Jose is the best! We had a flat tire and he was able to fix it in less than 10 minutes! I like that he doesn't try to upsell you in the process and he was able to tell us what caused the flat and how to avoid those pesky trees in the area. Two days later we got another flat in the other tire (must of had a smaller leak) and Jose not only fixed the flat tire but he did some small maintenances that increased the performance of the bike for little to no charge! read more

Some well meaning realative bought me a $100 gift card to helens bicycle. WHat a horrible gift, I had to deal with such crap service and poor attitudes for 3 visits to that joke of an operation. Zone 3 is absolutely the best, they don't make you feel like punk and then take your money. I picked up road cycling a little over a year ago, and quickly fell in love with the sport. I began riding three to four times a week. However, as I was learning the ropes, I was doing all sorts of stuff wrong, and my bike fell in to disrepair quite often. Like everyone else, I naturally gravitated toward larger bike store chains for service... Who routinely (and sometimes quite brusquely) quoted me service schedules and turnarounds of days or sometimes even weeks later. Then, I found Jose and Zone 3. I was worried that I'd feel like an outsider because I'm no triathlete, but when I first walked in, there was no air of pretension whatsoever. I explained to Jose that my shifting was a little chunky, and, before he even looked at my bike, he offered me a coffee. Talk about good service! When I came back later that afternoon (he called me to let me know my bike was ready that very same day), Jose even brought me back into his service area to show me how I could make minor adjustments myself at home. Needless to say, from that point on, I went to Jose for everything: nutrition, components, service, you name it. To me, Zone 3 defines "local bike shop." You get great service, bike education, very reasonable prices, and a friendly atmosphere, where no matter your level of "expertise", you are treated with respect. I'm never the guy to leave a negative review, but my God, this guy could not have gave a s--- less about me or my bike. I get it, I ride an old, crappy, beat-up Peugeot that needs a ton of TLC. But I'm willing to pay you to fix the issues so I can ride my short way to the gym/work every day. But I've now taken it into this guy three or four times (because it's only a mile from my house) and today I finally had enough. Guy treats me as if I'm a nuisance, made my major problem worse (tire sticking on break pad/frame), and charged me $14 to fix a flat tire that took him 90 seconds to repair. And get this, after selling me used tires a couple months ago, he tells me the same tires he sold me are too wide for my bike and I need skinnier ones next time I buy tires!!! Unreal. If you're a rich, white dude with a $3,000 bike, I'm sure he'll treat you better. But don't bring your sub-$200 bike in here. It's too much to ask a guy who makes his living repairing bikes I guess. read more

I recently decided to get rid of my Jeep and replace it with a bicycle. So after finding a good deal on a new 2012 model commuter bike (in 2013), I took it to Jose at Zone 3 on a Sunday to be built. I was all excited to finally get my bike when Jose called me the following Tuesday, but he had bad news: my rear wheel was damaged and couldn't be repaired. While I got in touch with the online bike store from where I purchased the bike and the bike manufacturer, Jose was great--he let me leave the bike at his shop for weeks, sent me pictures when I needed them for refunds, called me with updates when he didn't have to, and did everything he could to get me on my bike. (Things were so annoying with the other people involved, I seriously considered just returning the bike for a refund and buying a newer model through Zone 3. That's how great Jose was through everything.) To top such great service off, when I finally showed up to get the bike, it had a Christmas bow on it! I know that was probably just a little Christmas decoration for the shop, but it seemed like a really great personal touch, especially after all the trouble it took to get the bike in good shape. (It's the little things that can win me over.) Sadly, I don't know if I'll be able to make it back to Zone 3 after I sell my car. I live in Van Nuys, so Santa Monica might be off limits unless I strong arm somebody into taking me there, but for the rest of you cyclists out there, look no further than Zone 3. Even if it's a drive for you, that kind of service and craftmanship is seriously worth going out of your way. Other pluses: parking's a breeze, and their hours make it easy for anybody to drop by. This place is great. I started coming here a couple months and found the owner, Jose, to be extremely helpful. He provided me a couple of free samples on nutrition and I thought, that was nice. Not only that, smart business, too. Another time, I was planning on a ride from Santa Monica to Oceanside and wanted to pick up some nutrition and electrolytes. However, since he doesn't carry (they don't make?) individual servings, he broke open a supply of Hammer electrolytes and gave me enough in a pill pouch to get me through the ride so I wouldn't have to carry a big bottle of pills in my pouch. Finally, I brought my Cannondale in to get serviced. I wanted to have everything degreased, cables changed, etc. (essentially, a bike disambly and rebuild). I figured it was a couple years old and could use. When I picked it up and the bill was only in the $60s, I was surprised and asked if he had done all of the work I requested. He answered, "no, it didn't need. I could have done it for you, but would have charged you a couple hundred for things you simply didn't need". How often do you hear that? Very impressed with his service, passion for cycling, and not nickeling and diming the customer. I used to get my gear at Helen's and while they are a fine bike shop, I find the personalized touch at Zone3 more suitable to my tastes. I've bought the Team Six13 cannondale full campy, the Scott Plasma LTD Dura-Ace, and Santa Cruz Blur XTR from Helen's in the past. Due to Jose's "client service", I now have purchased an Orbea Orca Gold Super Record. Like I said, "smart business". I will be getting all of my bicycling needs met here in the future. read more

Great place to get your bike serviced. I brought my bike in to fix a flat tire. The guy fixed the flat, greesed my chain, and adjusted my seat for me. I never even knew my seat was weird, but now it feels amazing...like a brand new bike. It's so much more comfotable now. Customer service was great too, friendly chill guy working there (might be the manager/owner). Whole thing cost around $16 and took about 10 mins. Definitely coming back when I'm flat. read more

