Here is my final update for a long established restaurant and destination location for Mooresville. The word is Zydeco's is closing forever December 27th. The restaurant and the two buildings have been for sale for months. $750,000 if you're interested. I wanted a final Shrimp Po-Boy before they closed for good. My sister ordered Red Beans & Rice. It took an hour and fifteen minutes to get our food. Every table we could see were like us. We all had drinks and bread but no food. No one was eating dinner. My shrimp po-boy was good and just like I remembered. But my sister's red beans and rice was not. She said it could have used some salt but none was on the table and the server never checked in with us to see if everything was okay. The quality of the food has been declining this year. And they used to be open on Wednesdays but not anymore. It's a shame they couldn't maintain their excellence until the end. They should just go ahead and close now if this is the best they can do. read more

Well we were on a road trip to lake Geneva Wisconsin to celebrate my Michelle 50 age birthday party on the lake! As we went through airport At Indianapolis we saw this ad on ZYDECO restaurant! We stopped into a little bit of New Orleans, raging cajuns. Had wonderful frog legs at $5, gumbo, wife had shrimp in spicey potatoes with a side of rice and a side salad. I have visited this restaurant many times over the years and every experience is just a little different. The owners are fantastic at making you feel like part of their family! The food is as good... and just as fresh as any food you will get in New Orleans! The ambiance is quirky, yet sophisticated and the atmosphere is one of fun and friends! I have a greatest LSU fan at home. He loves everything about Louisiana and looks for authentic food when we go to a new place. We drove from Indianapolis just for this place. Nice entertaining and delightful atmosphere. They represent New Orleans style eccentric art with details of Louisiana. Food was freshly made but tasted subpar. Chicken tenders were decent but roasted potatoes were bitter. For the side, I opted for Cajun fries but was served roasted potatoes instead. I did not complain because I know it will take another 30 minutes for that. Garlic soup and creole house sauce was good. Half and half (gumbo & jambalaya) was just okay. The sazerac was awesome and authentic. Honestly we were disappointed. Maybe our expectations were too high expecting authentic food here. It was Outlandishly pricey for the quality of the food served. Super slow service. We waited nearly an hour to get a table and another one hour to get food to our table. We stopped at Zydeco while waiting for a wedding reception to start. It's a fun unexpected restaurant and bar in Mooresville. We just did drinks and appetizers. A dozen oysters which were nice and fresh with a good flavor. Also the pirogue bread which was delicious. I tried the "alligator bite" (?) drink and it was just like a dessert. This is an awesome and fun family restaurant. A piece of New Orleans right here in Indianapolis. They have a large indoor dining area with a full bar and a few tables and chairs on the sidewalk that you can eat. There is some free street parking available and a decent sized free parking lot off a side street right near the restaurant. The dining area is well decorated with New Orleans/Mardi Gras memorabilia. The dining tables give you a kitchen table feel. Some of the tables in the bar area are more Bourbon Street like. The staff there is very friendly and helpful. They brought the Big Easy hospitality with them. They greet the little ones with beads and some Teddy Graham crackers. The menu is packed with cajun favorites such as frog legs, jambalaya, gator, oysters and catfish. They also have some delicious signature cocktails featuring the New Orleans famous Hurricane, be it that they are a bit pricey. I ordered the oyster poboy with cajun fries. They bring you some warm bread with butter and a home made vinegar based dip. The poboy was decent, especially considering that it is in Indiana. The fries were amazing, I highly recommend getting them with the seasoning on them. It gives them a little kick and tons of flavor. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is a fun place to eat and is family friendly. It is very unique. They have an excellent staff, delicious food and one of the best vibes that you will find. I really want to like this place because I love Cajun food but... the taste of the food is not worth the price you pay. I have been here a handful of times, the last 3 have been similar; some good dishes, some mediocre. Here's the breakdown: Gator bites- pretty good Crawshrimp etouffee- crawfish was cooked well but the dish needed salt Garlic soup- a high point Fried shrimp dinner w/ spicy potatoes- shrimp was fine, potatoes cooked well but no salt and not spicy in my opinion. Jambalaya- good but not great. It was under seasoned, a little dry and lacked the depth you usually get from Cajun food. Fried oysters- seasoned well the breading was just a little too thick. Had another shrimp dish which was ok but nothing to celebrate. Not sure we will be back anytime soon. read more

