What a brilliant idea! ZoomCare is like the Trader Joe's of urgent care clinics. I received excellent and efficient service at a really reasonable price. When I called their number I expected to be told to come in and wait (for hours), but instead I was given an actual appointment. Additionally, because they have so many locations, I had the option of taking a different appointment time at a different location. Nice. I found out that you can even make your appointment online and see what's available at the various locations. Really nice. When I walked in the clinic, the first thing I noted was that it was very clean and that the reading material in the waiting room was definitely better than what one would normally find. I was early for my appointment and although I was tempted by the Calvin and Hobbes anthology in the kids' play area, I settled down with a really interesting book on medical history. Also, because of their appointment system, the waiting room wasn't full of contagious people waiting to be seen. Right at my appointment time (or possibly a few minutes early, I didn't check the time because I was engrossed in reading about how early blood transfusions were done with animal blood!), I was greeted and led to my exam room. The care I received was quick but it didn't feel rushed. The doctor took the time to listen to all I had to say and asked quite a few follow up questions of her own and took her time with the exam. I was confident that her diagnosis was spot-on and that I was on the mend. I asked the doctor if this was a national chain, and she said no, that it was started in Portland by a couple of doctors. All I can say is that if I have to get sick and need urgent care of the non-emergency room variety, I hope it happens in Portland! read more

Very nice, clean place, very efficient. Getting in and out was a breeze. I highly recommend them for all of your non-emergency but "sooner than later" doctor needs. My condolences to the guy who got the mis-diagnosis. All I can say is doctor's are guilty of snap judgments everywhere you go. We had the same Primary Care place for years before moving here, and they missed a number of things (thankfully nothing as serious as what you went through) but got most everything right. I decided to see a doctor at 10am on a Saturday. Went online, made an appointment for 11:45, showed up 10mins early, waited 4 mins and the doctor came out and greeted me! Walked out 30mins later, bandaged up, prescription in hand and a cost of $115 for a procedure that I thought was going to run 3-5x that amount! I am insured. Super nice doctor, with great bedside manners. The place is clean and quiet. I saw only 2 other patients while I was there; one walking out and one walking in! I will go here again in a heartbeat! I have been to Zoomcare twice. Once was for a sinus infection and the soonest my PCP could see me was in about 3 days (and costs $180), the other was because I wanted a wart frozen off my finger and my dermatologist charges $360 for the visit and $360 for the procedure. Both times I was able to schedule an appointment within the next 45 minutes, but had my choice of a variety of times. Both times I was seen exactly on time, treated with respect, had the charges explained to me, and felt like my needs were being met. They also did not prescribe antibiotics for my sinus infection, as they suspected it was just viral, but they did do a throat swab for strep just to make sure. That seems thorough to me. The second time they had this new system where you pay your coinsurance while you're there. That's awesome! No bill to remember to pay later! Also, the front desk staff seems awesome. The first time I was there a girl showed up late for her appointment, due to traffic, with bronchitis. The receptionist assured her she wouldn't be charged for the late appointment. Since this location was booked for the rest of the day and the girl needed a Dr's note for work or would lose her job, the receptionist helped the girl by finding the closest next appointments, even explaining the best places to find parking at the Pearl location. I am leaving my PCP, likely either just to ZoomCare or a combination of a private clinic and ZoomCare. read more

I am not happy with my one experience with Zoom Care. I came down with a sore throat and I knew that I had been exposed to someone with Strep throat. So I made an appointment with Zoom Care to have a strep rapid test done. Online, it said the strep test would cost $20. When I got in the exam room the Physician assistant gave me the strep test and then proceeded to check my ears and nose and throat. she also listened to my lungs briefly. In total the visit was about 10 minutes from entry to exam room to leaving. To my surprise, Zoom care wanted to charge me $299 for this 10 minute visit. That is an hourly rate of $1000. At no point before I was handed the bill, did anyone say how much this exam would cost me. I balked at the bill and threatened to not pay. In the end I paid $20 plus half the amount of the "exam". Since I only wanted to have a strep test I should have only been charged for a strep test. In the end, I am still considering disputing the charge for the 1/2 payment of the exam. That was a BS exam that found nothing I didn't know already. I had a common cold! Update: Their customer care has contacted me after I emailed them my experience... I can't say I was impressed with that either. Just a re-iteration of their "must have useless exam" policy. read more

