Believe it or not, after more than 10 years living in Albuquerque, I really haven't been to many of the finer dining establishments. I recently visited zinc for the first time for a birthday celebration. Overall, I was very impressed with everything. I enjoyed my salad, which at the time was the seasonal special and had pears in it. I also really enjoyed the lobster ravioli. I didn't try and cocktails because I wasn't drinking at the time but their cocktail menu was interesting. Overall, I would totally come back, I'd like to check out their more casual bar menu. read more

WOW -- extraordinary service, food, ambiance --- the WHOLE PACKAGE. I came for the first time with 7 friends. It was a Wednesday @ 5 pm when they opened. The hostess was kind in allowing this senior group to sit upstairs while having happy hour items from the *cellar menu. Our gracious server was Menomonee. She took our drink orders and everyone was happy with the festive well-prepared cocktails. Then we ordered our appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Everything was right on point. I even took a few photos - which I rarely ever remember to do. (I will post them after this review is online.) [*While the cellar seems very intimate, one person in our party was with a cane and has trouble with stairs, and another person has vision issues in the dark, so we could not handle that environment.] So, well done Zinc staffers and kitchen! We finished off our alphabet date with the an amazing dinner. Zinc wine bar and Bistro was amazing. We had a very attentive waiter Jessie. The food came out hot and on point. I could not find a flaw in any of the food except that it was so much, I had to take half mine home to enjoy tomorrow. We ordered the bread plate and seared rare ahi tuna to start. My husband ordered the cast iron seared wagyu flank steak and I ordered the grilled Atlantic Salmon. The chef in the restaurant knows how to season his food and his staff are very talented. Enjoyed our evening at Zinc. Interesting atmosphere, menu & cocktail list. Robust wine list, however I expected better selections for the price points. I ended up going with a house wine red (Rioja) and it was fine. The Duck egg rolls were top notch! Highly recommend. Bread & Spread- also a winner. French onion soup, could use more depth, but it was good for a cool night. I enjoyed the evening special salad, strawberry, fig, and salut cheese. Excellent portion, fresh & filling. Chicken Saltimbocca- ample portion, middling flavor profile. I'd try another option. Server was pleasant and needed some assistance. The ambiance is great. The cocktails were excellent. Our server was attentive. The food however left a lot to be desired. We had the duck eggrolls and seared ahi tuna for appetizers. Both were previously frozen. The grilled salmon was overcooked The Manhattan Frites strip loin was also previously frozen. The supposedly medium rare meat turned out gray. A new friend invited me to join him for dinner at Zinc.  He made us a reservation for a weeknight, and we were seated upstairs; the atmosphere was warm and comforting, with service that was totally on-point.  It was quiet enough at our table to be able to have a conversation without raising our voices unnecessarily :-) Tip: Zinc has a very well equipped wine list; we had no trouble finding something to our liking that paired nicely with our food As our appetizer, we both went with the Onion Soup Gratinee (toasted baguette, gruyeye & fontina cheeses).  I completely loved the soup; it was salty (just enough to be tasty, without overdoing it) hearty, and busting with flavor.  My friend went with the Manhattan Steak Frites as his entree, while I ordered the Grilled Lamb Strip Loin (roasted gold potatoes with feta cheese, wilted greens & shallot crips, Rhone red-thyme jus).  I tried a bite of his steak, and really enjoyed the seasoning; the Frites were also perfectly salted and fried to a beautiful golden brown.  My  Grilled Lamb was excellent!  So wonderfully seasoned, tender, and delicious that I made it vanish faster than Severus Snape confronted with shampoo ;-) I'm not quite sure how we did it, but despite the amazing entrees, we managed to save room to share a dessert.  While it wasn't all that memorable, dessert was the prefect ending to an exceptional meal.  I highly recommend Zinc, and wouldn't hesitate to return! read more

My plate was delicious, and I ate every last bite. The service was amazing as well. We were a party of 16, the food and drinks came out fast, and the waitress was very nice. The atmosphere was on the darker side, but light enough to be comfortable. They even have a cellar bar option downstairs if you just want some drinks and appetizers. I tried the smoked trout & potato pancakes appetizer and it was great. The desserts were not my favorite though and I would skip that next time. read more

I'm a little late to the game, BUT I am so happy that Zinc has opened up again! The restaurant is one of my favorite places for a date night or birthday celebration. On this night we had a girls' night. The Cellar Bar has, what would refer to as, elevated bar food. I mean hearty decadent sandwiches and appetizers. We had the calamari to start, which is always a favorite of mine from this family of restaurants. Then we had the shaved prime rib sandwich and the burgers. I ate the prime rib sandwich and it was phenomenal. The Gruyère, carmelized onions and mushrooms were perfection. Top all of that off with a delicious au jus to dip it in and I was in heaven. Also, I can't forget the soft fresh bread! We finished the night with the Apple Streusel Cheesecake. Drooling just thinking of it! read more

