Zorba's is so good! Fairly authentic Greek food in my opinion. The mousaka is very delicious, everything it should be with nothing it shouldn't! The lamb & cheese steaks always looks good but I always dig the Fasolia Plakeé. The thought of their Baklava makes my mouth water. The woman that owns Zorbas is always friendly and their whole family has been running the business since they started over 40 years ago. Let's get straight to the point, DC ain't cheap and unless you're traveling on an expense account, dinners in the Capitol's ubiquitous pretentious, over-priced, hipster joints can be a soul-sucking budget-buster. Thankfully, Zorba's offers a comparatively inexpensive escape from the Armani suit crowd. Located just off the DuPont Circle Metro stop, and open late (11:30 PM on week nights), Zorba's is a cozy Greek café with food that's several notches above your average gyro joint. Certainly not fancy, but comfortable. I usually order the Combo Plate (souvlaki, gyro slices, kefte, dolmathes, rice, dolmathes, tzatziki, hommus and pita), together with a glass of wine. Normally drop abut $20 - $30. (OK, maybe I have two glasses of wine.) Leave stuffed, happy, and ready to face another day inside the beltway! read more

Really meant for the lunch crowd, i.e. folks who work in Dupont. The food is not bad, if you like Greek food this will hit the spot. The best thing going for Zorba's is it's location with 2 floors of seating and lack of Greek food competition. The decor is appropriate for a downtown lunch spot, casual, and a step or two above bare walls. The portions, however, are SMALL. I'm not the biggest girl on this side of the block, but I would still need to eat 2 of their platters in order to get full. Also, keep in mind that I'm disappointed over all with the quality of affordable eats in DC (and I'm being generous by saying that 'affordable' is a meal under $15). Delicious food and good prices. I had the $13 vegetarian plate which was HUGE and seemed to have every vegetarian thing on the menu piled on it. I also had the feta dip which was really rich and spicy and babaganoush. Everything was very yummy and portions were enormous. Only gripe is I really don't like that there isn't table service. I mean I don't need a waiter to take my order and everything but if they could just like give you a number and have someone bring your food to you (like Cosî) that would make it a much better dining experience. Oh Zorba's, you just broke my heart. I loved you for your Chicken Souvlaki, Combo Plate, and Hummus. BUT, I just ate the Falafel Plate. I got the platter to go and the salad was a good size, and they give you 6 falafel patties on pita and hummus - so this seemed promising. But no, the falafel which is a bit mushy (which I actually liked) has a strange burnt after taste. Is that a spice? It's terrible. Did they fry it in burnt oil? Disgusting. Zorba, you just left a terrible taste in my mouth and you certainly did not saisfy my falafel craving. read more

Great local spot with food that is delicious and not too expensive. The baba ganoush and tzatziki were really fresh and tasty, as were the falafel balls. I ordered the tabouli which was sooo fresh and lemony which was exactly what i wanted. My family ordered the combination platters, gyro, greek salad and they all loved their as well. We got the spanakopita on the side and that was not impressive but everything else was great. The service was really awesome as well. It is a small family owned restaurant and you can tell they really care about their customers. Overall, definitely recommend!! I went here with a couple of friends and I loved it! It was the first time one of my friends tried any type of Greek food or even Lamb (believe it or not) and she loved it too! I got the Yéro Plate (or Gyro) for $11.50 and it was DEEE-LICIOUS! I have had plenty of gyros some good and some very bad! But Zorba's had the best gyro's I have ever tasted. Zorba's serves good, solid Greek food. It isn't going to change your life, but it is a pretty dependable option if you're hungry in DuPont and are looking for dinner. The prices are oddly high for a restaurant without waiter service, but the setting is spacious and I usually don't have trouble finding a seat (even if I am with a big group). I'd avoid the spanakopita (it is kind of uninspired) and stick with other classics such as the Greek salad or vegetarian plate. Let me just say, having grown up in a largely Greek neighborhood and no longer being at home, I had really been looking for some good Greek food in the DC area. I'm happy to say Zorbas fits the bill, as I am already a huge fan of this place. I've been a couple times now, but I have to say the yero plate is my favorite, as you get plenty of beef and lamb, on a warm (possibly homemade?) pita bread, along with fries or rice and a side salad. There is both an option for sit down and take out, and the front where you order is more cafeteria style, but still fancy enough that you could go here and still feel like you went to nice place. Everyone that has worked the register while I've been there has been friendly and happy to answer questions, and as mentioned above the food is great. Just as a side note, I personally have always gotten dishes with huge portions, however my friend the other day got the steak and cheese sub (I think that was the name) and it seemed relatively small for the price. However, the entree plates are great, and consistently have provided me with a lot of food for the price. If you are ever around the Dupont Circle area, you should definitely check this place out! read more

