We have been here a few times. This time, we came around 8:45 PM on a Thursday. We appreciate that this place was one of the few that are open until late in Issaquah. The staff was efficient and friendly. We ordered the Katsu Ramen, Seafood Pajeon, and Galbi Soup. The Katsu Ramen came with instant noodles, which were different from Japanese ramen. I enjoyed the instant noodles as they had great flavor, but the katsu was a little hard and not crunchy. The Seafood Pajeon was excellent--it was crunchy and delicious. The Galbi Soup came with a lot of beef, but we found the galbi to be saltier than usual, and the beef might not have been as fresh. The seating was spacious. My friends and I stopped by Danji Korean Cuisine for dinner and I was honestly blown away by the quality of the food here. As visitors from the Bay Area where there are a bunch of Korean restaurants, I can confidently say the food here is far better than your average Bay Area Korean restaurant. Between the four of us, we ordered a 12 half-and-half piece wing set, a seafood pancake, a tofu soup, and a beef bibimbap. Although food takes a long time to come out of the kitchen, the food is worth the wait! The seafood pancake was some of the best seafood pancake that I've had. The pancake had generous amounts of seafood in it and the crispiness could not be beat. Although the bibimbap comes in a large stone pot and is sizzling hot coming out of the kitchen, you unfortunately aren't able to extract any burnt rice from the bottom. Perhaps a little bit more oil is needed to achieve this? Despite this, it's still a really nicely constructed bibimbap bowl with a solid variety of vegetables. The chicken wings are crispy on the exterior and juicy on the interior. The wings are on the larger size, so once you get past the thin layer of crispy skin on the outside, I recommend dipping the wing back into the leftover sauce on the plate for more flavor. Last but not least, the tofu soup had a deep kimchi flavor, and was very mild in terms of spiciness. I thought the rice cakes included in the bowl were cooked perfectly and had a nice bounce to them. Danji is a great Korean option on the east side but the prices definitely suggest east side. If you're willing to drive a little further away, you can get equally good or better Korean for less. I ordered the stone pot bibimbap. The display was beautiful but the rice didn't crisp up against the stone pot the way I expected, and that may have been because of how it was plated. I also ordered the six piece mixed fried chicken - the chicken was super hot, freshly fried and flavorful. I can definitely see why they advertise the chicken on the door. Danji is one of my go to spots for Korean food on the Greater Eastside. The interior is very welcoming and the Korean tv shows on is a nice touch. On the menu there is a wide variety of options like soup, Udon, Korean bbq, Korean Fried Chicken, Bibimbap, and more. Everything I have ordered from here has been delicious. On my last vist, my mom and I ordered the Yuk-Gae-Jang and Pork Belly. The broth of the Yuk-Gae-Jang had a hearty flavor and some spice to it. It was very warming on such a cold day. The Pork Belly came out sizzling. I really liked that the pieces were cut really small and that it wasnt overly fatty. The banchan provided was a pretty traditional spread and all of it was tasty. Dinner was delicious. All of the Banchan dishes were tasty except the mung bean dish, needed some more seasoning. It was rather bland. After a hike, we were hungry so we decided to check this place out. After seeing all the positive reviews, I was excited. The place is busy even on a weekday. There was already a few groups eating when we got there and a few more came after. Parking was limited to street parking or the lot across the street. Our server was ok. She brought out food and water and that was it, didn't come back until we wave her down for the check. Food: Seafood pancake 4/5 --- it was good, crispy and flavorful. Just a little too much batter for my taste. Squid and pork belly bulgogi 4/5 --i don't think they used pork belly, it was a different part of the pork. Either way, the dish was flavorful. The dish supposed to feed 2 people but it can definitely feed closer to 4 people. I wished they gave us more rice though. If they think a small bowl of rice was enough to finish that dish I seriously don't know what they were thinking Banchans was good but also in very small portions The food overall seems normal but I kept eating them so it's definitely good. The only korean restaurant in Issaquah. The place is nice; we sat outside since we had our pup with us. Good amount of offering in the menu. The service was good and the servers are nice. There were only 5 thing of banchan; all of them are good except one. Bumped