Absolutely lovely winery! We bought a few bottles of the Estate Petite Sirah and wish we had bought a case. The Petite Sirah is so incredibly delicious. Bold, smooth, and rich. This is now a new favorite as I tend to favor Cabs. Not into futures so I was so happy to be able to purchase wine there. We will be back soon. We love Zichichi!!! We came for the first time about 3 years ago with a friend who grew up with Steve. We tasted from the barrel and purchased futures (first time doing so). We loved the wines from the barrel and they are even better as they age. We now visit Zichichi every time that we come to Sonoma!! I have to judge Zichichi on their Winter Wineland experience and it definitely was not my favorite. They do have a beautiful deck and the wine is good, but it definitely didn't wow me. They had barrel tasting on three of their future releases, which was nice but not super exciting. read more

Please pay no attention to sub-par reviews. The business model is that almost all his wine is sold on futures. Not a conventional tasting room. So this is not a place necessarily for newbies. I have never seen the wine in stores or restaurants. In my experience (over 40 years) these are top flight Zins (old vine) and Petite Sirahs. They need some more time in the bottle (1-2 years) after their release. You will be rewarded! I am a local and in the industry, specializing in Zinfandel. I'm just saying! read more

Old vine Zinfandels are my new favorite thing ever and the 2004 old vine zin, the first vintage of such by Zichichi Winery, is delicious and is only going to get better with age. I've tried to lay two different bottles down but have been unable to resist the velvety temptation of such beautiful complex wine, beckoning to me from within my dark closet. It also kept me off the Silver Oak and the Chateau Montelena, which is good. According to the website, the 2004 is sold out, but the 2005 old vine zin is on the way and I'm confident it will not disappoint. I found this little gem in the wine country of Healdsburg with some friends while we were out for an afternoon constitutional, trying to walk off some killer Thanksgiving hangovers. All eight of us were blown away by the zinfandel and six went in on a case of the super-special, super-green, as-yet-to-be-bottled petit verdot. Steve Zichichi, the man himself was behind the tasting counter and he graciously offered us a taste of this wine straight from the barrel. It was a bright, jammy color, with amazing viscosity for such a young wine and though the flavor profile was still clearly immature, you could just taste all the juicy yumminess that was going to come forward on the palate in due time. The tasting room is bright and large and simple, with a stone fireplace and a wide deck that overlooks the vineyard. It's a comfortable place, and Steve was a wonderful host, a patient answerer of questions and very excited by our enthusiasm for his wine. I've been back two more times. The last time to reserve two bottles of the petit verdot for my parents and to grab yet another bottle of the zin to "lay down." Of course I drank it a week later. It's too delicious. Keep an eye out for Zichichi wines. It's a young venture, but it is worthy of support from wine lovers coast to coast. Try it out and spread the word. read more

Yet another wonderful experience at Zichichi Winery on 12/30. As a local and in the industry myself I do my fair share of wine tasting on my off days. With visiting friends in town, one of them remembered visiting a few years ago and asked to go back. I am so glad we did. It's always a fun experience to taste out of the barrels. Fun to imagine what the wines will taste like in a year or two. Our host was amazing as we've tasted with him prior. It got busy and a lot of wine being ordered before we left. Nice property that has a bit of an elevated view. You can also go down some stairs to see the vines up close. Nice staff, pleasant when asked 'how it works' over and over again. 3 tasting room wines, 3 barrel wines. All reds when we went. This is a true gem of Dry Creek Valley. All their wines a simply amazing and the owners and employees are very friendly. I suggest everything but the 07 and 08 Zin are drinking perfectly and the 07 Petite Sirah is simply awesome. Do not miss this winery when you hit the Dry Creek Valley! read more

