I love this store and the variety of products they carry, but the level of service is what brings me to give 3 stars. I have shopped here consistently for the past four years when I come to visit my daughter in this neighborhood and have never found the employees here helpful or friendly. I make sure to do plenty of research on the products I'm interested in prior to going in because they are not helpful at all when it comes to educating the customer on the products nor will they make recommendations. (There is never enough conversation initiated to even get that far. It's not for lack of trying. I have!) Most of the times I have shopped in there, there's not a single customer around, so it's not because they're busy. They just act like it's a complete annoyance to be asked a question about the products. I would just advise customers to have their phones handy and ready to search the products that way rather than asking. You'll get a lot further. I would have spent a heck of a lot more money in there if they were at all interested in their customers. As cute and cool of a store as it is, this is disappointing. read more

Prices are reasonable compared to most other places in Greenpoint/Williamsburg and you get much more personalized attention in this little salon than you would elsewhere. I found other beauty shops after being in greenpoint for the past 3 years but have only found true service or satisfaction Here. They have natural brands and other known brands you need like Smashbox (Actually a good list tbd) I once found their Manic Panic to be expensive --- HOWEVER I went through a learning experience of purchasing the brand products for cheaper and not getting same amazing hair results, supposing I probably got old product or bad-batch I am going to stick to purchasing my dyes from my neighborhood beauty supply, Zoe's! I was really pleasantly surprised by this place. First off they carry a great line of products including Smashbox cosmetics, Redken, L'Oréal Professional Haircare Line and a ton of other hard to find European brands for facial needs. Just browsing down the aisles I was amazed at all of the cool products they provide, including professional hair dye and hair tools (by brands like Hot Tools and Babybliss). This is my kind of place. What makes this so great is that they do carry alot of European brands and other brands that I've never even heard of. One downside is that this products can be pricey but they aren't available everywhere so thats what makes this place such a gem. oh, the hopes i had for this place. i don't know greenpoint half as well as i should, and therefore i get lost all the time in this neck of the woods. i am extremely geographically challenged. after working up a nervous sweat and circling the seemingly same blocks again and again i finally find zoe's. tiny and unassuming from the outside, i walked into a full-blown little beauty shop. now, i like products as much as the next girl and they had some good stuff there, but silly bejeweled hair things were standing in the way of me and my next great haircut (or so i thought). i wasn't exactly sure what to do with myself, no one greeted me and the skinny, vaguely-adolescent girls who appeared to work there sorta sneered in my direction, nothing more. i sat myself down on the very uncomfy seating (options were minimal) and surveyed my surroundings. now, i don't need a fancy shmancy chrome and eames chair uber-styled place to get my hair did, but i really felt like i was in the back room of someone's run-down house. the salon area was tiny, and i suppose one could call it 'shabby chic' but i found zilch to be chic about this place. i should have scurried away then. but somehow, someone figured out i was actually there to be a paying customer and i stepped up to get my hair cut. the woman (name omitted) who did my hair is one of their 'top stylists' and i felt she was rude, disinterested and didn't listen to anything i told her/asked her about my hair. one of my best girls recommended her highly and i tried to tell her so but she brusquely interrupted me. when she finally realized that i had been sent to her by a regular, she made a half-assed attempt to be friendlier. whatever. i don't need to chit chat the whole time i get a haircut. in fact, sometimes i just want to sit there and space out. i have really fine, thin hair and i wanted a choppy cut that would encourage the appearance of more volume. she said sure, and then proceeded to thin out my hair even more with a razor after she straightened it (i have pretty straight hair to begin with) to make cutting 'easier'. when i left i actually called my friend and cried. i was embarrassed on the subway. i looked like someone had taken little strips of brown construction paper and glued them to the side of my head. my hair was completely thinned out, stick straight and hideous. i threw up in my mouth a little just then typing about it. AWFUL. i don't care how cheap the haircuts are at zoe's. i'd pay a zillion dollars to never look so bad again. read more

