What can I say about this hotel but amazing! This is my second time here and this property doesn't disappoint. The modern upscale decor with neutral earth tone colors that is all over the property feels very comforting as well as peaceful. We have tried all the restaurants and bars, our favorite is the Italian and room service! But everything is good, the brick oven pizza spot by the pool is always a winner, the bars serves anything from a verbena hurricane to Miami Vice lol again it's limitless. For an all inclusive property I'm very impressed and definitely am a regular already This property is about 1.5 hours away from Cancun airport and 20 minutes from playa del Carmen. read more

This was our first (and last) experience at an all-inclusive resort. Our first observation is that it creates a distorted sense of waste. We would go to a restaurant and order more than we can eat, just to try a lot of things and then wind up throwing a lot of food out. This is morally reprehensible to us and we had to start watching ourselves in order to sleep well at night. Alcohol flows freely at this resort. You are literally never more than a 2 minute walk to a bar. To us, there is something shady about such ready and easy access to alcohol. We had to really be mindful of pacing ourselves and we found that being around so many drunk people is disconcerting and not enjoyable. (Also, they couldn't make a Manhattan to save their lives!). The food was uneven. Room service was ok and depended on ordering food that travelled well because we were apparently pretty far from the kitchen. The Mexican restaurant was mostly good. The American steakhouse was quite good. The Italian was awful. The breakfast and lunch buffets were fine. The a la carte breakfast was quite good. For a resort that touts itself as "five diamond", adjectives like fine, good, and awful aren't good enough. It should have all been stellar. I could say the same about the spa. The experience starts with a series of "aromatherapy" treatments in each gender-specific area. I hated that the attendants insisted that I leave on my swimsuit to sit in the sauna and hot tub. And they kept telling me when to move along to the next thing rather than let me set my own pace. The sauna was barely hot and the hot tub was luke warm at best. I felt lucky to get a good massage. My wife reported that hers was kinda "meh". In short, this was not a five diamond spa. The level of service throughout the resort was good, but it was almost too good. It felt like the staff tried too hard to please the privileged white people (to be fair, I saw more than a few guests who were non-white, but in this context, they may as well have been white). Yes they are working for tips, but this was over the top for me. They made this Bay Area liberal feel very uncomfortable. I'm not opposed to good service, but there was definitely a class and privilege structure here that didn't feel good to me. I guess 1-percenters like having their asses kissed. I didn't. And here's something heartbreaking that I learned. One of the waiters told us that he is paid $6 (US) per day. Sure he makes tips. And, to be fair, I don't know the local standard of living. Maybe $6 plus tips goes a long way in the local economy. Still, given what we spent on the room and given that this resort is owned by the Hard Rock Corporation, they could pay the employees more than $6 a day! Nearly every night, there is a party set up on one of the concrete platforms near the main pools, often with loud music. So if you have a room in the central section of the hotel overlooking the pools, don't even think about getting to bed until the party is over. They told us that these parties end at 10 pm, but we saw a wedding go on until after 11. We had an Alcoba Ocean View room. It was on the 3rd floor at the far end of the hotel and had a Corona Beer commercial view of the Caribbean Sea. We loved our room! We loved being away from the noise (mostly, more on that below). We loved that we could freely walk naked on our balcony to get into our hot tub (which we would not be able to do if our room was in the main part of the hotel overlooking the pools). We spent a lot of time in that tub! On Saturday night, we got back to our room and could hear loud dance music coming from the property next door! They told us that this would go on all night, so they put us in an empty room farther away from the noise for the night just so we could sleep! (We left our stuff in our room and returned in the morning). So they have no noise agreement with their neighbors nor does the local municipality have any noise regulations. This was quite annoying. For our airport transport, we paid $144 for a two-way shared-ride. We were told that the return trip would leave at noon. However, since we had a 5 pm flight, I asked if we could leave at 2 pm instead. They told me it would be an additional $80 per person because it would now be a private ride. And they would have charged us $120 for a late check out! This is ridiculous given how empty the resort was. It wouldn't cost them a dime to clean our room at 2 pm instead of noon. And here's the punchline. We were the only people in our shared shuttle! There is no reason why it couldn't have left at 2 pm. Unbelievable! So there you have it. Service that was too eager for our taste. A lot of white privilege. Food that was rarely 5 star. An ok spa. Free flowing alcohol. An all night party that forced us from our room for a night. And an uncoordinated and inflexible method of getting us back to the airport. We'll never go back here nor will we ever do another all-inclusive. They ruined it for us. read more

The food was ok for resort food. There are no buffets which I loved. They have an early morning and late night menu. If you're there for a few days, its perfect but you will get bored of the food if you're staying a while. Take advantage of the 25% spa fee - I got an 80 min couples for $210 (including my prenatal) and it was fantastic. There are no hidden fees, everything is pretty much black and white here which is another great advantage to this hotel. Its newer, its clean, and they make customer service their #1 priority. We eloped at Unico in February 2020 and it was the best decision we ever made! We spent 10 nights at the resort and could have stayed another month! The entire experience was incredible from the moment we arrived to the morning we left. I cannot say enough positive things about this resort and their employees. Before we even arrived our onsite coordinator, Nazareth, made the process a breeze. The AIC coordinator that we worked with out of Miami was a hot mess! She made my life miserable and I didn't even get a response from her until I emailed the department asking for a new coordinator. As soon as I was transferred to Nazareth at Unico everything was handled swiftly and efficiently. She had all the wedding details ironed out within a few emails and when I forgot