I want to say I came here on the recommendations of local regulars. One thing that I want to say and the reason for the positive aspect of the 2 star review is the place is clean and comfortable and it wasn't to loud so I was able to chat with my friends and family. I ordered the Mushroom Swiss burger, the rest of my party got the fish fry and two turkey Sandwich specials. We started with two pitchers of beers, and wound up Finishing the pitchers PLUS an additional beer while waiting. The wait for the food was 45 Minutes, and it was not busy in the time we were there. I was ready to have a great experience here, but the long turn around time on our meals was delayed due to a fryer being down. This definitely affected the food production times, but even when our meals showed I thought the burger just wasn't very tasty, the patty wasn't cold but it wasn't hot that's for sure. The fries were pretty solid, and we got Jo's to go for a Youngster waiting at home and she really liked them. So not a horrible experience but not a place that inspired a return visit anytime soon. read more

I primarily work from home, but my office is less than a mike from this gem that opens at 11am. I have had their wings over 10x and am finally getting around to writing a review. They usually knock the wings out of the park, but on a few occasions I've received a slightly overcooked batch. I always order the wings dry with dipping sauces on the side with a double salad ($13 and change with tax included). Same price goes for wings with fries/tots/Jo's/slaw/or potato salad. Definetely a more unique texture to their wings, but it really hits the spot. Place can get busy on bingo night. Pull tabs for days, ample TV's and 2 fast pool tables. We have been going to pub 2121 for years. Tonight we ordered our usual chicken and JoJos and I had just the gizzards My wife this time instead of having a salad she ordered extra JoJos. They said that they are extremely busy and I'll be about 35-40 minutes. So we played darts and had a beer and the food arrived and ate our dinner as We play darts. At the end of dinner we re-realized that my wife didn't get a chicken wing and we didn't get any extra Joe Joe's. when the waitress came back we mention that to her and she indicated that the chicken all care prepackaged. She offered to make us another chicken wing and JoJo but we said that's OK and then I said oh why don't you give us a side salad to go. Few minutes later the manager, Megan came back and told us that since we didn't bring this to their attention before we had finished our dinner she wasn't going to make it right and we should've said something earlier. I don't know why that had anything to do with being shorted our food, but I wasn't gonna make an issue over something trivial. When my wife was leaving, she saw two people at the bar complaining that they also didn't get all the food that they had ordered and Megan also basically told them the same , too bad was her attitude. I don't know where they got her for a manager, but I bet her attitude lost several customers including myself. She has no idea how to be a manager and treat their customers appropriately. Without loyal customers, theyhave nothing. So sad to lose loyal customers over something so petty. The previous manager wouldn't have treated their customers that way. I found this place to be lively and entertaining. The experienced wait staff is friendly and attentive, also very fun. They have a pretty good list of beers on tap and there is a full bar. I ordered takeout on St. Patrick's day from 2121, and let me tell you! It was FANTASTIC! The food was delicious and hot, and so incredibly well priced! You get a lot of food! I got the steak dinner; the steak was the perfect temperature & seasoned well, the fries and salad were so good! My mom, who is super picky, said that she would eat the prawn dinner every night if she could! The waitress and manager (or maybe owner?) were all super friendly, helpful, and attentive! Two words: FRIED CHICKEN. I visited this place on a Wednesday night. Looked like a dive. Large box of concrete a few turns off a major road. Walked in to a huge cavernous room with lines of tables and chairs. Pull tabs and pool tables between the door and the tables. Everyone sitting together. 80% of the people were over 70. I'm thinking, what the heck is this place? A supper club bar for retirees? Turns out it was BINGO and raffle night. And the people were awesome! I sat next to three ladies who were dead serious about the game. One of them won three times. Place was packed and foods and drinks were flying everywhere. The guy I went with swore up and down that the fried chicken was the thing to order. He was spot on! The chicken platter came with four pieces-breast, leg, thigh, and wing, a huge potato cut into four jos and fried, and a nice size serving of homemade slaw. Look, I love Popeyes and it's good but 2121 does craft fried chicken. The crust was perfect and crispy. Not as bready as a Popeyes would do and they don't have a spicy version but they give whatever side sauces you want, including Franks, a Sweet Chili, AND a delicious fresh sour cream and chive for the jos. And not greasy in the least bit. They must be flash frying in super hot oil. Came out nuclear temperature. Eat it slowly and carefully. 