Our oolong tea drinks were no more than milk - no tea taste and pure white. The boba was hard and crumbled when bitten instead of being chewy. The matcha was ordered at 50% sweetness, but was so sugary without any matcha taste that it ended up in the trash along with our cups of milk. There was a big placard at the entry featuring a special offer of a free waffle with purchases at a certain level. Our order qualified, but the employee just pointed to an empty case and said "not available." Perhaps scoot the sign out of the entryway if you can't honor the offer.
Payment info on the touch screen included a notation of "cashback" price. I attempted to ask the employee if this was a cash DISCOUNT price, noting we were happy to pay cash. Unfortunately, the employee spoke little English and seemed to be working alone. He could only point to the order pad and tell me to "use a card." Once paid, the price was $2.06 higher than what was shown on the screen, so "cashback" was probably meant to be a discount for paying cash. When we got the actual electronic text receipt, the $2.06 was noted as a "loyalty credit."
There was no point asking the employee to explain, but I did reach out to the owner directly to ask for clarification and to give private feedback about our drinks and overall experience. This is a fairly new place and I realize it takes time to work out the kinks. It's been a week and no response, even after following up one more time to ensure my message was received.
Interestingly, I see that some descriptions online have recently changed. I politely noted in my message that the basic milk tea drinks included "boba" in the title AND showed boba in the accompanying photos - even though the drinks did NOT come with boba and we were charged extra for this. They've removed "boba" from the drink titles and photos on their own site and updated the descriptions on food delivery platforms with this note: "The picture is for reference only. The actual product does not come with boba. If you'd like boba, please add them separately." So the owner thought my comment was valid, but chose not to acknowledge the private direct message I sent. It should also be noted that this business actively solicits google reviews and social media posts in exchange for free drinks. Do yourself a favor and drive down Broad Street a bit to Yogi Tea (in Lotte Market) or to Ben Wong's. read more
