She peddled unsubstantiated rumors and conspiracies, ex. sunblock is a marketing scheme because for thousands of years people didn't get skin cancer, and expressed unbridled enthusiasm for the Eat 4 Your Blood Type book, which may work for her, but is not backed by research. She was too spiritual for my taste. Facial-wise, it felt nice, though she was talking the entire time, and I didn't feel like I could fully relax. She also said she's a certified beautician, esthetician and hair stylist, which doesn't inspire much confidence in her skills in any one of the areas as the attention seems to be diluted. I asked for tips to maintain my skin, such as exfoliating more, and she said people nowadays live with so much pollution that daily face cleansing does not suffice; she recommended I return for another facial in 4 weeks for my nose, supposedly THAT clogged up, and that I make facials part of my routine--doing them every 2 months. Welp, at least it's on ClassPass because no way I'm spending $100+ every 2 months on facials. What was expected to be a 1-hour experience stretched to an hour and a half; she said she gave me an extra treatment at the end on the house. I did think my pores looked a bit smaller when I left, but I cannot possibly return here. read more

I love this place and I am super picky when it comes to spas. The Fort Greene/ Park Slope Spa scene is totally out of control and overpriced, so this is a welcome respite from that. Got a Brazilian Sugaring here, which I've had before, and it was a really great experience (ok.. as great as having hair ripped from your genital area can possibly be). It was less painful than any hair removal process I've ever experienced and the owner was wonderful and really made me feel comfortable. Long time reader, first time reviewer. My experience yesterday was so exceptional I feel moved to report: I found Zuri through a Spa Week search for massage in my area (Fort Greene). My most recent experiences at the higher-end spas have left me stressed out rather than relaxed--lying on the table, wondering when it was going to start feeling good, only to find out--never. I was loath to splurge, but the Spa Week special pricing meant I wouldn't be investing too heavily should it prove to be another disappointment. Zuri has restored my faith in the restorative powers of massage. It was truly one of the best I've had. Zuri has a warm, calming energy and strong hands. Her massage was thorough and well *choreographed*--she seemed sensitive and tuned in to what my body needed. She is professional and seems to be very experienced. *Petite* is right--it's a small space with no frills, but it is clean and comfortable. I can't recommend her highly enough. Zuri is very nice and is very careful about the services she provides. While the set-up is a bit odd (she is located in an apartment building, no store front), she does not rush you at all and really knows what she is doing. Plus she is ahead of the curve in comparison to other local salons (e.g., one of the few around here to do sugaring!). But she does talk a lot, and there are times when I just want quiet when I am having a facial or other service. Even minor appointments seems to take much longer than they should. And since there is no receptionist or anything, she can sometimes get distracted by calls/texts from other clients. Still, if you have the time, she is excellent at what she does. read more

Zuri is professional, warm, and enthusiastic. The spa itself is homey (look for the butterfly stickers in the window) and clean, and Zuri makes sure you feel comfortable every step of the way. She introduced me to 'sugaring,' which is different from waxing, for my 'betweeny.' Sugaring is when she applies a pliable sugar paste (almost like a putty) to the hair so it can set before it's pulled; it's cleaner and leaves you feeling great afterwards. I saw a deal on Living Social for a brazilian wax at Zuris and couldn't pass it up! I have always wanted to try a brazilian but was always too scared to show anyone other than my doctor or my bf my lady parts. I made sure I called and got the run down about what exactly I would be enduring. When I got to my appointment Zuri made sure that I was comfortable with what was about to take place. She explained everything that would be happening to me (brazilian sugaring) and I had a good experience with her. Yes she does talk a lot but it helped to keep my mind off of what was taking place. Came here for spa week in April & it was an experience. I got a facial & a sugaring Brazilian. The sugaring Was different than what I expected. I've used sugar wax before but Zuri's was different. It was basically a lump of wax & even though it's advertised that it doesn't hurt it absolutely does! But the results were great. My facial on the other hand could have been better. She kept saying that my skin was oily but I have combination skin & my tzone is oily, no where else. My skin didn't feel as good as it usually does after a great facial so I'll stick to my usual place. My biggest complaint was that she talked A LOT & I'm accustomed to quiet serene spa days but overall she was pleasant & I'm glad I went for the experience but I won't be returning. read more

I went to Zuri's Petite Spa in Feb 2016. Zuri's Spa is lovely - petite, in an apartment building location, and she has managed to find a place for everything and create a truly charming spa feel. It smells wonderful and Zuri herself is warm and welcoming. The prices are reasonable and it's great to support a local, small business. I had a Gel Manicure - my first without UV - and Zuri provided an education on her products including a moisturizing nail polish remover without acetone (who knew!). I don't think the gel manicure with UV lasts as long as my typical gel manicure with UV, but there is something to be said for protecting my health by limiting my exposure to UV. The upside of a manicure in a spa - the lighting and space was calming and relaxing, definitely a change from the row of chairs and tables at my typical nail place. The downside - I didn't get the true "spa" experience because there was a bit too much talking - I wanted to just zone out a bit and close my eyes. I would consider returning for a brazilian sugaring when I'm back in town - I haven't tried that and Zuri definitely seems to know what she's doing. But I would definitely have to be the only one there - the spa space is too small for me to feel comfortable sugaring my lady spaces with anyone else around lol! My friend picked this place out because it was close to her home. I on the other hand was seeking a true spa experience. We arrived and it was an apartment. I asked in advance if my friend and I would be together to which I received the response that we would be taken care of at the same time. I am giving them two stars because the massage was ok. The space was extremely small and chaotic. I am all about energy and it was just too congested. When you walk in you are face with a table that is filled with laptops, fax machine and so much paper. I went to get undressed and put on a robe to come back to find the owner opening a massage table in the middle of the living room area. There was no space to even breathe. This was by far not the experience I was hoping for. Next spa pedicure! Major disappointment - the woman talked the entire time. She was having a conversation by herself because at one point o fell asleep that is now exhausted I was. Listen as a single mom, if and when we get to the spa we don't have a conversation, we want peace and quiet. read more

