I was super excited for this place at first. YUCK! This is some of the WORST pad thai I've ever had, I'd recommend going across the street and getting pad thai from noodles and company as theirs is much better! Chicken had a weird texture and didn't have much flavor. Noodles overcooked. Veggies were huge chunks. Sushi was a disappointment, the only good one was the peanut avocado. Their sweet potato roll has no sweet potato in it and is just tempura (aka just breading). Cali roll had way too much cucumber and very stiff crab stick. Placed an online order, said it would be ready by 2pm, (placed it at 1:38pm). Got there at 1:50pm, wasn't ready yet. My food wasn't ready until 2:12pm, this took up almost my entire lunch break. Very gross food honestly and i wish i could puke up what I did eat, as the calories were not worth it. Just not good quality food and not fresh tasting. read more

Really enjoyed the food here, the miso was on point and the rolls where smackin. Listen, I am a sushi addict and this place hit the spot. The rolls were dope and the fish and ingredients were super fresh and the chef is talented; the right amount of every ingredient, the fish was perfectly selected. We had miso soup, great flavor with alot of texture, really enjoyed it. The shumi soup is a must try, even if you share it, it's bussin-bussin; I'll be back just for that, just an unforgettable taste. The Sushi chef must have been trained by the dopest of Jedi foodies. The specialties rolls are executed to perfection and the presentation is awesome; really enjoyed the combinations and was just an enjoyable meal made by someone that really takes pride in making great tasting food. They also offer gluten free soy sauce and are very aware of what contains gluten and cross contamination, so even when we modified our roll and the chef still nailed it. Listen, if you are local, or just passing through on the interstate, and love sushi, this is the place to stop in a enjoy it. This was our first time having the sushi at Zen16 and it was great! We ordered four rolls and they were excellent and filled with lots of flavorful ingredients. The sashimi was delicious and the pieces of yellowtail were HUGE. Maybe a little on the pricey side overall but I think the portions more than made up for the extra costs. We also had to wait a little while to pick up our order, but there was only one sushi chef working, so I think they might have had a hopefully temporary staffing issue. We're kind of new to Bel Air and have been trying out some different sushi restaurants and this is one we will definitely be going back to! read more

There are better options than Zen Sushi if you are craving a nice sushi dinner. We ordered steamed shrimp shumai as well as the pork shumai with wasabi. The steamed shrimp shumai were standard. Neither of us cared for the wasabi shumai. They were very large and full of pork though. We ordered 3 special rolls and a standard roll. Despite being different, they all tasted similar and mushy. The crab meat was very fishy. We really did not enjoy them at all. We also ordered spring rolls. The filling was not chopped and kinda slimy. All in all, a super disappointing $85 meal. read more

The food is ok not great. Customer service isn't as good as other place. I walked in by myself, and tried to ask if I can sit by the bar. I asked her if I can sit somewhere else (the bar), she said :"no, you sit here", then she walked me to the table which is fine to me. I don't know if it's because I'm by myself or not. Later on, there are a group of 3 people coming, and she asked if they want to sit by the bar or not. It's so unfair. I feel that when you come in with a lot of people, they will greet you better than just by yourself. She is so busy chatting with other group of people while I was waiting for the check. This was my first visit to Zen16. Needed a quiet escape from the office. I was the only person here, hmmm. I ordered the chicken katsu bento box and it was truly cooked to perfection. The chicken was crispy and hot. The bento box could easily feed 2 people. Service was quick and the waitress polite and friendly. I can't figure out why no one is here. Zen16 is phenomenal!! Their spicy mayo is gluten free so many special rolls can be made Celiac safe! They are so careful about cross contamination and I have never had an issue. The rolls are delicious and the fish is very fresh. My favorite sushi place in Bel Air. Hands down!!! read more