If you need a place for a wedding rehearsal dinner (or other group event), you should consider Zorba's. If Greek food and a casual atmosphere meets your needs, it should be on your list. The management worked with us in person to discuss our needs and took care of the details. We used their semi-private upstairs dining area and they set up a buffet of food and drinks based on our discussion. During the event, they were responsive and the food was ready on time and amazing. This is the second time we have been at Zorba. Over all, we like the place. One beef we have with Zorba is that is their menu just has too much beef (he he). Really a problem for those who don't eat beef. Our orders included falafel sandwiches, couple of half chicken roasts, chicken souvlaki platter. The falafel was really good, one of us complained about a but too much humus though (others thought it was fine). The roast was very good, and the spice used smelled real nice. The souvlaki was juicy, perfect infact. Came with great bread and fries. The one appetizer we got was a roe based dip. This didn't work out very well for us. The roe-y taste was too weak, the whole thing rather sour. Oh well. read more

Maybe I'm being a little too harsh with this place because I'm so crushed that Fresh Med no longer delivers to me (although I only moved 4 blocks from my old place, grrrrrrrr) but this place was a HUGE disappointment. I did delivery with this so I've never been inside the restaurant and have no comments about a dining experience there. I was in the mood for some Greek food and papa johns pizza( hungover Saturday...) so I decided to not do the ordering from 2 different places and just order it all from Zorbas. I ordered the falafel plate and a small cheese pizza with mushrooms. I have never had a pizza cooked this badly. Barely any cheese on it, or mushroom, or sauce... so basically not a pizza. Falafel's had a blah flavor to them and the hummus was blah as well. Won't be ordering from here again so I'm still on the hunt to find a good Greek place that delivers to me! read more

We went to Zorba's as we were craving Greek food and didn't want to spend an arm and a leg at a "sit-down" super nice place. We really liked what Zorba's had to offer. I got the Gyro and my wife and her friend got the Kobob plate and salad. We all loved it! Definitely also recommend the garlic pita but be advised it is the size of a pizza! Overall, would definitely come back. It is a little spendy, but it is DC so you have to expect it. read more

Zorba's Cafe has been a favorite restaurant of mine since it opened, because of the scrumptious, delicious food & the welcoming, charming, warm & gracious staff. Now they have both takeout & delivery during the current Covid-19 pandemic, & value the safety & health of all customers above all other factors, while continuing with their impeccable service & fabulous & reasonably priced Greek cuisine. I cannot pick one favorite, though the chicken kabob & souvlaki plates, gyro plates & spanakopita & lentil soup are particularly mouth watering to me. I like this place, not because the food is terribly good, or because the space is terribly nice, its just a pretty solid place. The food is consistantly good, a pretty good deal, and the location/outdoor patio is really good in nice weather. The whole operation is pretty basic. The food is simple and the service is counterfront, with busboys coming around to clear tables every 10 minutes or so. A big plus about Zorba's is that they serve pitchers of Mythos, which while on its own isnt fantastic, brings back memories of the overall wonderful trip i had to greece. The gyro-pita is good as are the various platters. The falafel is also pretty good. I've never tried the pizza, but it actually looks decent. As people have said, the food isnt anything terribly good, but it is tasty. Zorba's is a great place to grab a quick meal and some beers for lunch or dinner or after work. the patio is quite nice too. read more

Like others, I find the seat-yourself-then-go-order-at-the-counter operation to be somewhat off-putting. I wonder why there isn't someone inside the door to greet customers. I read other Yelpers' comments about bland food. I didn't entirely have the same experience. I ordered calamari (which was unsalted and, I concede, bland on its own) that came served with lemon and a sauce in a small ramekin. Listen, it was anything but bland. In fact, if you aren't a garlic fan I suggest you steer clear because it was very flavorful (by that I mean garlicky!). The sauce also featured tomatoes, onions and peppers which medlied well. Luckily for me, I enjoy garlic. I ordered a tzaziki as an accompaniment which, too, had a lot of garlic. I thought $4 was a fair price but I also thought the portion was small for its cost. The walls were adorned with reviews, mostly from Washingtonian. I'm not from the area, so I don't know the magazine...but I'm suspicious that it's one of those outfits that gives good reviews to their advertisers or allows businesses to rate themselves. Most of their awards were for "cheap eats." My calamari was $11, the tzaziki $4, and a brand named sparking water $3...fair, but far from cheap eats. read more

We stopped in late night right before closing for a pizza. We ordered the Rodos since you can't go wrong with onion and fresh sliced tomatoes. I was presently surprised with the chicken. The chicken was marinated and charred, making for a delectable meal. Even better, we took half home and it stood the test of time and was pretty good the next day as leftovers. I'm a big fan of Greek food in general so I'll certainly be back to try a gyro or souvlaki which looked and smelled amazing. This place reminds me of a bad greek street cart in NYC that just happened to gain traction because it is right at the heart of Dupont. The actual kitchen/cashier counter is grungy and dirty. There is often a line to order and then to pick up your food, and you are cramped against a stained wall and a counter with fake flowers... it's tacky and the food isn't even good enough to render all of this endearing and unique. The outdoor seating is a nice option, but the food just isn't good enough. It's overpriced, greasy... And a greek staple, the greek salad, is the best way to measure this place up. I tried it, and it does not pass the test. This place may have a monopoly on greek in the neighborhood, but hopefully some competition will shed some light on some really good greek food. read more

