For 5 years I have lived across the street and have been so thankful this restaurant is there. In the morning I get the best bacon egg and cheese bagel I have ever had, french toast and fresh homemade (what I call) cheese danish. For lunch/ dinner I get the large dinner of Spanish rice and roasted pork that falls apart when you touch it, and is so juicy and tender that it leaves me satisfied. I had no idea! Once you get a parking spot, head in for a sincerely delicious and cheap lunch special for a happy meat eater. Choose from white or yellow rice, do you want the beans (YES, it's just a small scoop of soupy flavor to drown your rice), a sweet plaintain (sure), and your choice of meat--beef, ribs, pork chop, stewed chicken, and fried chicken. Totally ignored the place for almost a year because I thought it was just a convenience store. It's definitely a hole in the wall/best kept secret sort of place. The food is on par with the fanciest of establishments, and that's what counts. I've gotten to try dishes you don't see anywhere else. In the beginning, I was getting their meat w/ rice, beans and plantains quick meal that's already prepared and always simmering, and eventually started trying meals off the menu - one, similar to the above, but with cactus slices as the focus. Tried a handful of things from burgers to hungryman breakfasts. It's all amazing. Typically, I grab a Mexican Pepsi or Coke on the way out - made with real sugar. Big fan. I'm a vegetarian but my friends do like their pork so we go every now and again. But... they recently decided to open on Sundays (probably trying to make up for covid I think) and I made the mistake of sending my friend to pickup takeout for $10+ I got a pile of day old dry rice (obviously from Saturday or scary to think maybe even Friday) about maybe 30 beans, I should have really counted and 4 plantains something like that, with fresh rice, should be about $5-6, definitely no more than $8. but $10/11 wtf? don't be greedy and open if you're not going to make and serve decent food lost a customer for life hope that extra $10 made you feel good read more

The reviews are good! So I was in town doing laundry at the local laundry mat and stopped here for some authentic Spanish cuisine! So good! So flavorful! Really felt like I was at my abuelas! I got yellow rice, and with 1 meat it's $8.00 for a large. With 2 meats it's $12 for the large size. Deliciouso! read more

Quick and easy good food, cafeteria style but certain dishes are made to order. Usually there are different desserts in the glass case like flan or tres leche cake. Everything there is authentic, from the empanadas to the rice and beans. They have breakfast sandwiches, sides, and coffee in the morning as well. Prices are good and there are many side options. I haven't been able to go back home to visit family in Puerto Rico. El Rancho Tropical sounded like a good place to get my fix of similar food from home. I bought two guava pastries, a meat fritter, and Pernil with sweet plaintains and yellow rice with pidgeon peas and red beans on top. When I took a bite of the meat fritter in my car, I'd be lying if I said a tear didn't roll down my face. Got home and opened up the plate with the pernil, took my first bite stacked with the rice and beans... reminded me of christmas . I'll definitely become a regular now at this place. read more

What a gem in downtown Norwich! It's across the street from the courthouse. My son and I were pleasantly greeted by the chef who was more than happy to satisfy our order. He explained what he had prepared and also took the time to tell us what he didn't have. But believe me, there was plenty to choose from. It's a combination of Mexican favorites along with some customary Dominican influenced food. I had a custom burrito with chourizo and queso cheese with some beans and rice on the side. Delicious! My son opted for a steak quesadilla with all the fixin's. Huge portions of stick to your ribs comfort food! And the chef also let us try some secret pico de gallo which he offered us as we said we like hot stuff! We ordered to go (during covid pandemic) went home and indulged on this Hispanic fare and loved every bite! read more

Delicious food and really nice people! My boyfriend had the pork shoulder with rice and beans and the skin was so crispy. I had the steak which was melt in your mouth. The plantains and empanadas were also some of the best I've ever had. Good price and the woman who took our order was super nice to us. Definitely coming back. read more
