As this restaurant was conveniently located in the hotel during out Honeymoon we decided to get dinner here on a lazy night. We started with spring rolls which was tasty and had the unique flavor that I love in Chinese foods. We ordered the seafood birds nest and some sushi for our entrée. They were both tasty but nothing too special. The customer service here is excellent however. I wish I remembered our server's name, but she was very polite and respectful taking our orders and made sure we were enjoying the food. For a night in the hotel, I would recommend but don't except something too special, it is what you would expect at a hotel Asian restaurant. read more

Visited this place while in town for a conference. I was seated in a private room which I thought was very nice setting wise. It offered privacy. I like the ambience of this place. We had a bubbly, well spirited waitress who greeted us with a smile and was very helpful and pleasant the entire time. Her name was Tashekia. If I ever returned, I would definitely ask to be seated in her section. My only complaint was that my food came out cold. However, the waitress and manager rectified the situation quickly. Simply the worst food experience. Ever. We ordered the Zen Experience ($69 per person). It was explained that it family style, prix fixe menu for at least 2 people. So as a table of 4 - we ordered as 2 sets. However, all 4 people have to agree on the menu items. Seems very odd as we were two different couples. So we negotiate - as we had very different tastes. Apps arrive and it was 3 pieces. How can you share 3 pieces between 4 people. The server brings over the manager - we voice concerns. They bring us another round of food. The manager was very nice and understood our concerns. Our main course came and they were not good. Three of the four were supposed to be spicy. None were. Most of it was over sauced, gelatinous food. We left 1/2 the food behind. For a $148 meal for two - we hoped for a great dining experience - that is not what we had. There are so many good sushi places in town and this isn't one of them. The rolls are bland, the fish doesn't look very fresh and it is expensive! We also had the dumpling app which was overpowered by the peanut sauce accompanying it. I had a mixed drink which cost $9 and was filled to the brim with ice. I think I managed to get 5 sips out of the thing. They do have a "Zen Experience" which is a fixed price ($46pp) that allows you to sample multiple items from the menu. Maybe this would be a better option. If we had the time and willingness to stuff ourselves we would have probably have tried this option. The service was decent and the restaurant itself looks chic and hip. We have eaten here before while killing time waiting for the line to get into the Margarita Ball to die down. I was kind of surprised to see the place still open. On a Saturday night at 7pm there were plenty of open tables, which is not a good sign. Maybe if we get out this way next year there will be a new, improved restaurant in Zen's place. One bonus- $10 valet is validated! read more

This restaurant is located in the omni resort of Orlando. It's labelled as a Chinese restaurant but they also have a sushi bar. The place was very quiet on a Monday evening. The decor is very elegant. They have regular tables as well as some booths. The food was surprisingly well done. I found the Chinese food menu was very standard fare and couldn't justify the price point if I could get a more authentic taste in Chinatown setting than in a resort that caters to the typical Caucasian/golfer crowd. So I decided to try their Japanese menu instead. I was impressed with the freshness and the presentation with their sashimi and sushi. They are definitely more creative with their combination of ingredients and sauces. The Hamachi toritori with jalapeño pepper was an interesting combination. The zen sushi (i can't remember what's in there now) was also very good. I had a craving for chocolate so I had the chocolate cake with chocolate ice cream the cake was really chocolaty and moist. I actually like the sauce more than the cake. Ufortunately cannot finish this cake Had a glass with dinner Joel golt savignon blanc (California 2014) smells flowery, a bit sour at first then kinda like water but went down v easy. Fruity went up the nose really enhance the spice of the jalapeño. The service is also great here. I do like this place. My boyfriend and I visited Zen during our stay in Omni hotel and resort. We had to write down our names and wait about 25 minutes which wasn't a big deal because we grabbed a couple of beers around the hotel. Upon