my Mom's ring, which was supposed to be my something borrowed and something blue, she arranged to have a blue ribbon added to my bouquet and have my mother in law's locket sewn onto it. She is one of the sweetest humans I have ever met! Our local host was also tremendous. He began by unpacking all our bags while we got tacos and margaritas. Every day he tracked us down to make sure we had everything we needed, had a bath drawn every night, made sure we got mimosas and green juice delivered every morning, and coordinated with the wedding department to have our wedding clothes professionally steamed, etc. He even went as far as having our pool waiter radioed with questions regarding my wedding dress. He's an amazing local host! Our room number was 4505 and we were thrilled with the views (both ocean and jungle on the other side). I would definitely recommend requesting a room on the highest floor for the best view and privacy! As far as restaurants go, I was surprised that Mi Carisa was our favorite! I love Asian and Mexican food, but the Italian was just that good! A few of our favorite dishes were the Garlic Soup and the Chateaubriand at 20.87. We loved the duck and sushi at Mura House. The duck tacos at Cueva Siete. At the Italian we loved everything! The white wine mussels, the squid ink pasta, the lasagna, the shrimp stuffed conchiglioni, mushroom-crusted filet, and the PANNA COTTA! For lunch we typically went to 20.87 so I could order sushi. Then we would go grab some of the seafood tacos, onion rings with chipotle sauce, and a pizza after. The tacos al pastor were another favorite! For breakfast the buffet was great, but I was obsessed with Mi Carisa. It was typically very quiet and a lot of people didn't know it was open for breakfast. The casserole eggs, chilaquiles topped with fried eggs, and the avocado toast with fried eggs were my favorite. For drinks, we loved the Jade with vodka, the mojitos (especially when Alan made us cucumber mojitos) and the mango margaritas. The best thing I had at the resort had to be the homemade green hot sauce at Mi Carisa. It was hot, but amazing! I put it on everything. We did spend a few days at the main pool with friends that we made, but we spent most of our time at the quiet pool. We went for a walk on the beach everyday, but enjoyed the warmer water and smoother floor at the quiet pool. I did multiple spa treatments, including the 4 handed massage, which I highly recommend. I only wish the outdoor terrace and plunge pools had been open at the spa, but they were in the process of fixing them. Tips: Request the sushi menu at the buffet during lunch, because we had no servers offer it and most guests we met didn't know it existed. Explore the entire resort as soon as you arrive. Once again, we met a lot of guests who didn't even know the quiet pool existed until the end of their stay! Trust the staff and know they will make any celebration special! Instead of booking a cenotes and Tulum tour, create your own! Our local host got us a taxi for the day and we got to see and do everything at our own pace. Ask for homemade hot sauce everywhere! If you love all-inclusive​ and you're looking for a great place to relax on the beach and at the spa, Unico hotel is for you. This brand new hotel is absolutely stunning. What is pretty unique about Unica is that spa treatments are included in your stay, you just have to pay 20% of the total price. All meals, alcohol and some excursions (with a big group) are included. Some of the rooms have their own swim up pools, which feels pretty luxurious. This hotel surpasses 5 star American comfort. BEST All-Inclusive in Riviera Maya! During our search on All-inclusives in the Riviera Maya, we were really amazed at all the positive reviews on Único 20.87. At the time of our visit, June, 2018, the resort had been open less than two years. After reading all of the outstanding reviews, we had pretty high expectations upon our arrival. Throughout the 7 days there, our expectations were exceeded! They go above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your stay. They even provide you with a personal host that can help with reservations, etc. They have the best food options that we've had it any all-inclusive resort. Some of our favorites include the Mayan Coffee dessert at Cueva Sieta, spring rolls and fried rice at Mura House and the Tiramasu at Mi Carisa, just to name a few. All the food was high quality and amazing! The quality of the meals and snacks that you can get poolside were like no other that we've ever had. Also usually not impressed by buffets, we decided to check out the buffet at 20.87 (which is the steakhouse in the evening) and it was fantastic, with a lot of high-quality food options to choose from. There is so much more that we could tell you, but just to say that overall the food and the drinks were outstanding and the service was phenomenal. Our room was exceptionally comfortable. Every evening they have turn down service. One of the evenings they surprised us with a bubble bath in our balcony tub filled with Rose petals and a bottle of wine. The only negative was the beach had a lot of seaweed due to a storm that have come in prior to our arrival. No fault of the resort. In fact they worked daily to get it cleaned up. My husband and I visited Unico 20 87 last week for our honeymoon and man was it incredible! Every single staff member was great and went above and beyond what was expected for their role. Adriano was our personal attendant and he was incredible. Every single thing we needed he made sure it was taken care of from scheduling appointments for us, making dinner reservations to getting house keeping to come clean our room. Aside from the staff the hotel was amazing. The food was incredible. Our room was always clean and fully stocked from the mini bar to the toiletries. My husband and I also noticed about halfway through the trips there were surprisingly no bugs around the resort so whatever they do to keep them away is incredible and works wonders. This was a wonderful choice for my birthday. My hubby and 5 other friends spent 5 relaxing days here. Pros: Drinks were wonderful, greeted you with a welcome drink so delicious. Rooms are beautiful! Swim up was perfect to have, and added a fun element to our stay. All the food and buffets were great. Pizza by the pool was yummy- build your own and I mean anything even items not listed. The bar/club was small and live entertainment was kinda corky, but was still good to have onsite. We did the yoga and pilates in the water, which was so cool. Had out hat decorated. Our absolute favorite was going out on the Katarmran, Santiago is the captain and his heart beats to those waves. We went out twice, because the water was so calm and beautiful. the scuba diving was awesome. Santiago knew where the fish would be and talked us through so much. Order churros! Enjoy the Spa! And ladies get a morracoon oil treatment at the salon, ask for Andrea, is was absolute heaven!! We were a little nervous but we decided to go into town Playa, and felt very safe with all the tourist walking around. This place is absolutely beautiful and picture perfect! Hope this helped you. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! This is our home away from home! I HIGHLY recommend this resort for honeymoons, or for any occasion with loved ones. You will NOT regret it! My husband and I stayed at UNICO for our honeymoon, and we absolutely loved it! We had a great experience with the staff, as they made us feel at home and provided high quality service throughout our stay. Our local host, Pascual Araoz, was absolutely wonderful! He assisted us with everything we needed in a professional manner, and went out of his way to make sure we had an outstanding stay. He was personable, professional, kind, and attentive the whole time. I cannot say enough great things about this place, and their service. Most importantly, the food was great and freshly cooked. Service is amazing in all places in the resort based off of our experience. If we needed anything, it was at our doorstep each time with no hesitancy. For those who plan to stay, we highly recommend the Italian restaurant (if possible, ask for a waiter named Nicolas). Nicolas was not only attentive, but he was also extremely humble, professional, and has excellent customer service skills. In addition, the resort was impeccable at every corner throughout our stay. We noticed that employees working towards ensuring that the resort was suitable for guests, and checking in with people to ensure their stay was high quality. This is our second time at Unico. The first time we came the resort was about a year old and had an amazing experience. The clientele was upscale, classy, and worth the money. This time we've never been so disappointed in our lives. We stay North or South of Cancun to get away from the "craziness" of the hotel zone. We are not old, love to have fun, but this hotel now caters to a much younger crowd and the hotel is no longer interested in keeping it classy and upscale. All you can hear in your room is people screaming and yelling at the top of their lungs! If you like it "crazy" you'll have a great time, if you're looking for laid back, classy, and the potential to take an afternoon nap after a day of too much sun, DO NOT COME HERE! This resort was stunning, clean, luxurious, and filled with kind hardworking people. My husband and I spent 6 nights in a ocean front room and it was beautiful. As a young couple who has never been to an all inclusive resort, we were really impressed by everything. Pros- local host Zulda was amazing. Every staff member we came into contact with was so nice and accommodating. Juan, who helped with our luggage, Antonio, the pool boy, Flavio our waiter at 2087 - and so many more!! The restaurants were delicious. They have a steakhouse, Japanese restaurant with Hibachi, an Italian restaurant, a Mexican restaurant, and a dessert cafe. They also have many bars and top shelf liquor! The spa was AWESOME. I did hydrotherapy, a massage, and facial. All included with just a 25% service fee and tip of course. They also had a bunch of activities. We did a cooking class and salsa lessons. Cons- literally, the only negative I have about this place is it's 1 hour away from the airport - and that's not a big deal. read more

We came to this location for a friends wedding. The hotel is very clean. I have been to a few resorts which offer all inclusive. This specific location offered food which was better than most other resorts. Unfortunately many activities were cancelled, restaurants closers earlier than usual, as did the club. This was due to COVID. All staff we encountered were pleasant. Rooms were kept very clean. They offered several nice touches, such as a beach hat, slippers, and a robe to enjoy. We didn't take advantage of the beach much, as there was a TON of seaweed, which didn't smell great. The hotel tried their best to remove tue seaweed at least once a day. The pools were nice, and there is staff to serve you. Unfortunately that is sometimes slow. Room service at night is very slow, and twice it didn't come. I give it a 3/5. Overall a great place to relax for a few days. Lovely space- architecture, landscaping, layout, etc. very relaxing. We loved our room which was ocean view on the 3rd floor with a jacuzzi on the balcony. Service was hit or miss, we had above and beyond, great but nothing to write home about and some terrible service experiences that left a bad taste in our mouths. So just know that going in, one experience isn't necessarily a gauge for the next. Food was generally awesome -- our favorite was the breakfast at the Italian restaurant (served for some reason at the Mexican place). The reservation system was frustrating in that we couldn't get a reservation to the Japanese place in the entire 5 days we were there, and when we tried to do walk-in, they said we can sit at the sushi bar and wouldn't allow us any food outside of the sushi menu, which was disappointing. After paying that much for an all inclusive you expect to get a chance to try all restaurants at least once and to be shut out because we didn't know to reserve spots in advance of our trip was so frustrating. Overall, great vacation but be aware it's not perfect and if you're not into dealing with annoyances on your vacation (nor should you expect to have to) then this is not the spot for you. We enjoyed our recent anniversary trip (September 2019) so much! Some quick tips, and then I'll dive in more deeply. 1. Local host: upon arrival, you are paired with a local host to make your stay as seamless as possible. You can text or call them with all kinds of requests, from setting up dining reservations and excursions to drawing a bath on your private balcony, and more. Ours was Fernando, and I reached out with questions throughout the week we were there. He was very responsive and helpful. 2. Oceanfront view: If you booked an Oceanfront view room, make sure you are on the 4th or 5th floor. We were originally on the 3rd floor of building one, and requested to be moved because the view was blocked by trees. 3. Mobile app: Download the Unico mobile app before your stay and you can learn all about the resort and make dining reservations ahead of time. 4. Hat painting: In your room, you'll find two straw hats. Once or twice a week they have someone outside by the pool who will custom paint your hats! Take advantage of this for a fun, free souvenir (make sure to tip). 