It is one of my favorite Greek restaurants (only beaten out by a little joint in Astoria Queens we visit with friends) in the world. Their tzatziki is incredible. Their fries are delicious. The moussaka was tasteless, the spinach pie overly buttery, and the food was overall way overpriced in proportion to the quality. Stood at the counter to order and were actively ignored by the two people working there. For a long while. There was one other customer. They wouldn't look at us, or answer when we spoke to them. One continued a personal conversation the other just pretended he couldn't see us. Yeah I know I sound like a karen! I know we're in Covid time. But if you're unable serve food to potential customers, just say so! We left. Went across the street to Rakuya. We were told that they were closed. Zorbas was just right for a group of four of us last Saturday evening. We weren't expecting much after how we were treated at Kramerbooks (walked out after waiting almost 45 minutes for our table to be ready - and we HAD a reservation while other walk-in parties of similar size were seated ahead of us - see my review there). Walking into Zorbas was heaven. Ordering from the counter avoided a bill-splitting discussion. Nice table open upstairs at a busy time (about 8 pm), just the right type and amount of lighting. Great food, enjoyed the bottle of red wine they suggested. We had the Vegetarian Planner, Combo Planner, baba ghanoush (really nice texture, not over-processed) and the baklava was exquisite with a very floral honey used that gave it a wonderful unique flavor/aroma. I have only visited this place only. But I was very satisfied with what I ate. Pros: I ordered a falafel sandwich for myself. I was amazing. Also, on my table pizza, pita chips were also ordered. They were all amazing. Cons: This is a self service restaurant. You have to order the food inside, grab a buzzer and find a table for yourself. This is not so much of a turnoff but if you are looking for a full service restaurant, this is not where you should dine. I would definitely recommend this place for vegetarians and vegans. I've been passing by this cute place in DuPont forever and finally decided to try it - it did not disappoint! For COVID the street in front is shut down so they now have a huge outdoor dining area in addition to their cute patio. I hope they can keep it because it was a great experience- felt very European. There even happened to be live music in the park across the street - perfect date night atmosphere without the date night prices of the DC standards (our entrees were $17 each). The lamb with Orzo was particularly tasty, and I was surprised by how much I liked my partner's order of kefte, which is not usually my favorite. The half carafe of house red was a good amount for the two of us (and fun to say). I am personally a fan of their setup - order at the counter and take a number for them to drop of your food, no waiter. It's more economical and I don't personally feel the need to be doted on. Went to Zorba's for a dinner and I am glad I stopped. The atmosphere was great, weather perfect for outside seating. I had walked by the place a few times and didn't realize that you go inside and order from the menu and then select your seat. I had the veggie wrap which was alright. The veggies were fresh but their was so much juice/dressing that it got everywhere while I was eating it. My mom had the Gyro which she said was not what she expected and was very good. We also sampled the Baklava which was amazing. I will definitely be back. read more

Order the appetizer sampler platter - it's not on the menu, but there's a flier about it above the counter where you order. You'll get a sampling of each of their dips, grape leaves, tabouli and pita bread. I found it to be a great way to taste everything to see what I liked. Hummus & Babaganoush (spelling?) were excellent! Pitas were crisp on the outside, slightly chewy inside. The grape leaves were great too - not too sour like I normally find them. Zorba's Cafe is the type of place that I never even notice exists when the temperature is below 75. Once that barrier is breached, outdoor eating at Zorba's becomes perfect. Even though I haven't had much Greek food in the D.C. area, this is the place that I would chose. I'm sure others have their favorites and pick places over Zorba's, but I love their falafel salad, Chicken Gyro Plate, Combination plate, pizza, all of it. The carafes of wine are great for sharing, or if you are feeling hardcore, good for just you. Either way, Zorba's seems to just have that relaxed feeling - maybe its the fact that you dont have to wait on a server, its all order and find a table. I'm fortunate that I work pretty close to Zorba's and that a coworker recommended it to me - although it was always one of those places I'd walk past and mean to try but forget to, until today. As a preface, I usually don't call anything in DC cheap period because even in California food is cheaper and sales tax is ridiculous here; having said that, the prices at Zorba's were pretty good and just a sandwich will fill you up. I had the yero (gyro) sandwich and it was pretty good for about $7 after tax. Everything tasted right; my only bone to pick is that it was a little small and it took a little bit after lunch for that feeling of fullness to sink in. For some people it'll be the perfect portion; for others, you might consider ordering the platter (I probably will next time) with fries. Plenty (no joke) of seats upstairs, downstairs and outside. The orders didn't take that long to be ready and my coworker and I were (unfortunately) back to work fairly promptly. read more

One of the best cheap eateries in the District -- a great place to sit outside on a sunny day with a combo platter and a beer. I don't experiment much with the Zorba's menu, so I can't offer too many thoughts. But the souvlaki and gyro sandwiches are tasty and a good value (get the platters), the pizzas are fresh and not too heavy, and the salads are a good choice, too (though admittedly it is hard to mess up a salad). Top it off with a beer and you've got a good, quick meal for $12 or so. read more
