Went here for my graduation lunch with a party of 7 and we all had a great experience. I originally wanted brunch, but we were given lunch menus so I assumed brunch had ended. Then I saw a nearby table order brunch food after I had already ordered, so that may have just been a misunderstanding on my end. I still ended up getting the Roadhouse omelet with fries and a biscuit though, and everything was delicious. Everyone in my family loved their meals, and then... the desserts. The cheesecake was divine, the carrot cake was incredible, and they even gave me a scoop of gelato for my graduation celebration. Overall just a really great experience. Definitely somewhere I'd recommend and come back to try more of the menu. read more

This was our first time but certainly not our last. Wow was it a trip to flavor town! Each of our dishes tasted so amazing! We were walked to the encased patio which gave us views of the snow gently falling as we started our lunch. Pretty and fancy adjacent- like a nice place to dine without feeling stuffy or pretentious. Our server, Nathan was a class act. He was really helpful in explaining the menu while giving some much appreciated tips. He stayed on top of the meal service from start to finish. He was fantastic! The breadventure made us laugh in name, but is so worth exploring. We ordered the large one with several add on sides. The whipped goat cheese, local honey, and pimento cheese were all delicious! I should have asked where the honey came from because it was THAT GOOD! The fried pickles are so seasoned here. Get it with the ranch or the pepper ranch. Those dipping sauces were great too. I had the Pirogies. They were on the specials menu so they are not always available. Divine! The cabbage and onion bed they were sitting on was also quite good but a little salty. Everything was good to perfection. Honestly this was one of the best meals of the trip. Go here- ask for Nathan- get a breadventure and ride the wave of flavor from start to finish. The roadhouse has been refreshed. The food is still delicious! We enjoyed our lunch on the enclosed patio area with waitress Nancy. She made the experience fun. As a former Hoosier, I had to try the Trash Panda on tap, which was good. The shrimp po boy with poutine was just spicy enough. Hubby likes the chicken so it's hard to break a habit . My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our brunch at Zingerman's Roadhouse today. We both got the Country Fried Steak and Eggs, and I was really impressed. The breading on the steak was especially flavorful and very crispy. They used sirloin steak, which was much more tender and delicious than the usual round steak. The gravy was was a bit thicker than I would have liked, but it was delicious. My sunny-side up eggs were cooked perfectly. I would have preferred toast rather than the biscuits that came with the dish. I've never been a fan of their mushy, flavorless biscuits, but the upcharge on substituting toast is ridiculous. The breakfast potatoes were very bland and not crispy. Still I enjoyed the steak enough that I would order this again. read more

We saved the Zingerman Roadhouse for our last meal in Ann Arbor. It was a Monday evening so we got good seats on the covered patio right away. The staff was friendly and helpful and were able to serve the hungry 8 year old right away while the adults made a menu plan. There were so many choices and I wanted to taste a lot including dessert this time. I wanted to taste their Pulled pork sandwich and sides to compare with a favorite place at home in Boulder. But it had a huge order of fries with it and I really cannot have them. Another person in our group who is a regular there ordered a of grits instead of fries, so I did too. The warm mushroom and spinach salad sounded wonderful so we got the large version for the table. It was such a hit for me that I made note of all the ingredients and will attempt to recreate it at home tonight. For dessert, I had the classic cheesecake, a perfect rendition. Every thing I pressed was perfect though such a big meal I chose to eat the pulled pork with a fork in order to indulge in the salad, the grits and the cheesecake. Did you know that Zingerman's roadhouse has happy hour? Oysters for $2 along with drink specials and small bites and for the full roadhouse, not just the bar. This is my second visit for happy hour. First was with someone and we sat in a booth. Service was meh but comfortable in the dining room. Today, at the bar, service is exceptional. The bartender is personable, attentive and polite. The dinner rush hasn't hit yet. It's Tuesday and I could eat here every night. The vibe is comfortable home cooking done well. The oysters were fresh. Chef's choice. I also had the chicken fried mushroom taco that comes in a I'm toasted flour tortilla with elote. To go, I had to order my Ig Vella Mac. Pit smoked chicken with green chiles, roasted corn and cilantro. Perfection! read more

