We eat here nearly once a week. Tonight (a Saturday evening) we were there at about 7pm; it was nearly packed but we had only a very brief wait. The food always ranges from good-to-great, but the best part for us is the waiter we usually get because we ASK for his section. I don't know his name but he is normally the only male waiter. More importantly, he is fast, considerate, attentive, impeccably groomed, and a problem solver. He may now be his shift supervisor because it seems all the other waiters come to him for help and guidance. Frankly, he seems to run the place (as he is clearly capable of doing). He is on top of his tables and never breaks a sweat keeping the pace. He knows the menu and daily specials like his own name. For all those reasons, 5 stars; 4 stars generally for the local food experience. No offense to Zippy's, but he could easily move up in the food service industry to a finer dining environment. Terrible ,Terrible , TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I work nights and get off around 2:30am weekdays. I used to come here months ago for breakfast cause it's convenient on my way home, and I stopped coming here because the service was slow from the order takers and to the cooks. So I started to go to the Piikoi and King St location, which their service is much better, faster, and friendlier than McCully's location. Tonight I passed the King street location and at the last minute decided I wanted to grab take out and was already too far up the road so thought why not give the McCully location another try since I was almost there. I walk in and there was a few people in the dining area and no one but myself at the order counter. I walk in and the girl behind the counter (Pacific Islander/Micronesian looking) just stares at me. No greeting etc.. but that didn't bother me, so I looked at the menu for a few minutes. Meanwhile I'm still the only person there. I make eye contact with the girl and I nodded to let her know I was ready to order and she gives me a weird look and turns away and walks behind the baked goods case and started to fold boxes or something. After a few minutes I walked over to get her attention and she ignores me. I'm thinking like WTF?!?! I thought okay let me go back by the order register and wait a bit. I wait several minutes longer and this woman (another customer) walks in, goes straight to where the girl was standing with her back facing us. The woman asked if she could place an order and the girl tells her to go to the order register and that she'd be right there in a minute. The girl then comes over and takes the woman's order!! HELLOOOOO I was there for 5 minutes, all alone, waiting like a fool and she takes the woman's order first!!! Management needs to train their employees on customer service and with a greeting at least and then whichever customers were standing in line first gets priority. This was total BS!! Only two customers in the order area at 3:00a.m. I walked out feeling disgusted and left. Wow!! Zippys McCully just lost a good customer. Will not return to this location. Why oh why do I keep coming to this location?! This time we went into the resturant because of our bad experience with the fast food side. Please tell me why it is okay for a waitress to almost refuse to take a wrong order back?! Never in my life while dining out the waitress argues that the customer was the one that was wrong and almost refused to take the food back. YES! we waited a long time for our food and I clearly heard my friend order her breakfast omelette with the waitress repeating the order back, when the food came out and it was wrong we notified the waitress of the error immediately, at first she took the plate and then half way she stopped and turned around and walked back to our table with the plate and tried to give my friend back the plate and told her that the order was correct and that we were wrong, like what?! Good thing my friend stood her ground and told the waitress the order was wrong and when I told my friend to ask for the manager the waitress stopped and said okay I'll make new one. PFFT! I also ordered the complete meal for my food, and now that I think about it I didn't get any salad or soup, and wasn't offered any dessert, wow I feel ripped off now. When we came here it was 2 AM so I really wasn't paying attention. Now I'm really upset. One last thing that the waitress did, we ordered a chocolate shake at the beginning and towards the end of our eating the waitress asks if we still want the milkshake. Like DUH we ordered it, and when we finally recieved it, it was like nesquick chocolate milk. I don't understand the prices they charge for the shakes and It turns into a chocolate milk?! Seriously WORST LOCATION ever !!! Rude employees who lack basic customer service, who is Zippys employing ? I never have this problem at the other locations, just this one! Love this Zippy's. It's a great place to dine in and the staff there are always pleasant and kind. I'm thankful for a quiet place to hide. The drive in is great for when I call in an order for my sons potlucks after practice. Easy Peasy! It's convenient and quick. Actually have them on my favorites speed dial now. read more

They really do an outstanding job of training their workers in customer service here. The people working the counter are exceptionally professional and courteous. It really is a pleasure to served by people who take pride in doing a good job. And the fact that they are always consistent in their service is even more impressive. I like to help out local businesses, and your word should be good. I bought 2 veggie chili and got 2 hamburger curry. Marketing said they would mail $10 certificate and after 2 weeks still waiting. I love Zippy's and usually go to the Waipahu or Nimitz locations. This was my first time in many years to McCully. All Zippy's not created equal! The service was so slow and for what appeared to be for no reason at all. People were waiting and waiting and getting upset! My advice is to avoid this location if you are looking for fast service. I used to go to this Zippys a lot as a kid, I went to the bakery for the first time in a few years and was not happy. I was waiting in line as the cashier, her name said $en (written exactly like that on her name tag) asked the man in front of me 3 times if he paid for his purchase, while he was still putting his purchase in his bag she was already asking me what I wanted. I told her I wanted the last Dobash cake that was in the case and she took it out and was about to box it up. I asked her if she could write on it and she repeated what I said weirdly and wrote on it. She never showed me what the cake looked like before boxing it like most Zippys restaurants do, she was clearly rushing. The writing looks as if a child wrote on it, I could've done a better job writing on it myself, oh! and did I mention she removed the cherry? A dobash cake ain't a dobash cake without the cherry. Place is super easy to find parking but the inside is eh. Not a lot of room to sit down and eat so this place is best for pick up only. The menu along with the bakery selection has tons of different options. Be prepared as you can't get a refill on your drinks. The customer service cashier who was helping us was nice and understanding since I was debating on which item to purchase. I ended up ordering the breakfast bento which you can't go wrong with that! read more