5. Lunch options: For lunch, if you go to the buffet at 2087 there is a separate sushi menu (make sure you ask)! It's fresh and a nice lighter option. Or go to the small bar/brick oven pizza place in the middle of the two pools. I'm a NYer so pretty particular about pizza, and we really enjoyed it! Crust is nice and crispy, with good toppings. You can also order pizza to be brought to you at the beach or the pool. 6. No straws: Drinks are not served with straws, which for mixed drinks is a little inconvenient. We saw some people had packed their own metal straws and larger cups. 7. Room service: Surprisingly good! We got some steaks and churros, both were excellent. Rooms & resort: The resort rooms and grounds were super modern and brand new. There are three pools - a quiet pool behind one of the restaurants/buildings, the regular pool, and the "party" pool with the swim up bar and activities. We spent most of the time at the swim up bar - only complaint was that the bartenders there are not very friendly. We were pleasantly surprised by the beach - we were in building one so stayed on that side, and it was small, but had clear and calm water. It can get a little seaweed-y in the afternoon, but they do a great job with maintenance. We did feel the entertainment options overall at the resort were pretty scarce - you could grab a drink at the lobby bar or the lounge, but that's about it. Restaurants: The majority of the food was excellent, and much higher quality than we've had at other all inclusives. For breakfast, you can either go the buffet in 2087, or the a la carte in Mi Carisa. We loved Mi Carisa for both breakfast and dinner, and highly recommend the chilaquiles verde for breakfast. The avocado toast was also fantastic! There is also a small cafe with food and drinks - if you want an iced latte, just asked for iced espresso with your choice of milk and flavor. For dinner, there are four main options: Mi Carisa (Italian, and our favorite), Mura House (sushi & hibachi, very good), 2087 (Steakhouse, which we enjoyed but heard mixed reviews of), and Cueva Siete (Mexican, surprisingly our least favorite). Mi Carisa has an AMAZING beef carpaccio and beef fillet for dinner, order an extra mushroom risotto to share on the side. They cooked the meat perfectly - we asked for rare, and we got it! Delicious. We had a fabulous waiter, Federico, who made great recommendations. At Mura House, we loooooved Luis our waiter. The sushi was very fresh, and also did Hibachi one night that was fun and interactive. For 2087, we got the cowboy ribeye and parmesan risotto to share and really enjoyed it. For dessert, you MUST get the ice cream cart. Cueva Siete was just okay for us. If you go, get the duck tacos and mayan coffee for dessert. Excursions & Spa: We booked two excursions and also a couples massage at the spa. All those services are only a 25% service fee, so very reasonable! We did a full day at Coba & Tulum, which was fantastic but also super hot and exhausting. If you want an adventure & to experience Mexican culture, do it. If you're looking for relaxation, skip it. The aqua therapy in the spa was okay, mine was very thorough while my husbands was very brief (they are done separately by gender). Our couples massage was very relaxing. read more

My husband and I booked our vacation to Unico last August to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. We checked in on 3/3/2022. We had booked an Alcoba Ocean Front King Room- we very much wanted this type of room as it was one of my husband's only requests to have a beautiful ocean front view from our balcony. After checking in, we were told that our room would be a 1 room Estancia Suite with a Tropical View and they presented it to us as an "upgrade". I declined and asked for the Alcoba Ocean Front room we had booked, but they insisted on the Tropical View Suite- they told us it was a very nice, much more expensive room and that we could switch to an ocean front if we didn't like it. I realize now it's because they didn't have an ocean front room available, despite the fact that we booked 7 months ago. I've spoken with several other people who also had issues with their room being overbooked, including a honeymooning couple who was surprised at the airport that they'd be going to Hard Rock hotel instead of Unico- unbelievable! We spent the first night in the Tropical View Suite and I agree that it was a very nice room- but actually too big for our needs and we were really missing the ocean front view. We asked to switch to our Alcoba Ocean Front room that afternoon and were told that there were none available. We worked with our host, Miguel, and he promised us that the next day our booked room would be available and he also promised that it would be in Building 1 or 2 on the 4th or 5th floor which is what we originally requested. The next day came and we ended up in building 2 floor 3 (our promised room was given away to someone else) in another Estancia suite. The room was 2302. Again, the room was too big for our needs and I am still trying to verify if it was even an ocean front VS ocean view VS tropical view. A major issue that we noticed immediately with our new room was a horrible and constant musty smell. I immediately asked for the aromatherapy that they typically offer, but this was not done. I had a moisture absorber that I brought and set it up right away- it did nothing to help the smell. After our 2nd night in this new room (4th night total), I discovered black mold in most of the lampshades and the upper corner walls of the bathroom. We reported the mold to at least 5 different people (Our host Miguel, housekeeping, multiple front desk staff) and no one seemed to care. The very first person I told stated that he would have someone come to clean the mold and set up aromatherapy to help with the smell. We were not given a different room. They set up a dehumidifier that only got emptied if we did it ourselves and the inside of the dehumidifier was moldy as well. They did not attempt to clean the mold itself. We received aromatherapy probably 2 out of the 5 times I asked for it to help combat the disgusting musty smell. We were vigilant with keeping the doors closed/locked and the AC on. I had a moisture absorber set up. I drew the line at stuffing towels under the doors- I feel like if guests have to do all of this at a "luxury" resort, then they need to reconsider their design and/or location. I really wish we were just given the room we booked and paid for half a year ago. The food was good but not mind-blowing like everyone describes. The pools were relaxing yet entertaining- we loved having out at pool 2087. The chair game is very real- I had to go out at 6:30am to get a good spot. The service was only good half of the time. There were several instances where items that we ordered just never came, despite reminding the waiter. We still tipped extremely generously throughout our stay. Honestly none of this really matters because our whole vacation was soured by the room and mold situation. I really tried to stay positive and not complain too much during our vacation because I didn't want to "ruin" it for my husband and myself. Travel has become a hobby of mine, however, and I spent months researching and preparing for this trip. After being home for a few days, I realized that this has nothing to do with having unrealistic expectations on my part and Unico should be held accountable. My husband and I are young and fairly healthy, so we hopefully won't get sick from the mold, but someone with a chronic lung condition or a compromised immune system could develop a serious illness from the mold. This coupled with the fact that we literally never stayed in the room type that we booked and paid for (7 months ago) has solidified my decision to never return to Unico or any of its sister hotels. read more