that kimchi wasnt part of the banchan and we have to order it seperate; but the kimchi tasted good. What we got: Fish row soon tofu 3.5/5 It was alright; we got the spicy one but should have ask for extra spicy. Yuk-Gae-Jang 4/5 It was really flavourfull and really good. Portion was good as well. The restaurant itself isn't too big, so it can get pretty busy during those peak hours... that being said, it's worth the wait imo! My faovirte dish here is the galbijjim! The place was not very big but the booth are large and comfortable. There is a tv playing Korean shows and you can hear the conversations at the next table. The food was ok. We ordered the seafood pancake and it was decently loaded with seafood but nothing special. We ordered the pork belly bibimbop and it was not seasoned well. The was not much pork and not very tender. I have three words: Korean. Fried. Chicken. You can't come here without ordering this! Two of us arrived on a Saturday at noon and the lunch crowd was already in full swing. We were greeted promptly and seated at one of their last remaining booths. Their menu has a vast selection between various appetizers, bibimbap, tofu soups, BBQ plates and a number of specials. Every table receives the banchan side dishes; ours included broccoli, fish cake, kimchi, salad and a mung bean jelly flavored with sesame oil. + HALF-HALF CHICKEN ($18.50): Ordering this with the Fried & Yangnyeom is the perfect combination! The traditional Fried chicken was super light and crispy on the outside, and so juicy inside. You could literally hear the crunch while biting into each piece. I loved the Yangnyeom wings which were covered in an addicting sweet and spicy glaze. The sauce had just the right amount of spice that slowly creeps up on you in the best way. The wings included both drumettes and flats, all of which were meaty and of great size. We only ordered six wings, but an extra one came on our plate. Lucky us! + BULGOGI STONE POT BIBIMBAP ($18.50): Marinated beef bulgogi, carrots, shiitake mushrooms, zucchini, beansprouts, spinach, radish and a fried egg surrounded a mound of rice, all of it sizzling in the stone pot. I loved this hearty and wholesome dish after mixing all the ingredients together. The beef was tender and slightly sweet from the marinade. This bibimbap came served with a small cup of miso soup. + SOFT TOFU SOUP ($15.50): We selected the kimchi version, but they also offer it in other variations such as beef, pork, seafood, veggie and more. The waiter informed us that a spice level of 1 star equates to no spice, so we ordered it at 2 stars and the mild heat was just right. The soup was comforting and included a substantial amount of soft tofu, egg and strips of kimchi. It came with a cup of purple rice on the side. All these dishes collectively made for a well-rounded meal, and I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. By the end of our lunch, the two of us just had a small serving of rice and one wing left over to take home. I was also impressed by the service as it appeared just two waiters took care of all the tables. They seated customers, took the orders, served the food, and bussed tables, while still managing to check on us a couple times to see if we needed anything. Wow, what a Friday night crowd! Very busy but service was quick. We ordered kimchi jigae, spicy pork, and corn cheese. The flavor of the Spicy pork was very good but a bit too salty. Corn cheese was uniquely delicious for it had a brown butter taste to it but wasn't very cheesy/creamy and a bit too salty. The kimchi soup was a bit disappointing. We arrived here on a pretty sunny day and I asked my boyfriend to take our dogs to be seated as there were tables and chairs outside with umbrellas. It took a few minutes to get noticed by the waiter who said it was okay to dine out with our dogs and said he would bring us menus and he set up the umbrella for us to block the sun out of faces. He provided professional but felt very curt with his responses like when we asked for tea and water but he only brought me tea while my boyfriend got water. We placed our order and got the don katsu and Bone Hae Jang Guk. I did see that they give banchan with your order which I thought was lame as I come from Federal Way and they usually give you rice and banchan while you wait for your entrees. Additionally, as he was trying to carry my soup, he spilled quite a bit and just wiped it off with his hands which I found very unprofessional. He came by only one other time to check in on us so we only got to get one banchan refill and hot tea refill and the last time was to give us the bill. The food was alright. Again, I come from Federal Way where you can find Korean street snacks, traditional comfort foods, and cafes. There was a decent amount of meat and