Welcome to Mayberry! I mean that as a compliment. While walking the street to get to the restaurant a guy is talking to a couple passing by in their car (which just stops in the road) saying "Hey! Glad to see you - how are you? etc. No one got mad and honked. What a fun inviting little town. Zuma was a great lunch break for the four of us girls traveling together. Coffee selections were abundant. I wish I had tried one but we were headed for a two hour rafting trip if you get my drift. I had a Cobb salad which was excellent. I'm picky about my greens. The salad greens were fresh looking and delicious. Not what you see in something right out of a bag. My friends had a chicken salad sandwich and were well pleased. If I get back to NC I would plan the rafting trip first and then a stop at Zuma. It would be hard to choose though between a Cappuccino or one of their peanut butter milk shakes. Visiting family. They took us here for lunch. Great little place. The food is really good. The service is friendly and on top of things. I had a Reuben. Very tasty. The best part was the brownie and milk shake. Definitely hit the spot. Thanks to the folks for a great experience. We will look forward to a return visit. read more

I really wanted to like this place. It's nestled on the corner in historic downtown Marshall. It's cute and funky. The bagel sandwiches were pretty good, but could use more salt- and I say this as someone who does not use much salt. The drinks, however, were terrible. Dirty chai lattes were lukewarm and the taste was so off that we tossed them. We tried this place again, hoping for better results with coffee. The latte tasted like steamed water with a splash of milk. Again, not consumable. I hate to knock local places but unfortunately we will not return here again. read more

Well my wife and I had fond memories of zuma about 8 or 9 years ago.We were out getting our Christmas tree and decided to drive 20 miles out of our way to have lunch at zuma, boy was that ever a mistake. I ordered Reuben sandwich I remembered that there Reuben sandwichs were great, i also ordered a coffee. My wife ordered grilled ham and cheese. The ham and cheese was not grilled it was ham and cheese on toast who does that needless to say it was not very good.The reuben was awlful.It was more like a sourcrout sandwich.It had lots of dressing lots of sour crout and very little meat. They charge almost $10 for this $2 reuben.I said something to the person that prepared it he said well everyone makes reubens different.He is right.Most reubens suck just as his did but he did not care.I order plain coffee how could you scre that up well they did.The coffee could have been used for paint remover it was horrible. THIS PLACE SUCKS DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. read more

Friendly and obviously a favorite of locals, we had lunch there and ordered the specials (wife had the Carrot Ginger soup and I ordered the BBQ Chicken & slaw (without the sesame seed bun as I'm GF). The kitchen said the BBQ sauce was GF and the meals were delicious. There was a varied menu and those meals we observed around us looked great too. The local people were friendly and welcoming and we felt "at home" like visiting Barefoot Coffee in Honolulu, Aloha Coffee in Fort Collins, or Dobra Tea in Black Mountain. We took a break between rafting and zip lining to stop by Zuma's for coffee and lunch. The wraps we had were excellent, and the coffee was good. The shop REALLY needs to buy new furniture. All of the vinyl-covered chairs were cracked and stuffing was falling out; I couldn't find a chair that's vinyl didn't scratch my legs. I don't know that there are many other dining options available in the area. I wish Zuma success, and I hope they put some profits into new dining furniture. read more

We were there on a Thursday night. It was too crowded to get a seat because there was a bluegrass band playing when we visited. We ordered a couple of their famous milk shakes and stood for a time to listen to the music. I think the band was comprised of locals and they were excellent. Would like to go back and spend more time one day. read more

The food is great, but the staff are rarely genuine or friendly. This is common, as I have visited many times. It's a shame because that's such a turn off for many of us and it's such a small town. I have worked in the food industry for many years, so I'm baffled by this. read more