I scheduled my transfer from the airport to the hotel expecting to get smushed with random people in some rinky dinky typical van. Boy was I wrong. I got picked up in a new spacious van that had multiple cold beverage options. I arrive at the hotel and walk into a magical lobby that looks like something out of a modern Moroccan Harry Potter movie. The staff quickly gets me a cocktail while I get checked in. I am then escorted to my room, which I swore was a mistake because there's no way I could afford the suite I was walked into. The man assured me this was my "standard room". The view was SPECTACULAR. Just take a look at my pictures. While at Unico I ate everything in sight. From the ceviche at the pool to the sushi and late night menu everything was great. I had never had such delicious food at an all inclusive resort. They have multiple restaurants options so you could eat authentic Italian one day, Japanese another, traditional Mexican another and you will never have to worry about getting bored. With all the eating I did I was thankful they had a state of the art gym. They even had enough treadmills so my friends and I could train together. It was clean and had tons of equipment so we could switch it up and do different exercises every day. Right next to the gym they had THE SPA. I took full advantage of the spa discount and got a massage every day. I had the 4 hands massage, hot stone, and the standard 90 minutes massage. All of them were fantastic. I had never had a massage with two people working on me at the same I recommend you try this one! The two masseuses were perfectly coordinated with their movements and it felt amazing. Make sure to get to the spa early to take advantage of all the pools and hydrotherapy treatments they have. The staff was very friendly and walked me through the circuit which was very impressive. My favorite was the steam room and the ice room. In the evenings just as the sun was going down I really enjoyed a long walk along the beach. It was only about 45 minutes from one side to the other. One of the mornings I booked a tour to the Mayan village and cenotes. My friends and I had a blast jumping from the rocks into the clear water. We zip lined from one place to the next and even got to hang upside down! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TOUR. It was so much fun! After a short canoe ride we were fed delicious tacos and headed back to the hotel just in time to enjoy some cocktails in the pool. I loved my Unico experience and will be returning soon! The staff here have exceed my expectations of customer service. Without them, I don't think I would have had the same amazing experience that I have had here. Check in- I came from a red-eye exhausted.. this immediately floated away the second I entered Unico. They welcome us with a fresh ginger lemonade and a personal butler who sat us on their couches in the lounge, explained a bit about us the property, and guided us to our room explaining everything. The spa- Daisy in the spa was amazing. She walked me trough my hydro therapy and every step was so rewarding. It was my first time doing it and the next day I came back for more. You got to try it!! The salon- Alma did my hair and did an amazing job styling it. She listened to how I like my hair and did an excellent job pulling it off. If your hair gets crazy in humidity (like mine) then you must try this. It's so rewarding! The pool- Which one right? They were all great and I loved the swim up bar. (so cool!!) Rodrigo was our server and kept reading our minds on when we needed another drink, water. And a towel. He was great! The restaurant- Cuva Siete was so good! One of the best dining experience ever. Ilse and Irma were great hosts to our dinner and Unico property itself. I am vegetarian, but Irma and her staff made me feel comfortable and was able to accommodate me some with fresh appetizers and lentil meatballs as a main course. So delicious! *They also make a flaming Mayan coffee for dessert. It's a must try if you have sweet tooth and like coffee :) * The room- Okay, no room is a bad room. Each one is amazing! Perfect size, great views, and so comfortable! I recommend the standard ocean corner room. Update to my previous review. The deceptive practices continue.... BEWARE. I got married at this beautiful resort and had an amazing wedding but after the wedding the deceptive practices began. I had upgraded many parts of my wedding and ended up overpaying and they refused to refund me the overpayment. It took months and many emails and phone calls to finally get them to refund me but only partially. (See prior review). Recently, I contacted the resort about using my two free nights I earned from having my wedding there. I had reached out to them last year bc we couldn't use it due to Covid and never heard back and in the meantime it had expired. I reached out again and they basically told me I was SOL. So bc it expired during Covid when no one was traveling they simply refused to honor any kind of extension even though we were ready to book our trip. Extremely disappointing. We will never visit Único again after they left such a bad taste in our mouths. Such a shame after a wonderful experience of our wedding. Great resort for the rooms, food, etc. but the shady practices and lack of customer service is just not worth it. Go somewhere else, there are many other great options. read more

Made a reservation for this hotel and they have double charged me. I've called several times and everyone I've spoken to said the money can't be refunded because it's last the date I can cancel. I'm not trying to cancel, I want them to refund the extra money they shouldn't have charged me. They keep giving me the run around and no one is helping. The hotel is gorgeous, and service is exceptional! But the food is just not good. Was expecting traditional Mexican food, but it just didn't happen. The portions are tiny, so we had to order multiple plates. I hope that the hotel and resorts would stop catering to the white folks in America. People come to other countries to experience their food, not what we eat in America. I also hope that Único starts plying more Spanish music, and not rock. read more