Ordered using Grubhub pickup. Tempura was crispy and not oily at all. The dipping sauce for it was on point. Chicken katsu was also crispy and like the tempura was cooked fresh to order. Not a fan of the spring rolls as the wrapper was a little too thick and probably could use a minute or two more in the fryer. Also ordered the pad Thai which had large chunks of chicken breast. The entreé was ok though looked like it was missing flavors of garlic and scrambled eggs. It came with a small container of crushed peanuts and half a lime. Everythjng was packaged very neatly and came with the dipping sauces in ramekins and utensils including chopsticks. My girls wanted sushi for their back to school night dinner. We usually go to another local spot but it's not my favorite so we decided to try Zen. I'm always shopping in the area so decided to give it a try. We were seated right away as the restaurant was not very busy. The waitress was attentive and took our order quickly. We ordered 2 rolls, the Bruce and Tango. Both were very good. I never remember all the ingredients to list in reviews but both were fresh and tasty. My girls loved both. We also ordered the XO seafood which was a mixture of seafood and veggies in a yummy brown sauce. This was very good. My only problem is that for $18, the portion should have been larger. I would love to order that again but felt the price for the small portion size was way too high. It's not really fancy, but was clean (including the bathroom). I love that they play relaxing music. We just ordered 6 rolls from Zen 16 Sushi. My wife asked me how my sushi was; I didn't want to say bad because it wasn't bad. I had two completely different rolls and neither of them was bad, neither were they good; they had no taste. The texture of the sushi was like an over-breaded crabcake where there is little crab and lots of bread. I've eaten sushi for 36 years, and I've had it all over the country. I dare say even some gas station's sushi had more flavor. The problem, with Zen 16 Sushi is the Panko flakes or fish flakes they mix into every roll we'd ordered. Nowhere in all my travels had someone ever added flakes to the fish and called it sushi. I'm not sure why a business would water down the flavor like this, except to save money on the end product. The only flavor in my whole meal was from the weird and unnatural-looking teal green, yes, teal green wasabi. I will never eat here again and would not recommend it to anyone else. I was going to give them one star but since we didn't get violently ill I'll give them an extra star. read more

I'm a sushi snob so I might be a bit harsh... The sushi was not flavorful... and the CA rolls were very bland. It didn't taste like they seasoned the rice... The sashimi was okay except that the fish was still frozen in the middle... Most places get their fish frozen, so that is not the problem but it should be thawed out before serving since it ruins the taste. I am writing this review during the Corona Virus shut down. We were so thrilled that they were still offering carry out. There are 2 reasons why I feel justified in giving them a full 5 star review: 1. They make what is now my all time favorite General Tso Shrimp-and I have had MANY variations of this dish over my numerous decades. Almost every other place is so timid about the heat level. Even though I ask for extra spicy, invariably I get the sauce tamed down to child levels. In this case, because everything is in such chaos right now, I forgot to ask for it with elevated spice. So, imagine my surprise when I got home and found it to be PERFECT...wonderful tingly heat and that Gen Tso sweet that I love. I am blown away. This will be my go-to place for this dish from now on. 2. The hostess was so friendly and accommodating and everything that we ordered was packaged well. Chicken teriyaki was good, got 2 portions of chicken breast. Nothing special and nothing bad. Sushi was more expensive than other local places (by only $1-2), however you get more pieces here (8 rolls instead of 6 for maki rolls). Had california and eel avocado, and tobiko nigiri. Kani was poor quality (shredded, almost like a salad), and the eel tasted somewhat stale. Tobiko was solid, they stuffed that roll with hella fish eggs. Service was quick but the waitress was kind of rude. Anyway its a alright place to eat, i wouldn't go out the way to eat here again though. read more

Pretty darn good Asian takeout. Excellent chicken and broccoli. Lo Mein and sushi also great. Wonton soup was kind of a bummer, not bad. I just prefer every other wonton soup in town. As you might know, My wife and I are fans of Koi Koi in Falls Church. We miss the delicious rolls up here. So for those times we're not in Northern Virginia, we recently tried out Zen 16 Sushi Cafe. I have to say they are a close second to Koi Koi. The rolls are not a spicy as Koi Koi, but they have some interesting combination going for them. The Earthquake roll has eel and cream cheese making for a delightful flavor combination and texture.
