This place is truly a gem! Im so happy i stumbled across this place with my girlfriends after being so hungry and tired from a crazy week of work, as soon as i passed by this place, i saw that there was only one table of people , but something about this place seemed very warm and inviting and very welcoming, just the atmosphere is what drew my attention. I wanted a quiet relaxing dinner to catch up with my girls and satisfy my big appetite. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a very friendly gentleman who got us glasses of water and baskets of bread with a hint of garlic ( which was fresh and warm) and some oil and olives to dip. The lights in the place were dim, and the walls had very nice art pieces and gorgeous wooden tables, you could tell they put a lot of thought into decorating it. The menu itself is straightup italian with plenty of popular dishes from fried calamaris and antipasto salad and ceaser salad along with plenty of Pasta dishes like penne ala Vodka or ziti and linguine dishes with chicken or veal, also had a section of raviolis and gnocchi,there was so many options to choose from it took me forever to make a decision. Ugh how could i even forget to mention the last page with all the brick oven pizzas, i definetly was drooling. They had tons of fancy pizza pies from pizza with prosciutto along with margherita pizzas and tomato and basil toppings, and mushrooms, the list goes on. The prices were ridiculously Good too. For the size of Those large pies they ranged from 12-16 dollars depending on how many toppings you got. I choose the arrabiata pie and i was determined to eat that whole pie by myself, it had a spice to it in the sauce and the ham and basil I got on top was cripsy it was perfect. The pie itself is large but its not drowning in cheese and the crust is a bit on the thin side so it doesnt feel so heavy. They of course brought me the spices like crushed red pepper flakes and oregano right away and the pizza had a hint of Garlic already so i didnt even need to put anymore. My girls got chicken ceaser salads which is nothing a person would never rave about on average but they literally ate the whole Salads which were huge with chunks of grated Cheese on top and grilled chicken with great seasoning , they practically licked the plates clean, best part is the food came in 20 Minutes so the wait time shocked me. At the end the bill Came out to 50 bucks for the pie and two salads ( there is a extra charge for chicken in the salads). And we gave a generous tip because the waiters there are super friendly and actually take their jobs seriously . They take both cash or credit and they dont charge tip or gratuity automatically to the bill. Next time i come here my Goal is to try their tasty looking dessert menu ( those tiramisu and panna cottas looked good at the other table) and they got Fancy selections of wines:). My mom, grandma, and aunt all came to visit me in Bay Ridge, from different parts of the east coast. We spent most of our time (and ate most of our meals) in Manhattan, but on the last night of their visit we decided to have dinner in the neighborhood. We walked up third ave a little ways and decided to give Zio Toto a try. As you can probably tell by the five stars, we had a really great time. I am simply amazed by the HORRIBLE service at this place. One would think seeing that there are 5-6 Italian restaurants within a few blocks that each place would go above and beyond to provide good service. We asked the waiter for a check and to pack up some food. i was there with my 85 yr old nana and by baby. The waiter proceeded to the back where about 4 other waiters talked, pointed fingers around, and did nothing. This was ridiculous. My baby needed to get home and these fools there didnt even pay attention. I finally had to walk up to the back to ask someone for the check while they were all laughing at something someone was doing in the back room. Besides the bad service (we also witnesses another customers order get messed up), the food also took almost 25 minutes to come out. I dont understand how these guys stay in business, but next time Ill be going to Leo's Casa instead of this place. This was the 2nd time going to this place ...the 1st time we went for breakfast and the food also took 25 minutes to come out...for some eggs? Come on! My favorite Italian Restaurant! It's close to home, cozy, delicious, and the service is always great! I'm from Cali so I frequently have friends and family visiting and this is the first place I take them to. They all love it! All the food is delish! My favorite is the crab and asparagus risotto and when I am watching the calories its the linguini primavera! It's so light and full of delicious veggies! I add grilled chicken and its the best! My favorite appetizer is the buffalo mozzarella! It's simple but let me tell you that I've been to many Italian restaurants and Zio toto's has the best buffalo mozzarella! It tastes so fresh and light! The tomato is always fresh and flavorful, the prosciutto is great, and you have to love the touch of fresh basil! MMmmmmm! Love it! read more

I used to live around the corner when Zio Toto first opened. One day I went in to buy 2 slices of pizza. The cost was $11! I was going crazy in my mind but I payed for it anyways. I thought " For $11 this pizza better be amazing" Turned out the pizza wasn't as good as all. I haven't been to Zio Toto after that. They had recently moved locations (just across the street) I have no clue if the pizza tastes any better. I don't recommend it read more

