The deep tissue massage was amazing! Only $25 for an hour, which is a steal compared to our hotel, which was charging 8x as much. We saw this place from the main street storefront and one of the workers walked us a couple of blocks to an upstairs place for the actual massage for the two of us. Yes, this place is not fancy but the massage itself was excellent. My masseuse found all my tender spots on the first try and afterwards I felt the toxins loose in my body which made me tired (but it felt so good!). I would definitely recommend this place for a quality massage. No bells and whistles but the substance is definitely there. I was just walking around the strip and I happened to walk past this massage parlor. It's definitely a hole in the wall with 3 rooms. In PV, these are not generally available with an indoor AC, which is the lack of one star. At first I avoided this place because there were two large men outside waiting for work and I'm not exactly comfortable with a full body from a man. PV is also very interesting in the sense that you could be walking around and there are tons of massage places but are not open. They are typically massage by appointment only so it's a bit difficult finding a walk-in massage business. I won't lie. I walked around for 15-20 minutes before I decided to go back to Zen. Man was I happy I did! I let the men outside know I wanted a female masseuse and they called her up and she was there within 5 minutes. Ask for Dalia! Great service! I had a mix between relaxation and deep tissue massage and it was well worth every penny spent. I spent a total of $30 USD and no regrets! When you're in PV, make sure and call to make an appointment to any of the massage places you're interested in, however it was difficult getting a person on three different parlors, but be persistent haha! You could wing it like I did and you could find a hidden gem too, so be adventurous in a place with city dwellers practice many skillsets. read more

The masseur convinced me to take the service with him, telling me that his massage was with different techniques which is what I was mainly looking for. As soon as the massage started I realized that he did not have enough knowledge and techniques. The oil he used, was very thick and worst of all super cold, every time he applied it , it was an unpleasant sensation. The cost of the massage was 500 $ for 60 min. at first but ended up paying 1500$ pesos for the special massage that he offered me. it was my mistake because i didn't ask the cost before it started. My guy, Eduardo, had some great massage techniques but there was something that seemed off. I never had an "international" massage, so I went along with it... but I think during that one hour massage, the therapist, as my partner said, probably got some perks of his own. He kept telling me how in school they told him to be careful with woman and covered them well, he then proceed to execute some very odd moves, I could tell he is not a professional masseuse, his face got way to close to my body and I could feel a weird vibe, I was never relax. UPDATE- i went and told the owner about my experience. I was really surprised that he explained to me that my masseuse was sick that day and that's why he was sweating all over me. Gross. I should have spoken up during the massage. I regret it, but i was just in shock. Either way, it's very bad business to allow your workers to come to work sick and not be concerned about customer satisfaction. My husband and I both got massages. I feel really bad because i really really disliked mine. I asked for someone strong because I'm used to Asian style massages and also booked the deep tissue massages. I wasn't expecting anything therapeutic or for them to be knowledgeable in pressure points or lymphatic drainage but i was hoping to have my knots found and at least acknowledged. My guy, i think his name was Juan Can. He was nice and respectful young man. As soon as he started working i thought "oh no. This is going to be one of those rub oil on your body back and forth- type of massages"...and that's what it was. Except i got a little more. My masseuse was dripping sweat. The first time it happened, i thought "oh gross. I'm trying to detox and he's dripping his toxins on my back". But i tried to not be picky because it's cheap and u get what u pay for. But it happened so. Many. Times. I didn't know how to bring it up without embarrassing the sheepish young guy and being rude. I just couldn't believe that he never acknowledged that i might be feeling his sweat dropping on me and that it might not be enjoyable. Basically, the whole 60 minutes i was really hoping for improvement. As far as technique, I asked him twice for "más fuerza" and it got slightly better for a brief moment than back to hands moving back and forth. He didn't know how to use his thumbs or feel for knots. Anyways. Enough abt mine. My husband's was ok. He said definitely wasn't deep tissue but it was relaxing. I think i just happened to get the guy who was untrained. I hate to be the one break it to the Yelp world, but maybe this place COULD be good. Its very affordable. It's no frills. Clean enough (though i didn't like that the pillow they put my head on when i turned on my back. No pillowcase or towel). But perhaps if you are looking for any kind of therapeutic massage or deep tissue you should ONLY go here if you know a specific masseuse that does very well. So happy with my experience! My mother and I stopped by while we were staying close by. I have had many massages (and so has my mum) and this was hands down the best experience I've ever received. Very kind and professional staff and we had no issue getting a massage without an appointment on a Sunday evening. I am extremely pleased and hope to return every time I'm back in Puerto Vallarta. Zen massage doesn't look like much, but they do a great job! It's a small upstairs massage area, nothing fancy, very basic. The massages, however, were fantastic. My husband and I got 30 minute back massages which left us feeling very relaxed and got rid of some built up stress in our muscles. One of my favorite things to do while on vacation is to get a massage (fits well into the whole rest and relaxation mode) and so I decided to give Zen a chance since the reviews, while not many on Yelp, were still quite positive. My experience can be summed up by 2 words: ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! Let me explain why: Initially, my girlfriend and I decided to go for 60 min (deep tissue), and we also told ourselves not to have any expectations. So you know that it is terrible when you leave your expectations in the basement and it still ends up being horrible. Essentially, we paid for them to slather oil and lotion on our backs...several pumps of some lotion/oil concoction, spread it around, then repeat. After about 5 min in, we requested that our 60 be reduced to 30 minutes, and then got the hell out of dodge. To add insult to injury, they only did 24 min in total but I'd say that after about 5 min of this, I felt sufficiently slathered that I was (ironically) grateful they cut it short. If you are into getting moisterized, then this is the place for you; if you are looking for an actual massage, look elsewhere! read more

My husband and I just returned from massages at the Zen Massage location further up on Basilio Badillo (#342). The massages themselves were okay, but we both only received 45-50 minutes instead of the full hour promised. When we pointed this out to them, they first argued and then apologized, but still had us pay for the full time we did not receive. This appears to be a bad habit of massage places that are unprofessional and just there to make a quick buck. A good massage includes the full time paid for -- it does not take much to give the customer this. read more