We love Zydeco's whether it's Mardi Gras or not. But tonight is Zydeco's Mardi Gras Celebration with live music and the highlight always being the costume parade intermixed with patrons. I enjoy the effort of the many who are dressed in festive outfits, masks, and beads. Beauty and the Beast were here early strolling with beads throughout the restaurant taking pictures with whomever asked. As usual, it is packed with standing room only at prime time. Debbie, the owner, seats folks as quickly as possible. The live band has the crowd energized and pleasantly entertained. We started at the bar for cocktails while we waited for a table. My husband had the Blood Orange IPA and I had the every popular Hurricane followed by a Gator Juice. Both were on the sweet side but very tasty. You can dine at the bar (first come) but we opted to wait for a table. We enjoyed our conversation with the nice couple sitting next to us. Everyone is always so friendly whether it be the staff or the patrons. The bartender was working her butt off keeping up with the two bars plus pouring drinks for the restaurant tables. The supporting staff was hustling as well pouring drinks, preparing large batches of hurricanes, restocking liquor or filling ice. We were seated at a table after an hour and a half wait which seemed to go quickly. A basket of warm, sliced French bread and dressing arrived quickly. We started with the amazing and creamy Garlic Soup with a mild garlic flavor. We had requested it served before our entree arrived but everything came out together. Easy to overlook since it was a full house and Mardi Gras which is the busiest night of the year. My husband ordered the Gumbo and I had the Half-in-Half (Gumbo & Jambalaya). Both are excellent with a scoop of rice placed in the center of the bowl. The menu is full of flavorful choices with a few of our favorites being Blackened Catfish Fillets, the Blackened Beef Filet, Crawfish and Shrimp Etouffee, Gumbo, Half and Half and Tasso Bites which are medallions of seasoned smoked pork covered in spicy tasso seasoning. Don't pass on dessert with delicious bread pudding topped with a Bourbon glaze. If the Blueberry and White Chocolate Bread Pudding is offered, definitely try even if you have to take home, it's so worth it and reheats well. It is my favorite and made in-house. The atmosphere is always fun and friendly with festive New Orleans decor. Live music just amps up the party atmosphere. Debbie and her staff provide excellent service with delicious food prepared by Debbie's husband who is a true New Orleans Chef. Upon entering, the outside is super inviting especially being in a small town. Inside u feel like you're in the heart of Nawlins! The decor is just so cute! The food is simply amazing and authentic. The cook/ husband is originally from Louisiana. The wife runs the front like a well oil train... The food is never disappointing and the service is just as good. Although this visit was on a Wednesday it was quite busy. We sat at the bar for the first time and no complaints. My blackened catfish was a little burnt on the ends but it did not skew my review. The Jolie Blonde pasta is my husbands favorite and was just as remembered. The garlic soup is a staple and hidden gem in the menu. Try the homemade balsamic vinaigrette for dipping your bread or salad. While it is thinker than a typical vinaigrette it's to die for. The service was great. Everyone was friendly. The noise level was average. New Orleans Mardi Gras them inside. We chose to split the $40 steak. It was not the best steak it was kinda flavorless. Good Cajun food in Mooresville! Who woulda thunk. First of all, I love that Zydeco's is in Mooresville, because this town needs more restaurants that are non-chain restaurants, as well as restaurants that offer something different than diner food, pizza and burgers. I will gladly drive to Mooresville to support a restaurant that is trying something new. Someone recommended that I get the Gator Juice, so of course that's what I ordered first. Little did I know that Gator Juice is a towering glass of alcohol and whipped cream. OK! I am always down for alcohol and cream, so the Gator Juice went down smooth. It's super sweet, though, as beverages with whipped cream tend to be, so just keep that in mind. It's not a good choice if you're looking for something refreshing or thirst-quenching. Next, I got the red beans and rice (light kidney beans with white rice and sausage). Wow -- it was amazing. I ordered a small appetizer portion, which was perfect. My husband ordered a full-sized portion, and although he liked it, it was a lot of food, and he later wished he had gotten the smaller size. Nevertheless, the