I was initially impressed with the online appointment for Saturday morning. However, it went downhill from there as it was zoom in, zoom pay($123) and zoom out. I was suffering from an intestinal problem and the NP said that I would need to submit stool samples before she could make a diagnosis. I went to Rite-Aid, made a self-diagnosis and bought a $22 supply of Probiotic which cleared-up all of my issues after 3-5 days of treatment. I cannot recommend ZoomCare. read more

I've always had great service here and the front desk people have always been super cool. Especially CJ (? I am terrible with names but he had a two-initial name) he is fantastic. The doctors here have great bedside manner and are happy to actually talk to you and answer questions. I was expecting to be treated like I was at a fast-food restaurant, but it was actually WAY better service and way less "attitude" that I get at my doctor's office at Portland Clinic. ZoomCare seems to me to be the IKEA of health care options - kind of generic, not real cozy, gets the job done...our receptionist today had magenta hair & her fingers bore the tell-tale signs of a recent home dye job. Probably not the most comforting vision for those of us who may be under the weather...the orange walls & plastic white chairs don't do much for me, but the diagnosis was fast. The Big Man has Influenza A, not pneumonia, which, I guess, is the better of 2 evils...If you have to get relatively fast health care & you've got $139.00, it seems...adequate...sigh...I really miss living in a socialist country... read more

Having gone twice to this locate in a month for the same issue, for a VERY embarrassing issue, I was nothing short of amazed. Basically, I felt like I was loosing my mind, you know, going "nuts"! Yet, I was treated by every single staff member, even the office- and housekeeping-staff, as anything but. They ALL approached me with upmost respect, humanity, dignity, and in a very caring, gentle way. On my initial visit, Amelia Evans, M.D. was the lucky recipient of my insanity that icy day. After waiting only 5 minutes, she came into the waiting area, approached me forthrightly, making eye contact, and extending her left hand, which, because of the look of caring and confidence I saw in her eyes, I took in my own and shook firmly. That was her first treatment approach, and it was already working. I felt better, seriously, after shaking her hand. I felt that I had someone on my side, someone who saw that I was obviously in great pain and distressed, and she was someone who was willing to help me. And she was! I've no idea how she even managed to understand what I was saying, as I'd not slept more than 20-40 minutes continuously, for over a month, and couldn't sit still, rocking, twitching and talking quite rapidly, babbling actually, knowing I was not making any sense. But, somehow, Amy was able to follow me down the rabbit hole, and bring me back out....gently, in one piece, & the right size. (Would've been nice if she'd left 70 or so pounds of me down there, but she's not a magician, just a humble doctor, not one for cosmetic surgery either.) She listened. She gave answers when needed, and she devised a treatment plan so I could begin feeling better THAT VERY DAY! And I didn't need to make yet another trip to the pharmacy that day, either, as all the medications which I require were already stocked at ZoomCare, and were reasonably prized, like paying a co-pay at Walgreens. Not having to make another stop, knowing that I could go home, take what was prescribed, and finally get some rest, was well worth the trip, especially because on that particular day, the town was just about shut down, roads being dangerously iced over, newscasters repeating the announcement that all who needn't go out, should STAY HOME. As my need, my suffering, my "craziness" was so great, I, in fact, needed to travel on those icy roads, even with no sleep, vertigo, twitches & all. (Toyota T100, 4-whelel drive. Before moving to town in 2005, we lived way out in the boonies on the slopes Mt. Spokane, with neighbors miles apart, more moose than deer many days, coyotes serenading us at night, wolves answering, wild turkey in abundance [ever had a FRESH turkey for Thanksgiving?!?] & a 30 degree sloped 1/2 mile curved driveway...and never, not once, did I get stuck at home.) So, that was my first experience with ZoomCare.... My second visit was yesterday, when I showed up right at the 9a.m. opening, as Multnomah Crisis Hotline advised me to do during a prior 3hour phone call I had with them, which starting at 5:30a.m. I somehow thought that by calling the 24hour Crisis hotline recommended on The ZoomCare website for after-hours "emergencies", at 5:30a.m. rather than at anytime from midnight to 5:29 a.m., it would somehow be less rude than calling between midnight & 5:29a.m., which is why I waited those extra 4 hours and 29 minutes, instead of calling anytime, like a normal nut job would do. See, even amongst my own kind, I'm exceptional. Its good to be exceptional at all you do, don't you think? Anyway, that's just the lovely Jewish way I was raised. And it stuck....at least for 4hours and 29 minutes. Mandy Blumer, P.A. was on duty. Her initial approach with me, when she came to retrieve me from the waiting room, was similar to Dr. Amy's, and was, I'm sure, a great joy and relief for the poor unfortunate, sweet, lovely & kind receptionist, who tried as she might, found no help for me, no right tea or temperatured water, to relax me, or just to make me calm to f*#* down. Sorry, sweet lady! Babbling more than usual, she was able to cipher that the treatment plan made by Dr. Amy last time had been a perfect one, had I followed through. Dr. Amy had set me up the very next day, miracle of miracles, to see Annna Cox, PRNP, psychiatric nurse. Had it not been for the sleep deprivation, severe anxiety & stress over the past few months, I very well would have kept my appointment, but as any of your fellow vestibular disorder sufferers out there know, an attack can happen randomly, and they do, usually causing the most collateral damaging to your life, causing such added bonuses as having to drop out of medical school for a semester because you missed the midterm, final, or oral thesis presentation; your life-partner was serious when it was said that "this WAS" the last time you'll ever keep them waiting alone without so much as a phone call", not completely understanding how its possible in any conceivable circumstance ...see P2 read more

