one general criticism, which is that service is somewhat uneven. We were greeted quickly and warmly, and our server came to our table in a timely manner. Our orders were taken and we received chips and salsa, and then our server was gone for quite a while (which explains why we got our drinks at the same time as our food). Our meals were dropped off by a runner, and we didn't see our server again until we were almost done eating; had we had any issues with our meal, we wouldn't have been able to share them. Hi, We went here for dinner before the Patti LaBelle concert. This was my first time at this restaurant. I tell you they did not disappoint on no level. The food was amazing, the service exceptional and the DJ (Louie Dvyne) was awesome. The live music made the ambience very nice. Only thing missing was a dance floor. LOL This restaurant knows what customer service looks like. Today customer service is a lost art in food service industry. The general manager Andrew Bengtson came around to ask how was the food and see if we were enjoying ourselves. Kathy our waitress was awesome. She helped with recommendations. Kathy has been in food services for 20 years and 8 months at Sol Toro and she knew her stuff. Great spot for dinner! Lots of various Mexican options and lots of drinks. Kind of expensive for the food but I think it being in the casino raises the prices. They can accommodate large parties and they do take reservations. There was indoor seating and "front patio" seating overlooking the casino floor. Service was nice but a little slow on refills. My family and I went on a Saturday afternoon, right before the dinner rush. The hostess asked us if we had reservations and we didn't, but we got right in. I gather that you would need one if you go a little later than us. The place was packed with a long wait, shortly after, while we were dining. Our waiter was prompt and friendly. He brought out complimentary, two buckets of freshly fried tortilla chips and salsa; those were good but I would've loved a spicier version of the salsa. I started off with their $15 coconut margarita, ouch, but those prices were expected, given the location. The margarita was delicious, it had 1800 coconut, white cranberry juice, coconut milk, and lime juice. For my meal, I had 3 tacos which came with rice and beans. I opted for the pork belly ($18) which had avocado crema, agave glaze, and roasted pickled veggies; wow, those were amazing. It was sweet, savory, and tangy with a bit of a crunch from the pork belly. One minor criticism is, the water glasses should be taller than their current ones, since I was done with my water by mid meal. The waiter was good but he did get a large party walk in so he got busy which I get. I was able to flag him down for the water. Such a beautiful restaurant. Was spotted from when I was on the 2nd floor of Mohegan Sun. So I had to check this place out. I was lucky enough to only had to wait 20 minutes for a table. Greeters we're all so friendly. I took some great shots of the menu for you guys. I never had anything table side so that was pretty cool even if it was just freshly made guacamole that tasted so good. . I had ordered the chicken soft flour tacos with yellow rice hold the beans. Fried plantains just the right color and texture for me. . My partner he ordered the steak with corn tacos. we were so full that sadly we did not save room for dessert. Was at the casino for a cheer competition and had some time to kill. My wife and I had made a 2pm reservation on a Saturday but despite the competition going on the restaurant was empty. Started with a margarita flight which was awesome (coconut was our favorite). Loved the inclusion of the toasted coconut flakes and the sour worms. We just spilt a few appetizers. Tableside guac was awesome. Chicken taquitos were fine but I wouldn't feel the need to order again. The corn risotto was fantastic though and I'd come back simply for this. I had a decent experience at Sol Toro with my boyfriend, but it would not be my first choice of restaurant at Mohegan (unless I was really craving margaritas and guac!) We each got a frozen margarita and they were pretty tasty & strong. We wish we would have opted for the frozen margarita flight, though. We shared tableside guac (luckily toppings were free since it was "Top Your Guac Wednesday"), and it was super fresh, made right at your table, and very tasty. My entree was honestly my least favorite part - it was decent, but for $29 I would not order it again. I understand that casino restaurants are pricey, but $15 for a side of guacamole (which would have been $20 on any other day of the week) seems excessive. Overall, the service was attentive, the environment was relaxed but upscale, and the food was good. But again, I wouldn't have to go back anytime soon for a $100 date night. read more

I dined at SolToro during my stay at Mohegan Sun. We ordered the margarita flight, the tableside guacamole, the chicken quesadilla, and the short rib tacos. The margarita flight came with three flavors: original, coconut, and strawberry. Unfortunately, we weren't able to drink the strawberry and original because they were unbearably sweet. You couldn't taste any alcohol, just sugar. After we ordered, we never received the table side guac & our entrees came out within 10 minutes. At that time, we canceled the tableside guacamole because we assumed that it was an appetizer and our entrees would have followed that. The entrees were good however, the rice and beans tasted microwaved. For the quality of the food, the prices are very high. Lay-off the salt! I've truly never had food so heavily salt that I couldn't taste the food itself until my visit to Sol Toro before a basketball tournament. My niece and I both ordered the burrito with Mexicali chicken. The burrito came with black bean puree and Mexican/Spanish rice. Now I have traveled the world, but when I tell you this is probably the best Mexican food I have ever had...I truly mean it. I got my food to go and it was still delicious the day after. The service the ambience everything is great about this place. I ordered the steak tampiquena and it is easily one of my fav dishes in the world. What a beautiful dining room and excellent service. We arrived for lunch after checking in to the Hotel. It was shortly after Noontime and it wasn't crowded at all. We were promptly seated then greeted by our server. Shortly after, someone else brought out some chips and salsa. The chips were still warm and lightly salted. There was also a hint of lime. They were delicious. My husband ordered the buffalo cauliflower tacos which are served with rice and refried beans. He ordered flour taco shell instead of corn and that was a good choice. The flour shells tasted better with the cauliflower. I know this because the tacos were generously filled and he knew he couldn't eat all three-so he suggested I have one. The buffalo cauliflower was crispy and not overly spicy. I ordered a side of the corn risotto and it was enough for a meal for me! It was delicious! Because it was lunch time, we did not order any drinks, only water. Our server kept our glasses full throughout the meal and remained attentive for any of our needs. Typically I have had fair experiences here. It has good drinks and decent food. However, I just ate here last night and our nachos had literal plastic in them. A manager passed by and took them away and offered to get us new nachos. When the new nachos came back, the pork on them was inedible, he ended up scrounging and just eating some chips that didn't have meat on them. When we first ordered they brought us the wrong margaritas as well. Honestly when this has happened before and with the plastic and us not even eating the second round they brought due to meat I didn't expect it to be on the bill and once it was, just wanted to pay and leave to go somewhere else to get food. We have eaten at Sol Toro multiple times and the food is excellent. Our personal favorite is sharing the table side Quac with bacon corn risotto. We also love upgrading the fajitas with filet mignon and shrimp. We always share that as well. The servers are very good and the drinks are excellent as well. read more