red beans and rice was warm and comforting, and a good dish to order on a winter day. He also ordered the garlic soup, which was his favorite. It comes with a toasted piece of bread on top. My main course was fried catfish with a side of potato salad. Both were excellent. The catfish was the special for the day, so I'm not sure if they always have it on the menu. Bread and butter is complimentary for the table, and it is so good. I happened to save a piece of bread to eat with my red beans and rice, and that was a good decision! You can't go wrong when you use carbs to sop up more carbs. Zydeco's is decorated like a Mardi Gras fever dream: There are decorations on every inch of the restaurant, and there is something to look at everywhere. First time here. This place is very inviting plus they have really funny Facebook posts. The day we decided to go they were celebrating Mardi Gras so we knew we needed to be there early. We may have been there a little too early to see all the festivities. They opened two hours early in anticipation of crowds. The staff was extremely friendly from the hostess to our waiter to the waitress who took pictures of us as we walked around the place. The special of the day was seasoned shrimp and you could buy it in half pound and whole pound. We took advantage and bought a half pound and they came with the heads on. They were very good although I would have liked a little more pop from the horseradish in the cocktail sauce. The other special of the day was the Hurricane cocktail and you got to take the cup home! This was an excellent cocktail I would have loved to have had two or three of these and my friends who are not driving did. I am a fan of creole food and try it ever chance I get. This place is located in a cozy little small town outside of Indianapolis. We came here with my parents to check it out. The first thing I want to point out was their customer service was top notch! Our server was animated, friendly and attentive the whole night. Something I really liked about him was he greeted us told us the specials and what drinks they had and let us know he would be back in a few to get our drink and appetizer order. Then after our drinks and appetizers were half way gone he came back for our main dishes, then asked if we wanted desert and even educated us on what desserts they had. We sat around a while after our meal and talked and never felt rushed to pay and leave. Our waiter continued to check in to see if we needed anything while we sat there. Now on to the food, it was really disappointing to say the lease I got the chicken yaya and it lacked flavor and was over cooked. The chicken was dry and my moms was the same. My husband and dad ordered the fish special and one thing my husband didnt like was the potato salad was touching his hot food. Also it needed rice to go with the dish. We decided to stop in for a late lunch/early dinner after a recommendation from a friend. Reviews looked so we gave it a try on the way back from an IU football game in Bloomington. Parking was easy and free right in front of the restaurant (just like the movies) in downtown Mooresville. Decor was outstanding and we greeted by a very cheerful host. It was a hot day so we decided to just hydrate with water. Wife ordered the shrimp po'boy and I ordered the crawfish po'boy. Both were excellent. But while we waited we received some nice and warm french bread with a signature dressing and some excellent butter. So much for counting carbs:-o Only thing keeping me from awarding it five stars was the condition of the bathroom. Generally dirty (had to self clean a lot) and floor was sticky. Not a difficult fix, just need to stay on top of it. (Did mention to staff) On the plus side the decor was awesome and we loved the necklaces we take with us and were creatively used to roll the napkins. We'll be back if we are coming this way. BTW. I did ask about beignets (which we love) and was told they don't usually have them on weekends since it backs up the fryer in their kitchen. I'll admit, when our friends invited us to meet them in Mooresville for dinner, we had our doubts. It was a 30 minute drive, to a town we'd never visited- how good could the food scene be? Well, I can't speak for the rest of Mooresville but Zydeco's is a little diamond in the rough. This is a restaurant that's doing it all right. When you first see it from outside on Main Street, your drawn in. Then you walk in and hear the fun music and the eclectic ambiance is so cool. Every corner has a different unique item- posters on the ceiling, chimpanzee statues by the bar, twinkling lights, oyster art... unique is the only way to describe it. