4.5 Ive often found that my chinese food experiences are either bad or just darn good. this one was darrrrrrnnnnnnn good. this place is def what everyone else says it is, super clean with an extremely friendly and helpful staff. I'm really surprised this place hasn't had more business...the foods pretty delicious! we ordered a lot and everything was either good or like REALLY good. the chow mein was super delicious...yes, a little bit oily...but i happen to not mind a little extra greasiness (on my pizza, on my fries, on my chow mein, a paper bag soaked with grease...i know a lot of people get grossed out by it but for some reason, in my head, i tend to equate it to a glistening savory invitation to deliciousness) the salt and pepper shrimp was really good and the wonton soup was extra tasty..had pork, veggies and cute little perfect dumplings that can't be anything but home made..or at least...can pass as homemade. honey glazed walnut shrimp was really good and i also would highly recommend the kung pao chicken.....we ordered a crap load of other dishes but the ones i mentioned were just my favorites. i def hope this place is around for awhile because it is really good quality stuff and u can actually see the chefs in the back cooking..well..from their necks up anyways :) if ur in visalia or from visalia, must give his place a try. read more

This place is awful. There was literal no flavor in any of my dishes. I got the dinner #2 plate with orange chicken, chicken and broccoli, fried rice, chicken chow mein, chicken wing, and fried shrimp. The orange chicken and shrimp were the only 2 things palatable. Other than that the fried rice was burnt, the noodles tasted stale and majority of the food tasted old. The waitress has made us wait at least 10 minutes to order when there was maybe 2 other tables dining. I saw such good reviews and this was seriously the complete opposite. The staff was exceptionally friendly. The service was also very fast. I came late and hadn't eaten all day, so I ordered two meals. My plates had about 2 grams of vegetable sprinkled into large piles of rice & noodles. I asked the very nice staff for something with vegetables to go with my huge feast. They quickly brought me another large platter, this one covered in vegetables...and butter. If there's anything healthy on the menu here, I couldn't find it. I disagree with the fellow Yelper predicting imminent demise for Zen Asian Diner. This place will fit right in with the large number of central valley folk with a hankering for diabetes. read more

I visited this place for the first time with my husband, niece, and father-in-law on Saturday. My father-in-law highly recommended it, and I can see why! The food is really good! And it's a mixture of Asian, which includes Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese. My niece and I shared a dinner combination plate, which was only $9 and enough food for the two of us. :) I can't wait to go back to Visalia because I am so visiting this place again. They had so much to choose from, and the pictures on the menu looked amazing! Every time I go to Visalia, I am determined to somehow sneak this place into my meal schedule. The food was horrible 50 bucks for literally eating nothing! My kids that usually eat about anything being teenagers left a table full of food and couldn't be convinced to take any of it home!! We've ordered from here so many times that when the delivery guy got another order with the same street name as ours, he automatically came to our house. Their food was (and still is) INCREDIBLE. It tastes SO good....however....the reason for my 3 star, and the reason we will no longer be ordering from there is that the last several times we have had their food we've all suffered Horrible stomachs aches that evening and the next day which has never been the case before. Even though the food tastes wonderful, clearly, something changed and their food is no longer good to eat. Breaks my heart, but we can no longer eat at a place that makes us sick. read more

Stopped in to get some food to-go this evening. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Food was ready very quickly. Ordered the chicken and vegetables which was good enough. Not spectacular but good. Veggies were fresh tasting and cooked just how I like them, as opposed to soggy like they can often be. Rice was tasty. Chicken was tasty. Cheese wontons were delicious. I only like the Mongolian beef dish here. I've tried a lot of the other dishes which just seems ok to me. All their fried dishes like honey walnut shrimp, sweet n sour pork, lemon or orange chicken - they tend to be over breaded with batter which i don't really like, because it's like you are eating more fried batter than there is meat. read more

