Tbh slowly making my way around trying all the sushi places in the area. Came by for a weekday dinner. As the restaurants in an outdoor plaza, there's lots of convenient parking. The interior is really cute. Each table has a little divider so it feels semi-private and cozy. Service was also kind and quick. We ordered the chicken karaage, harmony roll, and dinner sashimi. The server noticed we were sharing everything, so they gave us 2 miso soups for the dinner. Chicken karaage was fresh out of the fryer, and really juicy. Not as battered as I would've liked but good. The sashimi dinner was not bad. The fish wasn't the freshest, and the variety is okay. Harmony roll was okay as well. I liked the sauce it came with. Overall, this was a pretty average place to me. Nothing stood out but nothing was blatantly bad. Bonus points for the interior ambience though. I loved their design. read more

Trying this new sushi shot in Bellevue. Our usual spot was crowded and the wait was more than we felt like doing. So I yelp it, and found this little gem just outside of downtown. First, the curtain enclosed sitting was EVERYTHING!!!!!!! My husband and I felt like we were alone. We ordered three starters and two rolls. Everything was delicious. Sushi In Joy has been our go to casual neighborhood sushi place for years. It's a mom and pop sushi restaurant operated by warm Korean staffs who welcome you like old friends. Sushi is in the name so expect good quality sushi with fresh specials on the handwritten board by the door. You can also find limited Korean dishes like bulgogi and fried gyoza (fully crispy as opposed to crispy on one side Japanese style). I've been here twice and am headed to regular customer status! Stumbled on this sushi restaurant a few months ago when I was having breakfast in the same complex. The menu looked reasonably priced with a variety of rolls and familiar Japanese offerings. My friend and I are working our way through their menu. On this recent visit, we tried the cucumber salad, shrimp & veggie tempura, sea dragon roll and hamachi kama (not pictured) on this last visit. All was delicious and freshly prepared. There are no surprises, you do get what you see. We like to drink our hot water, so we've had to ask for refills a couple of times. We've gone on Saturday evenings around 6 pm. There hasn't been a long wait and we have been able to snag a table. The tables are partitioned, so you do have some visual privacy to enjoy your meal. Service is friendly and prompt. read more

First time back here in years, and it's just as good as before. I had a bento with tempura and chicken katsu, both were generous portions that came out hot and crisp. Also came with miso soup and salad that complemented the mean. There was a side gyoza and fish tempura that was soggy and chewy, but didn't really mind. My wife had the hamachi collar (on the menu it's called cheeks but it's clearly the collar of the fish) that had tons of meat that was broiled perfectly. I like how the tables are all partitioned off with curtains so that you don't feel like everyone is looking at you or can hear you. Service was mostly attentive but not anything special. read more

I ate here twice within a month! That might not seem like much, but I tend to seek out a different spot each time I go out, so to visit again that quickly says a lot. My first meal was for a takeout lunch and a couple weeks later, I returned with my family for dinner. I am still extremely cautious about dining in, but Sushi In Joy has tatami rooms and a few tables partially separated by curtains which provide some extra protection. The food and service are superb. The staff welcomed us right when we walked in the door, kindly checked on us twice during our dinner and sincerely thanked us as we left. My dad accidentally left his glasses behind and our waitress ran them out to us in the parking lot. Given their huge menu of rolls, appetizers and entrees, there is plenty of selections for everyone. + LUNCH KITCHEN BENTO ($17.95): Choose two of seven options which comes with rice, small salad, miso soup and two gyoza. For the price, it's a generous portion of food, which they packed in two separate takeout containers. I went for the spicy pork bulgogi and chicken katsu. The pork had some serious heat and it came with a little cup of hot sauce if you want an extra kick. It was delicious with a nice balance of saltiness and sweetness. The katsu option included TWO chicken cutlets! They were pounded out and had light crispy breading. I just didn't care for the katsu sauce... it tasted like there was maybe some plum in it? I found it too tangy and fruity for me. + LION KING ROLL ($15.95): Seared salmon on top of a California Roll, sprinkled with crunch. This was pretty substantial as the rolls were stuffed with a good amount of crab, avocado and cucumber. The salmon on top was pretty thin and closer to cooked rather than just lightly seared. I still enjoyed it, but just wished the salmon had a silkier texture. + SMALL SUSHI DINNER ($22.95): This included six pieces of sushi (chef's choice), a roll (of three options, I chose spicy tuna), miso soup and little salad. I was surprised at how thick the cuts of fish were! They were meaty and draped completely over each pad of rice. All of it tasted fresh and clean. My pieces of nigiri included salmon, tuna, yellowtail, albacore and what they call "super tuna". The spicy tuna roll actually had spice! There are countless times where I've ordered this at other restaurants only to find that it's barely spicy. + SHRIMP & VEGETABLE TEMPURA: Four pieces of shrimp and a variety of vegetables were lightly battered and super crispy. The shrimp were on the thinner side, but we all enjoyed them especially when dipped in the sauce. The veggies included kabocha squash, broccoli, onion, carrot, and green bean. I love the restaurant's interior which is adorned with traditional Japanese décor, making this establishment even more memorable. Sushi in Joy has been around for more than 20 years and I am shocked I had never even heard of it until last month. No doubt I will return for more meals to make up for this lost time! 4.75 stars. read more

