You know last week Wednesday I was hungry... And I'm not just talking about regular hunger. I was fatboy hungry...You know...because I'm chunky lol.. So I went on Google to see what was close by and this place popped up and the pictures look delish. So I was like you know what I wouldn't mind some Mediterranean food. When I walked in I was greeted by a big guy. just like myself and he was real polite and he told me what he had available today because he had been pretty busy and some items were sold out. I went ahead and I got the gyro sandwich but instead of feta cheese, I got provell cheese. Then I decided to order some wings as well and he was like are you sure? Because the sandwich is really big so I was like yeah I'm sure. So I waited about 10 minutes and then the food came out and he showed me the sandwich and it was the size of the styrofoam container inside of it. It was huge and the wings looked great. I asked him to fry them soft for me and he did cus hard fried wings are just not good...and he agreed with me and that's when I knew I was going to keep coming here because me and this guy are on the same page. All in all I had a good experience and it's a nice size place so you can sit down and eat if you like or you can take it to go like I did. The food was good. The wings were good. The sandwich was so huge. I just cut it into four pieces and I ate half of it that day and the other half the next day. Great experience. read more

Not sure where to start, pretty much over the moon on this place. It was mid-morning and my wife were hungry for something more than typical breakfast fare, so I got on yelp and did a little searching and much to my surprise Zito's showed up and being familiar with area I didn't know it existed. Gave them a quick call to make sure they were open and the owner picked up on the first ring, so off we went. We were met by the owner upon walking in and he was immediately helpful and happy, already a great start, with the immediate recommendation of Doner Gyro because it's made with their house made bread. I actually went with intention of getting some the Eastern European fare like the Cevapi or Pljeskavica, but was easily talked into the gyro. It was absolutely epic, wouldn't change a single thing, perfect flavors and huge!! See pics. As I eluded to they also serve the Eastern European fare and they had the different pie like spinach, cheese and meat. My wife chose to take home the spinach and it was also spot-on and perfect. The owner mentioned that they might relocate to our home town and I would be ecstatic if this comes to pass. Truly a great experience, not to mention the surprise loaf of bread the owner gave us with our spinach pie. We will be back often and if you relocate probably be the weekly. read more

Little hole in the wall strip mall place off Lemay Ferry tucked behind Starbucks.; big flavor and value. Perfect loaded gyros and doner kabab with lots of meat, outrageously fresh and fluffy housebaked breads and rolls. You can also just buy a loaf right at the counter. The tzatziki sauce and feta are so fresh and tasty, too! " Whole 'notha level" Mediterranean here. Wow, what a fantastic Doner Gyro! That bread is phenomenal. Baked perfectly soft and airy on the inside with a slight chew and the outside browned and just a bit crispy... just perfection. This sandwich was bigger than my head, no lie! I ate half of that monster, stuffed to spilling out with delicious sliced gyro meat, fresh tomato, red onion, lettuce, tzaziki, and feta. Mmmmmm mmmmmm goooooood! I ate the other half for dinner (it held up just fine in the fridge and I left it on the counter to eat at room temperature). This is a no-frills, "Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives" type of place, where you order Bosnian specialties at the counter, grab your beverage of choice from a refrigerator case, and find a clean table. My table and chair needed a swipe of my napkin to clean them of crumbs, but otherwise, the placed appeared clean. When my sandwich was ready, it was brought to my table. I was the only person in the place speaking English (good sign of authentic food!), during my late lunch, but I was made to feel very welcome. I am bringing a group of foodie friends back here soon! Solid place for a gyro, the best one I've had in the greater Saint Louis area. Gyro is well priced and absolutely packed with well seasoned meat. Only complaints would be the meat could be a little hotter (temperature) and that the hours of the restaurant really vary. I went another time when they should have been open based on the posted hours but it was closed. Suggest calling ahead of time to ensure they're open. Excellent gyro and doner sandwiches with generous amounts of meat, cheese, fries, and sauce. Fries were hot and crisp and portion was huge. Service was over-the-top and eat-in area was clean and airy. Looking forward to trying other many items during a future visit. Only minor disappointment was the pita bread. Definitely try this place if you never have, it's incredible. Very spacious and clean inside, tables are spaced far apart and the seats were really comfy, both chair and booth options. OK, guys...this is the spot! My husband got the Philly cheese. He reports it's the best he's had in StL. I got the gyro. I'm a gyro fanatic and I LOVED it! Both of our choices fed us for two meals. We cldnt get over how much meat there was...esp w this ridiculous inflation! We were lucky to meet 'THE' Zito and he seems like a grt guy. This place is serves HUGE portions. The Donor Gyro can easily feed two. I ordered the donor gyro and the classic burger with cheese called Pljack-something. Those two can feed a family of 4 or 5. Taste was delicious and it nice and fresh. Next time I probably need to order just the lunch special. read more

For background, I grew up between two Greek families, both of whom ran restaurants and the next neighbor was Croatian. I ate well - and I ate authentic Greek fare and mediterranean food not knowing how lucky I was. My luck has just come back. Zito has THE best Gyros in town. You cannot finish the Gyro plate unless you are on the competitive eating tour. Loaded with meat, tzatziki and onions, this is a MEAL and would make my old neighbors proud. Added twist - they also have a Doner kabob sandwich! Turkish/German twist on the Gyro is also outstanding. It's a trek for me to get to Zito's, but looking forward to getting back to try the Croatian Raznjici and Cevapi. If you're down their way, you definitely need to stop in. WOW, what a Philly cheesesteak sandwich I had... this thing was ginormous over, stuffed with deliciously, seasoned peppers, onions, and beef, but one was so amazing and somethings so not found anymore are huge portions, more than fair price and an owner who takes real pride in his restaurant, he's a gem!