My new favorite Asian Restaurant in Visalia. Great food portion as well as great service. No complaints on any of the dishes I've ordered and tried. My wife and I tried the dinner for 2 and we ordered Hot and sour soup to start off with and egg rolls. We also ordered Lemon Chicken and Mongolian beef. $10 for a large rice. I am sure it was not 5lbs worth of rice so they made nothing but money. They charge $6 for delivery and require appx $30 of food to deliver. That means when I had the flu this past winter I could not just get soup unless I ordered enough for 6 people even though I live alone. I ran into their waitress off duty and was told they charge their employees a percentage of their tips to offset their card charges. read more

We absolutely love this place from the owners to the atmosphere! Everyone is always so friendly, we go here for lunch and for family dinners. The service is always fast and the food is always delicious my personal favorite is the honey walnut shrimp and the Vietnamese salad, portions are always large enough for leftovers and even better for a late night snack. read more

Food was great however I just saw the delivery man accidentally drop a stack of clean cups on the floor in a high foot traffic area. He then puts them back without cleaning them. Absolutely amazing! Accidentally found this place when no one else was delivering. Don't know why I took a chance and ordered Pad Thai at a Chinese restaurant but I was shocked by the amazing flavor! My Wife and I had dinner there this evening, and it was very good--It's hard to get any kind of committed response from my wife about how good a place is, but as we walked out the door this evening, unprompted, she said "We need to come back here again before I go (she's going back 'home' next week while we're in the process of moving out to Visalia. I had the double mushroom shrimp, and she had the honey walnut shrimp, both were very nice. The double mushroom had a nice, savory sauce and lots of lightly cooked veggies, as well as tasty shrimp and two kinds of mushrooms. The honey walnut was very crispy coated shrimp with sweet, creamy honey sauce that had a hint of citrus in the flavor profile. We'll be back here again. read more

My delivery time was quoted to take 45 minutes and it ended up taking 2 hours. This place is only 10 minutes away! I wish I could comment on the quality of the food but it was already cold when I finally received it. No apology from the driver either. Just excuses. Zen lost me as a customer for life. We, as a family, really like the food here. The kids really like the corner "blue" booth...it keeps them more "entertained" than the regular booths/tables. The place is really clean and open and the bathrooms are always clean and that's an absolute must in my book!! We have yet to be disappointed in the food here! Kids like it, we like it, and everyone we have taken here likes it. Service is great and fast and the food is good the next day too! Who knew??? LOL Anyhow, I recommend the Peking chicken. Tonight I went to Zen with a large group of friends for dinner. I have been there a number of times before and the waitress recognized me. Service has always been good and their soups are excellent. Tonight I was very disappointed in the food and the service. I ordered teriyaki beef which was thickly coated with a thick overly sweet sauce that was more like syrup. The worst part was after the food was payed for mostly individually the waitress came outside where I was talking with friends and said that I didn't pay for my meal. I explained that I had paid for it plus had left over 2 dollars in tip for a 10 dollar entree. Kept insisting that I had not payed and was embarrassed in front of my friends. I payed for the meal a second time while she continued to argue with me. Will never go back. Extremely poor customer service. read more

I've lived all over and spent the past several years in San Francisco. In doing so I have been treated to SF's best Chinese restaurants by several first-generation Chinese-American friends (always eager to take the "central valley white boy" to experience authentic Chinese food). From Citiview Dim Sum to Henry's Hunan to chilled chicken claws, I've been exposed to it all. Now back in Visalia and somewhat burned out on the Chine-oakie offerings downtown, I am thrilled to see Zen Asian Diner open up. We grabbed some take out from this place last night and it was great. Americanized, yes, but so what! Tender, sinew-and-gristle free cuts of meat in the beef and chicken dishes, and the chow fun was spectacular! The sauces were balanced with spiciness and not drenched in putrid sweetness or go-to heat of a few generic pepper sprinkles. My kids NEVER ask for seconds on Chinese food ... but begged for more orange chicken and even threw down their veggies without a "reminder". Their menu is diverse and interesting, I look forward to going back and trying a new item each visit (to accompany the good old standbys). Thanks Zen! read more
