    Dirty fleck outside cup

My partner and I have been coming to Zen's for years and normally we really love it. Today we went after a movie and got maybe 10 minutes into our meal when I realized our glasses were dirty. The inside and outside of both had multiple dark hard flecks that couldn't even be removed when rubbing them, they were caked on. It really soured our appetites (me moreso as I have OCD and this kind of thing grosses me out more than most), so we asked for the bill. The waitress, who I know didn't wash the dishes, was still very nonchalant about the situation and asked if we wanted different waters when we asked for the bill. I understand not everything can run smoothly all the time but we both would have appreciated if this was taken more seriously, as dirty dishes being used to serve food and drink in a restaurant is pretty unacceptable :(

Worst experience ever. We didn't get water served till we got our food and had to chase the waitress. * Tempura was soggy. * Menus were sticky, wet, and looked chewed. Tables were FILTHY. * Even if they gave me free food I would NOT go back.

This is still my favorite sushi place in Bellingham. The quality for the price is unbeatable and I only go here. However, unfortunately this is the presentation of my food that I have been getting. My california rolls just seem like they're thrown together so carelessly that they fall apart. Either Zen hired someone who doesn't care, or they need to address the issues of one of their employees that has given up on take out orders. I still love ya guys and will keep eating here... But I can't show off my food when it looks trashy.

We ate lunch after 1pm at Zen Sushi Bar. We hadn't been there since before Covid hit. The restaurant was filling up nicely. It's tastefully decorated with an enormous feminine Buddha center stage in the eating area. Here's a little fact, that Buddha is so enormous that it was dropped in by a crane before the roof went on the building. The conveyor belt wraps around her and the booths are in hands reach of sushi floating right past you. The Buddha sits on a concrete platform that needs a dusting. There is a separate bar room, an outside patio with hanging lights and fire feature to warm up to. The Sushi photographs well. It looks far better than it tastes. The slices are on the thin side, mostly tasted like rice and sauces, a cucumber here and there and some small tempura shrimp. The cake rubber on top and mushy in the center. Our bill came to $48 after tip. That's not a bad bill for sushi, but it lacks in portion size and amount. I have eaten at Zen's 4 other times and I would've given it the same exact review for those times. Haggen's has better Sushi and it's made fresh daily.

(DON'T ORDER ANY ROLLS, LOAD UP ON MEAT TO GET TOUR MONEYS WORTH INSTEAD!) dessert was so fire, i think i deadass ate three big bowls of ice cream with coconut jelly and whatever that brown powder was. i came here right after opening at around 5:30 and there wasn't a line-up or too many people in the restaurant.