We went to Zinc for my birthday dinner and will definitely be back again. The ambiance with the restaurant is modern and classy. Our waitress was attentive and made sure we were taken care of. Last but not least, the food, everything we had was delicious. I do not like trout but their smoked trout potato pancake was amazing. I had the sliced beef tenderloin (medium rare) with bleu cheese mashed potatoes and it was like butter. Just melted in your mouth. It was good. Angel hair pasta could of used some salt. They do not have a selection on just regular soda, or something comparable. I don't drink, so that was really, frustrating and disappointing. I don't really care for mock tails, or NA beer I don't need to look like I'm drinking. read more

I took my husband here 10 years ago for his birthday when we were just college students. We went back here, and it's not the same anymore. Maybe my experience changed because we mature. The duck egg roll was good, but it was missing something. The bread was definitely not homemade. I saw the waitress pulled them out of the bag and sliced them up. I am not sure if the prices are still the same, but the wine was delicious. I will probably check out the other places around town before deciding on going back here again. read more

I've always enjoyed Sunday brunch at Zinc, but it had been a while since my last visit. The atmosphere is classy and relaxing with their lighting and music, and their brunch menu always has unique sweet or savory choices. I think the brunch items change with the seasons? We also thought the free chocolate truffle sampler was pretty awesome with a Yelp check-in. It was a beautiful, mellow Sunday morning-not too busy-and I suppose our server was feeling those slow, mellow vibes as well, ha! Sunday Funday began with mimosas, Bloody Marys, and a Chipotle Michelada. The chipotle seasoning was smoky - not what I typically prefer, but I liked that it was different. I was blown away by the German Farmhouse Omelette. Inside the omelet: smoked sausage, bacon, caramelized onion and shoestring vegetables, gratinéed with beer cheese. *drool* On the side: a crispy potato pancake with applesauce and sour cream. I'd go back in a heartbeat to get that omelet again! I also highly recommend the Carne Adovada Benedict. The red chile with their hollandaise sauce was seriously heavenly. Sat in the Cellar last night for a friend's birthday. I was happy to find space for the six of us in a corner booth. Unsure of how long I'd be waiting for the party to arrive, I ordered the daily drink special Devil Margarita: a margarita with a cabernet sauvignon floater. The drink was a weird twist, tasted kinda like sangria, so I only had the one and switched to gin afterwards. My friends arrived, having come from a long day of work. They were excited to eat and drink! Beers, Margs, vino, went all around; our server did not miss a beat. To eat, I ordered a bowl of fries for the table, in addition to several Thursday Taco plates, and a couple of entrees. The fries, and the two sauces which accompany the potato-y goodness, were amazing. The tacos are small, but flavorful. The birthday girl had the strawberry salad, which was more way more sweet than savory. The lamb sirloin was less gamey than lamb chops might usually be, but every bite was savored and devoured. It is nice that you can order food from the restaurant upstairs while down in the Cellar. I secretly arranged with the waitress to use the Yelp check-in offer of free chocolate truffles as a birthday dessert, which went over very well. A small glass of bubbly was even brought over for my friend. So lovely! Eventually, live music started playing. The artist was talented, but it became so loud down there that we had to yell across the table to share stories. Nonetheless, we had a blast and we were stuffed by the end of it. read more

Quite simply the best restaurant in the Southeast quadrant and perhaps the whole town. This place oozes class and sophistication, serves extremely tasty fare, and employs flawless staff. Though the menu is limited when compared to more casual, catch-all dining locations, they focus 100% of their expertise on making each item the most delicious thing you've ever laid tastebuds to. I love their brunch because their coffee is exquisite, the ambiance divine, and the food stupefyingly good. You'll spend a little dough on this meal, to be sure, but you won't regret it. Their seared tuna is breathtaking and the bread pudding is to die for. We had the croque madame and chicken fried chicken brunch most recently and my husband and I were both positively wow'ed. The wine cellar downstairs is also a wonderful way to wrap up the evening. Zinc is definitely my pick for a date night. I don't think you can go wrong if you're trying to have a nice occasion. read more

