I have been in the fence about trying this place out. It has a menu that my son and I can both agree to. I had the filet and my son had the snow crab. I have to say, this was the best dinner we've had in quite some time. My steak was perfect, and the crab boil was delicious as well. Service was timely and friendly. It was early, around 5, the restaurant was mostly empty, but filling up as we left. Tables have ample space so that you're not crammed in. All the way around, a great experience. Ate here with James and I absolutely loved it with the live music every Sunday. Not enough seating to be in front of the stage to watch the musicians, but sound production so good that we could still hear it from our table. Many tables and booths to sit at. Known for seafood, which the food tasted just fine. Staff was on top of it by ensuring that our water cups were refilled and asking if there were any changes that we would like in our food. Quick service altogether with bathrooms by the front counter. Had to look a bit for them, so would be nice if there were signs to indicate where in the dining area that you have to go to reach the bathroom. A really good time here! It was our first time in this restaurant, we got seated fast and our drinks came fast . My husband ordered the sirloin with a bake potato and salad, the steak had no flavor, the baked potato was under cooked with so much grease it was drowning! I ordered the $60 steak and asked for it cooked med/well with a potato and salad. When my steak came out and I cut into it it, so bloody! We asked the server to take it back and he did, I never even took a bite of it, so when it came back it looked microwaved for 10sec still so bloody with the prices of steak that I cut were not even on the plate. It was the same steak I had. My husband insisted that it go back and make a new steak for me, I put my potato on a little try but it was undercooked and greasy just like my husband's! My husband asked for the Mgr. By the time I got my steak, my husband was done eating. So my husband asked the Mgr what is he going to do for us, and offered a free dessert. I came here for my birthday as they have an amazing free birthday package and I really wanted to get my pink crown replaced as my dog broke it thinking it was a toy. We arrived around 9pm-ish on a Saturday where they had live music playing at the bar. We asked to be seated away from the bar as we wanted to have conversations and felt the music was too loud to do that and our hostess was more than happy to accommodate that. Our server Wizz was absolutely the highlight of our visit as he ensured everything we ordered was brought out, checked in us at appropriate times and had a great sense of humor. Unfortunately, they were out of the pink crowns which seems like it is a popular choice as our server shared they only had the yellow and blue one. My brother got the sausage pasta, my boyfriend got their beef fried rice, my mom and I shared the Just the Basics seafood boil, and we got onion rings to share. I know last time I did the birthday package, I was only allowed to use from the alcohol options of a margherita or a Blue Hawaiian but I prefer fruity drinks and the Blue Hawaiian is a slushie drink. Luckily it seems you can choose a Roy Roger or Shirley Temple (used to be for kids' birthdays) and I went with the Shirley Temple. It was okay, I feel like it was more Sprite tasting and not much of the grenadine. The food arrived and everything tasted great. We were really impressed with the seafood boil and everyone got to try it out even though it is suited for one person. The yum yum sauce that comes with the fried rice is heavenly and my boyfriend who doesn't use too much sauce doused his fried rice with it but it was absolutely the best. My brother enjoyed his sausage pasta as well. We got our ice cream which was refreshing after all the food we devoured. They even brought out the magic candle which they say is reserved for parties of 6 and more but it just shows that Wizz wanted to make my birthday memorable. It is definitely the old black Angus. The decor is almost the same. And on Sunday night, you could hear the jazz in the lounge, which was nice. Ordered Long Island iced teas and they were all alcohol so if you like alcohol, this is your place. I asked for extra Coke which they gave me with no problem. The appetizer plate had hush puppies, onion rings, celery, mozzarella sticks, and the infamous wings. The wings lived up to the expectations and we will definitely be back to have wings here again. Also ordered a feeling crabby, seafood boil with snow, crab, head, shrimp, sausage, corn, and potatoes in the house special sauce, and it was very good. Almost as good as Captain crab. Was greeted immediately upon entering and offered restaurant or bar seating. For a change, I requested restaurant. When offered the choice of table or booth, I selected booth. Waiter Wayan was right there offering me a drink. They made my Tanqueray martini straight up with olives, a little bit dirty, perfectly! I selected steak and lobster tonight as this week has been brutal and while I hoped to drive home for 11 hours tomorrow, I now have at least 4 hours of work before heading home. The filet mignon was done medium rare as requested, Wayan even threw in some shredded cheese for my mashed potatoes, in addition to the brown gravy. The spring salad was fresh and had a nice variety of lettuces. Croutons, cabbage, cherry tomatoes and a lemon slice(?) with a generous container of vinaigrette. Mashed potatoes were delicious and the lobster was tender. This restaurant has a huge dining area that is rustic yet modern: a lot of wood, but the learher(?) upholstery looks new. A bit more overpriced, my final bill after a glass of wine, dessert and coffee was $124. The filet and lobster was $78. At those prices, I expect a small pitcher of cream for my coffee, not two tiny plastic sealed half and half containers. It is sadly becoming more common. I never like to write these reviews when a restaurant is really trying but misses the mark. First what is this place? Is it a crab boil, a sports bar, karaoke/entertainment venue, or a steakhouse? To do it well you need to choose. The boil was underwhelming in all flavor aspects. The quality was missing on the sausage and the butter sauce was oil. There are other amazing places around Tacoma. The fish and chips were oily but passable. The oddly sweet bitesized hush puppy's were cooked but I have had better. Service was attentive then they just never came back. The cocktails and sangria drinks were all juice and sugar. The happy hour menu has extended hours but dont get too excited as the money off ranged from 95 cents to 2.25. Personally I would pick 1 area to focus on what do yoy want to be known for? Another thought Reduce hours of the happy hour increase % off, reduce @ of offerings. We came here because we wanted to get some steaks. Little did we know when we walked in, it was more known for seafood boils. I had never experienced one before and when we