I hired Zuidema to inspect a septic tank on a house I am purchasing. I called around to get different prices and they are all about the same. However, I see Zuidema trucks all the time all over Bergen county so I figured they must be doing something right. So I hired them. Inspection Day - A service guy named Alex was waiting for me at the schedule time, which means he was early. He was the only one from the company that was there. Let me tell you, this guy busted his ass digging a hole 5 feet down, sweating is his ass off, and forming blisters on his hands. I wanted to help him but he says "nah I got this". He found the tank and did the inspection. He was very thorough throughout the inspection and report. Alex had to return another day due to sunlight going away early the other day, its now "32 degrees outside". This guy had to dig some more and run a camera to do a trench line inspection. I would recommend to anyone and hire again. However, I would only hire again if I get Alex as the service guy. He impressed me so much I don't think I would get the same exceptional service from any other tech. A side note to David Zuidema if you read this: regarding Alex Narrea, I hope you gave a nice year end bonus and raise, he is your top guy! read more

When I had my septic inspected prior to purchasing my home, the septic inspectors hired Zuidema Inc to pump the tank. The technician gave me a business card and I filed it away for future use. Fast forward a few years to when I needed to have the tank pumped as part of general maintenance. Scheduled the appointment easily, and the technician (I wish I remembered his name) showed up a little late, but gave me a courtesy call that he was running late due to a prior job (thank you for that - customer service goes a long way in my book). The technician was friendly, courteous and very helpful (he even helped my neighbor by answering questions). I mentioned that I needed some additional services and the technician said that Zuidema Inc would be able to help. Great experience... ended. I left my septic tank uncovered to have one of the post-pumping services performed - for 3 weeks. I called numerous times asking for the quote (so I could go forward with the service) - each time I got an excuse - "Oh, David is out on a call right now, but he'll look at it when he comes back", or "Oh it's on David's desk, he'll send it to you later today". After 2 weeks of calling and getting the run-around, I covered the tank back up. A week later, I got an email from David providing a list of companies that could do the service for me (none of which were Zuidema Inc). As I said earlier in my review, customer service goes a long way in my book - that is *horrible* customer service to keep me waiting for 3 weeks; if they didn't want to do the job, they should have just said that outright... read more

what a service, the best I could do I had a small reunion at my back yard last weekend and because this pandemic situation, I decide to rent a couple portable toilets, was the best thing I could do, thumbs up to Keyloo and hector, what a nice people great costumer service. if you having and outdoor event do the same get portable toilets. and contact those 2 guys they are great. read more

I'm in total agreement with the poor reviews on Yelp. The customer service is so poor. I spoke with the owner himself and he was completely unprofessional - his tone and interest in customers is so unbelievable and poor. If septic pumping wasn't a complete necessity he would be out of business. He operates as if he is completely aware of this and treats customers with no respect. I had an appointment and no one showed up, I called to find out what happened - they never got back to me....I called again they said they would look into it and didn't get back to me and so I am through with them. He basically told me off and said he is too busy -- I was beside myself. They should NOT offer the the special discount to Highland Lakes Community members in the first place if they don't have capacity! Fortunately for me it is very rare to deal with anyone so unprofessional (the same is true for his other customer service personnel). Everyone at Zuidema acts like you are doing them a big favor by being their customer. My advice - do yourself a favor - stay away from Zuidema. read more

These guys suck. They did the initial inspection on a property I was buying. Quick to fail and report to the town. They came to do some, not all, of the repairs and didn't send a copy of the report with the crew that showed up. So they didn't know what needed to be done. They also didn't bring a machine so they had to come back a second time. They fixed everything but it took numerous calls and emails before they sent a bill to the seller for the repairs she had already paid for. They don't return calls, are totally disorganized, and I never received a satisfactory report even though the work was already done. Big mistake using these clowns. read more

I used this company initially to inspect the septic systems of two different properties I was considering purchasing as a new home. I instantly had a good feeling about the company. Their service men were friendly, thorough, and informative. We decided to go with one of the two properties and requested the septic company mock up an estimate of how much it would cost to fix, so that we could submit it to the sellers. I spoke with the septic company owner and he told me he would get the estimate to me the next day. It took me multiple calls to the company and over a week to get that estimate. Then once we were scheduled to purchase the home I called the septic company to come out to fix the more pressing issues in the septic a day after we were scheduled to move in. Everything was in order until a day before they were to come out, when they rescheduled for the start of the next week due to inclement weather. Thats fine and perfectly understandable. However, come Monday of the next week, when they were scheduled to come out, they sent me an email stating that they would have to reschedule the service for a later, undetermined date. This made me a littler frustrated. The day was bright and sunny and would have been a perfect day to do what we had requested them to do. Furthermore, they gave us no idea of when we were to expect our next reschedule. My husband called to inquire why they rescheduled on us and he was told that the company was just inundated with emergent calls and could not attend to us. I can understand that to a point. However, the estimate of work they provided to us stated it would cost about $7000. That is not an insignificant amount of money...We're not asking for something that can be pushed of for a few weeks. It needs to be fixed as soon as possible We were going without showering, washing our dishes, using the toilet if we could help it. The company kept telling us they would e-mail us to reschedule. But five days went by and we heard nothing. So ultimately I had to call another company, who by the way, came out THAT VERY DAY to rectify the more emergent of our issues. read more