We arrived in the dark for dinner. The parking lot area looks like an industrial zone. "Where are we?", we thought. No matter, when we stepped into the restaurant, we are transported into a traditional Japanese restaurant, complete with tatami rooms, some tables that are subdivided by partial room dividers, wood beam deco throughout, and hanging pretty Japanese cloths. Of course, they have a sushi counter, too. Our server appears to be newer; a more senior server stood next to her watching over her questions and answers with us. We were pleased with every dish. Rounding up the rating for the deco. Parking is plentiful at their lot. The Food: Jalapeno Hamachi, $20.95 - 5 Stars This is one of my favorite sashimi dishes made into an appetizer. The price is comparable to other places. The jalapeno is a must. King Salmon Nigiri, $6.95 - 5 Stars Look at that marbling! Beautiful long pieces of salmon cover the rice. Lion King Roll, $15.95 - 4.5 Stars Menu: crab meat, avocado, cucumber with seared salmon topped with crunch and sweet sauce It's basically a super CA roll with the seared salmon on top. The tempura crumbs do make it look like a lion. Hubby liked it. Sea World Roll - 4.5 Stars Menu: super tuna, eel, crab meat, cucumber, avocado with salmon and sweet sauce on top Loaded with seafood, this beast has a huge diameter. It of course separated as I bite down on it. Messy, but I like all the seafood. So good! Cozy unique interior with tables/booths in the middle that have curtains and wooden lattices that provide some semblance of privacy from other tables. Staff were pretty quick with initial service (drinks, appetizers, initial entrée order) though we did have to wait for a few dishes and to order additional items. We had the shrimp & vegetable tempura as an appetizer and it was really good, freshly cooked, and had a perfect crisp on the tempura batter. We shared the deluxe sashimi dinner and it was excellent--presentation-wise as well as for the fish: it came in a large wooden boat, and had three pieces of 6 fish, shrimp, and tamago. We ended up ordering an additional 6-pieces of "super tuna" (escolar) because it was so good in the boat. We also ordered the baked scallop roll which was a gooey, creamy mess--absolutely delicious if you're into cooked rolls with a decent amount of sauce in/on them. We also had an order of the octopus nigiri which was a bit standard wrt chewiness but had great flavor (one of my favorite items that we had). For beverages, we had the sake sampler which was really affordable and had two pretty good sakes in it: we really enjoyed the Tamano Hikari this came with, and we also liked that their sake menu had the Sake Meter Value (SMV) score listed for every sake they offered to help decide what we might like. Best of all is that they had Asahi, and in the 21 fl oz bottles. Overall, my fiancée thought it was super cute and it was a nice place for a date night. read more

Pros: -delicious large rolls -the fish was fresh and there were large chunks Cons: -as you can see in the 2nd photo, the rolls didn't stay together (I expected it from the sushi in joy roll but not the rainbow roll since it's smaller and shaped different) -PRICE for two rolls was just over $30, I mean you can get cheaper rolls but for this type of roll it's $2-$4 more than other places I'd order again but probably wouldn't splurge on more than one roll. Add delivery fee/tax/tip and this was a $30 lunch. :( Still love sushi. read more

Direct edict: find a sushi place in Bellevue that isn't anywhere close to the madness of Bellevue Square. Sushi In Joy fit the bill! No secret menu omakase, so ended up ordering the 18 piece sashimi plate. I thought it was just ok honestly. Pretty standard cuts of fish and not the freshest quality either for a pretty steep price. Wouldn't say that my meal was bad, I was not blown away given the price and quality. Staff here was great. I was able to make a reservation a few days before with no problems. And when we were here, we had excellent services throughout our meal. Zero complaints! Another reason why I wanted to avoid Bellevue Square was to get away from the crappy parking situation. We literally parked right in front of the restaurant with no problems whatsoever, so that should tell you enough. I wouldn't mind coming here again, but it's just ok in my book. read more

Was actually going to a place in downtown Bellevue but is was so busy I decided to drive on and see what I could find. I pulled in to a parking space right in front and walked in. A nice lady greeted me right away and said she would seat me as soon as she cleaned the table. I ordered the Korean spicy pork dinner. A young man brought out the miso soup and salad and asked if I was ok with chopsticks. I almost said, "I have chopsticks older than you," but my wife is working on me being a nice person, so I just smiled and said that they will be fine. Minutes later the main course came out. Cooked nicely and good spice. The lady waiting tables hustles her butt off and is very sweet. This place is like the "Cheers" of sushi bars. They knew everyone that came in! Ordered some rolls from this place. They did ok with the regular salmon roll and cherry blossom roll, but their spicy salmon rolls were atrocious. They cheaped out and filled the roll with mostly cucumber, adding a tiny smidgeon of spicy salmon filling. For 8.95 a roll, it is pathetic. The photos don't lie.
