    Black Pepper Seitan
    Jacqueline S.

Tasty, affordable vegetarian Chinese food with generous portions and delicious seitan! I ordered here for the first time via Uber eats and it was just what I was hoping for: -large veggie wonton soup - very yummy and pretty filling since they stuff like 10 wontons in here. A great deal for $6.50 -black pepper seitan- this is a hefty portion. It's not spicy but has a nice peppery flavor. The seitan was nice and hearty. It tasted like they pan fried it a bit so it was a bit crispy. Note that this comes with Chinese broccoli - not regular- and a lot of it! Also cheap- $13 So glad I finally found a vegetarian Chinese spot that's on point in terms of flavor and value. I'll be ordering again!

This is my new vege paradise. I will always stop by when visiting Brooklyn. I have never experienced such flavor in a vegan meal.

The chicken nuggets make my mouth water. Along with the sauce I can eat it all without sharing but I'll get back to the food in a few. 1st off I had to use the rest room badly and ran into this restaurant. No one turned up their face and said customers only which sold me. Inside reminded me of a typical chinese store. Nothing lavishing. However everyone was really kind. Besides the chicken nuggets I ordered the shrimp fried rice and chicken and broccoli with white rice. The food was excellent. I have no complaints. If you're vegan or vegetarian do not sleep on this spot. You wont be disappointed. Even if you eat meat give it a try.

I mean everyone was SO NICE TO ME I CANT even. Food was def 3 stars but service and kindness to customers was a 5. The food is good but I've had better vegan Chinese food. I really liked the general tsos chicken but the chicken nuggets were not a win for me. They were a little rough/tough and I wasn't a fan of the sauce at all. On the other hand the deserts are AMAZING!! I love the fact they have soy based icecream and SOY MILKSHAKES. I had the Oreo soy milkshake if your not used to soy you won't like it but I LOVED IT!! I mean I would come back here but not for a little bit as it does bring that oily Chinese food factor surprisingly.. Go indulge I highly recommend if you never had vegetarian Chinese!

This has been our go-to takeout spot for almost two years. Food is always delicious, service is great. This is a very special spot. Last night, my partner ordered carrot cake & chicken nuggets for us but the restaurant was out of carrot cake. They offered to send it out today when they restocked & did! An incredibly generous offer and very appreciated. Thank you, Zen Vegetarian House.

General Tso 's Chicken taste bad, all soggy breading no chicken
    Jennifer C.

Bad... general tsos had little substance, only breading. It was swimming in liquid and soggy. Also, far too sweet.

Supposed to be a spring roll not a charcoal roll. The food was mediocre for my first time going there

I went back for a weekday lunch recently and the food and atmosphere both hold up fabulously, so it makes sense why they've remained a brunch mainstay at both their East Village and Williamsburg locations. I enjoy that they serve their hot moroccan tea in a glass as is traditional, so you can see all the fresh mint leaves in your cup. I had tea like this multiple times a day during my trip to Morocco a few years back so sipping on this here took me back in time. I ordered a short stack of their blueberry pancakes which were very fluffy and delicious. They're not the kind of pancake with crispy edges, which are my preferred kind of pancake but I still found them satisfying. The moroccan eggs, which are two poached eggs in spicy stewed tomatoes and served with zahar pita is a delight. The pita is very fluffy and the zahatar adds such a nice fragrant spice to the bread. They used to serve this with potatoes but now those come at an additional charge but are well worth getting. The Williamsburg location also has pretty good wifi and they let me work on my laptop through my brief stay there. Kitchen was speedy too.

It was a good portion, enough for one to finish. The lentil soup was on the saltier side, and the potatoes with string beans tasted a little fishy. But, altogether, everything was an interesting mix. I felt like I was eating a mix of Chinese- and Indian-inspired food. The mustard greens reminded me of Chinese fare, while the touch of spicy chutney reminded me of Indian cuisine. After the main meal, I tried their fried green tea ice cream. The dessert was beautifully presented, and tasted as I would have expected: a touch of bitterness from the green tea ice cream, covered in batter. While the food was maybe a 4, the ambiance was easily a 5. The artwork was breathtaking! Whoever commissioned the artwork did a great job. At night, they dim the lights and add (fake) candles, so the artwork stands out even more, and the ambiance feels soothing. Service was good. The owner was very accommodating. All in all, Namaste Brooklyn is in a great location in Brooklyn and offers patrons a trip to a different part of the world. Check it out if you're nearby!

It's a beautifully designed space, and we went in the evening so it was dimly lit and had good tunes, contributing to an intimate and cool vibe. The service throughout was good both by our primary server and the rest of the team that was bringing out dishes. For the food, we did not feel that it was a strong start, but the ending was great! The first dish to come out was their cornbread, which we agreed was very light and had a super tender texture, but there was just nothing special about the taste profile to us. The second dish were their prawns. We couldn't put our finger on the off-putting flavor in there, but we agreed that something just wasn't right and almost tasted spoiled. You also had to work a bit to dissect the prawns and remove the heads and skin. To work for it and then not enjoy the taste wasn't a great combo for us, unfortunately. It started turning around with their sweet potatoes, a type I'd never had before that were "baby" and purple on the outside while white inside. They served the potatoes with a gorgeously whipped Greek yogurt that added the exact right amount of tang to balance the sweet potato and the herby topping. The stars of the night were the coconut basmati rice and the lamb shank. My goodness! The rice dish was so complex from a flavor and texture profile and just hit all the right notes for us, and that lamb! Definitely one of the best lamb dishes I've had - Impossibly tender and seasoned to perfection. One other note I'll make regarding drinks is that they did not have a strong wine list. I ended up ordering a red, but later heard our waiter recommend against getting their wine to another table and suggesting their cocktails and mocktails instead. Just something to keep in mind if you're a wine lover!

You realize it's cluttered with a bunch of knickknacks and other games and accessories that. Some of the items inside look like they're either for sale or just meant for display, which is fine, but I feel like it distracts from the main purpose, which is serving food and being a comfortable resting spot. It's no fault of the place, but the vibe is a mix of reggae, African folk music, and incense, and it contrasts sharply with the environment outside. There's an Italian restaurant across the street blasting Frank Sinatra type music, so the clash is noticeable. I feel like maybe the sound could be adjusted or balanced somehow. As part of the promotion, I ordered the vegan lentil soup. It was okay, nothing special but not bad. Then I was served an iced chai latte, and most of the spices sank to the bottom under the ice. After I swirled it, the spices still didn't have much flavor. It wasn't strong or pungent, and you couldn't really taste the spices or feel any of the digestive benefits chai is usually known for. It didn't taste like tea; it was just mildly sweet. I could see myself drinking it with a dessert, but it didn't stand out on its own. The service was friendly. I hope this place the best and want it to succeed but it needs to literally clean up.