sitting down we were greeted immediately and advised that there was a 25 minute wait for any sushi ordered. We started off ordering a bottle of Sake and decided we could share a rainbow roll while deciding what our main course meal would be. Luckily, our rainbow roll arrived before the 25 minutes and was made to perfection. Absolutely no complaints. For my main course meal I had orange sesame beef and for a couple dollars you can upgrade from white rice to fried rice, which we both decided to do. Our food arrived promptly, had nice presentation and tasted delicious. I don't see what anyone can find wrong with this place besides the fact that it can be a little pricey (although it should be expected due to its location and convenience for hotel guest). I would probably give Zen 2.5 if I could. It's definitely "ok" and will appeal to those who want something vaguely ethnic but are intimidated by anything more complex than the Empress Plate at Wongs Wok.. They have a regular menu which is mostly Chinese classics like Kung Pao Chicken and Lo Mein Noodles (plain = $18!!! Are you shitting me?). There are a very few creative options like Asian Grouper but for the most part it's the same dishes you can get at home from #1 Chinese Takeout or whatever. Sure, the presentation is nicer but can you really get upscale on Sweet and Sour Chicken? There is also a rather limited sushi menu with maybe 10-15 rolls and some sashimi. Though I would have liked more choice I would rather a place focus on doing a few things right. I had a shrimp tempura roll which was nicely crunchy and definitely tasty, and a smoked salmon roll that also was pretty good. Both were "good" but a $12+ for one roll, I expect a little more. The dining room is nicely decorated with hints of Asian flair, but not too much. Our server was good too - very attentive. My main gripe with Zen is the price. Yes, I get that this is a resort and I'm paying a premium because the only restaurants nearby are Cracker Barrel and Wendy's. Still - $18 for plain Lo Mein noodles? Hostess looked down at the reservation, pointed to it on her screen then looked up at us and said " kitchen is closed sorry." "I said we had the ability to book 10pm reservations" Her reply, "idk why it allows people to do that sorry." Her tone was not apologetic. Mind you they had my contact info and could have called or txt us informing us of this issue. I had an extreme sushi orgy with plates of beautifully arranged sushi that did not stop coming! We were treated to six varieties from there phenomenal "Sushi Menu" that is placed on your table along with your chopsticks on a polished stone. The ambiance, decor, service team and total aura of Zen's from the moment you walk in tells you this will be an extraordinary encounter! For the first time I'm going to admit, I will not be doing justice to this restaurant in just words alone! The only way to fully experience this exotic Nirvana, is to make a reservation and go there now! My top favorites started with the "Zen Experience Roll" with lovely lobster salad, tuna tataki, teriyaki, wasabi blue cheese aioli and a spicy mayo! The "Surf and Turf Roll" was an elevated version with Steak Tataki, lobster salad, cucumber and avocado with an amazing Yuzu aioli! The "Tiger Roll" with spicy salmon , cream cheese, asparagus, spicy mayo, unagi sauce and masago was made exceptional with the torched salmon! The "Championsgate Roll" named after the upscale area we were in was exceptional with seared escolar, tamago, avocado, torched escolar, wasabi, ponzu, spicy mayo and teriyaki! I was surprised and delighted by the sweet taste of the "Red Dragon Roll" with shrimp tempura, cream cheese, spicy tuna, red tobiko and unagi sauce! Ambiance is good. Clean nice looking place. They offer sushi and Chinese. Service is terrible and slow, which is actually authentic Chinese restaurant service with exception to it being slow. Hot and soup is bland. Corn chicken cream soup is like a egg drop soup with sweet corn and itty bitty bites of chicken. Jasmine hot tea is good Chinese spare ribs were decent a bit on the salty side meat fell off the bone which was good and it's saucy. Calamari seem basic didn't have a crunch didn't taste too much flavor or the salt and pepper taste. It was like calamari in normal sweet and sour shrimp batter you get from the local Chinese takeout place not what I'm use to. I ordered the general chicken to be safe and it was your typically general chicken comparable to Panda Express or the mall. Didn't disappoint but the price. Wife ordered the lobster and ginger scallion which actually came out pretty good. Overall the price is the