Stopped in on a whim because their parking lot stays packed and it is just 10 min from my house. It was late afternoon on a Saturday and while there was a good crowd I was able to sit down right away. This place is A Mexican Restaurant but they spring seafood so along with the salsa and chips you also get a bit of fish ceviche. The chips are made fresh and are absolutely delicious we got a Red and Green salsa both were delicious the res salsa was smoky and mild and the green was bright and spicy. I was not hungry but ordered shrimp empanadas and tacos. I thought I could get one of each but when ordering the waitress asked if I wanted 2 so I said of course. My husband loves spicy food and he ordered the devil shrimp which he loved. He Said the sauce was amazing and unique. We are Already planning our next visit because we regret we didn't get dessert. This is the Mexican place I have been searching for! If you love authentic and great seafood get here in a hurry. They have an amazing menu that covers all the bases like crab, shrimp, scallops, oysters, octopus and that was just in my ceviche. I had food envy for every plate I saw come out of the kitchen. They have my favorite thick crunchy chips not the bagged ones and amazing guacamole. The chips also come with a red salsa, a whitefish salsa and the green salsa that you better make sure to have your drink before trying it. Margaritas are very tasty and they have many other drink options. The paella is huge and was covered in seafood. That will be my next purchase. Most of the meals I saw would be good for a couple more when you get home. It's an unassuming place on 38th St. But don't pass it by! I had a friend rave about this restaurant so I decided to try it when I saw it was an offering on Door Dash. It was so, so delicious. None of the regurgitated Mexican that is just a different mixture of beef and cheese for every dish. This is legit Mexican seafood! What we ordered: Camarones Coras - lemon-y, perfectly spicy but not flames in your mouth. Love that is served with garlic bread to sop up all the delicious juices. Steak Tacos - full of delicious meat inbetween two tortillas. Didn't fall apart and that's pretty amazing considering it was delivered via car to our front door. Empanadas de Camaron - just YUM. Try them. Ceviche Tostadas - light and bright. Arrived with a huge bag of tostadas to make yours to your desired amount of ceviche on top. This place seems to be always packed with people wanting authentic Mexican food! I had to give it a try, it was on a Friday night and surprising we were able to get a table with no wait! There was some really loud live music/ karaoke going on and a clown was visiting tables with kids. I think music doesn't have to be that loud. Their menu had variety of things, but I tried steak tacos and virgin piña colada. They were both good but since many people have raving reviews about their seafood dishes, I will definitely try some next time. By far this is the best Mexican place for seafood, and believe me I've searched and tried many places and there is no other in whole Indianapolis. Located on 38th street, it's a nice restaurant that serves Nayarit style seafood, this place is packed everyday of the week but during the weekends you will definitely see entire families inside enjoying the great food and drinks this place has. The parking lot is pretty big for a lot of cars and they also have a drive thru section if you're picking up food. I wouldn't trust google images of the menu since its renovated and prices have changed, I was just here this first week of 2021 and saw the changes. So when I got here I saw they ask you to wear a mask and that they have skipped a few tables to enforce social distancing, they ask everyone to wear a mask and if there's no table available at the moment they will write you down in their list but you will have to wait inside your car. During weekends you might see some clowns around for the kids or even mariachi to entertain people while they eat, so be prepared for some noise if you plan on eating there. I love ceviche and I have been to all Mexican restaurants in Indy and the reason I drive 22 minutes to eat at this place is because they serve a good amount of real ceviche and they don't try to make it look like it's a lot by adding more onion which is the thing with other places; here you will try real fish. Now, to properly eat this ceviche they have crunchy chips and a very spicy and tasty green sauce, be careful this will make you have a runny nose. Now another thing that I love having here is shrimp cocktails and shrimp empanadas those are really tasty and when they serve empanadas they add a very creamy and spicy sauce on the side. During my last visit the guy who was in charge of the list was very proactive and when they were about to give me my table he placed my order for food so it took less than 15 minutes to have the dish on my table, loved the service all waiters were taking good care of their tables. I wish they would open another restaurant near downtown or broadripple. The only complaint is that a dinner here will result a little expensive with a few things but I once a month i guess it's ok! My friend picked this place for her bday dinner and it was my first time dining here. As soon as we walked in there was a mariachi band