Honestly, This place is an absolute GEM. A classic coffee shop that doesn't try to make things too complicated but some times the best things are, when they are the simplest... especially when it comes to coffee. This place is small, basically big enough for you to order at the counter, check out the pastries, and see the coffee bean options. I came in on a Tuesday afternoon and was greeted right away. I ordered a hot vanilla latte and it was made right away. Prices are great, coffee nowadays is too much but this quality was well worth it. Only downside for me is that there is no place to sit. It's a super small coffee shop, more of a grab-and-go kind of place, but they do have a little seating area tucked behind the building. I don't drink coffee as much as I used to but do enjoy an iced coffee every now and then. As an iced coffee gal, I was curious about their iced Turkish coffee, and the owner was incredibly kind. He gave me a generous sample in the cutest little Turkish coffee cup (you know, the tiny ones!). For me, though, it was just too strong and acidic. I ended up ordering their iced lavender latte, but let me warn you, it's not your average latte. As the barista handed it over, she casually mentioned it had 4 SHOTS of espresso. Um, excuse me?? I usually do one, maaaybe two. I was shook. Glad she told me though, because that's a lot of caffeine. I ended up sipping that drink over the course of three days, and that was just the small size! I wish they would let you know ahead of time. My husband got their hot Turkish coffee. They don't make it the traditional sand way anymore (health inspector said no), but it's still brewed fresh and takes about 15 minutes. You can text ahead and they'll have it ready for you, which is super convenient. And shoutout to the owner, he personally brought my husband's coffee out to our table, which I thought was such a kind touch and really great customer service. Though I've lived here for a very long time, I've not popped in before. Wow, this is my new go-to place for beans. They get their beans from an exceptional source for quality and fair trade practices (unsure if they share it broadly). They also roast the beans themselves! I had Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, light roast (my all-time favorite). Though I always enjoyed East African coffee, a trip to Ethiopia solidified Ethiopia as the core to coffee's emergence and the passion of growers. The owner was engaging, kind, and helpful. Igor was so kind and inviting! Got there literally as they were closing and they quickly made our drinks and chatted about futebol for a bit. The next day I went right when they opened and I thought I was in a movie. The fog spread out everywhere and a little morning sunshine peaking through the trees with an older gentleman sitting at the table outside reading his newspaper felt like a cinematic masterpiece as I was walking up which turned into a comedic piece as another customer started asking us if we knew which day the summer solstice was. This is a pretty good coffee shop. I went straight to their popular mocha which has coconut milk. I've had better coconut mochas from other coffee shops but this one is decent and worth trying. I personally think it's a bit more watery; the espresso is really watered down and doesn't keep its balance. It's a sweet drink so be prepared. Medleno has once again proved to be a "must-go" for coffee. Very cozy cafe offering splendid service, quality coffee, and European sweet snacks. Visited on a Wednesday morning around 12pm and there was no wait. I ordered a 16oz iced almond milk latte and was out of the door in less than 5 minutes. The lady who runs the front is sweet as always. I can always count on Medleno for strong, delicious espresso. I'm a close friend to caffeine but their 16oz latte was so strong it took me 2-3 days to finish it. Their espresso is never acidic, never bitter. Be aware there is no seating indoors -- only a small number of chairs and tables outside. They offer a ton of little Eastern European chocolates, candies, and packaged pastries, as well as some to-go baked goods. Love that they also don't charge extra for milk substitutes. read more

I was in the area for a few vaccines and a doctor's appointment and decided to get coffee nearby. I stumbled upon this place on Yelp and drove a few minutes away to the plaza where Medleno is located. The parking lot is quite small and it was hard to find a spot but I luckily nabbed one. The shop itself is adorably tiny and there were two women in there, one who took my order. I got a soy mocha (which I typically don't get) and boy whatever coffee beans they used were probably the strongest I've had in over a year. The drink was incredibly smooth and rich in chocolate flavor so it was easy to gulp down as well. It's about a 20 minute drive from my house but I know where I'll be recommending for delicious strong coffees in the East bay/Tri Valley area and that's definitely Medleno! read more

Hidden gem! Best coffee in the area. I asked the owner why or how their coffee tastes different and proceeded to get an education on the roasting process. He said everyone sources their beans from the same vendors but the difference is in batch size and human oversight to pull out the bad beans before grinding. The mass scale operations inevitably don't catch the same amount of bad beans through automation. If you grind those in with the good beans it impacts taste, depending on the ratio in a given batch. If you like coffee, give this place a try and put my claim to the test. To me its the best I've had in this area at least. read more
