"With all due respect", which I heard frequently, as if I were to dismiss all words following the statement. My experience with #1 Auto Detailing was defined less by the quality of the work and more by the owner's behavior, which made the entire interaction uncomfortable and unprofessional. The owner frequently shifted from discussing the service to venting about personal issues, which not only derailed the conversation but also made it difficult to get clear answers about the work being done. His attitude throughout was defensive and dismissive, especially when I asked for clarification on the services he promised. Several commitments he made -- regarding the timeline, level of detail, and specific corrections -- were not fulfilled. When I asked about the discrepancies, he responded with frustration rather than accountability. The gap between what he promised and what he delivered was significant, and the constant injection of personal problems into the interaction made the experience feel chaotic and unreliable. I left with the impression that the business is struggling under the weight of the owner's personal distractions and inflated confidence. I cannot recommend this shop based on my experience. read more

1. The owner is sexist. I don't appreciate how he talked down to me on the phone or my mother in person. You don't have to speak with my husband if I'm making the appointment. 2. Who doesn't take credit cards unless you're evading taxes? 3. He scratched our seats cleaning them. We STILL gave him a second try because he did a good job with my dad's car. My husband pointed out the scratches, but he denied it and he wouldn't let my husband get a word in. Once we picked up the car, we found out the next day, the flip mirror on the passenger side was completely cracked. I know for sure it wasn't cracked a few days before we dropped it off, so the only way it would have been broken was during cleaning. Was it hit with the end of a vacuum or someone's arm? He said the guys "showed it to him". What the heck does that mean? Admit your guys mistakes. We should have never gone back. Save yourself the stress and do not go here. He does not take pride in his business and he is NOT trustworthy. read more

Ambiguous pricing and very difficult. Other detail shops list pricing for car, mid-size SUV or large SUV but A1 is negotiated on the spot. We accepted the pricing but I called back to ask for clarification on pricing comparison to A1 website and was presented with, "Listen I'm not going to argue with you I told your wife when she called that there would be an up charge for a SUV... just come pick up your vehicle." This would have been the 4th time I have used Ed at A1 detailing but each time I have gone it gets more difficult to deal with his brutish customer service. Ed does a nice job so if you want a solid detail at a good price with horrible customer service, Ed at A1 is the man for you. read more

I went here for an interior detailing on my car. This place has excellent customer service and good turn around time. The owner was responsive and really went out of his way to accommodate my schedule. Very pleased with the job they did. My car looks like I just bought it. Just had my car done by this company to see if a rear bumper damage could be compounded it out (without have to replace or repaint the bumper), they did a nice job on the rear bumper but however they missed a section of the front bumper which has clear coat scratches due to a traffic cone contact months prior. When I asked how is it possible if you compounded, polished, and waxed the entire car; that these clear coat scratches are still there. He then proceeded to raise his voice like it meant something and said that since I didn't point that out during the return of the car, that it was my fault and it would be "added bonus" for him to redo it. Really?! The reason for the 1 star is definitely the owner, he has an attitude and on some power trip; and likes to talk loud and over people. When you try to explain things to this guy, he takes offense and saying that it wasn't his or his workers fault. He likes to blame the customer for either not pointing out every specific detail before and after the work or expecting the customer to understand everything about the car detailing business. I would not return to this business but do not take my word, go and see his "shop" and understand that he takes cash only. This is a classic case of you get what you pay for and let my experience be a lesson learned. My recommendation is to take your car to a actual car detailing professional business. read more

I took my 92 trans am convertible to Ed and at first seemed to be very passionate about what he does. I dropped my car and Ed called me to tell me that he found a crack on the interior header molding of my convertible. When I got there the thing was cracked almost all the way off and dangling. He then tried to blame it on the people who put the top on (even though when I dropped it off to him there was no crack what so ever the velcro had come loose so I did notice it and thats how I know for sure that it happened at Ed's shop). He then tried to blame me and then when I said this is on you is when it got heated. This guy is a ticking time bomb. He then had the nerve to tell me I am rude and to leave. You just messed up a 30 year old mint car with 21k miles on it and then tried to blame me. Really? The part is $200 and not easy to find. He could have said the detailing was on the house to cover the part but no. Instead he doubled down on being an a**hole. I understand things happen but it is how you handle it that makes the difference. And this guy is just a crook. Be a man and stand by your work and if you make a mistake then fix it. read more

I've had 'hit or miss' experiences in the past with other detailers so this was a very pleasant surprise. I went with the top level detail package and couldn't believe how amazing my car looked. Took my 2007 MX-5 GT over to Ed for a full detail before putting the vehicle into Winter storage. Under the theory that you never put a dirty child in a clean bed, I researched all the detailing operations in the Western Chicago region. I narrowed my search and visited several of the operations. Once I met Ed at 1 Auto Detailing I knew I had found my new auto detailing provider. Ed has been doing this work for decades and personally inspected my vehicle before recommending a service plan. We discussed a couple of minor problem areas and Ed illustrated his approach in addressing the issues. Ed suggested directing attention to a few areas on the vehicle I had not considered, such as cleaning the drive rails and well on the power retractable hardtop top. This man loves his work and brings knowledge and enthusiasm to the party. Ed and his staff completed the work in timely fashion and the results were well beyond expectation. Christmas came early for me this year because of Ed. I have a BMW X1 that has been home to more than 4 dogs in the last year and 1/2. I took it to another detailing place (that is very recognized and is a chain) and one of the owners was as rude as could be. Literally told me he couldn't do it and it would be very costly. This is a lesson to go to search on the internet and look for the places that are recommended for you to go. This is the #1 Auto Detailing you need to go to. I was embarrassed to drop it off, but part of being a dog lover, you travel with your dogs. When I went to pick up my car, it was brand new. When I tell you there was not one dog hair all over the entire car, I am still amazed. Don't be a hater like the first car detailing place I went to. Avoid any problems, and call Ed. First of all, I'm a car guy. Think 911s, M5s, Maseratis, etc. So, I care about how performance, but also how it looks. That means taking care of the appearance is important to me. And when I needed to sell my Range Rover HSE, I was recommended to #1 Auto Detailing. I purchased the highest end package and the vehicle came back perfect! Normally, I need to ask service folks to "take a look at this, can you hit this again" in several spots but not this time!