This was our first stop for our barrel tasting weekend. The wine maker was on hand to talk about the wines. They were tasting three wines out of the barrels and this was my first experience barrel tasting. They had an Estate Zinfandel, and Old Vine Zinfandel and a Petite Sirah. I had tempered my expectation as to what to expect at barrel tasting, but I was impressed with what I tasted here. The wine maker noted that they usually sell out on futures of the Petite Sirah before they ever bottle it, and I can see why. The Old Vine Zinfandel tasted almost like it was ready to be bottled, so I'm really excited to see what it tastes like once it is bottled. The Estate Zinfandel was ok, but not nearly as good as its Old Vine counter part. In the tasting room we tasted their bottled Petite Sirah and a Cab Sav that was ok as well. We were impressed with the Petite Sirah and the Old Vine Zinfandel and bought futures of them that we will be excited to try next year when we get them. They had a small deck off of the tasting room that provided for a great view out on Dry Creek. We will definitely be back next year, and we are looking forward to receiving our futures next year. read more

This is always a great place to visit and the wine is great. You do have to have a little patience as most of the wine is sold out, but you can always order futures (we ordered over 2 cases). The scenery is also breathtaking. We enjoyed having a lunch out on their patio. Highly recommended!!! read more

When out in Dry Creek Valley for some wine tasting I usually make Zichichi Winery a stop. Very limited release wines, the owner Steve is usually the guy behind the bar. I love his Zinfandel and now have several family and friends hooked on it. On my visit last week I discovered that he just released a Sauvignon Blanc - loved it also - took home several bottles. read more

Zichichi Winery is a perfect example of why I always direct friends who are visiting the Sonoma Wine Country to skip Sonoma Valley and go to the Dry Creek wineries. Not only is it much less crowded, you can get a great bottle of Zinfandel or very good bottles of Cabernet or Petite Syrah at Zichichi for less than you would pay for a good bottle from Napa or Sonoma Valley. I first visited this place back in the fall of 2008. My wife and I both loved all three 2007 wines that they were barrel tasting and bought a half case of futures, 2 bottles each of the Zinfandel, Petit Syrah, and Cab. We ordered 2 more each of the new futures last fall as well, and will probably order more futures next fall, as they seem to produce consistently good wines. Last week we opened up a bottle of the 2007 Zin to go with a pepper steak and baked potato dinner. Absolutely fabulous! Strong berry notes, very fruity with a hint of pepper. The second best Zinfandel I have ever had. I would only rate Armida's reserve Zinfandel, Poizin, higher, and it costs $60, making the Zichichi Zin a bargain, IMO. I would also recommend visiting the Bella Winery as well while your in the area. F. Teldeschi, Alderbrook, and Armida are other good bets in the Dry Creek Appelation. read more

Zichichi winery was recommended by another local winemaker for a visit, so we decided to make the visit. The tasting consisted of a barrel tasting of three wines (which if you're unfamiliar means you taste wine drawn from the barrel while it's still aging). There is no option for a bottle tasting. Their model is to sell "futures" on their wines. It's a novel concept, but not for everyone. The wines we tasted definitely had some real promise, but they were still young, and it was difficult-to-impossible to appreciate a lot of the complexities in the imbalance of a too-young wine. While very friendly and accommodating, it wasn't a very intimate or relaxed tasting experience, and it all seemed quite commercialized (less Sonoma and more Napa). However, the view from the back deck is absolutely gorgeous. But since there are no bottles to purchase and enjoy, it's kind of wasted. If you are interested in a barrel-only tasting, or find the idea of buying wine futures to be interesting (don't be fooled into thinking that you're saving money on the wines by buying futures), then this is worth a visit. I really can understand why some people give Zichichi 4 or 5 stars. If you're looking for something more intimate and relaxing, there are better options, which is why I personally am giving it 3. read more

Great wine, great staff, and great place. All wines we tasted were world class. Liked the barrel tasting as it gives you a better idea of what the wine will taste like as it ages. Buying futures saves you 20 percent off the usual retail cost. A great way to buy wine that sells out every year. Where else can you have the opportunity to go out into the winery and taste wine from the barrel. We stopped at several wineries in Sonoma and Napa and not one of them offered barrel tasting. How much more intimate can one get than being inside the winery talking with knowledgable staff and other guests? read more

