The Brewers tied in Cincinnati. The US men's national team handling Bosnia. Basically every screen in the place was must-watch TV and the bartender -- understandably distracted, perhaps -- decided that was the ideal moment to restock straws and cut fruit. We waited. In the heat. Our server was genuinely good when he materialized, which wasn't as often as we'd have liked. Food: the cheese curds earned their reputation. The Mekts burger was fine -- solid, no complaints. The Reuben rolls, however, arrived looking exactly like what they were: a Sysco product plated with minimal ceremony. Hard pass next time. As for the name -- if you're picturing a dock, pilings, maybe a gull or two -- walk outside and squint hard past the road and the rooftops. Big lake's out there somewhere. Technically. Maybe a 3.2 night in a 4.3 restaurant. I'd go back on a slow Tuesday in October.

The restaurant is quite spacious and located on the second level of the building. There are options to sit inside, outside but covered, or outside. The marina and Lake Michigan add the experience with great views from the deck area. Our server was very nice. She was super attentive, and we really appreciated her checking back in for refills, napkins, etc. The food was actually the highlight of my experience. I got the garlic shrimp skewers which came with a Hawaiian roll, Cole slaw and a side (I chose a baked potato). My partner got the prime rib dip with hush puppies. Didn't have a chance to take a pic of the cheese curds before they were devoured! Only downside is the place is VERY noisy. Everytime someone who move a chair, the scraping sound was otherworldly. They are metal chairs on a concrete/gravel flooring. Not ideal. And waitstaff was constantly dropping things and running into each other or the chairs/tables. That was a bit chaotic. However, the food was great and so were the views. They also have live music (they had wrapped up before we got there today). I'd definitely come back (maybe sit inside near an area where you can look out on the lake).

This place gets packed, but the process of holding a spot in line makes it so easy. The staff were so so sweet and accommodating. They were so good with our toddler. I love how this spot focuses on local eats, made from scratch-- the use of olive oil on a lot of their dishes was a huge plus. I got the surf and Turk breakfast plate with eggs whites and potatoes. This dish was SO good. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. The shrimp were super flavorful with garlic. I love their breakfast potatoes, very crispy and so tasteful. My daughter got the mini pancakes, which were technically just regular sized pancakes and she loved them! They had an amazing vanilla flavor. The next person got a meaty omelet that was HUGE and he ate it so quickly. The side of pork sausage links were a fan favorite. Lastly, the next person got the Grandmas Benedict which was so tasty! I love that they used biscuits as the bottom vs English muffin. Highly recommend this spot. It's a family favorite!!

I decided to try something different and got the special Spanikopiomlette. Very disappointed! I have never had their omelettes before but it was really overcooked. Not fluffy at all! It was supposed to have feta in it and I could not taste the feta at all and the sauce on top was almost flavorless. It definitely looked better than it tasted. My son's eggs were also overcooked. The pancakes were delicious and my friend enjoyed her meal as well. It was really the eggs. I would usually say something bit I was with a friend and we were having a good time. Hotel Verdant was the perfect place for my family and I to stay during our visit to Milwaukee!…read more We picked a standard room with 2 queen beds, but it was much nicer than I expected! The room was spacious with plenty of counter space and charging ports, and the restroom was restocked daily with complimentary toiletries. I feel like I can never get a good night's sleep when I'm say sleeping on a hotel bed, but I slept like a baby in my bed at Hotel Verdant! The sheets felt so luxurious and comfortable, and while I usually need to stack the pillows in hotel beds, one pillow was plenty of support for me here. I also appreciated that the housekeeping service actually did come freshen up our room (make the beds, replace the towels, etc) every day during our stay, which doesn't usually happen at the other hotels I've stayed at recently. I didn't love that there is no attached parking garage/lot for the hotel, and instead you have to lug all your luggage across the street to the lot that is shared with two restaurants. My reason for giving Hotel Verdant 4 stars instead of 5 is because the bathroom door did not close all the way in my room, which was very inconvenient, and one of the coffee mugs in my room was very obviously dirty upon my arrival (there were drips of coffee still in it). However, neither of those issues are total dealbreakers, and I do see myself staying at Hotel Verdant if I'm ever in that area again!

The linens...holy cow...top notch. And the bed - so comfy that I didn't want to get out of it! Love it that they provide a large, sealed, reusable, glass carafe of water. And, a really cool water pot to heat for tea. Ingenious! My one star knock is for 2 reasons: 1) I spaced packing q-tips and called the front desk for some. They didn't have any, which was sort of a shock...most hotels have an "emergency" kit or a small gift kiosk offering simple items that are easily forgotten by travelers. 2) My room faced a parking lot which wasn't a big deal, however they were doing some kind of demolition that began around 6:30a. The next morning, the young man who checked me out kindly let me know that next time I can request a quiet room to avoid the noise. A great tip! Neither 1 nor 2 is a deal breaker. Be sure to support this LOCAL GEM!