We are happy with the aesthetic of the new improvements but not happy with the other changes. The menu has changed as have their weekly specials (there are none now). If I am back in Albuquerque, New Mexico I will probably come back to Zinc again to have their spinach artichoke dip and other items on the menu. I went for happy hours with my husband and ordered Cesar salad, chicken wings, steamed mussels, artichoke dip and margarita. The chicken wings were delicious blend of sweet and spicy. It was not overwhelming spice but the perfect one that you can enjoy the sauce was super flavorful and it also had a little slaw on the side which actually was spicy but tasty The steamed mussels had broth with some veggies, bread and mussels. Everything was light, citrusy and tasty but the mussels could have been fresher. But then again I realized lot of seafood is not local but imported. The combination of bread and broth was amazing though. The only food item which was not good was Cesar salad, for some reason it had some bitter taste. Last and not the least was my favorite, the delicious, mouthwatering artichoke dip. Creamy goodness!! Overall it was a nice experience with good & quick service. Truly glad that the BFF suggested this place as our last dinner spot. It was raining... and glad we made a reservation and requested a table upstairs and both were granted. Ambiance: very modern... definitely a date spot... modern fixture. Our server Diego was wonderful... friendly and prompt. We ordered the following ... however... we again... didn't share our food. - wild mushroom Chinese broccoli potstickers (Hand made dumplings with hoisin-tamari glaze, floated in a miso-sake broth with shaved ginger, nori, and slivered spring vegetables) appetizer portion = 3 pieces of surprisingly delicious goodness. It wasn't crispy but soaked into the sake broth and the noodles that accompanied it was good as well. Well seasoned and tasty. - angle hair pasta alla caprese with rock shrimp (Fresh peeled garden tomatoes, basil mozzarella cheese and slivered garlic, tossed with extra virgin olive oil) lite portion = again, another surprise... it was tasty and good! The portion was just right... pasta wasn't soggy... shrimp tasted fresh and they were actually big... the mozzarella was a good addition! - pineapple upside down cake (Topped with vanilla bean ice cream, Myers's dark rum sauce and pineapple butterscotch) = we had to get this... since we couldn't get one when we were in Maui. It was ok... kinda dry and burnt... but it was free from the S.O.'s pre-fixed menu... so can't really complain. Overall... good food... good portion... good service... it's really 4.5 stars... I loved Zinc enough to have my wedding reception there two years ago and I still love it. It's my go-to place for great food. I never leave disappointed. I love watching the chefs cook at the bar from above in the mezzanine. I love their wine selection. I adore their specials and their locally grown lamb is my hubby's favorite. ever. Came here with a bunch of guys I met thru A.D. Awesome group. Of course John is in the group. It's always nice to see John! Two bottles of red. A cab and a Syrah. A glass of Riesling for me. I tried to duplicate the Riesling I tried the other night at the other place but it didn't quite match it. I had the special of the night. Seafood Pasta. Awesome choice! Tons of shrimp, fish and sweet dried tomatoes and the right amount of pasta! I was impressed with the overall presentation and taste! The rest of the group ordered lamb and pork. No complains. I really, REALLY, wanted to like Zinc Wine Bar and bistro, trust me. But, I just couldn't do it! Good gracious, where do I begin? My girlfriend and I decided to come here during the last night in New Mexico for her birthday. Those delicious duck confit egg rolls looked too delicious to pass up. However, they were NOT ALL THAT at all! Ughh! Now, before I move on to discuss the bad, let me tell you about the good in the restaurant. Inside is absolutely beautiful and elegant. The ambiance upstairs and downstairs is stunning and the bar in the cellar is terrific! All of the staff were amazingly sweet and really took care of my home girl as it was her birthday. Big shout-out to the wonderful staff (especially the bartender who was expecting a little one) that made us feel so comfortable during our visit here. Now, moving on to the not so good.....unfortunately that would be the food. I mean, it would have been good if it wasn't so damn salty! Why, oh, why is the food so salty here, Zinc? Does your chef or cook really have a heavy hand? OMG! My girlfriend and I ordered the $35 pre-fix meal which consisted of the Crispy Duck Confit Eggroll, Seared Atlantic Sea Scallops with vegetables, and dessert of Bourbon Pecan Pie Jar. So you ask, what was the best part of the meal? The vegetables, and I don't even eat vegetables like that! I mean I was seriously trying to 'pretend' that the food was good, but it was so damn salty that my face just told the whole story. The scallops tasted like the cook 'accidently 'dumped them in a tub of salt! Gross! I'm sorry, I just couldn't do it. Definitely not the way I would want to end my last dinner in New Mexico. A little loud and a little dark, there's not much parking nearby and you have to take some steep stairs down a dark alleyway, but a great place for music. The music provided by the guitar player was not only soothing, it wasnt too loud and I was able to have my meal with some amazing background music! The bartender was attentive and informed about the menu. He allowed me to sample a wine I hadn't tried before so I could make the right decision. The farmhouse breakfast is beyond delicious and the duck confit egg rolls are TO DIE FOR! The manager is super nice and willing to talk with his guest to ensure their experience is a good one. We dined at Zinc during restaurant week, and I took the special menu. Zinc presents a causally elegant, hip but not too fancy, atmosphere. The wine choices are extensive, but they also offer a full bar with many specialty cocktails. My hubby chose the beef tenderloin served with port wine sauce, green beans, and blue cheese mashed potatoes. I took the Alaskan salmon tartare, pan seared branzino, and chocolate truffles for dessert. The salmon tartare was delicious, and it was a huge portion (With avocado, seaweed salad, ponzu soy, sriracha). The branzino (sea bass) was perfectly cooked and was served with crab spanikopita, tomato/olive relish, and a bright lemon sauce. It was seriously good, and I ate the rest for lunch the next day and it was again delicious. Returning to Zinc soon - I hope. read more

It's been a long time since I've been here, and Hilary Smith was playing tonight so we decided to meet friends here in the cellar bar. We used to come every Thursday night for years. My husband and I had one of our first dates here. It was crazy crowded -as it can get, and despite that, the staff was still kind and didn't yell at us for dancing. They still have a great beer and wine selection. My friend was happy with her Moscow mule as well. We got the bowl of truffle fries & the poke bowl. Both were great! We got seats after s short wait and enjoyed dancing to the music the rest of the night. The ladies toilet still leaks and it still gets crowded, but it's so worth it!
