Zen has been a staple for my family for years, it is always a great food experience !

I came in the other day with friends. I used to go to your old location on Rowan for a long time and loved it...nice atmosphere and very spacious looking, nice bar area too. We were seated promptly and our drink order taken by Erica...she was very sweet...serving Coke products and a plus that they serve still Water in glass bottles, from Italy..happy about that...ladies placed their appetizer orders and I ordered Wonton Soup and I figured maybe it was taking a while to get it ready, did not say anything since I really did not want it delivered with my meal..our Zen Rolls came and that was really the highlight of the visit..I remember them from the other location and told everyone about them..we got them and they were served with a Mustard Sauce on the side..they were not hot and crispy as I remember, they were lukewarm and soggy, so disappointing...I had ordered Mongolian Beef and it has in it and I asked that they leave it out, they said no problem would I like Bean Sprouts instead and I said yes...then she came back out and said it was a 2.00 upcharge, makes no sense and declined since there is no substance to them and I would get extra Rice instead..did not get extra Rice when meal came..Mongolian Beef was good... I enjoyed my lunch here. Place has a very cool vibe and is actually quite large. Had the dumplings as an app and 2 sushi rolls. Each entree was very good. Sat at the bar and experienced very friendly service. Lunch was $52 before tip which is about right for sushi. read more

The food was great. Our table ordered Butter Chicken with the Naan, Pad Thai, Bulgolgi (sp?) Fried Rice and Chicken Fried Rice. For starters we ordered pot stickers and Korean flatbread. Everything was very tasty and would order any of them again. Drinks were also on point. Mixed very well and met expectations. Service was perfect. Our server Dora was friendly, made helpful recommendations and was attentive throughout our meal. Bartender JP also very friendly and good at his craft. Everything from service to drinks to food was fabulous! We had martinis and old fashions to start with cauliflower and edamame appetizers. The cauliflower was the best I have ever eaten. We had the vegetable lo mein, woked broccoli and the Indian butter chicken with naan. Everything was so flavorful, beautifully plated and a lot of food. I don't often give 5* for everything for a restaurant, but this is a VERY special place. Zen has paid a huge price to grow from a storefront in NPR to their current location. Now they are a DESTINATION for lunch and dinner, and they've EARNED IT! "Asian Fusion" doesn't even fully describe what goes on in ZEN. Just a terrible burger for any price. French fries were excellent with just the right amount of crispiness and seasoning. * Pad Thai- mild pad Thai lacked spice, but good enough for the lady (not for me). * Butter chicken- chicken was juicy and sauce well seasoned, but was served at room temperature. * Gluten free Lo mein with shrimp - the Lady likes, but I thought shrimp was small and underwhelming Service/ bar service - 3.5 stars * You have to take charge of what you want here and ask for service when needed. Our experience is that service is rarely offered, but executed well enough when requested. We recommend sitting at the bar. * Staff (regardless of the diner to wait staff ratio) seems overwhelmed when restaurant is any more than 20% capacity. * Daily specials should be advertised at the restaurant and not just on Facebook. Servers and bar staff do not push or even mention drink specials. * Timing of food service from order to service is on point. * Processes around shift changes needs to be reviewed. A customer can get lost during this time and we've walked out to eat elsewhere at least once because of this. Ambiance - 3 stars * We love coming here for a couple of drinks and enjoy the window view of downtown. Decor is hip and sophisticated. * Background music can be hit or miss, ranging from 80's classics to top 40. Volume levels seem to be ok. * The theme of the restaurant should carry over to the music. Your website mentions you are "The only truly Pan Asian Restaurant and Bar in the Tampa Bay Area". I expect the music to reflect that as well to enhance the experience. P. S. I have visited Zen with my husband nearly 20 times since it opened in New Port Richey. In general, the food is good. Some highlights: - Grandpa's Potstickers - Momo - Chinese Fried Rice - Zen Rolls - Pad Thai - Butter Chicken - Mango Mojito And then there's the sushi... While the sushi rolls are mostly tasty, and there are many raw fish options, many times the seaweed wrap was chewy. I ended up messaging the restaurant on Facebook and was told my note would be communicated to the sushi chef, but nothing has changed. I was also told by one bartender regarding the size: "You can't tell her anything." My biggest issue with the sushi overall is the size. I have ordered nearly every roll, and overall the diameter is too big. I'm a lady and it's just too big to eat in a lady-like manner. I don't enjoy having to cover my mouth with my napkin while I chew what I can (and then have to spit out the seaweed). For $14-$22 each, it's largely (ha) inedible. The hamachi roll is smaller in diameter (still a little too big), but the pieces are inconsistently thick, meaning that one piece might be an inch wide and the piece next to it is an inch and a half wide. See pic. Stay away from the crudo. No need to put an oily fish in oil. It was also VERY salty. Before the restaurant opened, a sample menu was posted online. I had emailed the store when I saw they were going to use Krab instead of real crab in the crab rangoon, and was thanked for my feedback. I see that the ingredients now say Krab and blue crab. For the price, it should be only real crab. I really do like the decor and ambiance (when the music isn't top 40), and the bar service is good except during shift changes. I know not to go between 3pm and 4pm now. I was beyond excited to have a lunch option that isn't bar food (with sushi being the draw as there are no other sushi restaurants open for lunch in downtown NPR), but I just can't eat the sushi rolls in an elegant manner. I usually sit at the bar, so each time I had an issue, I brought up my concerns to three different bartenders several times (more than once per bartender). No manager or chef or sushi chef ever bothered to check on me. In fact, as many times as I've been there, I've never seen anyone who looks to be a manager. The wait staff and bartenders are friendly and the food usually comes out quickly and is well presented. I would like to go back, but I won't take a chance on a $22 sushi roll that I can't eat. read more