downfall but your paying for convenience. You can get some authentic Chinese food but your gonna take a 30 minute hike from the resort. Your paying for the convenience of the resort and stayin local on the resort. Was a little surprised by the cost of this place after having eaten here. Easily spend over $100 for two people. The place looks great upon first glance but it's starting to look worn. The service was great! I got sweet and sour shrimp which tasted quite good. The alarming part was the sauce looked like a bowl of mucous, which might be a little unnerving to some. Totally worth it as it was quite good. The chef's selection for the sushi was a bit disappointing, but being from the west coast maybe I'm just used to being a little more spoiled with the sushi selection. I had a terrible experience at this restaurant. They simply don't know how to serve people in a Covid-19 world (the restaurant was clean and social distancing was observed). The prices are very stout even for a resort. The biggest issue however is that the service was an abomination in the sight of God and a stench in his nostrils. I've haven't had service that was much worse than what we experienced. The notion of timing food delivery is an absolute mystery to Zen and far from anything being zen-like during the meal it was pure chaos. This restaurant is located inside the Omni hotel in Champions Gate. Beautiful restaurant, and the kind of place where you should dress up a bit. The server we had was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. I had the Szechwan duck, Hunan Dumplings, Red Dragon Roll and the dark chocolate spring roll for dessert. The Hunan dumplings were served in a delicious peanut sauce and were huge. The Red Dragon sushi roll was fresh, cut small enough to eat each piece with one bite and tasty. The Szechwan duck came 2 ways on the plate one the classic crispy style and the other way was shredded and cooked with Szechwan sauce. Both were good but I liked the original way best . It also came with pickled mushrooms, and the traditional scallions and cucumber. It also came with some baby bok choy and 4 bao buns. My dessert was delicious as well and was set on a spoonful of rice pudding. Overall I enjoyed every bite of everything and would recommend this fine dining Asian cuisine to anyone. read more

5-star experience from start to finish. Ambiance: warm, dark colors create an incredibly beautiful and modern Asian-Fusion space. Cozy, but still upscale. Service: one word: impressive. From the moment we walked in, we were immediately greeted by smiling faces who brought us to our table. We were then blessed to get Wally, who was honestly the most attentive, funny and efficient waiter I've ever had -- and we eat out a lot. Wally was quick to make great recommendations of the menu, including the best sushi rolls for our tastes and the perfect sake to warm us up. He continuously checked on us and was just generally fabulous. Total asset to the team. Food: we ordered three rolls -- a tornado roll with three types of raw fish, a zen experience roll with lobster, salmon, and blue cheese aioli and a tuna roll topped with tuna (because you can never have too much tuna). All three were incredibly fresh and delicious...so much so that we savored every bite over a 20-minute span rather than scarfing down the rolls in our typical five minute fashion. We also got a side of veggie fried rice which was of huge value. For $7, the "side" portion is large, yummy and filling. Just when we thought the experience couldn't get any better, Wally surprised us with two chocolate-covered fortune cookies. We won't hold Zen accountable for the actual fortunes inside since they were sooo weird but the cookies themselves were delish. Amazing. I'm slightly embarrassed to admit how many times I ate at Zen during my 9-day stay at the Omni ChampionsGate for a conference, so let me just say that I ate there more nights than I didn't. The ambiance here is great, the tables are comfortable (although they keep the restaurant quite chilly) and the staff is very attentive. Each time we ate here, we came in pretty famished and jumped right into the starters - the dumplings are great, the soups were well received by my dining companions, the short ribs were out of this world and the ginger-honey salad is so delightful (I had it each time I ate here). We didn't have a bad main the entire visit but the highlights were the stir-fried beef with ginger and onion (I know saying melt-in-your-mouth is overrated, but it really did melt in your mouth!), the sweet and sour ginger shrimp (the shrimp were huge), the szechwan duck and the cashew salmon. We also enjoyed the sea bass but found it surprisingly rich for fish. Other people I dined with loved the basil chicken (sorry, basil just isn't my thing) and the kung-pao chicken (I also pass on the spicy food). I never had sushi here but those I ate with who did said it was normal but they would have rather opted for the warm dishes. Overall, great experiences here and a solid dining choice. read more

