Near the end of Front street is a quiet unassuming little Terriyaki and Sushi Bar. The owner greeted me right away. There was. only one other customer in the place, four by the time I left. So it was a nice quiet dinner. A little classic rock in the background. I ordered an iced tea. Unfortunately it seems Japan Ginger only carries bottled soft drinks so I was given a Lipton. Meh I ordered some sashimi and it was fantastic. The wasabi was probably the spiciest wasabi I'v ever had. And I love heat. I even enjoyed the gari and I'm not a big ginger fan. The teriyaki on the other hand was more like roast beef with beef gravy poured over it. It was thinly sliced meat in some kind of brown gravy. While it wasn't bad, it didn't really feel like good beef teriyaki. and I was disappointed in the "salad" served along side it read more

I got four different rolls and really liked all of them . Seattle roll Dragon Spider roll And the fourth is Escaping me at the moment. I really did like all the rolls. I had the Dragon and Seattle rolls before. They both are good, the Presentation here was nice . The gentleman that was there at the time I ordered did a good job rolling all the food for us and the others that can in and ordered. We came in here for sushi, so this review is about their sushi offerings. Not sure if teriyaki may be better. The sushi was disappointing. Salmon was sliced so badly it was impossible to even chew through. Huge chunks, sliced an odd way. Tuna was fresh and good, but also in huge slices. One of the rolls fell apart. The caterpillar roll was the only thing that actually tasted good. Would not recommend this for sushi. read more

Japan Ginger is one of those little unpretentious gems that you stumble upon once in a while. This was the best sushi I had in a year. And the last really great place was downtown LA and quite expensive. The service here is impeccable ingredients were utterly fresh and perfectly prepared. Officially my favorite restaurant in Issaquah! As an avid sushi eater with high standards, this sushi was delicious. Fish was really fresh. We got 5 different rolls (unagi, spicy tuna, hamachi, the Issaquah roll, and the Yummy roll). Each one was just as high quality and delicious as the next. We were so pleased we even got teriyaki chicken to go, which was also awesome. Amazing service from the owner, too. Overall a super cute place with great service and great food. A small sushi joint that looks inconspicuous. Definitely don't judge the place by it's looks (which I originally did) because the sushi here is great and beat my expectations. Nicely priced for the quality provided. Can't speak on the non-sushi items, but we will definitely come back another time :) Service was also great considering that it was just one person managing everything when we visited. read more

What am I missing here with these reviews? It pains me to write this because I want to support small, family businesses, but this was the worst teriyaki I have ever had. My partner confirmed his was the worst ever as well. I ordered the chicken teriyaki & Katsu chicken combo, with a cup of miso. Him: spicy chicken teriyaki. The portions were oddly small, the food was lukewarm, bland, and the chicken was this very unappetizing tan/grey color. No grill marks and slimy. There was no heat to the spicy chicken and the katsu was chewy and fatty. I should have known this was going to be awful when I called and he didn't take my name, and the place was empty at 12:30 on a weekday. We won't be returning. read more

This place is incredibly solid, especially for the price. The man who served us who I am assuming is also the owner was incredibly kind, friendly and kept up with a handful of tables while I think possibly cutting nigiri as well. He even hooked us up with a free gyoza and brought a little snack for our baby. Some of the reviews here need to chill on expectations for a small town sushi spot. We tried a bunch of different nigiri and rolls and all of the fish tasted super fresh. These prices are legit half of a typical similar spot with the same quality. We'll continue to drop in this neighborhood gem whenever possible. read more

Not a frequent reviewer but I wanted to highlight this place. I came in knowing I was allergic to seafood (wife wanted sushi) and was a bit worried on what I could order. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how accommodating the owner was! He made sure there was no cross-contamination when making my order and was very kind the whole time. Love this little local spot. We tried it one night while my daughter had her music lesson across the street, and loved it all. The gyoza is delicious, as are the yakisoba, and the dinner plates. Just one guy running the show each time we are there, but he seems to have it all covered! read more

Service was good. Yes the owner is a one man show and I can tell he works very hard to provide for his customers. The food is okay. The teriyaki sauce was good but the chicken could have been better. The katsu breading consistency was off with some pieces being really hard. The price has gone up from what I can tell in the past year but that can be said anywhere else. read more

Worst teriyaki and so far the most expensive chicken and beef I ever had 24.75. Teriyaki meat had no teriyaki souse and the final the smallest portion I had yet seen. The place was clean. 2. The staff was friendly. 3. A wide variety of food (They also serve sushi). 4. A little pricey for what is. 5. The food was just so so. I had a chicken and beef combo and the beef seemed like broiled beef jerky while the chicken was just ok. I didn't take a pic because I felt it wasn't worth enough to post. Probably won't be back.
