Coffee Connoisseur here ‍ I've done coffee crawls in Portland, OR and have tried many different kinds of lattes. I like to look for new spins on lattes to see what barista's are whipping up to make things unique. I came in thinking I was going to get a basic latte, but the Borgia Mocha caught my eye! I asked the cashier if it was a good choice and she recommended it. I was a little unsure how the two would blend and how much orange they would use in it, but it came out amazing! Honestly probably one of the top 10 unique mocha's I have tried and it was delicious! I loved the burst of refreshing orange that complimented the chocolate. The flavors danced on my tastebuds like two separate flavors that blended together as one. Each holding their own note that added value to the drink making it unique. I was instantly impressed and wish I found this on more menus! A classic mocha with a refreshing twist of orange was a pleasant surprise! I'm so glad I stopped in for a pick me up! I had been here once before and really enjoyed it, so I was disappointed by this visit. Today we ordered a matcha, an iced matcha, and a matcha with peppermint, along with three biscuits. Unfortunately, our order was incorrect, the peppermint was missing from the matcha, and the drinks weren't properly mixed, so the matcha had separated. The biscuits were also a letdown. They tasted like they had been microwaved and became hard within minutes. We were also given chive butter with jam, which was a confusing pairing and didn't make much sense. Zocalo Coffeehouse is a local hangout - a popular eaterie that serves beverages, pastries, and brunch. Street parking only. The interior is spacious and has a lot of tables and window seating. They also have a little area for kids/toddlers. Two unisex restrooms. The baristas/servers are friendly and welcoming. Creme Brulee Latte: vanilla, caramel, and turbinado sugar (3.5/5). I ordered it iced. Good strong expresso flavor with the sweetness of vanilla and sugar. Though, I thought they might brulee the sugar but it was ordinary looking. LOL. It was good. Wanted a spacious coffee cafe where I could review a college app & this fit the bill except with the loudness. Fortunately, I came prepared with AirPods. Order: Iced Crème Brûlée- a caramelized coffee that has a nice in house coffee bean aromatic taste. If you enjoy a sweet coffee treat w/caramel, then the Iced Crème Brûlée would be a great choice. Buttermilk Biscuit w/ bacon, eggs, cheese with an added $1.75 for avocado. This sandwich did not disappoint bc I could taste the home made buttermilk biscuit w/its light & flaky texture. The cheese incorporated w/the egg was slightly runny which to me perfectly paired well together. As I took a peak inside the sandwich I was really happy to see thick pieces of bacon & generous slices of avocado. I could see why this is a popular sandwich people order. Zocalo Coffeehouse has such a cozy, neighborhood feel. I stopped by for a breakfast sandwich and a hot latte, and both hit the spot. The sandwich was warm, hearty, and well put together. My latte was smooth and comforting, with just the right amount of foam and espresso strength to start the morning off right. The space itself feels relaxed and welcoming, great for catching up with a friend or getting a little work done. Service was friendly and unhurried, which matched the laid-back vibe. COFFEEHOUSE'S CAFE The are quite a number of coffeehouses that claim to be a café. I first went here late last year as I had a medical appointment at San Leandro in the morning. I needed coffee in the morning so I came here after searching on Yelp. When I first arrived at Zocalo Coffeehouse I was worried about finding parking spaces with parking meters. I was able to find one across the corner of this place. That first time I came here I ordered a coffee (Mexican Mocha) and pastry (kougin amann). I enjoyed both items but if I wanted to come back to Zocalo Coffeehouse I prefer to go on the morning weekends. This summer I came here on a Saturday for breakfast. For coffee I order Mexican Mocha. For food I ordered an egg biscuit sandwich. I have been to other cofeeshops that served egg muffin sandwich. What intrigued me about the egg biscuit sandwich is the biscuit is made from scratch. The Mexican Mocha had a spice. The biscuit has a buttery taste. The egg was fluffy while the bacon was crispy. I came here again about a week later. The reason I came here was on my previous visit I noticed one of the items on the menu that got my interest - lox toast. I love bagel and lox however the lox toast at Zocalo Coffeehouse might overtake it. Unlike bagel and lox when the salmon is covered the lox toast isn't covered by the bread. This results in tasting more of the salmon. The coffee I ordered borgia with its citrus taste complimented the savory salmon. Then I came back again this time to try the biscuit with butter and jam. For coffee I get my usual beverage at a coffeehouse - white mocha. One thing I love about the biscuit is it isn't crumbly. That texture can result in a chalky taste. I enjoyed the jam, but I prefer butter with my biscuit. During my multiple visits to Zocalo Coffeehouse what really stands out is the food offered. The food at Zocalo Coffeehouse is pricier than most coffeeshops. However most coffeeshops offer the same food you see at other coffeeshops. If I wanted to have a satisfied meal at a coffeeshop I go to Zocalo Coffeeshop. read more