12 bucks. Washed it down with two IPAs. They have a nice tap list and full bar. Plus the menu has lots of other typical bar foods--burgers, sandwiches, pizzas. But don't miss the chicken. He said the chicken wasn't the best but wasn't the worst, would have liked more seasonings and the jo's were good! I tried those, very soft . Numm. I did NOT like the burger. You could very clearly tell it was a previously frozen store bought patty. Thin and had no texture and had that gross frozen patty flavor. I couldn't even finish it. I LOVE potato salad, so I was so excited to eat it! But it was too relishy for me. If you like a lot of relish in your potato salad you will love it! Everything else about it was perfect. The service was good once they opened the door to customers. We were driving by and saw their Bud Light sign with OPEN was ON. We tried the door locked and then called and was told they weren't open for another 7 minutes. I asked why their beer sign was lit and said open. Apparently they turn on all the neon regardless of actually being open. Their was another car that pulled in and also tried the locked door and we told him the story. The crowd is a bit older than Tacoma proper seems to be (when I was there on a busy Saturday night I would say the average age was 40), and the many bikes in the front would make you think it was a bit rough. But nothing could be further! I got together with a group of about 8, and our server was super friendly and on point. She stayed busy with other tables but kept the food and drinks coming. Now they have a French Dip with bacon and jalapeños, but I am a sandwich purist and like my Dip plain. It was EXCELLENT. Probably one of the best I've had in Washington. And the assortment of different kinds of fries (Steak, Shoestring/Jo's/Tots/Chips) is wonderful! My friend got the Fish and Chips which came with what tasted like a beer batter with homemade tartar sauce, and it was just as yummy. The drinks are strong and a great price as well. My wife and I live in SOCAL, but my wife's mother lived in Puyallup. When one or both of us would fly there to see her, we would take a bus to the Tacoma bus station and she would pick us up. On our way to her home, we never, and I mean never, did not stop at the 2121 Pub for chicken and jo jo's!! Simply, outstanding!! We loved the salads, the jo jo's, and especially the chicken!! We love good tavern food, and 2121 is it!! The food, service, and prices are excellent! The staff learned to know my mother-in-law so well that when we arrived, a Bud Light was on the table before her butt hit the chair...she felt very special...thank you for that! YES, this place is a dive. NO, it is not a scary one. The servers are young, attractive females who seem to have all their teeth. The demographic is that of either a dirty manual laborer wearing a safety orange sweatshirt, or a senior citizen. By the look of the menu, I'm pretty sure I'm dead-on correct with that assumption. Where else can you find an egg breakfast for less than $4? Don't say Shari's or I'll hurt you. I'm talking about a good, homemade breakfast. For years I've heard Mr. DeRosa rave about the chicken at 2121 Tavern in the Midland area (off 112th and Portland Avenue). Since fried chicken has never been my first choice when dining out, I never gave it much thought. I've been in this establishment many times. Up until about the past year I have been more than happy to come here and tell other people about it. The fried chicken is usually the best but waitstaff absolutely is not. Our server this time was attractive, but I'm here to get my drink and chow on, not to care about how good looking our server is. When a waitress takes more than 10 minutes to get to my table (because she's too busy wrapping her arms around men at the bar,) and not taking my order, I start retracting dollars from her tip. Once I run out of dollars to remove from the tip, I start wanting cash taken off my bill. Our drinks went dry, a few times. The chicken was not nearly as great as it has been in the past, and the Joe's were not fully cooked. Exceptionally greasy this time. Last time I was served overcooked chicken, almost burnt, such a dark brown... I mentioned that the fryers needed to be cleaned (as I've worked in restaurants and know when dirty fryers are the issue) and she proceeded to tell me that "this is how the chicken always is..." Needless to say, I walked out that night. I've had chicken here lot's and that is not how it is. That's how it is when the cooks and waitstaff are neglecting their duties. Get on the ball waitstaff.