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, quick and ready to offer suggestions. They steered us in the right directions because we all loved everything we tried. They even have a little market in the front to grab your favorite Cajun seasonings, Mardi Gras beads or local honey. I've been blessed to have many fine meals in my life and this certainly was in my top 10 which says a lot. Took my foodie group here for an outing. While they don't take reservations, they do welcome a call ahead if you're bringing in a larger group. I was told to call when we are on the way, which I did and they had the table almost set up by the time we got there. Of course I did try to come right at opening, so we can beat the crowd. The interior here is a must see, a collection of eclectic Mardi Gras items. Very welcoming. Our waiter was not only very attentive but also cute. which helps. The food was delicious and so were the drinks. Where else can you get gator on a stick and some Andy Gator beer, along with frog legs, gumbo, jambalaya and such things. My favorite are the po'boys... I had the fried shrimp variety and loved every inch of that sandwich. Great bread, great shrimp, great remoulade...wonderful. All my guests enjoyed their food tremendously. The reasons I took off a star: Lots of my guests asked about the size of the crab cake special and the waiter described as about the size of the palm of his hand, which was about 3.5 to 4 inches. The actual crab cakes were barely 2 inches in diameter and therefore disappointed. Maybe they were bigger before cooking, but still that was a huge difference. Staff is very friendly and inviting. They make solid recommendations for food & drink, including items off menu. The atmosphere is kinda kitschy, but in a fun way. The number of menu items may seem small, but variety outweighs the quantity. I tried the gumbo and crawfish tails. Both were good though not necessarily what I expected. I've had gumbo in New Orleans and other Cajun restaurants. I don't recall there being so much rice. I somewhat questioned if I received jambalaya instead of gumbo. The crawfish tails were served in a cup of warm, drawn butter. Not what I expected, but good nonetheless. My brother had alligator on a stick. It was exactly like alligator I've had at other places. If you've had alligator, it is what it is. He also ordered the jerky. It had the consistency of jerky and was heavily seasoned. If you like spice this is an interesting option. The atmosphere is great, especially when there's live music. I've been here a few times, and as those times have passed, the allure has too. The foods priced pretty high, and for the same amount of $$ I could go to ricks boatyard and have better food, even cray fish. The alligator drink is my favorite. I ordered a margarita last night and it was pretty sweet and weak, left a lot up be desired. The house dressing is really great. Can't believe it took us almost 7 yrs before we made an attempt to try out this place. Its been on our radar for a while of must try places in the Indy area. Needless to say, it did not disappoint. Place is cool and as expected adorned in Mardi Gras theme. But certainly the highlight for us was the dinner. For us, the barbeque shrimp alone is worth the drive coming all the way from the northside. Then they serve this awesome balsamic based dip for the bread. It's been several years since I've been to Zydeco's, so when the thought crossed my mind to create a "As Seen on TV" series in the Circle City, the episode of "Triple D" with Deb and Carter immediately came to mind. Zydeco's is located about 25 minutes from downtown Indy in downtown Mooresville, but it's well worth the drive. The second you walk in the door, it feels like New Orleans. Brick walls lined with beads, posters, pictures and memorabilia. It's a lively place with lots of laughter, music and all around good times. Bread and a dipping sauce arrive at the table pretty fast, and the sauce is delicious. A blend of Creole Mustard, Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar, this stuff would make cardboard taste delicious. I'm starting to drool thinking about how good it tastes on the bread right out of the oven. If you're like me and can't figure out what you want for dinner, take my advice and go for several small items rather than one big one - and they make it really easy to share. I went with a small dish of half and half, crawfish and cream of garlic soup. Each one was outstanding, but the Cream of Garlic Soup and Half and Half were by favorites, but all three were clear winners. It will be hard, but make sure you save room for dessert. Our table split the Bourbon Pecan Pie and the Bread Pudding with Rum Sauce. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with Bread Pudding, but I gladly took a second scoop of the Pecan Pie when it came around the table a second time. Zydeco's was featured on Diners, Drive In's and Dives a few years back for their take on Tasso's and tails.. A mixture of crawfish and andouille sausage. We were fortunate to have a side of this too, but it somehow didn't make it around the table more than once. I'm pretty sure someone else tried it, liked it, and took it for their own.