So I came in here on a whim with my brother-in-law last week, and once more on my final day in San Leandro, and my oh my is this place absolutely charming! It reminds me of a bigger version of a coffee joint back home in Tarpon! The environment is clean and classy as all hell, with the feel of one of those homey old-school vibes, and the smell of coffee and baked goods permeates the air. I definitely felt a sense of warmth coming into this shop, especially given how kind and humorous the people working here are. They specialize in teas, lattes, and espressos...For children, they even serve hot chocolate which I thought was a nice little treat (of course, adults can buy it too). So I decided to try something from their Summer menu; the Mango Lemonade Razz (which I keep pronouncing as rizz, much to the staff's amusement). It was fruity, delicious, and although it looked nothing like it did in the pamphlet (which I found irksome in general, but not enough to deduct on the rating over), it still was so nice I had to try it thrice! Got ayummy vanilla iced coffee here. Inside is the coffee shop is very hip and there is TONS of seating which is important because coffee shops are gathering places! We sat outside with our dog, which was lovely in the nice weather. My coffee was delicious, not too sweet, and very high quality. Highly recommend. read more

Stopped here on my way back to LA The cashier was nice, my friends and I were super excited for the food and the place looked super cute. We waited for almost an hour to receive our food. Since I was on a time crunch I decided to ask if I could get my food to go instead. I was waiting in line to ask when the girl taking out the food found me. I politely asked her if I could get my food to go because I needed to leave and apologized since she had to pack it up now. She said nothing to me and had a straight face and turned around to return to the kitchen. I watched her walk towards the cashier and then back to the kitchen where a guy watched what she was doing. I guess they asked her what she was doing and she aggressively told them that now I wanted it to go. She began putting things in boxes aggressively that they began to help her. I don't think they realized I was watching the whole thing and standing there. At this point I still felt bad but questioned why she was super upset. When she was coming out with my food I kindly told her I could take the bag and gestured to take it but she just looked at me and continued to walk away. At this point I got mad, I followed her and watched her put a parfait in my bag. She still looked mad and handed me the bag so I made a face. I went out and let my friends know, we left but decided to check the bag before fully leaving. The parfait was questionable because I had order something advertised on their menu as granola with fresh fruit on greek yogurt. Which adds up I guess but I waited over almost an hour for this?? The line was a bit long for a late Tuesday morning and although the space is fairly large it was packed! Once we placed our breakfast order we had our food within 10-12 minutes. We tried to order the waffles but I guess they no longer carry them? They were out of the French toast so they suggested the breakfast sandwich was the next best thing, they came out smokin hot! Came on a calm Saturday morning. Parking can be tough since it's on a busy yet residential area. Place wasn't that packed and the service was good. I've been here a couple times and this was my first occasion trying the food. Since it was nice we sat outside and our food was brought to us. You order inside and they have a variety of lattes + breakfast + lunch items, including Mimosas. My matcha was perfect, tastes like real matcha not super sweet. A solid 4 star coffee shop for vibes, prices, quality, and location. Came here with my husband and we got a matcha latte, a regular latte, and split a cinnamon roll. Drinks are about $7 ish for what I consider a regular sized drink. Pros: - Pretty nice space - there's many tables (although best for parties of 1-4 only, can get pretty busy) for studying and sitting/chatting. There's also counter seating in some areas if you're alone and studying/reading. - Decent matcha latte. Not as good as Pete's award winning matcha latte, but better than Cafe 4 in my opinion! Not too sweet and tastes like real matcha - Has bathrooms - A creative children's play area that also has a couple chairs where parents can supervise - drinks come out pretty quickly - Strong free wifi (which is in itself already a great thing for group projects/getting work done, etc) - Staff was really nice - Not sparkling clean, but not dirty either. - Plays music loud enough to drown out other conversations around you so you can focus if you're working/reading, but not so loud that it's disruptive to your own thoughts - Has heftier food/meal items if you want an actual lunch instead of just coffee/snacks. Cons: - Was oddly VERY muggy/stuffy and hot when we went earlier today, not sure if it was because it was a bit warm outside + the kitchen making hot food? If you happen to be in the area or a local, I can understand why you would