playing and singing to customers at a table. The music was louder than normal and then I noticed that the instruments were plugged into a speaker. Too loud for me unfortunately. Once seated, our host made sure we knew that it was karaoke night and we were right by the speaker. He asked did we want to move tables and we did.......on the opposite side to be exact. That was nice of him. The restaurant is not very big. It has the look and feel of a typical Mexican restaurant. Not very modern either. Once seated we had frozen margaritas that were delish. They serve complimentary chips, salsa and fish ceviche. The ceviche was very tasty! My friend doesn't really like seafood and she even liked the ceviche. Our server barely understood English. I asked a few questions about gluten and she just stared at me and kept smiling with no answer. She did however bring another lady over so that I could ask my question. Unfortunately she had zero knowledge as to what gluten even is. It's amazing to me how people that work in the food industry have no regard and are uninformed about their own products when it comes to allergens. Unacceptable! I enjoyed seafood paella for my entree. A couple crab legs, mussels, clams, scallops, shrimp and octopus served with seasoned rice. The dish was pretty good and the portion was huge. Incredible! This place was a bit out of my comfort zone as I don't usually eat seafood in Indianapolis, and I've never had this style of food before, but everything was incredible and it might just be my new favorite place in town! While there was a bit of a language barrier, the servers were super sweet and brought someone over to answer any menu questions I had. My hubby went with the fajitas which he said were incredible, and I second the multiple other reviews on here who said to order the half-and-half (half shrimp, half langostinos). It's cooked in this spicy, buttery, sweet, butter Chile de Arbol sauce that HOLY MACKEREL is it INCREDIBLE. The rice that they serve it with absorbs all the delicious saucy goodness and OMG. This is a stellar lunch experience. If you enjoy ceviche, or have ever been interested in trying it, this is the place. Instead of salsa, they bring out ceviche, green sauce, and chips, so if you end up hating it, you haven't spent any money to try it. Their chips are made in house and you can tell. They're the kind of chips that are crispy, with a bit of crunch, not 100% hard crunch. The green sauce is bright and spicy. My husband is allergic to fish, so he got the three meat fajitas meal, with beef, chicken, and shrimp (which he can safely eat). I ordered the shrimp flautas. Both meals came with beans and rice, but not the usual beans and rice that you might be accustomed to. The beans are soupier and are not mashed; they're flavorful and mild. The rice is white rice and is lightly seasoned, also mild. My meal came with a small cup of extra sauce. It was orange in color and perfectly seasoned. It wasn't spicy, but it was spiced. The waiter was attentive and had a good sense of humor. He asked if we preferred Spanish or English speaking, which was a nice touch. We were in and out within an hour and there were small groups of business people eating while we were there, which seems to be a good sign that they can accommodate a business lunch over the lunch hour. read more

As soon as I sat down, I knew I was in for a treat. Our waitress greeted us not only with chips and salsa, but also fish ceviche. While happily snacking on that delicious ceviche, I found myself staring at the other tables to see first-hand what treats were in store on the menu. My friend and I initially set out to order to paella entrees, but the manager told us that one paella was a very large portion, and that we would do better to order one and then select another entree to split. This turned out to be great advice. We ordered a whole fried tilapia in addition to the paella, and that was more than enough for two people to tackle in one sitting. The paella was filled with shrimp, scallops, octopus, clams, mussels, and a crab leg for each of us, plus the perfectly seasoned rice (because what's a paella without good rice?). It's served on a large platter, clearly for sharing. The tilapia was seasoned, fried, and served whole - head and tail included. I've only ever seen tilapia in filet form, so I was surprised by the size of the fish. We ate our fill with plenty to split between two to go boxes. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Since neither of us had been to the restaurant before, we had a lot of questions about menu items or entrees that were being served to patrons at other tables (for example, the very popular Molcajete San Blas). There was also live music during our time there. El Puerto de San Blas was my first experience with the seafood side of Mexican cuisine, and I must say that I'm impressed. All credit to the Savor the International Marketplace week event that put this place on my radar. I will definitely return! read more