I found out about this winery from a conversation I had with a friend who asked me if they were related to me. My mother's maiden name was Zichichi and I was interested if there was a connection. I have been there twice and I still haven't had the pleasure of meeting Steve Zichichi the owner. The view from the deck is amazing and the winery grounds are meticulously groomed and clean. There are several old olive trees on the property that he makes oil out of and sell on site. My wife and I did three barrel tastings provided by Katrina. She is so very knowledgeable and a pleasure to talk to. The wine is one of the best I have ever had and I drink wine at every meal and I mean EVERY meal. It's an Italian thing that I grew up with. Both sides of my family are 100% Italian. We visit several wine regions and this is out of the way of the well know Napa Sonoma region. This is the Dry Creek Valley Region and there are several small wineries scattered about the area. Take a day and visit this winery and several others in the area, they are less crowded and relaxing. read more

This very small winery is amazing. Tastings are $10, refundable with bottle purchase (which is hard to say no to after you try their wines). We tasted a cab and two zins up front, and then 2 zins straight from the barrels in back with the owner. It seems like this is the standard tasting. The wines are absolutely incredible and worth far more than the ~$30 price tag. read more

We didn't enjoy the current wines offered (Estate Zin, Old Vine Estate Zin, Cab) as much as we enjoyed the barrel tasting. It was the only place we went to that had barrel tasting, which was definately fun! We ended up buying futures for 2008 Cab, Old Vine Zin, and Petite - which was like blueberry pie. Overall good experience, and here's to hoping that we love our futures by the time they're bottled next spring! read more

Came upon this beautiful little winery and decided to stop in. Glad we did. We tasted the 08 estate zin, solid! Also went to the back for a barrel tasting of the futures 2011 Estate Zin 2011 old vine Zin, and 2011 estate petite sirah. Ended up ordering 3 bottles of 2011 estate Zin and 3 bottles of estate Petite Sirah. They are like liquid gold on the tongue. Can't wait to get these next year. Very friendly staff. Our group stopped by this winery on a recommendation as well. I'll keep it brief.. The tasting room was clean and resembled a contemporary cabin. There was a small patio just off the tasting room. We were interested in taking our tastings out there but the gal who was pouring was blowing through the 3 wines they were offering that we didn't even have time to wander out there. It was my wife's turn to drive so we shared...and, as we have experience many times at wineries, our pours were significantly less than the rest of our groups. I guess it was our penalty for not getting our own. She did take us into the barrell room to try 2 whole additional wines we could purchase for futures (great stuff out of the barrel). The gal pouring had a very little sense of humor (dont say it...we were NOT drunk and this was only our 2nd visit of the day). Overall: Good wine, cool place but a rather blah tasting experience. I would not go back unless I was in a hury to slam 5 decent wines. We were honestly in and out in 20 minutes and that is only because we asked a few questions! read more

Best Cab, PS and Zin in Dry Creek and possibly Russian River Valley. And Katrina was a great host and treated us like family. Zichichi is a different kind of winery in which you barrel taste and buy futures to pick up or ship about a year later. I picked up today what I barrel tasted last March and bought some 2013 cab as well. Small batch production and they don't skimp on quality. Zichichi Winery in Healdsburg is a must stop when visiting the Dry Creek Valley. Their wines are fantastic which complement the friendly staff and wonderful owners. They frequently offer Barrel tasting and a discount on the purchasing of futures. They currently offer 4 wines (Estate Zinfandel, Old Vine Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petite Sirah). The Zinfandels are fantastic in true Dry Creek fashion but the Petite Sirah is my favorite...think Blueberry Cobbler in a bottle...YUM! It is a gem and have taken many visitors and Zichichi wines and staff never disappoint! read more