love Zocalo. The mexican mocha coffee is delicious. But personally, I wouldn't go out of my way to revisit here unless I was craving that specifically. Came here for the first time at around 10 AM and the place was already packed. You're basically out of luck finding a seat unless you're willing to stay for a few hours, but we were lucky there were some high chairs near the little play area to sit. After ordering, it took us 30 minutes to get our chai latte and mexican mocha. Which feels way too long just for drinks and unfortunately the chai latte was basically milk with ginger and no chai. By the time our drinks came, our food made it too. Honestly the slight saving grace to this experience was the food. The lox sandwich was just okay. Nothing special in particular about it, but the mushroom quiche was actually unique and surprising. My only complaint? It was so small for the price. The salad was generous but the mushroom quiche is what you ordered for $17. I would expect it to be bigger. So overall, unless you're in the area, I would recommend skipping. Love it here It totally has the old school coffee house vibe and eacho. With the old wood and metal is plant life giving the room a hit of green. There is a space for everyone. We have the cafe table for folk to sit and talk they have the high tables that folks are working from. They even have a small area for the kiddos to play. It gives true community gathering location. I love Zocalo! I really appreciate that this location has ample seating, solid brunch, & of course amazing coffee. My favorite is the Borgia latte & the Creme Brulee. Such smooth and unique flavors that are not overly sweet & balance the notes in the espresso really nicely I came with a group that was a total of 4 adults & 1 child and we easily found a seat around 10am with no line. We did notice that it gets busier around 11am with longer lines. Only thing I would recommend improving is possibly pricing. I know this is a tough one in the economy, however I do feel like the cost of the latte's are a bit up there, especially when having to substitute for non-dairy milk. 16oz latte with oatmilk came out to about ~$8 which is just insane to me. Cute café with a semi busy ambiance. A lot of people doing computer work there & there is a cute section for kids so parents can relax and enjoy their coffees. My husband and I got the Borgia & Mexican Mocha. Both drinks tasted amazing where the coffee flavor comes through and it's not too milky and watered down. Borgia tastes exactly like a chocolate with orange filling. It's not too overly sweet but for me personally, I would get it a little less sweet next time. My husband's Mexican Mocha w/ oat milk was our favorite. Flavors were very well balanced and the spices were very fragrant. He killed his drink pretty fast. Got the white chocolate mocha which was good. Drink it fast while its warm because the white chocolate settles at the bottom making the last few sips super sweet. They also offer food and beer options here which is nice creating more of a social environment. Lots of seating inside too and they have a small kids play area in the back. Staff are friendly all around. May not be the best place if you want a quiet work place as it was pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon when I went. Just bring noise cancelling headphones! I really want to love this place but their service and product is hit or miss. For the cost I would expect a more consistent product and service. They often take too long (20+ minutes) for either coffee or food. During my last visit we placed the order ahead of time. The food was ready as soon as I got there but it took over 15 minutes for two lattes. When we followed up, staff was not apologetic but were short and disorganized. The coffee was tasty but the food was mediocre. The biscuit was delicious but the avocado was overly ripe and did not taste good. The berries were peak ripeness but were cut on a cutting board with garlic or onions so it tasted like it. Ugh. This place could be amazing with some adjustments but until then I'll skip paying $50 for two coffees and two biscuit sandwiches. read more

Came in on a weekday afternoon and there were a lot of people working on their laptops. They offer free wifi, which is a great perk. Parking is street parking on a street with a lot of shops, which could get busy. My parking spot only allowed me to stay for 3 hours. They have a little kiddie area which is super cute. Moms will bring in their kids, which can get loud, but that is pretty infrequent. Food was not bad but nothing to write home about. Overall, it was not a bad place to do some work. read more

This place is beautiful! Upon walking in, you're greeted with friendly baristas and so many plants. I love the extensive menu. There are many different drink options (they don't charge extra for milk substitute) and a full lunch/brunch menu. My friend and I were able to find seats against the window and talk without feeling disruptive or rushed out. This place does fill up quickly so I recommend coming early if you plan on coming during the normal work hours. They have outdoor seating as well but it is near a busy street. Street parking is available, however, it is filled quickly as there are many businesses in the area. read more