We've been there a couple times now and each time the wait staff are excellent, seated quickly even during the U of M graduation rush, they did a great job. Food wise we have been disappointed though. Fried chicken shin was awesome but the chicken was dry, biscuits and gravy had good tasted but the biscuits were hard. Pulled pork was good and appetizers were ok too. I guess I expected more from the reputation and at that price. Might try again but not sold yet. read more

I've been here a few times and really enjoyed the breakfast food and especially the earl grey tea- it's extra delicious and feels special with the little tray with cream and honey. Breakfast was fresh and simple, pricey but good. I didn't like the seating with the heat lamps, some parts of my skin were too hot, but it was unique. read more

It had been a long time since I had a visit to this location. I decided to choose this place as a meeting spot for brunch. I reserved a spot so I would not have to wait. The parking can be crowded but there are also spots in the back. I was quickly seated on entering. I did not realize they had a bar but good to know for the future. The host offered us drinks and explained the specials and the menu. She also offered recommendations. I decided on the French toast with sausage and sausage. I also got the latte with almond milk. The latte was great. Strong like I like it. The French toast came with 3 thick slices and had a great taste. Too much so I had to take it home. Te sausage patty was good and it had a little spice. It was explained to me that they were freshly made. I am glad I had a chance to check out this place. It is a Michigan staple and I will visit again in the future. read more

This is the best restaurant in Ann Arbor, and has been so recognized in The New York Times. You cannot go wrong here. We go often and always have enjoyed our meals. They have a different blue plate special each day of the week. If anyone has a complaint it is addressed immediately. Zingerman's was a feast for the senses as well as a dinner experience. What I mean by that is this place has a ton of charm and character. You can see it on the walls, you can see it in the service and kitchen staff. It was busy. People were moving. In the chaos it was a pleasant home style hearty meal that was a fun experience. I sat on the stools facing the kitchen. A very fun spot to sit at and watch the cooks go at it. I would guess they excel at Americana food, hearty bbq plates and southern type dishes. I ordered a bbq combo plate to try a variety. The meats were ok, but honestly I loved the greens the most. The menu is massive so makes it a bit challenging to make a decision. Service was fast and friendly. Dishes were a bit overpriced in my opinion, but a decent meal. Definitely a must visit for anyone in 2A. read more

OK! After my third visit here, I've figured it out. Get the smoked meats!! Large menu with a variety of options, and have tried a few different things, but this time we focused on the smoker/BBQ items and they were SO good. That's going to be my go to moving forward for the Roadhouse. The Roadhouse BBQ plate was a great sampler, with pit-smoked pork ribs, BBQ pulled beef, and smoked pulled pork. Came with bacon-braised collard greens and mashed potatoes, though you can swap for any of the sides. We also tried one of the menu specials, which was a Smoked Sirloin. Wow this was stunning. I've never heard of or thought to smoke steak before, but this was incredible. Pretty expensive spot, so don't think we'll put it in the regular rotation, but a great option for when we're feeling like something extra fun! There's a happy hour as well, with discounts on some drinks and food/snacks! read more

This was our second time eating here... the first time was fine, the food was good, and service was pleasant. However, we visited a second time this evening, and we had very unfortunate service; the waitress was very rude, we had to ask multiple times for refills, she walked away halfway through our entree order, was rude when asked specific questions about items on the menu, and just generally cold and unpleasant. While the food was good again, the service was very unfortunate, and I likely won't be visiting again. read more