It's nice to see smaller boutique bike shops pop up. I had been bike searching for sometime before I passed this shop with their "Grand Re-Opening" banner. The owner(Raul iirc) has the absolute smoothest Campy drive train I have ever encountered. It was unreal how smooth he is able to get his group to shift. What's even better is his tuneups. The pricing is fair and unlike most stores, he uses an ultrasonic cleaner for bike components versus just spraying the bike/components with a degreaser and washing the bike off. His tune up compares favorably to many of the large stores at a much better price. read more

I was so disappointed when the day after my first ride, on my new bike, my rear tire was flat. This is a massive Fat Bike Mountain ebike... and I ordered it from out of State. Well, when I looked on-line, read the reviews here, and saw Zone 3 was 2 blocks from my house, I thought that was good luck. Actually, it was very good luck! Jose was the most helpful service person/technician I have ever dealt with at any LBS. He special ordered my tube, and called me in when it arrived (including a spare). The repair itself was swift, and mindful. This man is a true pro. He even spent a bit of time fine tuning my rear disc brake caliper. He was not happy until the brake adjustment was perfect. This shop is ALL about good service. The gear is focused mainly on tri/competitive cycling, but there is a good range of equipment for the average cycler to upgrade their rig as well. What really stands out is the friendly advice and killer service provided by the owner. I had a great experience at zone 3. My street bike was shipped out to me and I quickly yelped places to have it assembled and zone 3 was the clear choice. The price for assembly was completely reasonable ($45). Dropped the bike off on Monday and it was ready for pick up the next day. When I went to pick it the staff was very friendly and explained some questions I had about getting it in my car. I also bought a helmet and tool to use for adjusting the seat height which was awesome. Finally I was also able to get a free water bottle with the yelp check-in which was an extra bonus. If you a serious cyclist/tri athlete (or even semi-serious) I think Zone 3 should be your go-to bike shop. While other local bike shops have their positives, they aren't totally focused on the needs of the triathlete like Zone 3. I also like the fact that when you go into Zone 3 your dealing with Jose the owner who really knows his stuff. So when I need information about local tri's and cycling, or a bike repair, a new bike, or gear of ANY KIND Zone 3 is my first choice! Small selection if you are going to buy a bike but easily a 5 star for service and price.

I recently was shopping for a new road bike and happened upon Zone3 as it it close to my home. There were other big bike shops in the area, and I scoped them out as well, but I kept coming back to Zone3 because I liked the expertise and attention that Jose provided. He recommended a Kestrel Talon Road at a very attractive price for a Carbon bike. He didn't have one in stock, but showed me the bike in the catalogue and said it could be in his shop in a few days. He took my measurements to size the bike without any fees. When I asked to write down details about the bike, he didnt mind, recognizing full well that I could take the information elsewhere and shop for a better price. In fact, I went online (he actually told me I would likely find the bike for about $100 cheaper on some online sites, but that it would not come boxed and would need to be assembled and sized, which most bike shops charge $150-$250). I did find the bike online as he said; however the $100 online difference did not seem worth it to me when Jose was offering to do my full sizing, assembly and fitting for free. I ordered the bike from Jose and he kept me notified all week via email about the order status. Unfortunately, the Talon Road ended up on backorder for a few months, so Jose contacted me about switching to the next higher bike from Kestrel, the RT1000, at a much bigger discount than he was able to offer the Talon Road. This might sound like a scam, but I was actually ordering 2 bikes, and he was able to get one of them (different size) in the Talon Road, but my size was not available. Again, I did my online research on the RT1000, and still found that Jose was offering me the best overall deal. When the bike(s) arrived, I came in for my fitting (all included), which entailed assembling the bike and fine tuning the pedals, seat, and handlebars to my specific size dimensions. He also put the cleats on my shoes (which were both bought elsewhere but he didn't make that an issue). Finally, this being my first road cycle, Jose spent time educating me on things I needed to know about the bike, and general maintenance advice and guidance. He also told me to ride the bike for a few weeks and then come back and he would make whatever adjustments to the fit that we needed to make once I "felt it out". Overall, I was very happy I went to Zone 3 for the following reasons: - Very competitive pricing - Attentive and comprehensive customer service In conclusion, I would recommend Zone3 if you are interested in building a relationship with a local bike shop and not just making a purchase. read more

OMG! Forever I had a great bike shop to go to... Newhall Bicycle and they moved out of state. I have taken my bike to several different shops and until my son found Jose at Zone 3 Multisport I was lost. His bike came back in perfect condition and since then he has overhauled both of our mountain bikes and road bikes. Unlike other shops I've went to to get my bikes fitted i didn't recieve the same snobbish remarks from Jose as i did the others, about my bike not fitting or being too old to be used. I went into this store on a whim; I happened to be ready for a break during a long ride, saw their 'grand reopening' banner, and stopped in to take a look around while I recovered a bit. Upon being asked of I needed anything, I decided to have them replace a popped spoke. They then asked if I wanted them to true (straighten, by adjusting all the spokes ) the wheel as well since I'd been riding on the popped spoke for a while and the wheel was pretty wobbly. I accepted, and Raul invited me into the shop area and proceeded to explain each step of the replacement and truing process as he inspected the wheel. He showed me that another spoke had popped, and proceeded to replace both with higher gauge ones and adjust every spoke until the wheel was straight again. In 30 minutes my rear wheel was like new again. Excellent service, friendly staff. I'll go back. read more
