The owners have cared about this place and it shows; live music a couple times a week...piano bar.... disco ball (now when was the last time you saw one of those!!) I really like Zizzo's. Everytime I go in there, I feel welcome and relaxed. The interior is sparkling clean all the time and has a cozy feel. The baristas/cashiers are always really friendly, and the coffee is always good! They have 4 or 5 different types of regular drip coffee to chose from, which is nice. the place is pretty small with about 4 small tables and 2 counter top areas. not ideal for studying, but it worked out fine. they also have an outdoor seating area, which is nice since santa cruz doesn't have a lot of those around. its a lot nicer coffee shop than starbucks and the abbey. the bathroom is spacious and super clean! as far as the drink menu goes, the drinks are a little more expensive than usual. however, theres soo many choices to choose from and they're very different from the typical latte, americano, mocha menu. the pb mocha is sooo delicious! its literally like drinking a liquid form of peanut butter with a hint of chocolate and coffee. the chai is very different from the other ones ive had. my friend described it with a hint of pumpkin pie. its not the typical spicy chai that you buy from the store or from other coffee shops. its on the sweet side with a nice different, yet interesting taste. it's hard to pinpoint what that taste is, but its definitively really good! they also have a reward card system going on. i believe its buy 10 drinks, get 1 free. read more

Zizzo's wine bar is my new favorite place to go to enjoy amazing live music, awesome ambiance (they have a huge 3' mirror ball hanging on the ceiling that truly adds to the fun, romantic environment), the people (I absolutely love Aaron and Christine, the owners! Wonderful people!), and the delicious good and libations! The convenient location, just across from the Capitola Mall, provides ample parking as well. I highly recommend Zizzo's wine bar. I ordered a couple bacon breakfast burritos to go and they are small but for $5.75 a piece I thought they must be good. I was wrong. I got charged for the bacon but when I got home there was no bacon. They are not fresh because they freeze them and are probably the worst quality of ingredients you could put in to one. $12 straight in to the trash read more

The owner was serving when we went in and he was very rude and told me off for asking for a cup of ice with my hot tea.I told him I'd be glad to pay for it, and he still acted like a major jackass. Horrible experience at this place. My folks were invited to hear an acquaintance do a performance here. My elderly parents, in their 90s, were very excited, but obviously a bit of a challenge at their age to attend something like this, so we went an hour early. They had been looking forward to this for several days in advance. But to my shock, we were told there was no place for my elderly parents to sit! All the tables had signs stating that they were reserved. Staff rudely told us we could not sit in the area were the performance would take place. An employee said in a harsh tone it "might be possible after more of the crowd arrives to try to set some chairs in an aisle area, but it might not be possible to provide seating." It was getting tense, too confusing and chaotic for my folks, so sadly we left. I understand they have limited space, but they could have made it work. Or at least showed some kindness. Very unhappy with the treatment for disabled and elderly, what a disappointment! We definitely will not be returning here. read more

Meh. Slightly disappointed because read about this place in the paper as this great new place to check out. On print it sounded like a cool coffee/wine bar. Yet in reality, it is more like a airport bar. We walked in and sat at the bar area, however, noone who worked there was authorized or trained as they explained to us to pour us a glass of wine-and the staff apologized profusely but explained "it was forbidden." I believed it was liquor license issue and totally understood but then they told me "no" they would just get written up and only specific persons were trained to tend the wine and beer bar. This lead me to believe falsely that when the bartender came back she would be friendly and knowledgeable about wines/beer. But no-a rather shleppy looking member came over and had no information about the wines on the menu or even food on the menu. We tried the butter cake. It was like an Entenmanns. The wine and bubbly prices were reasonable. Did not try the coffee, so this review is not only for the failed attempt at a wine/beer beer. Once again "meh" and if you are looking for a wine bar I would go to Wyne Time or any of ther other places in the village. read more

I must say im not a huge coffee or tea drinker but I love Zizzos. I went in there on an early morning grumpy groggy and unsure of what I wanted ( im not a morning person) and came out full, awake and happy. They had a wonderful tea brand I hadn't heard of in the most interesting pouch (sorry any tea lovers, i don't know exactly know the lingo im looking for). It was the best peppermint I've ever had, the water was a dark green/brown and had the most amazing aroma. Ive also had their croissants and tuxedo hot coco.mmm tasty! Plus the woman who served me ( i wish i knew her name) was so kind, she could instantly tell i was grumpy, and had no problem with my indecisiveness and was so friendly. This is my favorite coffee shop in the Santa Cruz area. Their white mocha is better than any other place I've tried. They have a large menu with enough coffee drinks to suit anyone's desires. The new renovation looks great too. Very upscale and the bar is nice, although I've never been there late enough to enjoy drinks. But hey, maybe sometime. Its 5 o'clock somewhere. I've tried some of their pastery type snacks as well which were also good. The owners are very nice and remember their customers and their orders, which is always a nice perk. Met a friend at Zizzos for a drink tonight. We needed a place with WIFI to go over some work stuff and wanted to have a glass of wine. Turns out this place is nice!! Walked into a really nice vibe, good lighting, nice decor, great piano man, wonderful food and presentation, superb local wine and the customer service was most excellent!! Seriously the customer service was outstanding!!! We never opened the computer. We were having too much fun. This place is fantastic. Definitely coming back!!! read more

This is the best kept secret in Santa Cruz! It's tucked away in a strip mall but once you walk in you recognize that this is not your ordinary Santa Cruz coffee house, or wine bar! They have great coffee (even Teddy Bears in the latte foam), BUT the best part is the piano bar/wine bar. Great local musicians play in this small intimate space, the audience sings along and the owner (Christine) and wait staff are personable and happy to entertain! Zizzo's does not have very good coffee. The prices for the "fancy" drinks are the highest in the county. But I am giving it a good rating because of the atmosphere and friendly service.
