    Seasonal grilled chicken salad
    Dorothy C.

For an amusement quick service restaurant it was surprisingly good. My husband got the chicken tenders basket with fries after we saw a basket sitting there under the heat lamp, but the employee made us a fresh one without us even asking. It was 3 large pieces of hot, fresh, lightly crispy, and super tasty and juicy chicken breast over a basket of French fries. Dare I say it was pretty close to Raising Cane's on this day. I hope it's just as good next time we get it. I got the prepackaged seasonal grilled chicken salad. It looked small but was a decent amount of chicken. It also had fresh strawberries, dried cranberries, and shaved cheese on a bed of spring mix. Standard good. Pricing is pretty decent as well. The thing I really miss from some 25 years ago are the zoo fries: animal shaped French fries. Those back in the day were simply magical. If they brought those back, I'd become a $1000 level zoo donor immediately.

They do not warn you about the extremely funny tapir!! It alone is worth a star.

The food is really just alright...I know quality is not their main selling point, however with the prices they charge, it really should be. Plus the whole place, including the menus, are sorely outdated and THE VENDING MACHINES WILL SCAM YOU. 3 stars because the food is reminiscent of a high quality frozen one and the tapirs were actually kinda awesome.

The burgers were ok and the cheese fries came with the kind of nacho cheese I really like but everything is too greasy. You really feel a bit ill afterwards. I'd say skip the food at the zoo and bring a lunch or eat somewhere else. Prices are decent though and they have free refills.

What chaos. The cashier was clueless. The lounge till forever looking to get through and there was only a few people ahead of us. Clearly she wasn't trained well. We ordered a side of fries and a simple salad and she wanted to charge us extra for salad dressing! What?! I'm getting salad and I need to pay extra for a key component? Of course I complained about it and another employee said the salad comes with dressing. Well it would be great if ALL THE EMPLOYEES were familiar with their products. Ugh. And during all this confusion, our fries were getting cold. They really need to find a more effective way to get the line living so purple font stand there with hot food waiting to pay. When we walk to the condiment table to get plastic ware there was a huge pump jug of ranch dressing. Sigh. After all that about the damn dressing! Wow! Anyway, looking for a table that was clean was a joke, so I grabbed some paper towels and a bit of water and cleaned the table myself. Coming from a food service background it irks me when there are ample employees, minimal guests and the cleaning is lacking. Only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the salad was actually good. The lettuce mix was crisp and filled with carrots, tomatoes and croutons. I'm at the zoo often, but I think I'll pass on this one next time around.

    Chicken strips and fries.

Zoo Grill is ok for a decent snack, especially if you haven't brought your own food. The burgers, hot dogs, chicken strips, fries, etc. are all comparable to most fast food restaurants. And when the weather makes you want to seek shelter, like today's warm up, its the only spot in the entire zoo where you can dine indoors. The A/C can actually get downright cold. You may also want to request your food prepared fresh, they tend to pre-cook and then place menu items under a heat lamp for the cafeteria style line. However during busy hours, food is constantly being prepared and placed there. There is also a 10% discount with an annual zoo membership card which I always take advantage of. I've been an annual member for most of my life.

Quick snack before hitting the children's petting zoo.

OG Smash Burger is seriously a hidden gem. It's down the street from my house, which honestly might…read morebe dangerous because I keep finding excuses to come back. The burgers are smashed perfectly -- crispy edges, juicy center, and packed with flavor. You can tell they don't rush the process and actually care about how the food comes out. The buns are soft but sturdy, the toppings are fresh, and everything is well-balanced without being greasy or overwhelming. The fries are hot, seasoned right, and pair perfectly with the burger. Portions are solid for the price, and you definitely leave full. Service is friendly and laid-back, and the vibe feels local and welcoming, not corporate or fake. It's the kind of spot you hit once and then immediately start recommending to people. If you're anywhere nearby and craving a legit smash burger, OG Smash Burger is 100% worth it -- especially if you're lucky enough to live close like I do.

While the chili is tasty and the service is excellent--the cashier was genuinely dedicated to guest satisfaction, and the food comes out hot and made-to-order in 5-10 minutes--it lacks the signature experience of the real OG Original Tommy's. Not huge at all and for the price, therefore not a good value. I spent $24 for the Chilicheese bruger combo with $1 upcharge for a bottled drink. The burger itself was decent, but they are way too tight with the chili portions compared to Tommy's, and the shoestring fries don't hold the chili nearly as well as the thicker-cut fries. I also found the specific combination of pickles, onions, and mustard on a Tommy's burger to be superior. The setting is purely a walk-up window with four outdoor benches, so it lacks the atmosphere of a traditional dine-in experience. Street parking during around 2pm on weekday was no problem. Got a spot right in front of the joint. If you do stop by, definitely give the chili a moment to cool--it comes out steaming hot! It's a solid, quick meal, but it hasn't dethroned the real OG, Original Tommy's, for me.

So someone else from the kitchen came out to help with pick up window. Therefore, total time spent to go in and pick up the food was about 5mins. What came down to give 3/5 stars was the food taste. It felt like the food quality has gone down from the time when they first opened. Maybe the sauce was overpowering the meat and cheese? Maybe the meat got cold too fast? Something didn't feel right. The more I took a bite, I just wasn't satisfied. The fries were slightly on the soggy side vs crispy. Maybe I should've asked to cook longer? I don't know exactly what it was but I wasn't happy with my food overall. However, paying only $1 for large size coke was amazing! Thanks for staying open though, you guys are better than McDonald's, jack in the box, or other fast food burger restaurants (except in n out)!

Tommy's chili hasn't changed--ever--and I love the stuff.