passed the table who had one we decided hell why not go ahead and try it out, it looks amazing. We ordered a seafood boil with crab and shrimp and all the yummy extras. We committed. We wore the bibs and we wore the weird plastic gloves and we drove in. I felt like I was a child again eating with my hands, it was kind of freeing! It was very messy, don't get me wrong. But oh my gosh was it so flavorful, such a different experience than anything I've ever had. The service was also top-notch, they can anticipate everything we would need like fresh drinks, extra napkins, a new discard tub, a fresh pair of gloves! I also really liked the ambience and was really comfortable in the restaurant itself. It was sectioned off, the tables were really private, and there was also a cool bar area that was on a lower level. Looks like they have a space for karaoke or live music. We often talk about our experience here and when we'll make it back! It is on the pricier side for that experience so it's a once in a while meal, but I can't wait to try it again soon! read more

It's a Thursday night taking my 80 year old parents to dinner. We cannot hear because the DJ had the volume up so loud you can hear it in the parking lot. Add to this the steaks were full of gristle and disappointingly a grade below "choice" which one wouldn't expect at what used to be a quality meal. Zesty is going downhill and their lounge music (band on Friday too) is dragging them down even further. Total disappointment and won't be going back. I have a terrible terrible dairy allergy and they made sure I could have what I craved and that was their crab pot which they made with no butter first me. Let me start by saying we love this place. The food is great. The service is good. They have big TVs in their bar and we used to love watching games here Sunday night. Then they started having a live band Sunday night at 6pm. It's awful. You're trying to watch the game and you have a loud band playing music. You can't talk to your friends because it's so loud. PLEASE STOP WITH THE LIVE MUSIC Sundays!!!! Or move their start time back to 9pm after the games. All the tables around us were also complaining about the music. We were all there to watch the Seahawks game but had to deal with the loud obnoxious noise. We won't be back until the live music on Sundays stops being a thing. I'll call every Sunday to check if you're doing live music. If you stop the live music Sundays I'll give you 5 stars. Came here for Mother's Day with a party of 18. We had a reservation weeks in advance. Horrible service. It was the worst dining experience I've ever had. Ruined my Mother's Day, my mom's Mother's Day and my mother-in-law's Mother's Day. They divided our party up between two tables that weren't even near eachother. The server forgot multiple meals, sides, drinks and didn't apologize. He also tried to charge us for several items that we never even received. We didn't get refills on our drinks at all during our entire visit. He didn't check in to see if we were okay even ONCE. We didn't get seated until 40 minutes after our reservation time when we arrive 10 minutes early. We spent a total of three hours at the establishment. On top of this, several people in our party didn't even get to eat their meals because they didn't receive them. Avoid this place at all costs. Mind you, this is my fourth time at Zesty. The baked potato was really good, except they served it with a prefilled butter to go sauce cup, & a sour cream cup packed the same like sauces you get from Taco Time. Not enough for the potato so of course ordered more butter & sour cream. No bacon bits or chives offered. Was good though. Salad with blue cheese dressing was fresh & nice. The steak, though slightly undersized, was absolutely delicious! Cooke perfectly medium/medium rare, had great flavor, amazingly tender, and one of the best steaks I've had at a restaurant in a long time! Kudos there, and earned a repeat visit sometime coming soon. Drawbacks were from a visual presentation is that the crab cakes came out on a plain plate, the potato plain plate, & the steak plain plate. I don't really care, but having been in the hospitality business for a long time, some garnishes or a little touch of finesse would go a long way. Most people eat with their eyes first. Prices are decent, but it feels like a place that is not sure what it wants to be; doing too much... Saw a crawfish boil at the table next to me that didn't look appetizing at all. And what showed up was a lobster's tail about a size of a half of a corn (the smaller end) a potato big is a 50 Cent piece with season on something that small and a piece of corn, I guess the other half of the corn. And they wanted 27.99 for the dinner that wasn't enough for an appetizer. There's literally more food when you order a happy meal from McDonalds and minus the apple slices and that's $3.99. I can't tell you how they tasted. They smelled so bad, I couldn't bring myself to eat any. They had so much garlic on them that you could see the chunks of garlic. I don't like garlic like that. Besides, they were supposed to be bbq wings, not garlic wings! I ordered the ribeye, asparagus and gumbo soup. The gumbo soup was fine, it just had a massive amount of sausage in it. It was also more rice than soup. I asked for the ribeye to be mid rare. In some places it was blue! I am immunocompromised because of transplants so I have to be very careful eating meat that's not fully cooked. From now on if I want a ribeye, I will go to STK or another actual steakhouse so as not to put my health in danger. It also was not seasoned. I was not able to eat the whole thing. The asparagus was fine and seasoned well. It was really the only thing I had there that was fully edible. The only upside was our waiter. That guy was awesome. I made sure to tip him extra because our drinks were constantly refilled, he made sure we didn't need anything, and he checked to make sure we were doing ok. I even caught him out of the corner of my eye with the steak sauce before I had asked him for it! It seems like a place where you would go for a show and maybe drinks and appetizers. I did notice that they had bulletins for live music and karaoke. That probably would have been fun. They also seemed to specialize in seafood boils. Maybe I just didn't order the right thing. Went there to listen to the music and have a few beers. I thought the service was slow. They appeared to be understaffed. And I usually check out the bathrooms and I was disappointed to find they weren't as clean as I expected given the fact that food is being served there, but most disappointing Was the advertisement of music and a stage that did not complement the musicians. It's too small and it needs to be expanded so that they don't have musicians playing in the corner. They did not turn off the TVs while the musicians were playing. This is both distracting to the musicians and disrespectful to their talent. I did not have any of the food or appetizers so I can't speak to that.