Absolutely the worst quality, worst attention to detail, worst follow through, worst everything. They have consistently been a nightmare to deal with. Examples: * Went to see them the first time, the "doctor" (just a PA, not a NP or MD) did not even know the basics about my (common) medical condition nor how to spell the (common) medications I was on. As far as I can tell there are no actual MDs on staff there. * When I talked to an MD on the phone (from some other office it sounds like), they gave me false medical advice, saying I would "have a heart attack" if I stopped the medication I'd been on for just a few weeks. When I went in, the PA said that the MD gave incorrect info, and I'd be fine. Yikes. * They did not follow through with my insurance company properly, using incorrect codes, not obtaining authorizations, etc., for referrals, labs, etc. I have been battling this over and over again with them and the worst part is, when you call them you're actually sent to a main switchboard - NOT the actual office on Alberta, where the person on the line clearly has no medical training or background. * I asked them on several occasions to call my prescription in to my pharmacy which they say they'll do and get to the pharmacy later to find out they've never been called. I then - twice - called from the pharmacy and had to wait HOURS for them again to get the prescription faxed in. It's absolutely ridiculous. * Talking to one of the staff about a diagnosis was like talking to an embarrassed teenager - they couldn't even use the proper words! Wow. * When I had another insurance problem and couldn't get through by phone, I gave them my wife's number as a backup. The PA got a hold of me, told me she was taking care of the (insurance) problem. then proceeded to leave FIVE repeat voicemails on my wife's number. * The latest is they told me I needed a blood test (even though I'd just had a full panel done at my other doctor which they could have obtained the results), and then proceeded to code it incorrectly so it was denied by insurance, and once again I'm dealing with their lack of professionalism, basic care, and billing snafus (which they still refuse to fix). They may be easy to get an appointment with but I would NEVER recommend using them as a primary care "doctor", and he is the process of moving over to a new one right away. What a nightmare place - drive-through medicine with people who could really care less about getting things right the first time. read more

* This applies to ZOOM in general, not a specific location. This place is convenient, but their billing practices and level of professionalism are sub-standard. I clearly explained to the receptionist that my insurance claim from an accident would not cover my appointment and attempted to pay out of pocket. She insisted I give her the claim number anyway. Her words were, if insurance doesn't cover it, we will just send you a bill... As I predicted, insurance did not cover it, and I did get a bill - for 2x the original amount! Because they had attempted to process it through insurance, $149 became $299, and now I had to pay it all. After several months and phone calls arguing, they reduced it slightly as a "courtesy," adding to the insult. My advice for ZOOM: Get employees who know and explain your policies up front. If your employees make mistakes, fix it for the client. You will NEVER have my business again and I hope other consumers punish you for your bad practices when they read this review. read more