Unico 2087 really did captured magic with the aesthetic. And feel it's like a tropical jungle vibe that matches the riviera maya in my opinion perfectly however during my and my girlfriend recent stay from July 3rd - 6th we had a tropical storm that passed and the resort handled the situation very poorly they cut all alcohol (this was by directive of the government so understandable) and canceled dinner and closed all restaurants directing us to stay in our rooms and gave us a turkey and cheese sandwich in a brown paper bag essentially taking the all inclusive out of the all inclusive I understand weather is an uncontrollable variable however if you're going to charge me for unlimited food and drink then cut my food and drinks without compensation it really felt like theft we didn't pay for a motel six I'm really disappointed in how the situation was managed because I loved the facility's the room the area and the beach I hope the resort learns from this and figures out how to better handle such situations in the future read more

Hmm..where do I begin. Lets start with the positives. This place is BEAUTIFUL. I mean seriously, the resort itself, every restuant, each room, the grounds, the landscaping, everything is so aesethic. There are workers everywhere ensuring the grounds are kept up and Unico is clean and smelling fresh...literally they have scents running throughout the hotel to promote relaxation. The food! I don't think there was anything I didnt like. Honestly, I am a food blogger, so I am very picky, yet every resturant had something I fell in love with. Even the pool side service food was incredible. The spa. BY ALL MEANS GO GET A MASSAGE. Okay, now for what you're here for; the bad. It started when we arrived. We had an Ocean View Suite. Excitedly, we opened our door on the 3rd floor only to realize we could not see the ocean. Not at all. Not in the least bit. So, we kindly brought this up to the front desk and they changed our room to the 4th floor, after 2 nights. Crisis slightly averted, we were pleased. Issues with the room. We stayed in a two bed, one bedroom suite, but we had three guests. Myself, my best friend and her mother. The staff clearly knew there were three of us in the room however, everything was in sets of two. Two robes, two coffee cups (coffee machine didnt work but that's another story), two pairs of slippers, you get the point. We asked repeatedly, however tres must sound like two because this small issue was never resolved...we stayed 6 days. Also, the room is hot. I mean I sleep in the cold but if I set the thermastat to 60, you'd expect it to like slightly blow cold air...it doesn't. The service. LOL. Okay, so this is a hit and a miss. Mainly a miss. You'll go to one resturant and have the best service in the world or you'll go to another and basically get better service at a Mcdonald's drive thru. Our experience with pool service was laughable. We had to wait 30 minutes for warm bottled water. Our pool server constantly gave us attitude for reasons I have yet to figure out. We spoke to our local host about our issues and bless his little heart, I do believe he tried, but just couldn't ever suceed in getting this corrected. The beach, or otherwise known as the ten feet to the water that was covered in seaweed. There was a storm that hit prior to us coming which resulted in mass amounts of seaweed piled along the shore. There's a loud machine that comes to pick the seaweed up, which is great, however; the stench of the seaweed and the pesky knats it brought along forced us to stay at the pool the entire trip. And the finale..same local host had one job towards the end of the trip. We really left him alone after all of our problems and he ended up being off two of the days we were there?? Anyways, we needed two taxis for the day we left- one for me at 3am (yeah) and one for the other two guests at 7am. We had seperate flights. My 3am taxi was there with no problems, however, my friend's had no taxi ready for them. So, basically, in a nutshell, this place is BEAUTFUL, but the service just does not match. For the price you pay, you should not have the issues we had. Oh, also, don't ask your local host for a restaurant outside of the resort. Ours sent us to a tourist trap with quite possibly the nasiest food I've tasted. read more

I'm writing this review after much discussion with the resort. They ignored many of our notifications of issues, and had no explanations for others. No effort was made to make things right other than to come back and try again with some comped rooms. We booked months in advance, paid full rack rate apparently. We had high expectations given the recommendations of friends and the price paid. We were severely let down to say the least. The food wasn't great, was often cold. Service was slow and unenthusiastic, with a couple of exceptions. Drinks were watered down. Shower didn't drain in the room, a room change was denied. It was impossible to get a chair by the pool unless you arrived at 7:30am and put a towel and/or personal item on a chair to "reserve" it. Even then, no guarantees. Beach was terrible, with broken umbrellas, inability to order food, and constant solicitation to buy drugs. WEBCAM images are fake! Shameful.It was my birthday, they delivered a piece of lousy cheesecake to the table next to us. There were several parties on the property that were so loud it was unpleasant to be anywhere near the pool area. Room service items were left in front of the rooms for days, in the rain. The hallway in front of our room was filthy most days. Pre-ordered mixology was not in the room. Pillow order was not fulfilled. We spoke to multiple guests that were paying MUCH less than we were for our rooms, with free cabana rentals, credits to use for massages, etc. Wine program is terrible, and if you want a decent bottle of wine, prepare for a 300-400% markup. We got charged for transportation from the airport that we never used and the hotel refused to take it off the bill. Conversations continued after returning home and they finally removed the charge, but that is how it ended. I spent years in hospitality. I know what it's supposed to look like. It's clear that Unico has no concern for the guest experience, because there's a new crop of people every week. They don't care if we don't come back. We ran into several people having a similar experience to ours. The tide will turn and this approach will come back to haunt them. This was a huge let down after months of anticipation and excitement. And Unico did very little to make it right. We won't go back, not even to stay for free. read more

Beautiful resort and incredible staff. The food offered was very tasty, just make sure you have a reservation for dinners. We visited in July so the main pools were very hot, but our swim up pool stayed cool. The staff was very welcoming and accommodated us very well. The entertainment staff was amazing, especially Ricardo and DJ Pepe. Definitely plan on returning! read more