What a great little place! I was met quickly at the door and sat within moments, the server brought me spicy tomatillo salsa and a sample of ceviche, which frankly was great. I noticed that the majority of the menu was seafood which was a phenomenal surprise. We decided to order a plate to share and holy cow this ceviche was absolutely incredible! It was perfectly citrusy -- not too much lime and not too much orange. It honestly couldn't have been better. Not Tex-Mex, but the real thing. There are plenty of Mexican places nearer to where I live (near the Pyramids) but this is worth the drive. First, be forewarned that most servers speak minimal English, so if you need to special order something, be ready to dust off your high school Spanish. If you are ordering off the menu, they will look upon you kindly if you just sheepishly point. I was disappointing with the service this time though. Our server was very inattentive, not checking on us, leaving our water glasses empty, and taking a very long time to bring our check. The food did NOT disappoint. The free chips and salsa are just as hot as I remember, and the crab ceviche is still delicious. I ordered the queso and it is the standard melted white cheese dip. Nothing special, but tasty. The steak tacos are overflowing with meat. There was a lot, A LOT of fat (not just bits of fat but actual chunks of gristle) but even after dissecting out nearly half of meat, there was still plenty left to fill the taco. Me Encanta! I LOVE this place! On the outside it may look a little sketchy but on the inside you will see that it is jam packed with people enjoying their food! My father brought me to this restaurant for my birthday and I've been back many many times since! It's an hour drive from where I live and sometimes an hour wait just to be seated but I will happily wait just to order my Molcajete San Blas! It's soo much food but I refuse to leave any of it! Chips, Salsa, etc, were delivered promptly and our drink order taken for our party of four. Our waitress was back for our dinner order, which came quickly and plentifully. This place is great. They used to be a couple blacks away on Lafayette Rd in an old Captain D's, but business was so good that they moved to this much larger location. On Sunday night this place was packed. It must have been family night or something. There was a clown walking around making balloon animals for the kids. And there were 2 mariachis walking around playing at the tables (they alternated songs so as not to confuse everyone). You know you're in a different kind of Mexican restaurant right away as they serve you not just chips and salsa, but also ceviche. Obviously, this isn't the high-end stuff (you have to pay for that) and most likely the trimmings that would have been discarded, but still a nice touch. The thing to get here is the big bowl of seafood served in a molcajete - the giant Mexican version of the mortar and pestle (minus the pestle). They heat it up before filling it with the seafood and it keeps your food warm for the entire dinner. The dish is meant to be eaten by 1 person, but 2 normal-sized people will be satisfied so split it. The flavor that they impart to the seafood is amazing. Reminds me a lot of a Cajun crawfish boil. read more

A friend and I stopped here for an impromptu lunch. As I approached I was unsure what to expect as the exterior is a little run down but I am happy to say I was pleased with my experience. We were greeted promptly at the door by a smiling staff. Once we sat down and gave our drink orders, the fresh chips, ceviche and spicy green salsa arrived. The ceviche was so delicious it was gone before we ordered. They had lunch sized paella for $9.99 so I tried it. I have to say I was impressed. There was more seafood than rice in my serving and the size was not small. There was one mussel, one real crab leg but the rest of the dish was studded with bay scallops and tons of shrimp. Yes there was also some imitation crab too but there was less of that than real seafood. Also folks, remember we are in land locked Indiana, fresh seafood isn't easily accessible here. My lunch date had the fish tacos which were also delicious and huge. During lunch a gentleman approached our table and commented on how the paella is his dish. Turns out it is his family's place. We learned the story of how the family is from the Pacific Coast of Mexico where fresh seafood is plentiful. It was an enjoyable lunch and I will be back soon! read more

Delicious lunch! (Other reviews said there is a lunch buffet, there is not.) I had Camarones al Chipotle approx $9.50. It was wonderful! Plenty of nice size, perfectly cooked shrimp swimming in a smoky chipotle sauce. Included rice, athick slice of toasted bread and a fresh salad, garnished with slices of lime and orange. The chipotle sauce had a little heat, but tons of flavor which complimented the shrimp. Free chips, salsa & ceviche were served when I sat down. The ceviche was incredible! We had dinner at El Puerto de San Blas on Friday to have with some friends. This place screams authentic coastal mexican cuisine, and the food does not dissapoint. On Fridays from 7-10 they have live music and the singer walks around from table to table making customers sing, maybe a bit too loud and annoying for my taste. The silverware was dirty and that was a big no-no for me. My favorite dish was the paella, very rich and packed with seafood. The prices were pretty good considering the amount of seafood on every dish you get. Overall a nice place to have dinner at, but if you like a more calm environment, do not go from 7-10 on Fridays. read more