Wow.....I thought Ashville was becoming a snooty little town....well, Marshall might be jockeying for first place. What has happened to customer service? I'm really shocked at the lack of quality of food and the cheapness of sheik little looking cafes which capture your attention w/ their big picture windows, funky chalk menu boards, local art hanging on the walls and a pastry case w/ pretty looking muffins and cookies. Throw in free wifi and I guess that is the extent of the best you will get. Don't expect to be treated any better here than you might at Starbucks and BE SURE you understand that if you buy a cup of coffee and expect 1 free refill that you ASK FOR THE IN-HOUSE MUGS and NOT THE PAPER CUP....or your refill will cost you $1.30. For God's sake.....you shouldn't piss off visitors. People like me have the time and ability to post a review like this one to warn others to what they can and should expect. Had I been informed about the refill clause on my initial ordering of some average tasting coffee, I would have asked for the in-house mug. In fact, there were no glass mugs in view on any counters so I assumed they didn't have any. tip: why not have them on the counter so people know they have that option. I don't like using paper cups to begin with. Snotty cashiers who have never been trained to work with customers can really have a negative impact on a small place like this one. I ordered the two eggs, potatoes and 1 slice of whole wheat toast. Egg yolks LIGHT YELLOW (meaning low grade commercial egg product), industrial slice of wheat flavored Wonder bread and I think the potatoes were from last week (they were chewy and tough) and just thrown on the grill to reheat. The potatoes were so tough that I had two fork fulls and handed my plate (minus the toast) to my partner to finish. for $5.00 I know....I should expect crap. I wasn't completely disappointed. If you are going to come here, maybe (I don't know for sure) the bagels might be better. I'd really suggest just not stopping here unless you are really really desperate. Geez! read more

Terrible customer service. The staff have no personality and are just rude. The food is average, nothing exceptional. I won't be returning to this place. I've tried to give it some grace, thinking the employees were just having an off day but after multiple visits I now know that the staff here are just allergic to smiling and saying "thank-you." read more

They carry Counter Culture, which is usually a good sign, but they don't do any pour over options and did not have any single origin offerings, just blends from CC. Fantastic lunch spot in a cute little railroad village! We stopped in after a rafting trip on the French Broad with the nearby Blue Heron Whitewater Rafting Company. It was a spontaneous decision to visit "downtown Marshall" and we are so glad we did. We quickly checked Yelp after parking in a convenient lot in the middle of Main Street, and found that the 3 restaurants in town, including this one, all had 4 star ratings! We checked the menus at all 3 and decided to give Zuma a try, despite the rather lengthy queue at the ordering counter. We placed our orders with the counter person who was extremely helpful, and popped down at a table to wait for our food order which was brought out by a person straight from the kitchen calling our name. My husband ordered the tuna melt and declared it the best ever - it wasn't open-faced as usual, but toasted perfectly (gorgeous colour) and he loved it. My Southwest turkey wrap was super tasty as well, and packed full of delicious ingredients. Both sandwiches came in cute baskets surrounded by Ruffles Ridges potato chips, the best ever! But the best part of my meal was my unsweetened iced tea. I have no idea how they make it, but that was the nicest tea I've had in ages, and I'm something of an expert LOL! This place is super cute and they serve Counter Culture coffee, which I love. Unfortunately like others have said, the staff isn't very friendly and move very slow. It took fifteen minutes for me to get a mocha and a latte and there was only one person in front of me in line. I wouldnt say I was in a rush, but I didn't expect to have to wait so long. It's unfortunate because they will make money regardless since it's the only true coffee shop in town. As someone who has worked retail for 20 years it is pretty disheartening. read more

Cute little coffeehouse and lunch spot on Main St. in Marshall. There's not much else IN Marshall, so the pickings are slim. However, I had a really tasty reuben sandwich here with some chips and a peanut butter cookie. Staff was friendly and it was buzzing but not terribly crowded at 2pm. I would definitely come back if I was stuck in Marshall at lunch time... Which will probably never happen ever since I live elsewhere, but it was good. read more

Was in Marshall for work and a co-worker took us here for lunch. The place has a cool vibe. I had a Caesar salad and it was excellent. Very fresh. Everyone in our group was happy with their food. We grabbed some of their famous cookies to go and they were delicious. Nothing but positives to say about this little little cafe.