Zen would get four stars easily if not for the astronomical prices of every menu selection. Yes, the entrees tasted fine, but if you placed my tofu and veggie dish in front of my face right next to the same item ordered from a Chinese take-out restaurant, I could not tell them apart. The reason Zen can get away with such sky-high prices is that it is one of the few overpriced restaurants inside the isolated Omni resort in Orlando. Basically, if you want to eat during their stay, guests can either pay through the nose inside the resort's borders or walk almost a mile to Subway in a dodgy shopping center. I'll begin this portion of the review with the positives. Zen's atmosphere is romantic with dim lighting and gorgeous Asian-inspired decor. Even the chop sticks were fancy and came with a little chopstick-rest for when they weren't in use. The waitress was friendly, and so was the girl who bussed our table. The cocktail I ordered, called The Buddha or something with "Buddha" in the title, featured a sensational combination of complimentary flavors including lychee fruit, and was not overly sweet as many mixed drinks tend to be at restaurants. Also, the California roll tasted fresh and the portion was almost reasonable for the price. The fortune cookies presented after our meal were dipped in chocolate and delicious. Now the bad. As we discovered the second day of our stay at Omni, slow service was the norm (maybe they just really want their guests to relax?), but we did not realize this fact while dining at Zen. Heck, the place IS called Zen, which I guess could be viewed as a foreshadow for their lack of attentiveness. Personally, I do not like waiting ten minutes plus for a cocktail and another 20 plus minutes for my dinner. But maybe that is just a symptom of belonging to the Millennial generation. As I mentioned at the start of this review, the entrees tasted just like Chinese delivery meals but were about 3 times more expensive. I ordered the tofu with mixed veggies and asked for brown rice for which they charged an additional dollar. Seriously? I have to pay more for brown rice, the less-processed food in its natural state that probably costs the equivalent to its less-healthy counterpart? Those are my list of grievances off the top of my head. Consider yourself warned- the food is okay, but you will probably drain a good portion of your bank account at Zen. read more

Ate at Zen during my stay at the Omni - I only had items from the sushi menu. I started with edamame and miso soup - both were just average, nothing spectacular. The edamame weren't the best quality and the miso soup was somewhat bland. I had 2 pieces of scallop nigiri - they tasted good, but I thought they were a little on the small side with way too much rice. I also had the spicy tuna, Hawaiian and the Zen roll. I liked all 3 rolls - they were just all overpriced. Spicy tuna roll was $10, zen roll was $15 and Hawaiian was $13 Service was outstanding - very attentive and friendly waitress. The gentleman to my name and number and we where set. We show up at the restaurant and the hostess says we are not listed on her tablet. I explained I call the restaurant directly last night and made a dinner reservation for 2 for my husband's birthday. She suggested that if we wait she could seat us on the couches (their waiting area to serve us there. That was not acceptable when paying those prices for a nice dinner. We made reservations for Sunday 1-19-19...Zen website showed they were open. Open Table took my reservation and confirmed via email. We waited at the hotel until 6pm for Zen to open and nobody came to greet us. We were told they were closed. The following Sunday I made reservations and called the Hotel Omni and spoke with Tim. Tim said they were open. I asked if he could check with Zen, and he told me the food and beverage manager would return a message if I left one. I left a message, and nobody returned my call. We took a chance and again, Zen was found to be closed. I spoke to Kyle at the front desk to let him know. Not a good reflection for the Omni hotel. read more

My Kung Pao chicken arrived with no peanuts, which is kind of the defining ingredient. (They say that's how they make it--minus peanuts.