Yes, ZoomCare is efficient and there is a clinic everywhere. Great. Scheduling is a breeze. Great. BUT the actual doctor/medical experience is horrible. I went to see them between meetings, feeling lousy, and the doctor was so quick that I'd say she was impatient and in a hurry. On top of that, I was completely misdiagnosed. They gave me a "Oh yeah, no big deal, drink lots of water" suggestion when it took a real doctor, 2 days later, to tell me I had pneumonia. They are good at getting you in, but they hardly know how to treat you once you are there. Save yourself from needing multiple appointments and go to your primary care instead. read more

In dire need of antibiotics on a Saturday morning, I headed here. Check-in took 2 minutes, and then I was off to pee in a cup and be seen by their PA. As the other review mentions, everything is paperless/wireless, and just as I was getting settled in, the PA (reading off a chat or an e-mail or something from her laptop) mentioned my urine results were in. As suspected, I had a UTI, so she e-faxed my local Fred Meyer the standard Cipro prescription. She gave me a physical examination, went over my medical history briefly, and discussed my antibiotic regimen. I was in and out of the place in 20 minutes, but I still felt that I was given adequate medical attention without rush. I paid $89 for the visit (no insurance, though they do accept it) plus $10 for the urine test. Even with insurance, I will still come back here. This is a great, forward-thinking model for accessible, affordable, thorough health care. read more

My experience at Zoom Care was horrible. First they are suppose to be on time and I was in a time crunch. The PA was 20 minutes late. When I addressed this issue with the receptionist she said I could not reschedule for tomorrow as I was already checked in, even though it was clearly their fault. The price is also a rip off, yes I am lucky and only paid a 20 co pay, but $127 for 15 minutes with a PA. Please, that is more expensive than my doctor. I guess it just wasn't what it promised for me. If I want bad service and over priced bull shit I will just go to the normal doctor. read more

Always fast and friendly here. I was in a panic because of a blotch that showed up on my leg after getting back from Mexico. It was rapidly getting worse and so I decided it was time to make sure it wasn't serious. They were able to get me in right away and turns out it was just an allergic reaction...phew! For the past 5 years or so I've only been going to the various zoomcares around town and I prefer it way more than having a regular doctor. I get in the same day, they take insurance, their cash prices are pretty fair and the staff has always been super welcoming and helpful. Two thumbs up :-) read more

I very rarely have positive experiences with medical professionals. I usually feel overwhelmed, rushed, pressured, and ignored. Because of that, I don't even have a primary care provider anymore, but after today, I hardly think I need one. For a long time I thought Zoom was only for emergencies, or people without health insurance. A friend of mine with the same health insurance recently went there and had mentioned it - double the normal copay, but immediate care. After four days of severe headaches and three weeks of congestion following a cold, I decided to make an appointment. It was easy to do so - online, no phone call needed, same day... just the way I like it. My provider (was she a doctor? i'm not sure and don't care) was SO nice, greeted me with a handshake when I was feeling plague-ridden, listened patiently while I tried to gather all the relevant details and spit it out. Usually I start to get tongue-tied, cut off in the middle with a "yeah that's enough" equivalent from the nurse or doctor, but I found myself able to describe all of my symptoms, plus more minor details that could effect a diagnosis. WEIRD. She took down relevant history and asked clarifying questions. It's angering in retrospect that this felt so out of the ordinary... I can see why some other reviews suggest they are a scrip-pushing chain store - I left with three prescriptions and the appointment didn't take more than 1/2 an hour. However, I'm used to getting at least as many from any regular physician (whether or not I need it), plus a lot of hassle and attitude. And in this case, when I'm trying to get healthy and go back to work, I need some straightforward modern medicine. And the copay? Just $1.99 more than normal. read more

This was a terrible experience. I waited 5 days for send out strep test results after calling repeatedly and found they sent to a gmail address when I had given them a yahoo address. I had two other tests I never received results on as the specimen was 'compromised' - I learned this a WEEK after the blood draw and only because I repeatedly called. The 'help desk' was uncaring and said oh you will just need to come in for a redraw of blood. I will never use zoom care again. read more

If only all health care centers were like this. The amount of care and thoroughness that they put into analyzing and treating my sickness was unbelievable. I've never experienced that sort of thoroughness or genuine concern from doctors. I walked in and was seen in 10 minutes and knew what I was paying ahead of time by looking at their fixed prices listed online. They even gave me a free check-in appointment just to monitor my reaction to the medication. I got the overall impression that they are onto something good here and mean what they do. This is great for uninsured people like myself who see the lack of thorough care in low income clinics, but of course it was a little more spendy. Well worth it if you can do it. read more

