Our car quit working while we were driving through Mt. Vernon. We were referred to Zip Tune from the helpful guys at Napa-Ray's Auto Parts. Zip Tune squeezed us in and we were able to have our car diagnosed and fixed by the next morning. Their rates were reasonable and their work was good. The mechanic that repaired my car was very nice and knowledgeable, I could tell he has worked as a mechanic most of his life. Unfortunately, the day after getting my brakes repaired I had to take my car back in as it wouldn't speed up. The fact that this happened literally the day OF made me question it, as it had cost me more money and time without a car. Three stars only because the mechanic that worked on my car really made sure to get me driving ASAP and notified me every step of the way. Range Rover making strange noises over bumps. The first shop said it needed new CV joints and quoted $2700.00 Brought it in to Zip tune and Jeremy rode with me for five minutes and said he thought he knew what it was. Fifteen minutes later he told me it was a loose tie rod and it was already fixed. N/C! Will be back for an alignment soon. I made an appointment and brought my truck in for king pins. The young man at the counter did not know what king pins were. We walked over to the group of older mechanics sitting in lawn chairs and the young man says this guy brought his truck in for king pins. One of the old guys says we ain't got time to do kingpins. come back in a few months. When dave was there they were great. Do not take your classic car to these jerks! read more

I have a 1973 Ford F-100 that I have had a lot of work done to; rebuilt engine, transmission, etc. the list really goes on and on. The only thing I didn't have worked on was the carburetor. I was having a difficult time keeping it running after a start, had a friend who was an ASE certified mechanic look at it and he saw there was an issue but was baffled with the carburetors behavior. He suggested I get a new one or get a rebuild kit. My uncle suggested to just pick up a rebuilt carb at Auto Zone for $200+ (with core exchange). I've rebuilt carburetors before and it isn't terribly difficult but it is working with a lot a foul chemicals and time consuming. I called Zip Tune and was quoted $90 for the diagnosis, to me that seemed like a lot, so I did a lot of asking around. Everyone I talked to said THE place to go was Zip Tune in Mt. Vernon. It was right across the street from Virg's and I had done business with them before. When I finally had the money to, I decided to take my truck to Zip Tune. I was greeted by Terry who I could tell right away was a very gentle soul and a good listener. I gave him as much information that I could to help him diagnose the problem. I left the truck overnight so they could try the cold start and Terry called me the next morning, explaining that there was a part (40+ years old) that had simply corroded away and he was able to get a kit (right around $14) and remanufacture the part using this kit. He scoped the truck and made the corrections and necessary adjustements to the carburetor, connected missing hoses, then lifted the hood to let it cool. I told him that he could keep it another night just so he could make sure that everything was right after a solid cold start, and he did. The next morning he confirmed that his adjustments were right and the truck was ready to go. The bill for time and parts wound up being right at $150 (with a veterans discount!). A lot less than I would have paid for a rebuilt carburetor, that I would have had to pay someone to adjust for me that also would not include the missing part that Terry remanufactured for my set-up. Now, my truck drives like a DREAM. It's breathing right and starts PERFECTLY as it did when it came off of the factory line over 40 years ago. If you have any tune-up issues with your vehicle, before you take matters into your own hands with what may seem like a less-expensive way to go, take it to Zip Tune and ask Terry what he thinks. read more
