Despite the mixed reviews for this place, I was craving sushi and am on a budget. It's a sushi option in the 'hood and Groupon saved the day! I grabbed a small bottle of sake on the way over because it's BYOB (thank you!) and got my Groupon grub on. I ordered four rolls: Sexy Dynamite, Sweet Potato, Caribbean and Caramel Crunch *Broke girl budget tip: Go stag so you can savor all the sushi goodness yourself. It's not greedy, it's savvy ;) And I had AM leftovers when I got home with the munchies from a long night out! All of the rolls were unique and tasty. The servings were plentiful, and my server was pleasant. Zoku did NOT disappoint! Zoku reminds me a lot of Jaiyen. Not authentic by any means, but delicious nonetheless. The decor is not so fab (alas, the cool wall mural is no more), so maybe skip it as a first date destination. This seems like the perfect late night sushi delivery place. They're open till 2am! The only unpleasant aspect of my visit was the side door issue. Restaurant employees were continually coming and going through the side door that opened up directly into the small dining room. It was negative degrees outside, and I'd be freezing cold every time this occurred. Maybe they weren't aware? All in all a satisfying experience. read more

Zoku is the only sushi in my 'hood of Humboldt Park, so on a recent Friday night I ventured out to check it out. This small restaurant is in the space of the wonderful Treat (RIP), and falls well below the mark of that unique place. Walked in and an employee off-shift was taking up the sushi "bar" area playing with her cell phone. Never looked up. Just slovenly hanging around. I hate that. I was seated by another waitress, facing the awesome mural wall. Kudos on that. The rest of the decor is adequate. Noticed a few people on dates here, I would probably skip date night here if you're wanting to impress. I ordered the appetizer - Gyu negima- tender beef wrapped around green onion w/teriyaki glaze and entrees: - Spicy Tuna rolls -California rolls And then I waited for awhile...then out came the rolls. Gee, that's a kitchen fail. Thanks for bringing out the appetizer AFTER the entree. The "tender" beef was cooked medium well, making it tough, screwing up what could have been a nice dish. I think they were trying to disguise a poor cut of meat, actually. The spicy of the Spicy Tuna was all but missing. The California rolls were adequate. I will be back or will order the Caramel rolls or some specialty Maki, but I'm not rushing here to do so. read more

My hubby and I stopped by for dinner tonight. We had a great time and plan to go back and or take advantage of the delivery option. The large spicy miso soup was indeed a large bowl. This miso was one of the most flavorful miso's we've ever had. We had the caramel crunch maki, the caribbean maki and the hamachi maki. All of the maki rolls were delicious. There are several other rolls on the menu that we would be interested in trying. The pieces of sushi were both fresh and true to the style of fish. The crab rangoon appetizer was up there with some of our favorite crab rangoon. It was crowded but we had great service. read more

Been here a few times. Had it delivered too. Really good. Sushi is tasty. But the katsu don is amazing. Panang curry was excellent. I enjoyed the hamachi jalapeño a lot too. Even the chicken were tasty! My partner isn't a fan of sushi so this is a great compromise and we both win. Plus BYOB! read more

Have always enjoyed ordering from Zoku. My favorite dish is the Korean BBQ. They have made changes over the past year. (I don't really prefer the kimchee they added to the dish, but their sushi rice is really great. I do wish they offered some kind of desert though.) Delivery was on time. Food was still hot. Nestled in a sketchy part of the neighborhood. When we arrived, all the tables were full. I have no idea how anyone would randomly notice the place (as the exterior is very dark) unless you were already planning on going there. The futo roll, dragon, and hamachi-negi were amazing. Was expecting tiny roles from reading other reviews, but these were decent in my opinion. Got shrimp spring rolls...okay, but I've never been a spring roll fan. Also got the veggie green curry. The curry was okay, but not many vegetables, and the ones that were there were all baby carrots. The rice was also rather interesting. Loved the 3 rolls that I got, however. The waitress was rather unattentive and had to be asked many times to get our drinks refilled, but luckily there was another server that started picking up her slack. Zoku stands out simply for one reason, they are open really late 2am most nights, but for some reason 12am on fridays?? The rolls are creative, none of them blew me away though. I have not tried anything else except the maki rolls, although they do have some more entrees. With it being very close to me, and availability on grubhub, I am sure I will be ordering from them many more times late at night. But in any other circumstances there are better options for sushi. read more

My friend and I decided to check this place out, as it's one of the few places near our houses that makes sushi. Our first impression walking in was that the decor was nice enough, but it wasn't as clean as most sushi places tend to be. The floor needed cleaning and there was even a toilet in a box and different items on a table in the corner. Not a good first impression appearance wise. There was no host and the guy making the sushi told us to sit down. To be fair, both the guy making the sushi and the server were very nice. We tried their Chicago and Godzilla rolls, Unagi (in rolls), seaweed salad and shrimp dumplings. I eat a lot of sushi, so these are all things I've tried a million times. Seaweed salad: good, but not the best I've ever had. Chicago and Godzilla rolls: Did not taste fresh and my friend was having a hard time chewing the black part that keeps the sushi together. Unagi: I've never had it in rolls, but agreed to try it as my friend asked for it in rolls. Easily the worst Unagi I've ever tried; I was having a hard time swallowing it down. I LOVE Unagi, but I have no idea what this was supposed to be. Shrimp dumplings: Good enough, but I've had better. They're also quite small here. Overall, I like giving places second chances, especially if the people working there seem kind. I am willing to try the Thai food if they tidy up the place a bit more and again, because the staff was nice. read more

The restaurant also serves Chinese and Thai but I really like their sushi. The shrimp fried rice is done Thai Style (very different from Chinese style but very good). After my graduation my family and I had decided to go out to eat and celebrate! I was craving sushi so I suggested a sushi restaurant. We had called all of the sushi places we can think of but all of them were booked with a 2 hour wait. It was raining and dark so we were honestly just driving around at this point, frustrated and confused on where to go. We ended up in the Humboldt Park area, we grew up in the area so we're familiar with the places or so we thought til we came across Zoku's. We decided to give it a shot. It was pretty small and cozy with only 2 other customers inside and I don't have a small family so we were like at least 12 people deep. But it felt like our kind of scenery. The sushi was great, I'm a plain old California Roll kind of girl but the presentation was beautiful, such Art wasn't something I was expecting. We ended the night with our stomachs' full and definitely more relaxed and ease than when we first arrived. If you're in the Humboldt Park area and you're finding a calm chill place with some great sushi, try out Zuko Sushi. Definitely will be coming back. 5 Stars read more

I wish this place was better because it's right by my house. Spicy miso is good... there are some good things on the menu, but I wish the Thai dishes were more in your face authentic. If you ask for it to be spicy, they do not honor the request. The sushi is ok, but I recommend sticking to popular fish that rotates most often because I got some very rank hamachi. read more

I am so glad this place opened back up after closing to revamp the menu and chef. Quite honestly, their sushi matches up really well with some popular restaurants out there, like Nori, Trike, Uni, and Runa. They used to be a little less expensive but still offer a decent variety of rolls under $8-10. Most signature rolls fall between $10-12. This place doesn't really have the ambiance to actually want to dine in. They have an underutilized outdoor spot which they haven't seemed to figure out how to use. Otherwise, I'd order take out here all day. They are very generous with their fish portions in each roll! My favs: Sushi Lunch (2 rolls, miso soup) $9.95 They have a really great deal on their Thai lunch menu for $7.95. I think their Thai food is as good or better than Trike, Nori, or Pot Pan. read more

Also, their delivery usually errs on the long side, which makes the rolls slightly less tasty than they would be in person.