Sure, you can get an appointment super fast.....but..... They over charge, possibly miss charge, AND they sold me to a collection agency (rather quickly after the visit I might add). I have sent my payments to them as soon as I could and then started getting those collection agency phone calls. Constant phone calls about something you have already overpaid for, and possibly a blemish on my credit record=This is bad for anyone's health and well being. I have never had this happen in all the many years that I have gone to a doctor, eye doctor, or acupuncturist, natural doctor, or dentist. read more

I was told that I could have a specific test done at this location by the receptionist. I asked before setting up an appointment if I could get this test done. "Yes", they said and proceeded to schedule me in.Once I was called back to the doctor, she informed me that they couldnt do it there. Then prescribed me medication that I didnt need (another doctor, a specialist said so) and as I left feeling a little confused of what just happened, I was asked to pay the co-pay. Not until after did I realize I initially went in for a specific test to be done. If you have specific issues, I would avoid this place. I felt as if it was fast food health service. After seeing a specialist who told me what I actually needed, I felt like I just wasted money and time by going to zoomcare. If I had a small problem, I feel these doctors are able to take care of you. For anything demanding thorough attention, go somewhere else. read more

I was 7 minutes late to a 3pm appt. when it was snowing in downtown Portland. For those of you that aren't familiar with what happens when it snows in Portland, IT SLOWS DOWN EVERYTHING! These ridiculous people at this location wouldn't let me keep my appt. and looked me straight in the eye when I'm sick as a dog and told me sorry, you'll have to reschedule. It took everything in me not to have a mental breakdown and break many objects in their lobby. Sad day and now I'm not sure where to go for urgent care, guess I'll start over searching. Plenty of appointment slots makes it a much quicker option than a primary care or even urgent care. The staff has been pleasant. My family uses Zoomcare for most non-chronic health issues these days, since it's so much easier than getting an appointment w/ our PC. Our experiences have always been good. They're incredibly efficient (I'm usually in and out of there in fifteen minutes), very friendly, and the NPs, PAs, and support staff all seem competent and engaged with quality patient care. read more

I love Zoom Care. I've been in twice and it was always quick to get in and I got what I needed. Afterwards, I didn't get any surprise crazy medical bills. I believe that as long as we live in a capitalist medical system, it's our right to to know what we are paying for, how much, and up front. A simple transparent system. This is basic, fair and reasonable. I hope the Zoom model is so successful that more health care businesses get the picture. If I was going shoe shopping and I had to wait for a month for an appointment to have a doctor recommend the best shoes for me, then a month later get a $900 bill for a special sizing test I needed and the 10 mins he spent with me, I'd be pissed. My 90 year old mother was thought to have a UTI. We took a test strip and confirmed that something was up. Brought her to Zoom, they did not have an appointment for a few hours so they contact another Zoom, this one on NE Alberta. Although the appointment was not for another hour, they nicely saw us early. They basically had me, a layperson, 52 year old son, collect her urine. They then took a stab at treating with an antibiotic. Turns out it was not the correct one, the urine sample I collected was contaminated (surprise, surprise) and my mother went several more days suffering the ravages of the UTI. She eventually ended up in the ER and admitted to get a clear urine sample and the correct medication. You would think for over $300 and coming in announcing a UTI, they would both to professionally handle 'their' patient. After all, they charge professionally. Not really impressed and what, now that she has had days of suffering, it could have made things worse for her, what if its in her kidneys? She was also suffering pronounced dehydration. Lab results from Zoom showed a compromised urine sample. read more

I was sent to the Alberta Street location to get my blood drawn because "drawing blood is Casey's favorite thing ever." At first I thought the person scheduling my appointment was being sarcastic, but quickly learned that drawing blood really is Casey's favorite thing ever. I have never met someone more enthused to take a sample of my blood, tell me about blood and joke around with me while it was done. Casey was an absolute delight and even made a fancy bow design on my tape at the end. In a world of compulsive technology checking, and staring at the clock, it's nice to meet people who are SO engaged and seem genuinely excited to be at work helping other people.