The owner is helpful...till the one-size-fits-all (according to the label) diffuser you buy doesn't fit your hair dryer when you get it home. Try returning something here! I came back within hours of my purchase, hoping to make an exchange or something. The girl behind the counter regarded me like a cockroach and went to the back for a pow-wow with the owner. She pushed the diffuser back into my hands and said it was impossible to refund my money since everything in the store can be tested beforehand. Uh, if I had my blow dryer in my purse it would have been a great plan. So I have to eat crow and accept their great customer service policy. I don't write a lot of reviews, but I had to comment on the exceptional service I received here from everyone, esp my stylists, Delisa. Came here on the recommendation of a girlfriend, and I'm so glad I did! Despite my not being the easiest customer in the world, I ended up with a look that I love, and I appreciate all the talent that went into it. I was one of those customers who came in not knowing really what I wanted (I had also never had highlights done before, oy). Delisa and I talked through a couple of ideas of what I liked and didn't like, and somehow she seemed to get a sense of what I wanted (even when I still didn't). She suggested a look that I've seen around a lot right now- where the highlights sort of start midway down the length of your hair, and then they become brighter as they reach the bottom. It hadn't even occurred to me to get a look like that, but when she described it, I got intrigued, and decided to go for it. Thankfully, I did! My highlights came out super natural and soft looking; she really nailed it. OK, soooooo that would have gotten this place a great review from me, but there's more. The day after, I had a minor freakout about one little section of my hair being too bright (it wasn't, but I think the change was a bit sudden for me to handle), so I ended up actually going back to the salon and talking to her about it, to see what she thought, and if there was maybe anything she could do about it. She was super sweet and totally humored me, listening to me and even making a couple of suggestions of things we could do, and she ultimately ended up giving me a "glaze" on that one section of my hair, softening the color a little bit, without having to color it over entirely. It ended up looking even better. To top it all off, she wouldn't even accept payment for my freakout-induced touch-up, even though it meant she and the girl at the front desk had to close a little late waiting for me. Needless to say, I'm grateful, and very happy. It also really does not hurt that this salon is in a super cute part of Greenpoint, and only a short walk from where I live in Williamsburg. Still feels a little like an undiscovered gem, even though it's just a few minutes from all the Williamsburg action. read more

I've had some bad experiences with new people in the past, and still had to pay them hundreds of dollars and pretend to be ok with it - and that is just no fun. Delisa is an incredible stylist. I've had my hair cut and colored by her and I leave the salon so happy every time she touches me with her magical hands. The first time, she cut my bangs and did a FANTASTIC job. When I decided to grow them out, she transitioned my style and also gave me fantastic hand-painted beachy highlights. Love this place, everyone is so friendly and very helpful. Anna is truly the first person to cut and style my curly hair to a T. She really listens to you and makes suggestions for your hair type. I usually don't like my hair cut after I've washed it myself, because once it's goes back to my curly style it tends to be too short. I have come here a few times to buy stuff, not for hairstyling or anything of that sort. Last time I visited, in early October, will be final time. I totally get that they have to compete with all sorts of online and physical stores with more buying power and more space for stock, but they need to take a page from places like Northside, Bigelow or New London and treat the customer with respect. And that begins and ends with honesty. Nothing else matters (to me) if you can't tell the truth. I came in for two products, a quality mini (travel) hair straightener for my wife and some Proraso aftershave for me. I know in the past they have carried both products. So on the straightener, I had been in the week before and the attendant told me that they were out of the quality one (which I'd seen a few months back), but she knew exactly what I wanted and that they might have it the next week. So I came back and another woman, who seemed the boss of the first one (as the first was standing there but remained silent in the background throughout...) told me straight to my face this fiction "Yes well we prefer not to stock just the mini straightener, as that sells for $99, but here's this very good one with a comb and brush for only $49." That's a lie from start to finish, as I saw the other one in the store (which I know they sell for about $30), and anyway the 'combo' product was a no-name piece of junk. Lie #1. On the Proraso, it was even more blatant: I wanted the traditional aftershave, their leading aftershave, which is a green liquid that comes in a green box. As I looked at what they had (which seemed to be the full line), the same woman came over to me and I told her exactly what I wanted. She grabbed a white creamy product in a white box and told me that this is the one I was looking for but that Proraso had recently just changed the box, but the product is the same. It was pathetic. She knows better-- that's a complete and utter lie. I walked over to Northside and bought the product in the green box, which btw you can see splattered all over the Proraso website and anywhere else the product is sold I must say that the other attendant seemed very honest but this 'boss', if she recognizes herself in this review, should be ashamed of herself and simply be more honest or find another line of work. They do stock some good stuff and are an asset to the neighborhood, in which I've lived for 10 years, but they have to treat people with respect, even if it means losing a sale here and there. read more

If you're looking to purchase some off the shelf products (skin, hair, or make-up) this is the place to be. In addition to the retail store, Zoe's is a FULL BEAUTY SALON. From a spa manicure to brazilian hair straitening - they do it all. I personally have been getting my hair cut by Toni for over 3 years - and she rocks! Toni is all about keeping the customer happy. Once I had her do my hair, and I wasn't thrillled with the length in the back (I wanted shorted). I popped into the salon 3 days later and she trimmed me up FOR FREE! Although getting an appointment with Toni can be difficult, it is WELL WORTH THE WAIT. read more

The ladies working at the store are very helpful and friendly. However, the salon prices are very pricey. I spent $210 on partial highlights when i usually spend $150-175 on full highlights. If you don't mind the splurge then go for it, but there are other salons in the area that do a great job for much less. read more