vegetables given but the seasoning was lacking. Portions may seem big to some but this is pretty average portions for most Korean places, but they are really pricy. It was also interesting that they advertise bone hae jang guk as mild but have a chili pepper to indicate it's spicy? My boyfriend really loved his katsu and gave it a 7.5/10. The banchan was decent, we really liked the fish cakes, braised potatoes and cucumber kimchi. I can't really speak for the inside as we dined outside, but they were playing K-pop and the interior looked more modern and intimate than a traditional Korean restaurant. The food came out quickly, however serve was a bit slow as there were two server at the time working the inside and outdoor dining. We came on a Saturday around 7 and had to wait 20-30 minutes for a table since it was so busy. It was quite spacious inside with a good number of tables. We got the spicy galbijjim and half/half korean fried chicken with yangneom and soy garlic flavors. The galbijjim was so tasty, with the perfect savory spicy sauce to coat the beef, carrots, and onions. It also had some tteokbokki and glass noodles inside too. The bones themselves were quite large so a little less meat than daeho, but the taste was fantastic. We also loved the fried chicken -- so massive with a crispy outside and juicy inside. Both sauces were also delicious. Their banchan was also done so well -- sign of a good Korean restaurant. This was the perfect amount, maybe slightly too much food for the 4 of us. A Korean restaurant on the "Plateau." Appears to be quite popular locally with practically every table taken for a Friday lunch hour. However, we were not impressed. Wife and I shared LA Gal-Bi and Kimchi Fried Rice with chicken. LA Gal-Bi, for its price were not meaty nor tasty given its price. The fried rice, similarly, lacked flavor. Both items were, simply, adequate. Service, as typical in many Asian restaurants, was brusque. Perhaps they were understaffed. Also, there were some Hispanic gentleman popping in and out of the side kitchen area, who maybe butchers (?). But, seeing guys pop in and out with knives in their hand was odd. Danji is hands down, the BEST Korean food on the Eastside. This is the only Korean restaurant my friends and I go to now and we've been here at least five times. I've brought my family and they're also Danji addicts now too, even coming here twice in one week! At this point, I've probably tried half the menu. Wait times can be long depending on the day and time, but we've always been able to get a table. Our favorite dishes are the KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN (Spicy Yangneom style), the SEAFOOD PANCAKE (HAMEOL PAJEON), the GALBI JJIM, and the GALBI SOUP. As someone who doesn't normally like deep fried foods, the FRIED a CHICKEN is definitely an exception. It's super crispy and the sauce is sweet, tangy, and hot- it is literal perfection. The SEAFOOD PANCAKE is light and fluffy, almost like a tempura batter. The GALBI JJIM is sweet, savory, and hearty. The meat is extremely tender and literally falls off the bone. Lastly, the GALBI SOUP is super flavorful and had great bone broth flavor. It was nice and mild with well marinated beef on the bone and sweet potato noodles on the bottom. Perfect for a cold winter day. The unlimited banchan has varied each time we've been, but on rotation, they have kimchi, cucumber kimchi, fish cake, bean sprouts, broccoli with ketchup, salad, potato salad, soy honey potatoes, kimchi radish, and some sort of root vegetable. 2024 Prediction: I will be making many drives out to Issaquah for Danji. Osam Bulgogi (Spicy Squid / Pork Belly Stir-Fry) is one of my favorite dishes, and I had been hunting it down since the closure of Bellevue's Southgate Garden. I've tried many iterations near and far, but Danji's is the absolute crown jewel. The pork belly is ideal--cut just thick enough to form some nice char on the outside, but still tender in the middle. Squid cooked to perfection. Vegetables are a dream. Sauce is strong and packs a punch, as it should. The only thing to enhance it would be the option to add fried rice to the end of the meal with the leftovers, but tbh even between the two of us, we didn't have any leftovers. All banchan was superb (even the salad dressing!), and I was especially impressed by the texture of the gamja jorim (braised potatoes). I'm one of those Koreans that prefers Fresh (non/lesser fermented) Kimchi, and that just happened to be the kind served at Danji. Service was attentive and I appreciated the staff checking in on us by offering banchan refills and barley tea. There were only a few occupied tables when we arrived around 5 PM on a Friday night, but by 6 PM there was a line out the door. Plan accordingly, because it's worth it! read more
