I used to go to a location Uptown on the East Side however after switching jobs I have returned back to the Brooklyn Heights location. I have to say not every esthetician is great or as gentle or cares about making you comfortable to this (yes, traumatic) experience. Beauty does hurt but it doesn't have to everytime lol. Brave, right? I was able to get an appointment the same day. That actually surprised me because I was expecting to see dates that were days later or a week ahead. But luckily got it the same day. I came here for my very first wax down there. I got a Brazilian. I also got free underarms because it was my first time there. Underarms were fine. Pain in the moment, but doesn't last. Came here on a Friday after booking a same day appointment online. They have 10% off for 1st time customers ($53 prediscountr) which I took advantage of. It's easily accessible from the Nevins street station. I filled out my paperwork online in advance to save time and touching a communal clip board lol. I was quickly taken back for my full Brazilian wax. The rooms are well kept and they provide a sanitary wipe before you get started. The entire wax container is brought in so I assume each person gets a fresh batch as they reuse the sticks they use to wax. My water was very kind and let me know when to breath. It had been a while so it wasn't painless but wasn't terrible she also went back over places as needed. They do ask you to turn over to get the back which I'm not a fan of but it gets the job done. Parbati burned the skin on my kneecap and acted as if nothing happened. I couldn't figure out why my kneecap kept hurting and then I noticed the skin started to scab. There were also hairs left on my kneecap which leads me to believe she knew. Another issue with that visit: the new front-desk attendant felt it ok to open the door without even knocking! Surprising both the practitioner and I. The visit prior to my last was a full face with Lori and she saw many hairs and left them. When she realized that I was checking the work she stopped me and "finished" the already done service. Not to mention Lori's room reeked of coffee (it was an evening appointment). In the 2 years I've been going there or my decade of visiting different establishments, NEVER was I bombarded with the smell of coffee in the service room. Seriously, if it's not Payal, don't bother. I'm a fan of the location in Flatiron. Although I had a practitioner answer her phone once in the middle of the service, the quality of the service itself was quick and thorough. Horrific service. Terrible communication. So aloof and disrespectful to new customers. I had booked a touch up service online as a new customer. It is not communicated that this service is only offered to Uni K customers, it only said those who have had a wax in the last 14 days (which fit my situation). This discrepancy was brought up with such attitude and when I questioned if this could be clearer online, I received an eye roll and no willingness to have a conversation on the topic. They demanded I pay for a full service, when this is clearly not what I booked. There was also the issue of my appointment showing up as a different day and time online. They talked to me like I was stupid and wrong, when really it was just a tech glitch. This could have been dealt with swiftly had they not been so aloof and had a nasty attitude. This caused me to walk out. This is the one and only negative review I have ever left on Yelp - I strongly suggest avoiding Uni K, this location specifically. read more

This was my first time getting a Brazilian wax, and I gotta day it was kind of brutal (although I hear it gets better). Anyway, the place is very nice. From the lobby to the room, everything was clean. The front desk associate was kind. I was waxed by Parbati. I wouldn't recommend her for your first time. I would've really liked to be talked through the process and maybe even given some after care tips. Other than that she's quick and efficient, I'd recommend for someone who is familiar with how a wax goes. I had to tweeze a few hairs when I got home. Also, an ice pack when I got home really helped calm everything down. Overall, it was a decent experience. If I go again I'll probably look for someone I can be more comfortable with. read more

I still had Visual hair not only that in the middle of my wax I realized the lady was double dipping.NEVER CHANGED THE STICK. After she removed the wax out the room just to put it back when a new client enter the room. After my wax I Received a text asking how was my service. I I told them about the hair and double dipping. They then offer me to come right back for another free wax which I refuse because of double dipping it's not safe and it's Corona 19 going on I would not recommend this place. read more

I got a chin wax and she put the wax mostly on the front of my chin, while I was hoping for under on my chin line only. Half of it is smooth and the other half has fine grains on the base of my chin. Now I'm concerned coarse hair will grow on the front of my chin now which I never had before and never waxed before. When I looked in the mirror I saw a few hairs on my chin line which I had to ask her to pluck, she said that was considered the neck. That's something that should be offered as an upgrade at an additional cost, at least offer while I'm in service don't just totally ignore it. I also was burned and after had red and swelling everywhere that had been waxed. I called to see if I could be helped or get a refund but they said they could only do something if I came into the store. Payal was a pleasure to be around and did everything quickly and carefully. I had been going to EWC but the last time I went I left with so many ingrown hairs I decided to try somewhere new. The "joys" of moving is that you have to find all the businesses near you to take care of the usual daily living maintenance - dry cleaning, the local cafe, etc. I tried out several different waxing places. Most of them were great in terms of service, quickness, and minimum hurt, but really hurt me on price. Finally I settled on Uni K to take care of me. It costs more than what I used to pay, but it's cheaper than other places. I had Laura and she was very good. The sting barely registered and I was done before I knew it. Another nice thing about Uni K is that they don't hassle you about buying products or scheduling a future appointment. read more