I'm so grateful to David for FINALLY fixing an ongoing flooding problem in my basement. I had multiple plumbers try to track why the slop sink kept flooding...each one gave us multi-thousand dollar solutions. I called Zuidema in a panic when the flooded water was thick, black and smelly. Dave came, assessed the situation and fixed the issue (there was a clog in a pipe going into the main septic line). He did an excellent job and I appreciate his quick response! I have used them for 20 years and they have always given exceptional service. read more

had a clean-out of our septic (we are on a three-year plan for our township) this past thurs. and i have to say i was not looking forward to overseeing this job since i'm a nervous nellie. the ball & chain was at work! anyway, eric arrived and my fears evaporated. he was courteous, competent, quick, patient, and knowledgeable, even when i asked my stupid questions. on the paperwork he left, we look good, now i guess it has to be reviewed by township. only one thing is a correction-we are morris county, not sussex. it was nice to get someone who looked like he had some years of experience behind him. also marveled that the inside of the truck and even his shoes and uniform were clean looking. i hate it when the guys look too young, scruffy or positively filthy. know it's a dirty job, but some degree of professionalism should be there. next will be clean-out of my mom's septic. read more

Over the weekend my boyfriend and I discovered that our septic was backed up. I did a quick Google search and came across Zuidema Septic Service. I was ecstatic that he offered 24/7 Emergency Septic & Cesspool Service. I spoke with a receptionist who took the message during mid-day Saturday and was relieved when I heard back from David just a few hours later. He stated that while he couldn't make it out that night he assured us that he would call us back early the next day to come out and do the job. Well we never heard from him. We left a message at 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning and was never given a call back. So would I recommend him or his unprofessional service to anyone that I know absolutely not! read more

Today was the first time I used Zuidema David Inc Septic Service. They were recommended by a coworker who had good service with them. The grey water line was virtually plugged, causing the washing machine to nearly overflow the slop sink (I have 2 septic systems). I called to make an appointment, and explained I needed the tank pumped and line cleaned. I knew the blockage was between the house and tank as I ran a snake through. I was quoted $195 plus tax. While talking to the guy pumping the tank, I learned the jet cleaning was an additional $275. The owner's son, David, pulled up with the cleaning equipment. When he walked up, I explained what his receptionist quoted me. He said for that price, they wouldn't be able to stay in business. He gave me quite a bit of attitude and said the receptionist knows what the prices are. Apparently this receptionist doesn't know the prices. Being this is the first time I have ever called for septic service, I had no idea of the costs. This is the first house I've owned with a septic system. David took a ladder and went into the tank. He was able to remove the blockage without using the jet cleaner. He did not charge me extra, which I appreciated, however I could have done without the attitude. The tech that pumped the tank was very helpful and pleasant. I will continue to use them since he didn't charge extra to remove the blockage. I'll assume that maybe he just had a bad day. read more

Please watch out when you see them around your house.The driver's drive carelessly directly on your property if they want access to the portopotties for service.They did damage to my property and first when I called I spoke with Melvin ( also sent pictures ) he told me the damage would be fixed. Today another Melvin called me and said the damage will not be fixed because from the picture they don't think it was their truck ( I have a surprise for them ) .How many Melvin's are there ?Do not use this company they will damage your and your neighbor's properties too.They use careless drivers and you will have problems.My advice is to stay away from this company.Now I am planning to proceed with legal action against them read more

Would give them 0 stars. Their office staff is the worst of the worst. Not only are they rude but everyday is their first day on the job. I used them last year when I purchased my home and they screwed up every step of my inspection and install. This year I called for a pumping. Think I had a 12yo kid on the phone who's first day it was. I scheduled an appointment for last Friday between 1-4p with a 30min call ahead so that I could arrange for someone to be here. At 815am my surveillance system picks up a guy in my backyard digging. I call the company, as usual, they don't have a clue what's happening. I asked for David to call me. No call. Today I'm at work (Monday) and again I see on camera the guy back. I call to ask why he's here. He's installing risers. Risers I know nothing about and never authorized! For almost $300! I again asked David to call me. 20 min later the office calls back to say they're waving the digging fee from the pumping and they'll come back and take the risers out if I really want. She went on to say next time I should really stress what I want on the phone and be more specific with my timing. I said how much more specific do I need to be?! Not my job to do your bookkeeping! She says well we do 70 jobs a day and there's plenty of septic companies out there, you should probably call one of them next time! Thanks for the recommendation! Will do! PS again asked David to call, still waiting "he's very busy, in the truck all day". The people that recommended me and about a dozen other customers will no longer be recommending your horrendous service! My yard looks like hell as well. read more