Loved this resort. So clean and beautiful, we had great customer service. Rooms were so clean and modern. Food was not 5 star, but was still tasty. I will say the buffet was 5 star for breakfast and lunch. Negative was a long check-in where you sit down and check in. They need to make this fast. Long ride to and from the airport. I just want to get checked in and relax. People there that we met were a blast. They have a La Botella where they sale wine separately. I bought a bottle every day because I didn't care for the Chardonnay they offered all inclusive. Loved the clothing boutique. read more

We stayed at this hotel from in 2021 4th July holiday , worse beach hotel we ever been . There ia absloulety no beach to use or enjoy. entire beach was loaded with Dead Sea weeds that has been piled and covered their entire beach. It smelled like sewer line and surrounded with lots of bugs. Please don't be fooled by their fake web site pictures. We talk to the front desk they said they asked higher management many times but they ignore the problem because of the cost involved. We are sadly en route back home from our epic Honeymoon & we discriminately chose Único for this romantic occasion. I shall delve into all the minute intricacies to hopefully guide others from what we bountifully reaped from this celestial experience! Designated, perfectly described transportation representatives met us at the airport & we were escorted to a spacious, luxury, Honda van. We were truly impressed with the expediency of leaving the airport as we were whisked away luggage & all within 5 minutes of emerging from the airport. Our transportation host was polite & greeted, introduced & verified customers & luggage. The trip was longer than I had anticipated as it was a little over an hour from the airport. My recommendation is to purchase a potent margarita as we did for the ride. Upon arrival to the destination, immediately an exuberant team descended upon us to receive our luggage, bring libation of choice & check your jet lagged reeling soul in. Please note, in order to receive honeymoon inclusions you must provide a picture of your marriage certificate at check in & also mention it to allocated host. Also, note, when they give you a choice of spa scented candles, this is the scent they spray your room with & comes through your vents. The lobby is masterful with clean, cool colors & yet artistically adorned with light fixtures reminiscent of Catholic cathedral; simply breathtaking. There is also, a pool table, checkers tables & a bar right past the lobby. Grounds are lush & pristine with many pops of bright floral throughout. We upgraded to an ocean view suite with the balcony jetted tub which is divine if you plan on indulging! Room was, modern, spa like & architecture was strong & magnificent. Mini bar was stocked out with chips, nuts, granola bars, cokes, beer, wine & water. Heavens, the bed is like sleeping on a multitude of clouds... View of the ocean, stunning sunrise & sunset was spectacular! I do want to mention a couple of details about the room which I discovered later... The full length mirror is behind the sliding door in the bathroom! Your room will be impeccably cleaned with turn down service at night inclusive of chocolates but, make sure to tell your host your preferred temperature of the room as to ensure it is cool enough when you return from your shenanigans! My only dismay with the room is there are no ceiling fans & this would really help circulate the air! Aw, note to cocktail officianados, you can request from your personal host to stock your bar with premium liquor of choice as well any accoutrements you desire! The pools are delightful, water is bath water temperature & the swim up bars are an aqua cerulean fantasy. We adored Alan, we tipped him daily & he could whip up anything from a Colorado bull dog to Dirty monkey & never, ever skimps on liquor! A little inside tip: bring your Yeti friends! They will fill & replenish it with beverage of choice!! They no longer carry straws, so do not ask for one... Towels are provided at the pool & a montage of various fun such as beer pong, floating poker & a lively DJ! Poolside treats are legit & I would be amiss not to recommend the decadently sinful cheese quesadillas with chorizo & homemade guacamole!!!! The Mexican Siete restaurants was are our hot, blazing favorite was the chicken with the pinion sauce. (This is a pumpkin seed based cream sauce, carefully seasoned to create a liquid ambrosia). Italian food restaurant presents as spacious, airy & environment is an aphrodisiac paired with vino, sumptuous sauce laden pasta & ending with a chocolate forward tiramisu. All service in every restaurant sets an extreme precedent which should be mirrored in all establishments. The kindnesses & attention to intricate details were a powerful statement to the crave worthy culture of this place! The last two restaurants are very good & quite a show at the hibachi house but, please make reservation on first night of arrival to receive optimum time. Steaks at the steakhouse are 100 percent cooked to specification. Ample & expansive breakfast buffet, I suggest to veer to the Mexican Cooking area & order the chiliquiles & specify adding an egg to your liking on top! Every cuisine locale offers vegan options. Now, about the wine... Premium liquor is included in all inclusive BUT, wine more premium than house wine is an extra charge!!!!! Spa is fabulous & our couples massage exorcised a few demons & the result was two relaxed, purified souls! Very clean, soothing yet not over the top atmosphere. Extremely pleasurable & hugely reasonable price point. (100 dollars 50 minute couple massage) Honeymoon inclusion package is lovely! My husband and I have visited Mexico a number of times, and this resort comes to the top of our list now. From the ambiance, decor, food, service and amenities this place is top notch!! We came here with family and really enjoyed ourselves. Some of our highlights: The hotel is stunning. Beautiful decor & easy to navigate the grounds. Pool areas were terrific. Perfect temperature water and lots of lounge chairs. We especially loved Cris and Memmo at the pool- these guys work their butts off trying to accommodate all the guests. They were friendly, funny, and never left us empty handed!!! Talk about top notch service! Today they hosted a pool party and it was a lot of fun. Great music, cool pool floating props-overall a great time. Loved our rooms! Views were breathtaking from the balcony and the decor/set up was excellent. Our local host Edgar was fantastic and surprised us with a bubble bath one evening with a bottle of wine- nice touch! The Spa was INCREDIBLE!! My husband and I each did a Escenia massage (two massage therapists at once) and it was out of this world. Each of us enjoyed an unbelievable 50 minute massage. Cristina, Rosa, Rosa & Laura we're amazing. Wish we would have booked this earlier in the trip cause we would have requested them each again and repeated the service. Food was very good. Highly recommend the beef at the Italian place (server there, Carlos, was great!). At the mexican restaurant, the duck tacos are a MUST try - unbelievable!! Restaurant 2087 was also very good but we especially enjoyed the service. Alfonso had us laughing the entire evening and did a phenomenal job serving us. At the pool, definitely order the ceviche & seafood tacos- delicious!! The hibachi restaurant was delicious, although we wished that you could order sushi at the hibachi table especially if part of the group want hibachi and part do not - currently you can only get 2 types of rolls at the hibachi vs the full menu. We loved how the hotel was currently offering special inclusion rates. From the spa to excursions, you get to enjoy the service for a small fee of 20%! It's an unbeatable offer! Traveler Tips: *Bring lots of change ($) - front desk does not also have change for bigger bills, so if you're looking to tip, it becomes a challenger to get change for $20 or higher. * Bring straws. This is a straw-free resort so your fruity drinks at the pool will not come with a straw. Makes it challenging to drink the bottom of your frozen margarita without spilling. Even better, bring your own insulted water bottle with a straw to pour your drink into to keep it cool. Overall, highly recommend Unico!! read more

Very impressed overall by this resort. Their attention to detail with the rooms and restaurants is outstanding. The staff did an excellent job with Covid precautions in sanitizing pool chairs, cleaning rooms, and wearing masks. The beach was better than I anticipated from some reviews - plenty of blue water and white sand as seaweed was removed frequently through the day. Only gripe really was that on a few days during the week the pool took on a "club" like atmosphere with a live DJ for 4 hours at a super loud volume. That took away from the romantic vacation I was trying to have with my partner. Also, was a bit skeptical of the margaritas having real tequila since they all tasted week. My husband and I came here with the intention of not leaving the resort, complete relaxation, and essentially not lifting a finger. This all-inclusive is definitely a level above the typical all inclusive in the area, so it's safe to adjust your expectations upwards a little! Some things we really liked about the resort: -ADULTS ONLY - no crying babies, need I say more? -Concierge service - our local host was incredible and made all dinner reservations for us. They also book excursions for you (do it! There are gorgeous cenotes near by) -Food - the resort has so many different options. I would give the food a 6-7 out of 10. This compares to my snob rating for other all-inclusive resorts' food of 4. Not the best meal of your life but WAY better than the standard fare at similar resorts. I personally liked Cueva Siete the best. -Spa - Y'ALL. Do. Not. Skip. Hydrotherapy. When booking you're told you can come an hour prior to your appointment to enjoy their hydrotherapy experience. It was a great primer to get relaxed and I highly recommend! -Golf - the resort partners with the Hard Rock Resort nearby so the guests can use their golf course. Unico runs a shuttle back and forth. Hubs had a great time - he said the course was challenging but beautiful, and he liked all the wildlife that he saw while playing. We just got back from spending a week there for New Year's. With the ongoing pandemic, we felt so safe and they did an amazing job of keeping things clean, reminded guests to continue to sanitize, and all staff wore face coverings. We couldn't have asked for more when it came to being precautious of Covid 19. We did have a few issues when we wanted to extend our vacation. Something that should have been so simple was NOT. We did this before going and I was on the phone with six people and over an hour trying to extend the vacation. I had to wait twenty four hours before I could get a response confirming the extension. During check in, we were told that since we arrived late by Jackie that we could walk in to any of the restaurants with no wait or max 5 minutes. That was not the case. By every restaurant we were told we would have to wait at least 30 minutes. After traveling all day and being told we wouldn't have to wait, that it not what we wanted to hear.. To be honest, the beginning of our trip did not seem promising.. However, the poolside staff was phenomenal. Manuel the waiter, Alejandro the towel and chair person, and Gerudo (Gerry is what I called him) the waiter were absolutely THE BEST! Those three people really turned the trip around for us! They really took the best care of us and I honestly cannot wait to come back and see them! Agustin, our local host, was also very wonderful! He really took care the stuff I did not want to deal with such as transfer and reservations! There was also a nice older gentleman at the lobby bar who took great care of us too. I think his name was Ray or something along those lines. He always had my drink waiting on me when I sat down. As for rooms, pools, and restaurants for the resort I would give it 3 stars. The rooms are decently good. The option of four different pools is very nice because if you feel like partying then you go to that pool, but if you want to relax you have that option too. The food at the restaurant is average. I had higher expectations and it was good but nothing to boast about. The Japanese restaurant was the absolute best! Make sure you try to eat at both at a regular table, but then also at the hibachi part. Both are really good. Overall, we had a great time! However, I do think they have some management issues. Anytime, I wanted to speak to them they either were unavailable or were not helpful. The people who work everyday in the service portion with the actual guests really are the pillars for this resort. Like I said if it weren't for Manuel, Alejandro, Gerudo, Agustin, and Ray.. we would have not enjoyed our stay to be honest. read more

Pros - My husband and I wanted and quiet and relaxing trip before the new school year - and Unico didn't disappoint. We relaxed by the pool that didn't have the activities, but if you like more entertainment there is a pool for that. We tried all the restaurants and loved most of the food. There are always going to be things you try you don't like, but overall it was yummy and the service was fantastic. The workers at this resort work so hard to make sure their travelers are happy. The room was cleaned very well and I never felt like anything wasn't cleaned to perfection. Cons - If you're looking for a beach, this is probably not the place for you. There are piles of seaweed on the beach and lots of rocks. They do try to keep it all clean, but it seems hopeless. Also, the swim up bars were all closed, which is usually our favorite place to hang. And there was very little entertainment at night. Not sure if that's bc of COVID or just how the resort is at night. Again, great place to relax and very friendly people! read more
