A smidgen below 5 stars. Excellent restaurant, appointed with warm wood decor and ample spacing between tables. Warm receptive and proactive wait staff. Parking right up to the door. We ordered the "all you can eat" special. All items were exceptionally fresh and beautifully plated. Great dipping sauce for lightly battered, crispy veggie tempura. Gyoza with thin wrapping enabling the taste of the filling to be the star. Fried calamari rings that were piping hot and yummy. Sashimi that was just about perfect: my test always is the salmon sashimi, and it exceeded my expectations, with slices that showcased the flavor and a smooth texture. Our only disappointment - and a minor one at that - were the rolls including eel where that flavor was masked by the veggies. Well done, Zen Sushi! On our stop when we return to the area and definitely an experience we will recommend to others. read more

I wasn't expecting much from this strip mall sushi place, but was glad we stopped in. The service was quick and the place was packed for dinner. I tried the udon and would order it again, I just wish the portion size was a bit larger. The cold sake was great and we all enjoyed it. Love this new sushi place. The sushi tastes super fresh and priced are phenomenal. The all you can eat sushi is $30 per person but includes appetizers, noodle dishes, sashimi, and sushi. The drinks on the other hand are VERY strong though, its a but of a struggle to get through even one because they taste like straight liquor. read more

The service was very nice here, to explain to me the menu and how they do all you can eat, plus very up on getting the dirty plates , asking if you enjoyed and actually encouraging you to order more from the all you can eat. A more local place to me for all you sushi is so the polar opposite and this place is way cheaper than a mile. I found the portion sizes of sushi and other items on the smaller side, but for all you can eat total pass on it. Shu mai was great, tempura was fried just right and no raw batter taste either. All rolls and single sushi rolls were very good, honestly definitely have try more menu on the next visit, plus very fast service when comes to getting my food. Barely waited and my apps and sushi were at my table. Chopsticks in New Windsor can learn from this place how to handle all you can eat. The only place I like to go for sushi. Delicious and always amazing, the establishment is always clean and inviting. We frequent the location often and Shirley and staff now know us and remember our go to dishes. The tuna pizza is absolutely a must - delicious and now that I shared that secret with my husband I have to share :-) . It is very affordable, always clean and the employees are very nice. I just went here for lunch with friends. I was told this place was relatively new - in the Scotchtown section of Middletown on Rt. 211 in a strip mall. It's AYCE sushi and a flat $29.95 regardless if coming for lunch or dinner. While not unreasonable, I normally don't eat as much during lunch and don't spend that much when eating at that time. The food was decent nothing really wowed me. I've been to many many buffets and AYCE places and this was average - especially considering the pricing. The sushi fish was fresh for the Thursday lunch and the service was reasonably quick (except for getting more sauce which took multiple requests before we got it). The biggest issue I encountered was that at the end of the meal for the 3 of us, we left 5 pcs of sushi roll uneaten. We didn't particularly like the taste of that "specialty" roll and when we asked for the check, the 2 waitresses did make a small issue of this making a comment that we should be finishing everything. It was either to make us feel guilty or to imply there might be an extra charge for not finishing everything. We did mention we didn't like it and that's why it was left and I fully understand that people shouldn't over order / waste food but it wasn't a lot. In the end, they didn't do anything more but kind of left a bad taste with us (pun intended - lol). Of the dozens and dozens of times that we have frequented AYCE restaurants and surely left much more uneaten, this would be the very first time we have experienced an unwelcome attitude. My Son and I first visited Zen in June of this year. We enjoyed the rolls so much that we decided to go back. It didn't disappoint. It was still as good as we remembered. It is a fairly small, comfortable place with about 5 seats at the sushi bar and 4 seats at the bar and a few tables. We both had miso soup, my Son ordered 3 rolls, and I ordered the sashimi deluxe. All of the fish was fresh and delicious. The soup was okay, but I have had better. I wouldn't take away a star just for that though. To drink my Son had sake and I had an exotic drink that tasted like black cherry. Both were good. The waitress was a bit abrupt, but I think she was just trying to be efficient. The sushi chefs didn't interact much with us, but they were friendly and made sure to ask if everything was all right. Next time I am in Middletown, I definitely want to go back. read more

I actually really miss asian 211 all you can eat, but anyway I had a bite of the gyoza and it was crunchy.. why was it crunchy.. that turned me off from the gecko. When I google sushi in my area, Zen Sushi, popped up. After seeing all the great reviews, I decided to give it a try. I was told there's a AYCE menu and a reg menu. I ask if I can start with the reg menu and upgrade to AYCE if need be, they told me no. OK, I took the reg as I always have a small appetite. Sushi was very fresh and tasty; however, the portion of the sushi was on the small size. Service was attentive. Restaurant and the bathroom is very clean which I like. I would of give it a 5 if I could start from the reg menu and go into AYCE if that's a choice they offer. But I will definitely go again. Very happy with the food. read more

My husband and I went with our friends on Saturday night and it was delicious! The sushi was fresh and there were so many options to choose from. You select what you want as a group on one sheet and then the server enters it and brings the food out. We didn't finish one roll so they charged us for it. Everybody needs to check this place out immediately if u haven't done so already. Upon arrival we are approached by a lovely hostess, with all smiles on her face. We take a seat and start to notice the modern style of the restaurant, which is rather new and gives a very homey vibe. I immediately look at my partner and we both feel a good vibe from the place like we are going to have a great time. We begin our order, and the waitress is very nice and accommodating. The salad and the soup arrives and it was perfect. The soup was not salty Like a lot of places, and the salad dressing, which I have never tried before was quite tasty. Next the sushi arrives and oh my God was it spectacular. Every bite was to die for. My partner was already head over heels in love with it where he had to order it again before we left. All the food in general was really really good and for $30 all you can eat let's just say I kind of overdid it. I would definitely come back to this place over and over again.
