Zoo Grill isn't bad, and when all you need is a place to eat during a long day at the zoo, "not bad" is more than enough. The zoo has a few dining options, but this one is the easiest to find, close to the entrance, right before the first animals. You have to double back for it if you're already deep into your visit, but that's not a bad thing if one of your kids just loves those flamingos. Zoo Grill is a cafeteria-style joint, where you slide a tray down a metal counter and order at a register, then seat yourself at one of the many indoor or outdoor tables. There's sometimes a line, but it goes reasonably fast, and service is polite and efficient. The food is fine. I get the chicken tender basket to share with my one-year-old (though he eats so much that he might have to start getting his own). This seems like a safe choice. They fry the tenders up fresh, so they're hot and crispy, if heavily breaded with a somewhat meager amount of actual meat. They're served with fries, which are also pretty decent. The other options look worse. I haven't been tempted by the pre-made sandwiches or anything that depends on the quality of the produce. My three-year-old gets the healthy kids box, which comes with peanut butter and jelly, fries, and a juice box. Honestly, though, I'm lucky if he touches his lunch. He'd much rather eat a churro and call it a day. No alcohol here, though you can get beer and wine at other eateries in the zoo. There's a soda fountain that only has Pepsi products and a Slushee machine that is sometimes out of commission. You can also get cans of Bubly and other assorted beverages, including chocolate milk (perhaps to complement a churro lunch). Zoo Grill may not be amazing, but it's quick and easy and handily serves its purpose. I'm sure I'll be back many more times, to eat chicken tenders and feed and water my young. read more

For an amusement quick service restaurant it was surprisingly good. My husband got the chicken tenders basket with fries after we saw a basket sitting there under the heat lamp, but the employee made us a fresh one without us even asking. It was 3 large pieces of hot, fresh, lightly crispy, and super tasty and juicy chicken breast over a basket of French fries. Dare I say it was pretty close to Raising Cane's on this day. I hope it's just as good next time we get it. I got the prepackaged seasonal grilled chicken salad. It looked small but was a decent amount of chicken. It also had fresh strawberries, dried cranberries, and shaved cheese on a bed of spring mix. Standard good. Pricing is pretty decent as well. The thing I really miss from some 25 years ago are the zoo fries: animal shaped French fries. Those back in the day were simply magical. If they brought those back, I'd become a $1000 level zoo donor immediately. read more

Food here is pretty decent. I prefer this eatery among compared to the others in the zoo. The burger is solid and comes with fries. Chicken Tenders are hit and Miss. they offer kids meal here as well. Service is usually good but sometimes not great when they are busy. You can dine inside or outside. read more

I love their chicken strips and fries. I always ask for a fresh batch and they always provide it. It can take a while to get through the line especially if it's busy but it's usually due to other customers being slow or stupid. Nice environment right next to the giraffes. What chaos. The cashier was clueless. The lounge till forever looking to get through and there was only a few people ahead of us. Clearly she wasn't trained well. We ordered a side of fries and a simple salad and she wanted to charge us extra for salad dressing! What?! I'm getting salad and I need to pay extra for a key component? Of course I complained about it and another employee said the salad comes with dressing. Well it would be great if ALL THE EMPLOYEES were familiar with their products. Ugh. And during all this confusion, our fries were getting cold. They really need to find a more effective way to get the line living so purple font stand there with hot food waiting to pay. When we walk to the condiment table to get plastic ware there was a huge pump jug of ranch dressing. Sigh. After all that about the damn dressing! Wow! Anyway, looking for a table that was clean was a joke, so I grabbed some paper towels and a bit of water and cleaned the table myself. Coming from a food service background it irks me when there are ample employees, minimal guests and the cleaning is lacking. Only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the salad was actually good. Zoo Grill is ok for a decent snack, especially if you haven't brought your own food. The burgers, hot dogs, chicken strips, fries, etc. are all comparable to most fast food restaurants. And when the weather makes you want to seek shelter, like today's warm up, its the only spot in the entire zoo where you can dine indoors. The A/C can actually get downright cold. You may also want to request your food prepared fresh, they tend to pre-cook and then place menu items under a heat lamp for the cafeteria style line. However during busy hours, food is constantly being prepared and placed there. There is also a 10% discount with an annual zoo membership card which I always take advantage of. Located at the entry to the Winnick Family Children's Zoo at the Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens is the Zoo Grill with lots of great dining options for the entire family. Their menu features hot carved sandwiches, chicken tenders, specialty salads, burgers, nachos, snacks and ice cold drinks. There were many tables available for seating including both indoor and outdoor options. My daughter chose to dine indoors close to their television screen showcasing animals from the Zoo. We shared a decent sized container full of nachos, which ended up being the perfect size for us to fill up on. My daughter enjoyed being able to dip her own chips into the salsa and cheese before taking a bite. Both flavorful and went pretty well together. I washed it all down with a cola (Pepsi products sold here, sadly no Coke.) and we were off on our feet again full, refreshed and revived, ready to tackle the rest of the park. read more

Pretty expensive for the quality of food you get if you ask me. Not only did this food made me sick. First thing we did when we got to the zoo was eat here at Zoo Grill. 30mins later I started to feel a bit upset to my stomach. We eventually had to leave after another hour past because I just wanted to sit. On the way home I threw up and was sick for two days throwing up. The next day my poor daughter was sick and she was throwing up. Wouldn't recommend this place go elsewhere yuck. read more

After about half way through our zoo safari we got hungry and ended up here at the zoo grill . I was pleasantly surprised at the selection they had and at the freshness of the food . There is not much to this quick service joint, although I've found the pizza to be tasty and they have 3 beers on tap. An added bonus: outside the restaurant is dipping sauce station with tons for the lil' dipper inside of you! I love filling a paper ramekin here with ranch then adding hot sauce to dip my pizza in. The hotdog is very similar to a dodger dog, I'll give them that. My daughter really enjoyed the burger. She usually has it plain, only bun and meat. So you know that the meat has to be seasoned right or else she wouldn't even think of finishing it. The prices are to high for hot dogs and burgers. Brenda the cashier here is so rude! She barely took our order, and had no manners! Every worker here is incredibly slow, rude, and looks extra confused. Along with the horrible customer service, the food is worse. Not fresh at all, tastes old and the cooks seem highly untrained. The quality of the food is not worth the high ridiculous prices. The inside of the place is dirty, abandoned, and no one cares to clean it up. Overall, we regret choosing this place to eat and it kind of killed the vibe to our first time here. One of my kids had a cheese burger its taste was comparable to burger king or McDonald's, and tasty. The fries were good too, my two children shared them and couldn't finish they were so full, it was a good size for two 9 year olds to share. My other child had a turkey sandwich with hand carved turkey, it was average tasting, she took one bite and we put the rest in foil so she could finish it later. I had a really delicious salad with dried cherries, goat cheese, and chicken breast which was smoky tasting and fresh. It was really good if you like goat cheese. read more