Zuri is a magic healer! I was in incredible pain and couldn't stand straight. Of all the Ft.Greene spa's and masseuses listed she is the only one who offered Medical Massage as a service. I walked in bent at the waist unable to stand up. 45 minutes later I was upright, pain was subsiding and she sent me home with a list of stretches and home remedies to further accelerate healing. By the next morning I was 100% cured. I can't wait to go back to experience the more typical relaxing spa massages and services. Zuri is amazing and the service is superbly personal. I cannot say enough about my incredible experience at Zuri's Petite Spa. From the moment I called and spoke with Zuri to make my appointment, I knew I had made the right choice. I've been waxing and threading and doing electrolysis since I was a teenager (so for almost 3 decades). I walked into Zuri's petite oasis and felt instantly calm. She was welcoming, friendly, and immediately helped me go from city frazzle to spa tranquility. Beautiful music was playing, I was given a delicious robe to wear, and there were beautiful fish and lovely smells to enjoy. Instead of waxing, Zuri introduced me to a very special technique called sugaring for all of the more sensitive areas I usually waxed: face, underarms and bikini. It was incredible. There was hardly any pain, and I have absolutely no redness or irritation. My skin is dewy soft, glowing, and looks amazing. In addition, Zuri is meticulous and a true artist. My eyebrows are shaped so perfectly I've never seen them look this good. Another added bonus is that Zuri's got a wealth of experience and knowledge in health, beauty, massage and other healing arts. As she worked her magic on my skin, she blessed me with many tips to help improve my skin going forward. She truly cares about her clients! She used a more traditional waxing method for my full legs, but even that is better than anywhere I've ever gone before. I decided to try Zuri for Spa Week. I got a message and a facial. First lst me say that the Spa is "Petite" which I think adds to the charm and expereince. The decor was lovely, serene and clearly professional establishment. It rivals many storefront Spas and I could argue that she did a much better job with the decor and how her space is utilized. It's space of total peace and you feel it the moment th door opens. The facial was fabulous! My skin is brighter, silky and soft. Zuri offered tip for maintance I defintely plan to take heed to. She also sugared some facial hairs. I am happy with the results and I did not experience any pain....sugaring is now my friend! The message was great. Zuri has a gentle but firm touch that applies just the right amount of pressure to get the kincks out and relax the body. Upon arrival Zuri was very hospitable! It was still early in the day and she asked if I had breakfast and I really didn't (just a cooke). She came out with a plate of slices apples and almonds! You can't put a price on that ! I am completing my Ph.D with a focus on overweight and obese in Black women. This is relevant to this review in that I have not been able to take a vacation for several years now, for any free time is used to write my dissertation. I am also employed full time in a coroporate setting. Since, I cannot routinely take vacations, I try to indulge in the small creature conforts that day spas have to offer such as massages, facials, manicures, pedicures and shopping for vintage clothes. I had an opportunity to visit Zuri Petite Spa a few years ago and . I have had several services. Firstly, allow me to comment on the cleanliness and orderliness of this beautifully appointed SPA, an organic and very clean environment. I am a health care professional and administrator and am really impressed with Zuri's knowledge of biology, science and the function of skin and hair. Not only is she knowlegable, but this knowledge is used to educate and inform her customers. A part of a Spa experience is the personal touch and special attention. The attention to details and comraderie experienced in Petite Spa are special touches and add value. I have refered and taken several of my friends to Petite Spa, which represents my complete vote of confidence. I have one regret..., that is with my demanding schedule of doctoral study, full time employment and being a community activist, I have not carved out the needed time to schedule regular appointments with Zuri to take care of ME!. I plan to do better in this aspect. In March of this year, I lost a close girlfriend, to death. In January of this year, I took my girlfriend of 30 years ( I am her son's godmother) and another friend to introduce them to and to brag about Zuri. I called Zuri, very impromptu, in that I did not have an appointment, to ask could I bring 2 friends up to see the Spa. She allowed us to come up for a few minutes, for she had another scheduled appointmnet. We went up and she took the time to answer questions and make recommendations to my 2 friends. My girlfriend who died in early March of this year kept saying that she wanted to scheduled an appointment to go back. I tried hard to coordinate a time when she and I could go back to Zuri. Unfortunately, she became ill in early Feb. 2012 and made her transition in early March, 2012, never having the experience of returning to this excellent Spa, Zuri. The orderliness, the cleanliness, the expert knowledge of Zuri and the professional business atmoshhere of this Spa are all reasons that I will continue to carve out time from my demanding schedule for these creature, but very important comforts that will serve to reduce our stress and add quality to our lives. Her services are a bit more expensive than waxing I've done in the past, but it's worth it for all the extra care that she gives and the meticulous work that she performs.