The service was good. A busy restaurant at lunch with options for most pallets. My coworkers had burgers...the one that had the added bacon said that bacon was very flavorful, definitely add!! Another coworker got the kale salad but said it was OK (it's a salad, hard to put a salad over the top)...and I had the Montreal Reuben with sweet potato fries. Good sandwich without the 1000 island dressing...unique. The sweet potato fries were thick like steak fries and ok...not bad but if they were thinner I'd probably have preferred that. No complaints, but considering how many people told us we had to go, I was building the place up in my head before we got there...but still a good place to eat lunch. read more

Past the hostess stand and the megalomaniacal bookstore of Zingerman-authored gems such as - had to laugh at this one - it's called "Humility" - lies a Mecca of fried American goodness. Super impressed by their menu. I got the fried chicken mac and cheese. The fried chicken alone apparently wasn't enough. They also sprinkle bits of fried chicken crust (not sure what to call it) on top, almost like hillbilly panko breadcrumbs. So delicious. One of our party, Aaron, had an unfortunate incident: a shred of cole slaw touched his steak. But I can safely say I loved it. Go Zingerman, you chef, author, philosopher and theologian! read more

Came here for lunch on a Wednesday for the first time. Tried the fried ribs and pickle salad. The fried rib was interesting, a little too much breading but the meat did fall off the bones which was good. The pickle salad was so unique and I enjoyed it! Zingermans is a bustling locale offering hearty American comfort fare, local draft beers & a gourmet food shop! Stopped in recently while visiting my daughter to try the buttermilk fried chicken and man, it was fantastic!! The chicken was crispy and seasoned well and the spicy coleslaw that accompanied it was delicious! We also ordered the Mac and cheese, Mashed Potatoes with Gravy and a cheese and picked grapes starter. The Mash was delicious and with some extra gravy would have been devoured. The Mac was disappointing and our least favorite. Overall it was a very positive experience. The restaurant is large, offers indoor and outdoor seating. The staff were friendly and very attentive and I loved the daily special options. I would love to go back to try the BBQ on my next visit read more

The food was delicious and arrived in adequate time. Enormous portions that provide you a 2nd or more meal! I ordered the black bean & hominy vegan burger with a side of sweet potato fries. The spicy mayonnaise accompanying the fries is divine. Service was good. Our waitress checked back at opportune times. There was an older silver haired gentleman - super knowledgeable staff member - who passed us several times and always asked if we needed anything. He suggested a barbecue sauce when my husband told him his pulled pork was too spicy. I believe he was one of owners? We came to have celebratory dinner for my husband and my son. Their birthdays are days a part and this is the place they chose. We were, at one point, jamming to a Ray Charles song - perfect for my baby boomer hubby. This locale feels to more a burger, chicken place with American fare specialties. I'm a light fare lady so desire more variety of salads and seafood. We were looking for a good place to eat while we were in town for the NAIA Women's golf nationals. We enjoyed everything so much we returned a 2nd time before we headed home to the west coast. Your staff makes you feel like family, the food is so good. We are big smokers and can taste the hours of smoke the meat has, nice thick flavor and tangy bbq sauce. I also think hubs had an affair with your butterscotch pudding. He got a second helping to go. Not sure if we will be in the area again but if we are, we know where dinner is. read more

We've been here several times and it does not disappoint! Would strongly recommend making a reservation prior to coming -- and when making a reservation, they ask about food allergies! Food -- they always have great specials and I ordered the Bakehouse White French Toast with the real Maple syrup. The toast was gooey, but not overly sweet and the maple syrup added just enough sweetness! My friend ordered the Bailey's French Toast and she's a chocolate-lover and absolutely loved it! I tasted it and preferred the original. If you're a chocolate-lover, go with this one! My husband ordered the Eggs Benedict and the buttermilk biscuits were the star of the show in my opinion -- the poached eggs were pillowy and yummy too! There wasn't a single leftover! Drinks -- the hot chocolate is the real deal here with a fabulous depth of chocolate and milk. I ordered the latte and it was hot with divine toasty notes. Seating -- we sat out on the terrace, with heaters. The fresh air was nice, but even on a cold March day it was plenty warm enough with the heaters and it was quiet (sometimes the "Bill Knapps" room is a bit loud and difficult to carry a conversation). Service -- very Service Dog friendly. The staff were 100% appropriate with her and didn't talk or distract her! read more

