The boxes are great and the staff very friendly, but they seem pretty disorganized. Their website can be confusing and error-prone, like no one bothered to test it out. The driver was an hour and a half late to drop the boxes off, and didn't call until half an hour after he was supposed to be there. Called the 800 number to check up and no one answered (on a Sat to be fair). Turned out he had a different delivery window for me than I had been told. The first time I used them, they had to reschedule the drop-off because their truck was going to be in the shop. Trouble is, they then rescheduled my pickup too without telling me. So the poor driver, who couldn't find my house, kept calling me to pick them up when I wasn't even home. I called her back and the 800 number, left messages which no one seemed to get, so it was kind of a mess. Having said all this, I like that they're a local business, they try hard and are nice, and they're doing good to reduce waste. I will continue to use them, but hope they hire an office manager or something to get organized, buy GPS for the truck, and fix the website. read more

Zippgo was amazing. Great quality crates and EXCELLENT customer service. I made an order online and they delivered the crates on time. I was helped by Ash and she was incredible from start to finish. The customer service was fast and they were super accommodating. The crates made our move go much more smoothly. They're very sturdy and they hold a lot of stuff. They stack well and fit nicely in the car. The only thing is I just wish the box handles weren't so sharp! If it's heavy, it can hurt your hands, especially after a long day of moving them. The pickup didn't go so well. I'll spare you the details, but the important thing is they handled it really well, and again, just really accommodating and helpful all around. Made moving 1million times less heinous. I realized after using zippgo that half the reason I hate moving so much is the awful process of finding/buying boxes, building them, and then having to break them all down and have your new apt. cluttered with 50 awkward and cumbersome pieces of cardboard that you then have to figure out how to get rid of on top of organizing all of your belongings. Zippgo boxes were fast, easy and convenient. Not much more expensive than buying boxes, and worth every extra cent and then some. Oh and they are better for the environment apparently. read more

Wow! What a difference Zippgo makes when you make a move. No boxes to buy or dispose of or, even, store. They bring clean, large, easy-to-pack bins to your home and come to the new place and pick them up. And the prices are great! We just moved and since I have taken my consulting firm green, it was important that I act on that commitment in this area, too. Zippgo allowed me to do that very easily. Zippgo is awesome! We used them to move from a 1BR to a 1BR within SF recently (the Studio package was enough for us but we weren't moving far so lots of stuff was able to be moved without boxes). They were on time with pickup and delivery, and I was SO HAPPY not to have to buy and then throw away a bunch of boxes. Knowing someone is coming to pick up the crates also forces you to unpack and get organized right away, which was a nice forcing function for a lazy person like me :) Highly recommend! read more

I actually moved a few months ago but I had to come to Yelp and write up what a great experience I had with this service! First of all, Ash the owner was so great to work with. He was regularly available to answer all of my questions, and he was really good about keeping in contact with me about when they were going to deliver and pick up the boxes. The boxes themselves were very easy to use and I think they helped my move go much faster. Plus it forced me to unpack and not leave boxes lying around my house for weeks! I had several other friends who moved around the same time as me and they were having issues trying to get rid of all the cardboard boxes. Not me!I I just piled up the empty boxes in my living room and they came and took them away. One other thing I would like to mention - the boxes themselves were very clean when I got them. Not sure if they clean them in between each move, but I have to say I was very impressed. If I ever move again (and I hope not for a long time) I will definitely be using them again! read more

Excellent service. Drop off of plastic moving crates was ideal - it allowed me to easily pack up and stay organized in my packing. The boxes easily stack when empty - so not a huge pile of boxes/tape everywhere. And they also stack very well when packed - a bonus as you are still attempting to move around your home. The movers loved them (and it certainly shaved time off the move). Unpacking was a breeze as you just unpacked one box and nearly stacked it in a corner somewhere. And if you are someone that delays in unpacking, this is good incentive - you know you have to return the boxes on a specific date. So that sped up my settling into my new place. read more