Came here with my family for lunch on a Saturday around noon and ate from both menu A and B. Lunch AYCE is served 4 days a week from Friday to Monday. VIBE: The vibe of the dining area was spacious, modern, and relaxed. It's way less hectic and more spacious than the old location. Dining area decor was clean and minimal. They had generic asian spa background music on repeat with a TV playing a video of water flowing from a bamboo garden on a loop which got a little annoying. They need different types of relaxing songs instead of the same ol' generic background spa song on repeat. Washrooms were noticeably clean and had ample room to move around. When i arrived around 11:45am, the place was only about 50% full with all the booth seats already taken. It ramped up an hour later with families taking over almost every table. Parking was easy to find around noon time but the parking lot became very busy later so its a good idea to come earlier if possible. Food arrived at a fair decent amount of time. We weren't left hanging for a long time after ordering. (It didn't come super fast either.) In the old location, ordering the second time was very long. So long, we were just about finished eating but the late food came after (too late). I glad that problem seems to been fixed! The ordering style is that they give you a paper slip with food choices and you fill in the quantity with paper to give your server. If you select any amount of food from the higher priced A menu ($21.95 per person) instead of only B menu ($18.95 per person), each person at your table is charged the higher priced tier. I like how they mostly honored the number of pieces we asked for on the paper slip. When we asked for 12 pieces of chicken karaage, they really did give 12 pieces. I like that they give your table a tea kettle so you can pour yourself more tea when needed. FOOD: Food quality was a hit and miss, but mostly decent. I'll go over the dishes i ate. DECENT/OK... : Sushi such as california roll, bc roll, and kani cream cheese roll. A bit too much rice on all the sushi. The cream cheese roll was a weird combo and i could taste mostly just cream cheese but it was my favorite of the bunch. California roll was decent. Basically all the sushi i tried was decent. Gyozas tasted not bad at all. Cooked perfectly and decent filling. Kanikana tempura and vegetable tempura. Some of the tempura were cold in the middle as it wasn't cooked properly. Others were cooked fine. Decent tasting. The fish tempura was my favorite. Comes with lightly flavored tempura sauce which helps a lot. Age manju. It was mostly just sweet bread with a very light drizzle of condensed milk. I thought it was OK. Spring rolls were decent. A big improvement over the previous location. Just enough filling and flavors. GOOD! : The dessert section was expanded to more options now. I like the dessert section because it was self serve. You can help yourself to french fries, miso soup, mango pudding, and vanilla ice cream. They had ice cream toppings like raisins and popping boba. Other self serve dessert options were cubed grass jelly and aloe vera jelly, also not bad. Mango pudding, also self serve, was decent as well but it wasn't sweet enough. Beef short rib was my table's favorite dish. Every piece was cooked well with very little fat on the meat. Plenty of sauce to give it lots of flavor. Agedashi tofu was cooked very well. It was a refreshing palette cleanser from all the greasy and oily foods. It was a soft, warm bite sized cubed fried tofu with a bit of sauce. Seafood motoyaki. Very rich, indulgent dish with lots of flavors. It's saltier than what im used to but i don't mind. Cooked well. Yum. Chicken karaage. I love how it's boneless and every chicken had a good crunch to them. They were all perfectly cooked. This was my favorite dish. Chicken teriyaki. I liked the sauce they put on it and the light breading too. Tasty. NOT SO GOOD :( Beef udon was basically a single small piece of beef on top of udon. The noodles were too tough to chew/not soft enough. The flavors of the udon soup didn't do anything for it. Disappointing! BBQ Spare ribs. Seriously lacked any flavors. Whoever seasoned it didn't put enough dry rub on it. Beef teriyaki. Wayyyy too much fat! It wasn't really cut well so if you picked one one piece, it would be connected to most of the other pieces. I didn't like this one at all. OVERALL: For $21.95 per person, its a decent place for lunch All you can eat. The food was a mixed bag in terms of quality. can't complain too much since the price is fair compared to other buffets around vancouver. 3 Out of 5 stars based on this visit.

Immediate seating, but waited 6 mins before someone brought us a menus and water. We asked to be seated at sushi bar, but for some reason was "not allowed". Hubby ordered a Caterpillar roll and spicy tuna roll. I myself ordered a shrimp tempura roll with spicy tuna on top. It took over 22 mins to get food with only 2 other couples by us. No wait staff other than a single older woman that could not understand English well. Food came finally and it did not look like the usual Ahi tuna used in spicy tuna. It was grey, slimy and had a horrible rotten smell to it. It was like cat food smeared on top of rice. Asked waitress what kind of tuna it was. She had no idea. It took her over 10 mins to return. I just ate off hubbys plate. Finally I got up myself and went to sushi chef. I explained in all my years of sushi that the fish was rotten and he should not serve whatever kind of tuna it was. I asked to have him make me a spicy tuna roll out of Ahi. Red flag #2-12 mins later Older waitress came back with 4 pieces of Ahi on a small plate. I told her I asked for a Spicy tuna roll. Red flag #3-8 mins later, roll came back. Hubby had already left to get our seat at Harry's. Fish was warm, not clean tasting and I knew I would be chancing an all nighter at the toilet . I'm a diabetic and needed to eat to bring up blood sugars. I would highly recommend NOT eating here. Go to Nobu sushi instead around the corner. Sorry no pictures as I was disgusted and in a rush to get out of there.

Tonight I Had my sister pick up our order that I placed over the phone for 3 tonkatsu ramens (2 black garlic). Been our favorite dish there for a long time and always loved it. After she got home with the order we realized that there was absolutely no chasu (pork) in any of our 3 dishes. I called the store, and asked them about it and they offered an 8$ refund or extras for next time we came in. We live 30 minutes away. Not exactly like we could easily come back and get the pork or a re-fire of the dish, but that wasn't even offered to us. In their website, they charge 3.5$ for extra chasu. So they didn't even offer us the amount they charge for the protein. After discussing this I called them back to try and explain the frustration we had with this and was entirely dismissed by their manager. When I told her they charge 3.5$ for additional pork she didn't even know the cost, and then offered to give me 11$ refund, because I had received 55$/65$ of food I ordered. I didn't though. I ordered a pork ramen, and didn't receive the primary part of that order. If I wanted a vegetable option I would have picked that. She insisted that there wasn't any other option. Food is good, but if they make it wrong it's not their problem. Terrible customer service. Don't go here.