This was fun. Literally my friend said we had to visit this place. We were in Detroit and it was my first time there. Somehow we didn't really make the time to enjoy any good food there. He said we had to drive out to Ann Arbor to try out Zingerman's. Okay so it was a little bit out of our way but we made our way out there to do just that. It doesn't look very special from the road and it's kind of in a suburban area but after walking in, I was very surprised! This place had tons of merchandise, a lot of different rooms with people sitting, and overall was just kind of all over the place! The menu was immense! So much to choose from. We did share their bread plate which was so worth it. Came with different spreads for the bread as well. Their cheese curds were also just really amazing. I had just one of the regular burgers which was just top notch overall. My friend had their vegetarian mac and cheese and he was just thoroughly pleased. Overall we could not have had a better experience at this place. Just really amazing food that they put a lot of work into! You will not be disappointed here. read more

We were heading home back from Canada trip and was told to check out this place on the way home to Chicago. Oh boy was this place worth it! They have plenty of private parking and we were able to sit down fairly quickly for a Sunday dinner. When you enter the place you see that there was plenty to tables to sit from private rooms, sun room, the bar, in front of the wait staff area getting people's orders to eating at the bar. Hubby ordered an old fashion and made they made it spot on and it was hella strong l! There was plenty of interesting wall art and poster boards. They also sell Merch - this place is part to a little conglomeration of other family zingermans businesses from a deli, to bakery, to creamery, etc. in this area. We were greeted by our server we called her Ms Tracy, we told her we were new here and she gave us a history of the place and some popular dishes here and why they are so special and how it was made, amazing. We asked for bread and butter for the table. We got slices of their homemade sourdough and rye breads with their homemade butter wow. We ordered their ribeye that came with three sides. We got sautéed spinach, Mac and cheese (we paid extra) and Carolina gold rice. Our family also order ribeye and rice Mac n cheese and roasted squash. The entire dish was excellent so good and flavorful the steak was made median rare so soft and juicy! I would order the steak again, grass fed finished! While we were waiting for our dinner, Ms Tracy our waitress offered us tapas size samples on the house of their famous pulled pork with a little kick flavorful soft and juicy. New Orleans pot roast with grits and cheese, bed was so soft and grits tasted like corn with melted cheese, also russet skinned mashed potatoes with beef gravy...wow wow all was so good! I was also able to order a piece of their buttermilk fried chicken too, if you like black peppery chicken skin it had a bit of a kick and skin was really crunchy. J got the breast but next time I'll stick with the dark meat thigh or drumstick. What we couldn't finish, she put them in containers and love that she put in the date and what is in it! We ended with dessert of fried cherry pie with vanilla gelato and whip cream. It took a few minutes to deep fry the pie, served hot and crispy crust! All our dishes were made from scratch and locally grown meats and vegetables. Overall, What a wonderful experience, I will definitely come back here again if I'm in the area! read more

Visited the area four months ago for work, went here based on the look as I was walking by. Don't entirely remember what I had, but great service and the food was fantastic. Recently came back to the area for work again. This time I was feeling a burger, and though it wasn't the best burger I've had, it was still cooked well and juicy. Final night of the trip and I went back again due to the suggestion of the Rainbow Trout Meunière (spelling could be wrong) and a side of bacon braised collard greens. Housed the meal in what felt like a few minutes. Best meal at a restaurant I've had in a long time. Get the trout, and get a lil whiskey. Don't forget the rhubarb cheesecake if it's on the menu cause holy s***, it was top tier. Each dessert is worth a try. The art is pretty cool too. read more