How this company is still in business is beyond me. I feel sorry for the poor people that end up using them. When it comes to a septic system, you're at the mercy of the company--like when your car breaks and you need a trusty mechanic. Well--I hope you never find yourself at Zuidema's mercy. They have zero customer service. It takes them days to return a call, and if you're lucky you'll have chosen another company by then. They completely screwed up my septic system. Brian told me he was saving me money by re-wiring my pumps without re-digging the lines. He re-wired them improperly and never re-connected the alarm. I was lucky I did not have a septic back up. I only found out about it when I was selling the house. I had the work done properly at less than it cost for Brian's initial" fix", but I will never have the close to $4,000 back that I paid him.. The next company I had out guessed who did the work immediately without me telling him and said he 'had seen this before with this company. They are completely unethical in my opinion. I had called them out immediately when the septic didn't pass inspection (not knowing they were the cause). They took so long to get back to me that I had another 2 companies go out to identify the issue. Both said it was improperly wired and that the alarm was never hooked back up to the system. When I called Brian to ask him about it, he denied he'd done anything wrong and said he had tried to save me money (meanwhile he charged more to do what he did than a reputable company charged to re-dig the wires, which should have been done in the first place). He denied not hooking up the alarm (it was definitely NOT hooked up). He said he wouldn't charge me for coming out to look at it. He did, and when I called, Mary, the receptionist rudely remarked that she thought it was strange why I would use them when I didn't like their work. I told her I called them out BEFORE I knew they were the cause of my septic issues. That's who's representing the company at front office?!! Please do not leave yourself at the mercy of these crooks.How they look in the mirror and sleep at night is beyond me, but I'm sure they do--- but I hope I can save at least one other person from the financial pain and aggravation they caused me. read more

I contacted Zuidema for a regular scheduled maintenance for friday - 05/24/2013. They came and pumped the tank as promised. I was told that the tank was fine - in good shape - and that I had no problems. The following day, my basement bathroom was all backed up through the shower and toilet. I called the company back, and they said that I must have a block in the line and they will be out shortly. They arrived a few hours later and jetted out the line. I was then told that everything was running through fine. --- Until Tuesday morning when my bathroom was all backed up again. I called Zuidema again (very upset) and the woman that answered the phone hung up on me. I asked when thay would be able to come to my house and I was told that we would get there when they get there. My husband asked them to put a camera in to see what the problem was and they were unable to do so because the camera was too big. Once again I was told that it should be fine. Until today........ The bathroom was backed up for the third time. I calmly called Zuidema around 7:30 am to report it and they said that they would come out. The woman that answers their phone is very nasty. I waited until 11:30 before I called a 2nd time to find out when they were coming. she was so nasty on the phone. I explained that after the 3rd back up - they could have put a rush on it. She then got on the defense and started screaming at me that they did nothing wrong. I asked several times to speak to a supervisor and I was told flat out no. She once again hung up on me. I called back and there was a male voice. I asked for a supervisor and was told that I would have to leave a message. While leaving the message, the "owner's son" made comments like - that's not what I heard. Started to argue with me that I accused them of doing something wrong. I then asked him to take two steps back and put himself in my position. I explained everything from the beginning and he was very snarky and on the defense. He then asked me how many times I had called and shouted out the number 5. I then corrected him, stating this was only my 3rd phone call today due to the fact of the BAD customer services. I didn't even mention the fact that the woman kept referring to me a HONEY on the phone. I am not her honey - I have a name. I have now called another septic company to correct their job. read more

This company has no concept of customer service. I scheduled a service call for a repair since my alarm was going off. I specifically told the woman I spoke with that I did not need a pump out because they had just done that a month earlier. They were supposed to come between 9 and 12 but by noon, no one had come or called. I contacted them and was told they were running late. They still weren't there at 1:15. At 1:20, a pump truck came. The service technician I actually needed to see was not available that day, so I wasted that first day waiting around, and again the following morning when we rescheduled. It took a week for the office to send me an estimate, although I called twice. I left a message for the boss, David Zuidema, followed up twice more, and never heard from him. When I called again, after more than a week, the woman on the phone told me they were too busy for him to call me back, and "why don't I just use someone else?" I most certainly did, and I would suggest, if anyone has a septic issue, they do too. If you can't speak to a supervisor when you have a problem, you should consider doing business with another company. They had quoted me $1750 to dig up and jet out my pipes. When Beachstone Septic came, they determined that the pipes were all clear, and solved my problem at a fraction of the price, showed up on time and followed up with personal phone calls. GREAT customer service, the exact opposite of Zuidema. Since Zuidema is so busy, you'll be doing them a favor by using Beachstone. read more