Zippgo was recommended to us by a friend, and we were happy to use plastic boxes scheduled to disappear as soon as we emptied them. Overall the service was exactly as efficient and easy as advertised. We used every box and should've asked for twice as much packing paper as we got. Our delivery of boxes came very early in the morning, and I was embarrassed by the amount of noise made during the delivery process to our still-sleeping apartment building. I purchased a deal on HomeRun. The deal failed to disclose that cities north of San Rafael were not included in the delivery area. The owner wanted to charge me $29 to Novato and $79 to Petaluma. He was nice enough to try to help me but he never seemed to get the fact that the failure to disclose this fact was the issue. The concept is wonderful but the company needs to clean up the details. Based on the owner's response, I must again comment. He DID offer me me "free" 3-weeks extra for packing the boxes. Cool. First, I did not ask for this-I am going on an environmental trip to Ecuador for 2.5 weeks, and I simply pointed that fact out to him. It costs nothing to ZippGo to rent their boxes for additional time unless they have so few boxes that they have to get them back into circulation quickly. The 3-weeks-freeis a specious charge. I paid $49 intending to receive the service that was advertised. The fact that ZippGo's service area excluded my moving cities was NOT disclosed in the HomeRun ad. Owner, fess up-your company screwed up. You have a great idea, but don't gouge me because of your errors. (one half star) The owner just wrote me to tell me I should have checked his website and I would have found the list of cities. I wonder if you agree. I have bought many offers on social networking sites; they all have TOO much information. A company that advertises itself as doing business in the "Bay Area" should explain that fact if it's not true. Don't buy from this dude; he's not honest or forthright. Read this (from the owner) : Hi Jim, I re-read the Homerun deal we offered and on the bottom of the page there is a link that says "Click to read our standard rules". If you click this link you will see a list of "General Rules". If you skip to the last bullet point in the list, it reads: "All offers are subject to the featured merchant's standard terms and conditions" Our standard terms and conditions include the delivery areas we cover in our packages which as you know from looking at our site do not include Novato or Petaluma." On a scale of 1-5 stars, Zippgo is a SIX! (unfortunately that's not an option, so we'll stick with what we've got for the moment...). I loved *everything* about my experience with this company. I found them (here on yelp) when I was looking for a moving company. After almost 14 years in the same rental unit we finally bought a place and had to move quickly as our kids would be starting school. We had years of things to pack and not much time to do it in. I compared pricing online for Zippgo and a used cardboard box reseller. The pricing was not very far off, and that wasn't including incremental costs of rolls of packing tape and tape dispensers that I wouldn't need with Zippgo. This is - amazingly - a two man company. Ash called to confirm my delivery time. Eddie arrived and had everything unloaded and explained super quickly. The bins are sturdy and protected our belongings really well. The zip ties were easy to use and along with the labels, made it super convenient. Their faux "bubble wrap" was excellent. Outside of my not being able to sit around popping bubbles, I think Zippgo's version is pre. I love that the bins stack uniformly and our movers commented that it's better for the contents and always way easier to load the truck with Zippgo bins than cardboard boxes. I feel that it definitely helped to shave some time off of the move, which was great as it's not a flat rate job. I also loved that I had a deadline to meet for unpacking with only a week left before pickup by the time we moved. We did have some cardboard boxes, and for the most part they are all still hanging around more than 10 days post move. All but 6 of the Zippgos were unpacked within 2 days of moving in. Eddie came and quickly scooted everything away and now there is no need for us to figure out how to get rid of mountains of cardboard, tape and plastic. read more

Zippgo is a truly green company that practices what it preaches. The boxes are a little pricey - and a smaller size would be helpful for books etc. - but they are sturdy, spacious, close up by themselves and stack together in the truck, no slip or slide! The delivery guy came right on time for drop off and pick up and was nice to boot. Plus, the rental period means you have serious motivation to un-pack! Skip the plastic ties (unrecyclable and painful to remove) and the paper packaging add-ons (expensive) but the boxes are a winner. Overall, a great experience. Thank you Zippgo! read more

This service is Necessary!!! We have so much stuff in a one bedroom apartment and ordered 25 boxes plus a couple of wardrobe boxes, managed to fill 22 in one day. Still have a bunch to pack but the large size boxes are great for anything and everything, no crazy amounts of tape needed and I am positive that nothing will get smushed. We moved from San Francisco to Oakland and used a combination of boxes and ZippGo crates. The ZippGo crates were great- they come in a couple of different sizes, and they were clean and dry. Everything we packed in the ZippGo boxes made it safely to our new house. Because they're so sturdy, it minimized the use of packing material, and now I don't have a ton of leftover boxes. So I would say that it's definitely worth it- and you'll be surpised how many you end up using! read more