Zio Toto is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Brooklyn. Not only do they have an eye opening menu of goodies, but the specials are to die for! My boyfriend and I have been coming here since January of last year. We haven't left this restaurant once ever feeling dissatisfied. It not only has outstanding food, but it provides a cozy environment to bring a hot date! I recommend having the Grilled Octopus if they have it on special. Thanks to a birthday gift certificate, I went this past Saturday with some friends. We didn't have a reservation, but the wait was 15 minutes. We were "wisked" past the kitchen to a lovely outdoor area. Our waiter was very attentive even on a busy night. The food was amazing, hot and delicious. I give this place no stars. It had some of the worst food I ever had in an italian restaurant. The dipping oil for the bread was disgusting and had onion in it which boggled my mind as it tasted awful, the portions were small and the stuffed focaccia pizza was a complete and utter joke. it looked like the chef took 2 round flat breads and threw mozzarella cheese cubes and tomato slices inside of it and called it a day. Zio Toto recently moved locations to right across the street, on the corner of 84th and 3rd ave. I came here with my family for dinner and really enjoyed it. For starters, the service was excellent. Our server knew the specials inside and out and was really knowledgable about the menu. He was also very nice and checked in with us many times. The food is very good. Their bread definitely tops most restaurants and it's hard not to fill up on that alone. We had mushrooms and peppers with balsamic vinaigrette and mozzarella as an appetizer, which were pretty good but had a little too much balsamic. I had the rigatoni with eggplant which was delicious. My mom had the risotto with shrimp and scallops which was amazing- I kind of wish I had gotten that instead. We were too stuffed for dessert, but I'm sure it would have been delicious. This was not my first time eating at Zio Toto. But it was the first time I had one of the worst experiences at a restaurant. I arrived with my son and we heard the "specials" for the night and decided to order one of the appetizer specials, but were unsure of our entree. The server did not let us place our appetizer order until we knew what our entree was going to be because the restaurant was busy. When I asked if everything was going to come out at once he said "maybe because they were busy and couldn't have people sitting all night." A little taken aback, I decided not to order an appetizer. I asked for three different salmon dishes when the server finally told me they were out of salmon. He then offered two different Bronzino dishes, one plain, grilled with a salad and one more appetizing, with a red sauce served with clams and mussels. I chose the second one. When our meal came out I received the plain grilled Bronzino dish with the salad. At first I wasn't going to send it back, but when I questioned it, the server lied and said they didn't have the dish I ordered. When I questioned that response he said "well it will take a long tome to make." Clearly they wanted us to dine and dash, rush and not enjoy our meal. I said that I wouldn't mind waiting for what I ordered and it finally arrived. It was delicious. That's why I gave two stars. During our meal our server didn't not come over once to ask how our meal was. He did come to ask if I wanted another glass of wine and when I said "yes, if it were on the house," he didn't really respond and walked away. 10 mins later he came back with a complimentary glass of wine. I really like the food they serve, but it was a shame we had such a terrible server who clearly was not interested in us being able to enjoy our meal and on top he lied about my dish just to get us to eat and get out. I will never return to this restaurant, because they clearly do not care about their customers having an enjoyable, not rushed meal. They just care about having as many customers as possible. Had my birthday dinner here and might I just say, food was delicious! Ordered the Penne vodka which had pieces of prosciutto in it. Heaven! My brother orders the Lamb chops which came with spinach in a creamy dark sauce, definitely had to have a taste of that it was delicious. My fiancé saw Veal Marsala on the menu & asked the waiter if it was possible to have a veal piccata instead and without hesitation or attitude the waiter said yes. Well, when it comes to food here, it's sort of hit or miss. I've gotten dishes that were really good before- Like this crab and spinach appetizer special, or the gnocchi with pesto. And I've also had the penne alla vodka, and the lemon chicken, which were both very meh.. Service is good, though! And they serve this complimentary bread basket with pizza bread, foccacia and other stuff that's super good. Also, marinated olives in imported italian oil with celery, onion, and garlic. It's so sad, from the outside the place looks great. Inside, its so cramped/tight and not comfortable seating at all. It's unfortunate. My expierence was awful here, and I spent a good amount of money here which I felt sorry about after. It wasn't well spent or worth it. Our waiter was annoying and irritable, and he intterupted us while ordering. How rude and nasty it was. I've seen this place many times and have always wanted to try it, but, boy was that a waste. Gino's in bay ridge is way better and more tasty. Only liked a little bit of my dish, the rest was so bland and dry, and nothing special at all. The first time we visited Zio Toto we were amazed. Such a small, intimate nice restaurant where the waiter treated us like family and the smell of the open coal burning pizza oven made it perfect for a cold winters night. We shared Pizza Con Prosciutto Di Parma & Baby Arugula with prosciutto di parma, baby arugula & shaved parmigiana cheese which was really delicious and then split gnocchi al pesto which was perfectly cooked. It was a perfect meal. However on our second trip, the service was lackluster, we order a cheese plate that looked like it had FoodTown Bologna and cheeses on it and overall the meal was not as superb as the first visit. Because we have faith we will return again and hope that we can rank it higher because it is a really nice spot. read more

I love Zio Toto. It's small and cozy and the waiters are really nice. The food is delicious and prepared with care. I like it much better than the overly flashy faux italian- albanian restaurant areo across the street. Zio Toto never fails to impress me, the chef comes out and asks how your meal is and I have gotten complimentary glasses of wine on the 2 of the 6 occassions I have been there. They always have excellent specials, and try the sangria that has hints of cinammon! Zio Toto is a place not to be missed if youre looking for a delicious dinner without a ton of guys in rhinestone tshirts hanging around the bar pretending theyre in the mob. I recommend it for people who have class and enjoy fine dining. I will repost when I try the pizza, I just havent gotten around to it yet. I have heard good things from friends. :) read more

Worst service experience! The food is always good but tonight was so frustrating. It started with waiting for bread and water for nearly 30 mins before we got to order. We each ordered an appetizer, a glass of wine and an entree. After another thirty minutes more everything came at once... Well almost everything!