Incredible food and presentation. Very zen atmosphere. Servers are very friendly and helpful. Must get a Zen Palmer iced tea. It's a mix of iced jasmine tea and I think unsweetened tea. The coconut rice soup was hearty and delicious especially if you squeeze some lime in it. Love the Zen rolls. The tangy mustard sauce hits so good! Not the old Zen as many locals will remember. It has a number of bugs IT MUST work out. Menu is a little different, but interesting. Kitchen extremely slow the 2nd week it was open. Food was just ok as like I said, kitchen was slow & food a little on the cool side. Definitely will give it another try in a month or two hoping to bring a new experience to New Port Richey, thus only a 3 at this time. Just wasn't thrilled with it our visit. Food was excellent. We scarfed almost everything before I could snap photos. Everything we ate my husband would say "that is the BEST I've ever had!" We got the Kim chi Mandu, miso mushroom soup, dumpling soup, house salad, black garlic hummus, pad Thai and the tequila sunrise roll. We tried the ube tart for dessert and so glad we did! We were a little disappointed. Went for New Year's Eve dinner, which could possibly be the reason for the noise level. When dining at an Asian restaurant, I always start with a Mai Tai. This was the worse Mai Tai I ever had, it was too sweet and tasted like fruit punch. I was hoping that wouldn't be a sign of things to come. For staters my wife ordered the Grandpa's Potstickers and requested a different dipping sauce as she preferred not to have the garlic sauce. Our server gave other options and my wife decided on a mango sauce, which she then found that it also had garlic. There were no other options, however, the dumplings were good. I started with the Tuna Carpaccio which was very good, although lemon, olive oil was abundant and overwhelmed the flavor of the tuna. I then had the Kim Chi Mandu dumplings which came out the same time as my Tuna. They had good flavor but lacked in Kim Chi flavor which they were named for. As entrees my wife had the Sesame Chicken which was not prepared in the traditional Chinese style, however the presentation was good but my wife couldn't eat it as the Sesame Sauce was too salty. My entree was the Szechuan Filet Stir Fry. I felt the seasoning was a little to salty but tolerable for myself. Our server had asked if I'd like it prepared mild, medium or hot. I chose hot, but should have requested it to be extra spicy as the "hot" level was more mild. The flavor was good. Service was good. All in, it was an average experience and we're doubtful to return. read more

First time dining at Zen and must say we were very disappointed. We both had the Thai Curry with Chicken and it was much too salty, chicken overcooked and there was no hint of curry. Beautiful space, friendly service and awesome food! I really loved the smaller space when this was Zen Forest, however the new menu options, especially sushi, are a delight. My husband and I split the Triton roll, the crab rangoon (nice to see some familiar items) and tuna tartare. This is our new favorite sushi spot. One item I was disappointed to not see on the menu was the Banh Mi. Aside from that we will be back for dinner soon! read more

The dishes are good WHEN they finally get to your table. The bartenders make a good drink but waiting for service is ridiculous! Four people at the bar, two bartenders and 10 minutes to just get acknowledged! (they're too busy keeping their backs to the patrons) Truly a shame because the place looks fabulous and has a wonderful vibe. Management really needs to hire some experienced help. Started off strong...had a peach sakitini and a Japanese old fashioned. Apps of old school Zen rolls and pot stickers. Great! Entrees...butter chicken with added bread basket and chicken lo mein. Now, chicken lo mein at old place was craveable and addictive...new place...not so much. On top of which it was definitely not served fresh...it was room temperature. Hubs had butter chicken and he was really happy with it. My thoughts...it was served in a cast iron vessel and it was not steaming hot. Not what I'd expect. Server sort of unavailable as we were ready for a second round of drinks as we were waiting in our main course. Sangria was too dry and definitely needed the fruit served as a garnish to be infused. Hubs had a beer. Again service kinda disappointed (although the table next to us seemed to have a very attentive server). Atmosphere definitely grew up compared to old location and Chef came around to say hello. Maybe just maybe an off night but at 5:30pm on black Friday was kinda hoping for a super wow factor. read more