I am doing a big move (California to Bermuda!) and I needed some sturdy boxes for my fragile things . Sometimes cardboard doesn't quite cut it, they get dirty, break or rip, and more annoyingly often things turn up broken (I've moved a lot UK to USA, USA to Spain so I am a seasoned mover!) so I ordered 20 of these plastic boxes. They are AMAZING! Best packing boxes ever!! Super sturdy AND because my stuff has to go into a container it has to be stacked onto a pallet...they stack amazing!! After I did one batch they looked so good and all my things are so secure, I went and ordered 20 more for the rest of my things (clothes etc) that I was going to use cardboard for. This would be the same if you were hiring a van or something they stack so well you actually save space. Both times I contacted the company on a Sunday evening and the boxes were at my front door on Monday. They even did a deal for me because I brought so many. The delivery driver brought them right into my living room and even offered to put half of them in other rooms if I needed him to carry them, so sweet. What is best is that these are going to last me such a long time, for all my future moves! Also in between moves they just stack inside one another and that's it, they can go in the garage or something. No bugs, no worrying about dampness and if they get dirty they can be wiped clean. Moving SUCKS. No matter what. So anything that will make it easier is, in my book, a godsend. I didn't realize how great of an idea this was until I actually used it. Not only is the company green and you can rest assured that you are doing the *right* thing, but these boxes and this service is just so much easier than the alternatives. No need to scavenge supermarkets for boxes or buy and make dozens upon dozens... the boxes just arrive at your door, simple as that. Then when you're done... no breaking down boxes, no trips to the dumpster down the street (illegal yes) or recycling plant. Additionally, the boxes are sturdy and strong. You're not going to damage your stuff when you stack them up and move them around. All of them have built in handles, and are perfectly sized that you can fit a good deal in them, but can still easily carry and hold them. When you're done filling, you just close the lid and use the zipties (included) to secure it. Way easier than taping up boxes. Ash also includes plenty of labels to stick on the boxes to keep track of your stuff. Thumbs up. read more

Just finished our move and can not emphasize how much we loved using the Zippgo Moving Boxes. We ordered 100 boxes and appreciated how solid and clean they were! The delivery guy was even nice enough to take some upstairs for me as well as leaving stacks of them downstairs. The boxes hold more than the traditional cardboard moving boxes and are so much easier to stack. I had zero damage to my items moved in these boxes because the boxes were able to hold more weight without risk of collapsing when stacked! We also did not need to hastle with packaging tape as we would have with traditional cardboard boxes. Love that they disinfect the boxes after picking up! The owner, Ash, was so helpful and flexible. We would reccomend his services anytime! The next best part is that since we've "rented" these boxes, we have a firm date set for Zippgo to come pick them up. This is a great motivation in getting everything unpacked quickly. I know lots of people who have boxes lying around 6 months after the move, but we'll have everything unpacked within the next few days. More effort now, but worth it! Might use again. Communication was sketchy...they don not answer phones, only return calls. Keep in mind that these boxes are heavier than cardboard so while it's more convenient to not have to build and break down cardboard, you will be adding more weight to your lifting; if you hire movers that won't matter much to you. I used dollys to stack and push the boxes but they did have to be lifted off and on the stacks and I wished I had worn leather gloves because the weight and the blunt-edged handles made for a box I wouldn't want to carry any substantial distance. I did feel good about not having any killed trees- though when considering the transporting of the boxes to and from my houses, I don't know that my resulting carbon footprint was actually reduced. read more

Just used ZippGo for an office move and I will never use any other moving products again. Enviro friendly, didn't have to waste a ton of cardboard boxes, super easy to work with, great guys, on time, and great price. They were really flexible and worked around our schedules, extremely responsive, and professional. The best part though is that since you have a pickup date, it forces you to unpack in a short amount of time. I was moving out of a studio in SF and went with their studio package (the smallest one) and also got the wardrobe box, dolly, and packing paper. If I were to do it again, I would probably go with the 1 bedroom package and no wardrobe box. The dolly and packing paper are definitely worth it, and be sure to get the bubble wrap too. I have never heard of this service before, but it came up on a moving company web site. It is genius! No getting rid of cardboard boxes. You can even order recyclable packing supplies which is fan freaking tastic. I am not an environmental freak, but I do like to recycle and try to do my part. I packed family china in these with the paper replacement for bubble wrap and just news paper and nothing broke because there is no pressure pushing against the sides of the box. They stack high and can be carried out in mass quantity. Movers love these boxes, they are easy to move and pack in the truck. It makes things move quicker. Also my forgetful husband left a box in our old apartment and that involves a 45 minute drive each way down from our new place. They didn't charge us extra and they picked up the box from my work. Renting moving boxes is probably the most SF thing I've ever heard - but it's worth every penny. Zippgo saved us on the cost of movers ($120/hour in SF) as the boxes were easy to stack & transport, saved us from the hassle of picking up & assembling cardboard boxes, and not one thing in an entire apartment move broke.
