Dragonfire Pizza is a solid pizza joint located in a strip mall on the outskirts of downtown Ellsworth. Inside you'll see positively medieval wall decor and an expansive menu with many options. They just so happened to have fresh slices when I arrived, so I decided to try their classic cheese pizza and the "Emerald Dragon" pizza. The classic cheese has an excellent, thin, crispy base with some sufficiently good sauce and cheese. One of the best parts is the woody, smoky crust and base resulting from the nice charring from the oven. The Emerald Dragon pizza was a nice experience! I don't usually like spinach on pizza, but Dragonfire hit it out of the park with this one. The creamy ricotta and fresh mozzarella pair beautifully and taste of garlicky goodness. The base is thin and crisp with the same great toasting on the plain slice, but the crust has a slight fluffiness that leads to a great pizza experience. I'm very happy with the pizza from Dragonfire and would definitely visit again!

    Chicken bacon pizza

We stopped in for lunch and tried a variety of ready-made slices. We had mixed reviews. The speciality summer pizza (BBQ pulled pork and pickles), and the mushroom were awesome. However, the chicken, bacon pizza was way too dry and the cheese pizza was too sugary. I look forward to trying the specialty pizza again, but I wish all the flavors were more consistent in taste. The place itself was pretty cool though. We enjoyed sitting down for our lunch and looking around at the different decor. The pizza was warmed up quickly, too so it's a great spot to stop in for a quick bite. However, all of the slices were sold as double slices, which made it more difficult to try different flavors (I prefer a single slice). Other notes - the workers didn't seem very approachable and the motion activated bell hung by the door that was annoying.

Best pizza in the area BY FAR. Also great salads. Also great local beers. And pinball! Who could ask for anything better? P.S. one of us in this family is from NYC and as a result is ridiculously critical of pizza--but loves this place, loves this pizza.

    Big Mac (special)

Happy happy happy. It's one thing when you're friends with the owner. It's another thing when the food is actually good, really good. Let's be honest. It's hard to find good pizza in Maine. This may be the last bastion for really good pizza. We've eaten the so-called "best pizza" all over the state. The others were either not up to the hype, have gone down hill sadly, or closed shop. The Emerald Dragon was exactly what you want out of a white pie, and the Big Mac was absolutely better than an actual Big Mac. I ordered it out of curiosity and was so glad I did. Even my picky, barely-eating six year old wolfed down a slice without hesitation, and he's as picky as we are with pizza--genetic or just good taste. Who knows? Either way, if you want a good traditional pie or a good experimental pie. Go here. It's more than worth it. We drive from north of Caribou to Ellsworth. Just do it.

Drove a couple hours to try this place out. Got there just before a line of people. Came in. We had cheese pizza and the queen dragon pizza. Both were very good. Queen dragon crust was crispy, which I prefer. Cooked in a hearth. All in all, I would go back again. Just to try another one of their pizzas.

Delicious pizza, by the slice or entire pie. Either way, fast and good. Calzones are small, but good.

This is a shame, because the place brings a great culinary diversity to an area where others might, as I did, want to pull over on the way to Bar Harbor. Vegan options were plentiful, and I got my coconut-infused curry with chickpeas, receiving a zingy, spicy flavor. Their naan was somewhat unconventionally given as an appetizer with chutneys, but this worked fine for me and it was freshly grilled. The portion size for the price was not huge, and I was actually surprised that they didn't do traditional Sri Lankan dishes like kootu paratha, but I was happy that i pulled over, and the option remains to travelers for a little while longer.

The place has few tables and a tin ceiling, and played some awesome retro forties music. Divine. The mulligatawny stew was fab, had tons of chicken and a good broth. The butter chicken was superb and the naan fresh baked. What a delicious meal. We got dessert there, a Mom's cake, that was full of nuts and had a side of cream that blew us away. So good! The service was spot on and attentive. I cannot wait to go back--as long as it's winter. You can't get a table there in the summer months. That is ok by me--I like having the place to locals in the winter. It feels homey.

We came back the following night for a REAL treat... First of all, Tony was our server. What an absolute sweetheart!! He had nothing but fantastic recommendations for us. He was definitely not your standard "waiter". He spoke to us like we were regulars, which we appreciated, considering we were from Massachusetts. We ordered three of his suggestions: wings, fish and chips and the spicy margarita. Outside of what was recommended we also got the beer cheese and GIANT soft pretzel, bangers and mash and the creme brûlée. First off- this was my first time trying beer cheese, so I was beyond excited. I hate pretzels, however. Guess what?? They were BOTH SOOO GOOD!! The pretzel was the size of my giant head and was so soft & salty. It really paired well with the creamy beer cheese. I'd come back just for this appetizer every time. The wings too, actually! I was a little hesitant because I read the word "dill" on the menu but they really tasted more like Buffalo wings with a note of dill at the very end. I think I might be in love.... On to the main event! The Smithwick's beer battered fish and chips... WOW. It was a little different than I'm used to (which was a great thing in this case). The batter was thick and crispy (I'm used to thinner) and the haddock was super moist. Very fresh! I order this meal wherever I go and this is definitely in my top 3 (out of probably 50 others). I was hoping I could switch out the chips for fries because, well, I've never had traditional chips before! I must say I was pleasantly impressed though! They were the BEST and completed the dish perfectly. My fiancé had the bangers and mashed. He said it was good and very traditional. I did not indulge, so I can't relay that in my review. Last, we ended the meal with a MUST try....the creme brûlée. LEAVE ROOM FOR THIS DESSERT! The top was a hard sugar coating while the rest was truly a creamy dream. I might have to stop back in JUST for this before I head back home! 5 stars. Definitely. 6 stars for service!!