Slowest zippys ever....food took 30 minutes for to go...room is full of people waiting and everyone looks mad!

After being under the weather today I was feeling better and wanted to eat Zippys. Live in Manoa and this is the nearest Zippys. We waited 10 minutes to be seated while visually there were at least 4 tables open. Assumed they were busy because we only saw Eddy the host and another server. We were seated and Eddy said thank you for waiting, so busy tonight because earlier shift was done...... But the manager is assisting. Got water and menu and waited about 15 min before anyone approached us. Now I understand busy because my background is in banking and I understand that scheduling happens. Why I am rating this a 1 star before even tasting the food is because the service coming up ruined my entire experience. After waiting 15 min the server Kevin says in a very un- caring way " are you ready for me to take my order"? No thank you so much for waiting, no we are so busy and we appreciate your patience, nothing! We ordered and that was it. The food is always good here and they bust their ass always, but tonight and the service experienced with Kevin was dissatisfying and made this experience tasteless. Very poor quality for served food. I ordered a chili burrito at 10:41pm on Thursday, January 11, 2018. When I received the burrito I cut into it, took a bite and it was barely warm. I returned it and a new one was made. T his new one when I cut into it and took a bite was just warm to the touch and not hot at all. I know the food service industry is to follow strict guidelines for heating temperatures of foods being served. Your night staff should be retrained before someone gets sick or food poisoning. We used to patronize Zippy's (all locations) but their prices have been increasing exponentially. What makes it worse is, the portions have "decreased". So with rising prices and decrease in meal portions, we have stopped patronizing Zippy's. We now frequent Like Like Drive Inn on Keeaumoku Street and Tanaka Saimin on Nimitz. First time trying zippy's out and it's really nothing special about this place besides it being opened 24hr's. I ordered the mini loco moco, mini garlic chicken, child cheese fries, and spam masubis. First off the loco moco was better than expected, and the garlic chicken was disappointing especially their macaroni salad.. never had sour Mac salad before! Horrible! Horrible! Horrible service!! Do not dine here unless you enjoy being treated like crap!! When we walked into the restaurant there wasn't an employee in sight. No hostess. No bus boy. No waitstaff and almost every table had customers sitting with no menus, utensils, food or water even. We should have turned around and left at that point but instead we waited 30 minutes for anyone to even greet us at the table (the only reason we did get attention is because another customer approached a waiter to ask for some utensils and was kind enough to say, "and I don't think anyone has helped those people over there yet") and then, when the waiter finally showed up, he just stood there with a pad and pen in his hand glaring at us. No greeting. No apology for making us wait. No question as to what we would like to order. Awful experience! I love me some Zippy's chili once in awhile but if this is how they treat their patrons? The next time I get a hankering for some chili I think I'll just pick some up from the frozen section at Times across the street. read more

Waited 20 mins for my benefit meat sauce (the spaghetti sauce -COLD) . Hello sistah I could've made Spaghetti at HOME DURING THAT TIME FRAME LOL!!!!! I actually walked across the street to Times to buy some groceries and walked back the FINALLY I see my meat sauce on the counter. Gonna be honest , I'm not sure how their ticketing/sales system works but the orders are not first come first serve. I was number 470 and order number 475, 473 got their orders FIRST. And why is it that quality control is so weird across all the Zippy's? I go to Zippy's Nimitz, and the portions are larger and better tasting. I usually order the Chili and Fried Chicken Mixed Plate with no beans from here. It is really good but the chicken can be inconsistent, the chicken could be nice and moist in the middle some days and other days, it would be dry and brown in the middle. They would also mess up my phone order where I would say to not add any beans and I would find out that they did put beans when I got home. Other than its open 24 hrs, I can't think of anything particular good about this chain. There is a variety of local foods, which, by their version, unfortunately, are rather fattening. The Katsu Chicken turned out twice for me to be just fried chicken skin pretty much plus gravy. Wasn't much real chicken meat. ZipPac was like a pack of meat, including spam. Their omelets are not bad, and starts early around midnight. Their sundaes are good, but perhaps over priced. After a few times at different locations, I never went back again. read more
